The Simpsons are tossing something extra in trick or treat bags this year. The show will present audiences with two nightmarish “Treehouse of Horror” installments. One of which features an iconic figure of Halloween: Krusty the Clown from Springfield, USA, stepping in for Stephen King’s Pennywise the Clown from Derry, Maine. Fans have been rendering both masters of disaster laughter in homemade art, and the Fox animated series decided to supply them with a receptacle.
“For one of our two Halloween episodes this year, we’re holding a Simpsons Halloween Fan Art Contest to get some great homemade drawings of scary Krusty,” The Simpsons‘ showrunner Matt Selman tells Den of Geek. “We’ll put the winners under the end credits of ‘Not It,’ our parody of… well, you know.”

Margaret Josephs stuns in a floral dress. Pic credit: @therealmargaretjosephs/Instagram
Margaret Josephs is just as stylish as her The Real Housewives of New Jersey castmates and she proved that during a lavish baby shower thrown for her friend Brian Kelly.
She went all out for the happy occasion in a plunging floral dress and high heels and posted photos from the event, seemingly held at her home.
Margaret wasn’t the only Bravo star in attendance to celebrate the pending arrival of Baby Kelly; her castmate Dolores Catania also showed up to the party clad in a stunning dress.
Another unexpected face in the mix was The Real Housewives of New York alum Dorinda Medley, who was just as fashionable for the occasion in a colorful pants suit.
The trio posed for photos together during the celebration and Margaret highlighted the stunning decor and the other party guests in attendance.

The first week of the college football season is usually a mixed bag of Davids vs. Goliaths, but there’s usually at least one great matchup of Goliath vs. Goliath. That happens Saturday night as the No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish visit the Horseshoe in Columbus to clash with C.J. Stroud (pictured) and the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in primetime on ABC. The Irish narrowly missed a trip to the College Football Playoff last season, and are coming off a 37-35 loss to Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl. Marcus Freeman takes over as head coach of the Golden Domers following Brian Kelly’s departure for Lsu. Last seen, the Buckeyes beat Utah 48-45 in the Rose Bowl, but were left out of the Cfp for the first time since 2018. Osu is heavily favored over the Irish, and a big win over a preseason top-10 team would be a...

Exclusive: Forced to halt production after just three weeks of shooting in South Africa when the Covid pandemic struck back in March 2020, and picking up again in Romania seven months later, Around The World In 80 Days is due to have its world premiere at Canneseries on October 10.
Star David Tennant, who plays English gentleman-turned-adventurer Phileas Fogg, is expected on the Riviera to unveil the first two episodes of this mega-adaptation of the Jules Verne classic. An airdate has yet to be set, but is likely around the holidays via such outlets as France Télévisions, PBS/Masterpiece, the BBC, Rai and Zdf. Check out the first-look teaser above.
Joining Tennant in the eight-part adventure are French actor Ibrahim Koma (Oss 177) as Fogg’s irrepressible valet, Passepartout, and Leonie Benesch (The Crown) as determined journalist, Abigail ‘Fix’ Fortescue.
A Slim Film + Television and Federation co-production for the European Alliance, the series boasts a new spin on Fogg.
Life On Mars creator and 80 Days head writer, Ashley Pharoah says, “We wanted Fogg yes to be a preposterously upper middle class over-educated Englishman, but I wanted to give him a sort of childlike sense of wonder because he’s never traveled, he’s never left London or his club. As soon as I hit on that, I thought it’s a love letter to the world, if that isn’t a bit pretentious. He goes to Paris and India and Hong Kong and Yemen and he’s so excited to see a camel, the different colors and cultures. It felt like resetting our relationship with traveling and seeing the world like that.”
In terms of scoring Tennant for the lead, former Kudos boss Simon Crawford Collins, who runs Slim Film + Television, says, “We wanted somebody who could believably do the action adventure, could play the stiff-upper-lip Englishman, but at the same time you never fall out of love with him and you really want to get under the veneer of that and go, ‘Wow, this is actually a complex man.’ David manages that so brilliantly.”
Pharoah, who is also an executive producer, hints at more Fogg adventures to come. “We are in the early stages of wondering — if this goes well — if we could do it again. Taking those three characters and doing a different adventure with them.” Hopefully not under the same conditions, however, which Pharoah recalls as “a really hard shoot.”
It was also expensive, as pandemic-related issues added about £4M in costs, Crawford Collins tells Deadline. “The first lockdown was a killer, but once we got going again we felt very blessed.” Production in South Africa was originally stopped in March 2020 and picked up again in November in Romania. “In an ideal world we would have carried on filming in South Africa where our sets were, but South Africa was coming out slowly so we did the big shift to Romania,” adds the executive producer. This year, production was able to move back to South Africa and the result is “very vibrant and cinematic.”
Around The World In 80 Days counts co-production partners Masterpiece in the U.S., Peu Communications in South Africa, and Belgium’s Be-films and Rtbf. Daro Film associate produces. Seven West Media has also backed the production and will broadcast in Australia. The series has further been acquired by the BBC in the UK and Rts in Switzerland.
While there are myriad partners on the series, Crawford Collins says development and production were “very straightforward.” France Télévisions “came back saying, ‘We love this and really want to make it and we don’t want to be the secondary broadcaster.’ They wanted to be lead, so immediately put in a sizable amount of money. It was a wonderful building block and they then brought the Alliance partners on board.”
The entire process (apart from the shutdown), “was incredibly stress free… We never had any big disagreements… The specter of Europudding still sort of lives heavily in our minds and we all know those days. But I think the trouble with that is when you have a project originated just to secure financing then it really shows through. The difference is that we had a clear vision of what we wanted to say, but just knew we needed a lot of people to help fund it.”
Also starring as series regulars in 80 Days are Jason Watkins (Des) and Peter Sullivan (Poldark). Guest actors include Lindsay Duncan (A Discovery Of Witches), Dolly Wells (Dracula), Richard Wilson (Merlin), Faical Elkihel (The Spy), Anthony Flanagan (The Terror), Gary Beadle (Patrick Melrose) and Giovanni Scifoni (Doc – Nelle Tue Mani).
Around The World In 80 Days is adapted by a team of writers led by Pharoah and Caleb Ranson (Child Of Mine). Steve Barron (The Durrells) directs with Brian Kelly (Downton Abbey) and the late Charles Beeson (The Mentalist).
Federation Entertainment handles distribution rights. Exec producers are Crawford Collins for Slim, Lionel Uzan and Pascal Breton for Federation, Winnie Serite for Peu and Susanne Simpson for Masterpiece.

Attorneys for the state and defendants gave opening statements this morning in the first trial of the major college admissions scandal codenamed “Operation Varsity Blues,” which broke in 2019 and gained widespread attention for high profile defendants like actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman. Dozens of parents were charged for paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to get their kids into colleges as phony athletic recruits or by cheating on standardized tests. So far 32 parents have pleaded guilty.

Pennyworth’s Anna Chancellor and Outlander’s James Fleet have joined the cast of BBC America’s The Watch, based on Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels.
The pair are the latest actors to join the BBC Studios and Narrativia-produced series, joining lead Richard Dormer.
Chancellor stars as Lord Vetinari, The Patrician of Ankh-Morpork, and architect of the city’s normalized wrongness and ramshackle system of governance, while Fleet stars as The Archchancellor, wizard, magical advisor, and the Head of the Unseen University.
Set in the fictional city of Ankh-Morpork, where crime has been legalized, The Watch is a “punk rock” drama. The eight-part series centers on a group of misfit cops as they rise up from decades of helplessness to save their corrupt city from catastrophe.

Michael Almereyda with Hampton Fancher on the form of Escapes, executive produced by Wes Anderson: "This is my tribute to Bruce Conner." Photo: Anne-Katrin Titze
In my Escapes conversation with Michael Almereyda (Experimenter, starring Peter Sarsgaard) and Hampton Fancher (co-screenwriter of Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049) we start out with Federico García Lorca, Bruce Conner, Philip K Dick and Chris Marker. Then we encounter a Jean-Pierre Léaud, Tina Sinatra, Michael Pfleghar (Romeo Und Julia 70) connection and next stop over at Thom Andersen's Los Angeles Plays Itself, Brian Kelly and Flipper, Skinningrove on photographer Chris Killip, Yasujiro Ozu's influence on Wim Wenders (Yuharu Atsuta in Tokyo-Ga) and Jim Jarmusch.

In order to understand the kind of life that Hampton Fancher has led, consider this: He once spent a month living in sin with a schizophrenic lingerie model, and it barely merits a passing mention in the breezy documentary that “Experimenter” director Michael Almereyda has made about him. Fancher is just one of those guys — you know the kind. The word is usually “raconteur,” but that doesn’t quite seem to cover it, here. In fact, there isn’t a word in the English language that does.
Born in 1938 and an undefinable survivor ever since, Fancher choreographed striptease routines for his sister when he was 10, he snuck about a ship to Spain when he was 15, where he became a flamenco dancer before sailing back to the States with Marlon Brando and Salvador Dali. He started working as a two-bit television actor, though he really only liked the job for the...

It’s exceedingly likely that your primary association with Hampton Fancher is Blade Runner, on which he served as co-writer and executive producer; and if you have another, it’s probably Blade Runner 2049, on which he also served as co-writer and the story’s architect. Little is it known that the scribe, actor, and director has had one of Hollywood’s strangest ascendancies, a trip marked by happenstance, romance, crossing paths with legends, and perhaps divine fate — a series of stories so good that Michael Almereyda (Marjorie Prime, Experimenter) turned them into a feature-length documentary whose intoxicating style is somewhere between the career-spanning De Palma and juxtaposition-heavy films of Thom Anderson (Los Angeles Plays Itself).

Escapes isn’t the only Michael Almereyda film showing at BAMcinemaFest this year. In fact, it’s not even Almereyda’s only festival entry dealing with memory (the other is melancholic sci-fi tale Marjorie Prime), but it’s certainly the one in which he best approaches how we remember. The documentary (executive produced by Wes Anderson) centers on the life of B-list actor Hampton Fancher, who achieved moderate success largely in part to a lanky handsomeness that made him the right type to play brooding cowboys, con men, and an assortment of supporting characters in TV shows and obscure European films. But what Fancher lacked in prestigious roles he more than made up for in outlandish life experiences, which ranged from becoming a flamenco dancer at age 15 to being picked up in the street and put in a film. Perhaps his most remarkable achievement, and the reason why Almereyda even made a whole film about him, is that he wrote the screenplay for Blade Runner after an unusual encounter with Philip K. Dick.
But reading about Fancher’s life doesn’t compare to hearing him narrate it, and Almereyda makes the most of this Dickensian hero’s qualities by having him share some of his most unique anecdotes. Narration is juxtaposed with cleverly selected and edited shots from TV and film appearances — as well as those of other celebrities mentioned, e.g. his friend Brian Kelly of Flipper fame, and his former romantic partners Teri Garr, Sue Lyon, and Barbara Hershey — that give Escapes the shape of a collage or a Russian doll, depending on how Fancher is telling the story.
In allowing him to speak his mind, Almereyda turns Fancher into an unreliable narrator who isn’t always totally likable. He speaks ill of women and calls Mexican immigrants “wetbacks,” like the racist relative who claims he just never learned the right terms for non-white people. Since his stories are so self-centered and full of terms that make one squirm, it’s easy to wonder if he’s telling the truth. Are his anecdotes based in reality or simply an actor’s attempt to make his life sound more grandiose than it was? When he tells of a time the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. was opened only for him, we can envy the privilege, but also wonder if it wasn’t just a case of him showing up earlier, at an hour when it would’ve seemed he was all by himself.
Fancher seduces the ear and imagination by relentlessly spitting names and dates, giving us no time to breathe and question his remarks. But if you look past his occasionally unpleasant way of telling stories, he proves to be an anachronistic figure, a man trapped in the amber of Hollywood dreams. Perhaps all of his tales are true — but were that the case, the film’s title would seem odd. Who would want to escape a life of such adventure? Almereyda uses a title card in which Tinseltown is referred to as the “land of make believe,” and if that’s true, Fancher could very well crown himself a prince of pretense — a man born to be in the movies.
Escapes screened at BAMcinemaFest and opens on July 26.

Released in 1966, producer Ivan Tors' Around the World Under the Sea seemed at first blush like an exercise in stunt casting: cobble together some contemporary TV favorites into a feature film and have MGM and Tors divvy up the profits. However, that perception would be entirely wrong. While the film did boast some popular TV stars in leading roles, the film itself is an intelligent adventure flick, well acted and very competently directed by old hand Andrew Marton. The film stars Lloyd Bridges (only a few years out of Sea Hunt), Brian Kelly (star of Flipper), Daktari lead Marshall Thompson and Man From U.N.C.L.E. David McCallum. Veteran supporting actors Keenan Wynn and Gary Merrill are also prominently featured and Shirley Eaton, riding her fame from Goldfinger, has the only female role in this macho male storyline. The film is yet another title...

If you've never seen the 1966 Ivan Tors adventure film Around the World Under the Sea, you're missing a real gem. The premise finds a dedicated group of scientists on a death-defying undersea mission to plant earthquake warning devices on seabeds around the globe. The film has an eclectic cast including Lloyd Bridges, James Bond girl Shirley Eaton, Man From U.N.C.L.E. star David McCallum, Marshall Thompson of Daktari!, Brian Kelly of Flipper -with Keenan Wynn thrown in for good measure. The real star of the film is the late underwater photographer Lamar Boren, whose talents add immeasurably to the movie. The effects are still very effective by today's standards and it's a real joy to see so many charismatic stars in one movie. The film had a brief release on VHS by MGM in the 1980s but has yet to be released on DVD- c'mon guys,...

Brian d'Arcy James admits that his performance in Shrek the Musical is influenced by Mike Myers, who provided the voice of the title ogre on screen. "It would be foolish to turn your nose away from that," he says. "We're honoring what people know and admire." Nonetheless, James is determined to bring his own interpretation to the big green guy with the Scottish accent. "My goal and challenge is to create a living, breathing version of Shrek that is theatrical and alive and has dimension and complexity," says the actor in his Broadway dressing room as he readies for the elaborate transformation. "My hope is that he has humanity, which is an interesting use of the word to describe an ogre." The director has no doubt he cast the right actor for the job. "Brian is a chameleon," says Jason Moore. "He can play a villain; he can play a nice guy.
