The 4:30 Movie is the sixteenth feature film from director Kevin Smith – and while he was making the movie, he thought he was making something that would get a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. But the MPA saw it differently. When they had the chance to watch the movie earlier this year, they felt the sexual references in the dialogue were enough for the movie to earn an R rating for sexual content. Smith appealed the rating (and subscribers to That Kevin Smith Club got some interesting insight into the appeals process), but the ratings board decided to stick with the R. They confirmed today that The 4:30 Movie will remain an R rated film.
Smith has a history of being able to get his films re-rated on appeal. Clerks and Zack and Miri Make a Porno were both given Nc-17 ratings, but were re-rated R on appeal.

Fans of the Power franchise are losing Ghost again — but this time, it’s the series.
Starz has canceled Power Book II: Ghost, with the show’s fourth season to serve as its last. It will be broken into two parts, premiering June 7 and September 6. Watch the teaser above.
The move was prefaced by Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch this week when he revealed plans to contain content costs by developing more new shows versus sustaining series longer as they become more expensive.
Using the Power franchise as an example, he said: “You look at the [Power] map and say, ‘Ok, if I take one of those characters out and spin one of those out, I can bring that on to replace the Power show at half the cost.’ Now I’m putting a lot of money right to the bottom line. And I’m really not losing anything in terms of acquisition costs and subscriber viewership,...

Good Morning America anchor Michael Strahan admitted he was “so embarrassed” during a recent segment on the show.
Strahan returned earlier this week after missing multiple GMA episodes so he could be with family during his daughter Isabella’s ongoing recovery and treatment after the removal of a brain cancer tumor.
He’d previously shut down colleague Robin Roberts, telling his GMA co-star, “Stay away from it,” when she tried to get him to weigh in on a hot topic ahead of the Super Bowl.
Strahan was at the desk with co-anchors Roberts and George Stephanopoulos on the Valentine’s Day episode of GMA.
Later in the show, the Pro Football Hall of Famer appeared alongside another GMA regular, Lara Spencer, who revealed they had something fun to show.

There have been a few hip hop artists who were invited on to Law & Order Svu. Among them were stars like Method Man and Snoop Dogg, who are also known for their respectable acting careers. Ice-t credited producer Dick Wolf’s eye for talent for spotting the latent potential in the musicians he’s cast.
“The one thing about Dick Wolf [productions] is they understand how musicians translate into acting — they have no fear of that. I think Dick Wolf’s theory is, ‘If you could be a star at something, you could be a star at anything,’” Ice-t told Billboard.

Former professional boxer Mike Tyson has entered the cannabis industry in New York, joining the lineup of celebrities selling weed in his home state.
Celebrities have launched product lines and secured endorsement deals over the last decade as the use of cannabis was becoming legalized in many states. New York joined the states allowing legal recreational weed last year.
The former champ, 57, recently released the Tyson 2.0 line, including smokable flower varieties named Tiger Mintz and Knockout Og. He also sold gummies shaped like Evander Holyfield‘s ear, a reference to when he bit Holyfield’s ear during a 1997 bout, one of the six fights he lost.
Tyson is one of the biggest names in the industry so far.
During a recent public appearance in Manhattan, hundreds of fans were spotted trying to buy the cannabis from him. The former boxer made over $40,000 in sales within a few hours at two participating dispensaries.

New York City is set to honor Wu-Tang Clan in a big way for the 30th anniversary of their seminal debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Not only has Mayor Eric Adams declared November 9th as Wu-Tang Day, but the Empire State Building will be lit up in the group’s signature black and yellow colors.

There was a cipher going on outside the Hip-Hop 50 Live show at Yankee Stadium. One woman took the mic, intently closing her eyes while focusing on her next bar. As I walked away, she rhymed an improvisational derivative of recuperate, before spitting “that’s not even a word, I just be sayin’ shit.” The line set an apropos tone for the day. Hip-hop was bore out of rule-shirking and boundless imagination — and it made its way to “the house that Ruth built” to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

One of the first mainstream stars of hip-hop, LL Cool J himself has come a long way from dropping his “I Need a Beat” single back in 1984. A multi-Grammy winner, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and the first rapper to receive a Kennedy Center Honor,...

Hip-hop has been the gift that keeps giving to GloRilla - it's propelled her to success most new artists don't see this early on in their careers. Just a little over a year after dropping her breakout, now-platinum hit, "F.N.F. (Let's Go)," the Memphis native has added even more impressive accomplishments to her résumé. She's scored another platinum banger with "Tomorrow 2" collaborator Cardi B; released her debut EP, "Anyways, Life's Great"; performed at the 2022 American Music Awards and 2023 Grammy Awards (where she was also nominated for the first time); and, most recently, appeared in a nostalgic Sprite campaign with hip-hop heavyweights Nas and Rakim and fellow rising star Latto. And she's just getting started.
Today, GloRilla is still soaking in all of her achievements. One moment she can't get over, though, came along in February, when she shared the stage with hip-hop legends like LL Cool J, Method Man,...

Nas is back yet again. The rap icon recently took to Instagram to announce Magic 2 is dropping on Friday. Last week, he stirred anticipation for new music with an ominous purge of his page and a video of a thunderstorm. And now, we know for sure that his 16th solo studio album is imminent.
There’s not much known about the album yet, but it’s likely that it will once again be helmed by his frequent collaborator Hit-Boy. 50 Cent revealed that he’ll be on a song called “Office Hours,...

Hailey Bieber is speaking out about fans continuing to pit her against Selena Gomez. In a June 30 interview with Bloomberg's "The Circuit With Emily Chang," Hailey opened up about the drama, calling it "awful."
"I don't think that this is about me, Hailey Bieber, and Selena Gomez," she explained. "This is not about this pitting between two women and division between two women. It's about the vile, disgusting hatred that can come from completely made up and twisted and perpetuated narratives. That can be really dangerous." She said she's "not Ok with the kind of division that it caused" and the idea of being "team this person" and that she ultimately wants to bring people together.
Chang called it a "frustrating, old narrative" about two women being pitted against each other "over a man," and Hailey replied, "Because of a guy? It's awful. I hate it. I've hated it since the beginning.
