This article contains spoilers up to and including Grease: Rise Of The Pink Ladies Season 1 Episode 6.
If Niamh Wilson carries herself like a showbiz veteran, it's because she is. The Canadian wunderkind has been working in the entertainment industry since age five.
Wilson is currently lighting up our screens as rival-turned-romantic interest to Cynthia (Ari Notartomaso) in Paramount+'s Grease: Rise Of The Pink Ladies. We discussed the impact of Lydia and Cynthia's unlikely romance and reflected on Wilson's already impressive career.
When I remark on the beauty of the vibrant work of art on the wall behind her, Wilson announces that she painted it herself. It's hardly surprising -- the 26-year-old acts, sings, dances, directs, and writes. Is there anything she can't do?
"I'm terrible at sports!" Wilson admits.
Unlike her character Lydia, Wilson wasn't a typical theatre kid in high school.

Steve Lawson mines familiar territory once again with The Highwayman: The Legend of Dick Turpin… Yes, after bringing us films about Van Helsing, Jack the Ripper, Jekyll & Hyde and most recently the Musketeers, Lawson picks up the tale of the legendary roguish highwayman. A character who, once upon a time, was a focus of a myriad of films and TV shows yet nowadays seems to have been left on by the wayside (pun intended).

Ralph Carmichael, composer and Emmy Award-winning arranger-conductor for Nat King Cole, Jack Jones, Ella Fitzgerald and Roger Williams, died Oct. 18 in Camarillo, Calif. He was 94.
Carmichael got his big break when Capitol Records producer Lee Gillette was introduced to his arrangement in the 1950s. This led to the prolific collaboration between Carmichael and Cole, starting with Cole arranging the 1960 Christmas album “The Magic of Christmas” which was re-packaged in 1962 as “The Christmas Song.” Carmichael and Cole produced nine full studio projects together including Nat’s final sessions in 1964 for the album “L.O.V.E,” more collaborations with Nat than any other arranger. He was also a primary arranger/conductor for pianist Roger Williams, creating 20 albums together including the 1965 hit “Born Free.”
Carmichael also wrote charts for TV shows such as “My Mother the Car” and “I Love Lucy” as well as movie scores, including “The Blob,” “4D Man” and “The Cross and the Switchblade.

An interview with John Lennon’s murderer and the UK’s first kidnapping case are being explored in new films unveiled by Sky for its recently-launched Sky Documentaries channel.
The programs were unveiled as Sky UK and Ireland managing director of content Zai Bennett said the Comcast-owned broadcaster is focusing on building its brands by getting in early with creators to help it in the “arms race” of content, particularly in drama.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Sky’s director of factual Poppy Dixon said Let Me Take You Down is an investigation into the killing of Lennon in 1980 by Mark David Chapman, which she hopes will air at the end of this year to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Lennon’s death.

“A Very Precious Natalie”
By Raymond Benson
The familiar old standard, “A Very Precious Love” (by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster) has been covered by such crooners as the Ames Brothers, Doris Day, Jack Jones, and others, but it was Gene Kelly who introduced it in the 1958 film adaptation of Herman Wouk’s 1955 novel, Marjorie Morningstar, which was directed by Irving Rapper. The song, played incessantly in instrumental form throughout the picture (and sung twice by Kelly), certainly sticks with you—and it received an Academy Award nomination for Best Song that year.
It was the only nomination the film received, however. Despite the good intentions of the filmmakers, the solid performances by Kelly and protagonist Marjorie (played by the luminescent Natalie Wood), and an excellent supporting cast that includes Ed Wynn, Claire Trevor, Carolyn Jones, Everett Sloan, Martin Milner, Martin Balsam, Jesse White, and George Tobias, the picture...

Commitment and signing videos have long been part of college sports recruiting -- especially football and basketball -- with top prospects creating a ton of social media buzz around the video documentation of their decisions about which house of higher learning they'll attend.
The stakes for these videos having seemingly gotten higher and more produced over time as the act has grown from simply announcing the team you'd sign with by way of national TV to publishing videos around your commitment decision months before signing, and then filming another video when signing day rolled around.
The best of these occurred back in 2012, when Landon Collins picked Alabama over Lsu, much to the disapproval of his mother. A few months before the film version of “The Sound of Music” hit the silver screen, a song plugger working the catalog of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein approached label owner Dave Kapp with a plan to turn one of the songs from the score into a hit single, thinking it would boost the box office potential of the movie. That resulted in Jack Jones recording “My Favorite Things” for his first Christmas album, but the song did not become a hit. That song plugger’s dream finally comes true this week, some 54 years after the film’s release, as “My Favorite Things” debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, thanks to a reinterpretation by Ariana Grande on her new single, “7 Rings.”

YouTuber ‘Toobz’ started uploading short commentary videos about internet trends in January 2017, and since then has amassed a modest following of a little over 5,500 subscribers. He also recently hit a YouTube milestone: one million views. Toobz took the opportunity to review exactly how much ad revenue those views have pulled in for him.
The answer is...not much. Toobz made a roundup video totalling all his earnings, as well as dividing out the earnings for some of his individual videos. The video that earned the most cash for him was Crazy YouTuber Builds Homemade Jetpack, which had garnered 97,000 views at the time of his roundup. Those 97,000 views translated to $78.57 — or $0.81 per 1,000 views. However, Toobz’s least valuable video also ironically had far more views than Jetpack. Jack Jones TV Exposed had 261,000 views at the time of the roundup and had earned $23.49, representing $0.09 per 1,000 views.

Henri Bollinger, a five-time president of the Publicists Guild and a fixture for decades at its signature Publicists Guild Award luncheon, died Monday at the Motion Picture & Television Fund campus in Woodland Hills of complications from surgery, Deadline has learned. He was 89.
Bollinger’s Hollywood publicity career spanned 60 years. He joined the then-Publicists Guild of America in 1957, the second year of its existence.
Recalling those early years to writer Ed Crane in the Publicists Awards’ 50th anniversary program, Bollinger said, “attendance at General Membership meetings ranged between 150-200 members. In those days you were fined $15 if you missed a meeting [held usually at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel] without a valid reason.”
He served for more than 55 years on the Publicists Awards Committee, which organizes the annual ICG Publicists Awards Luncheon held at the Beverly Hilton. He was chairman of the committee for 37 years, retiring from that position earlier this year, though remaining a committee member.

Natalie Wood and Steve McQueen collaborate with a great writer, director and producer for an urban romance with an eye on the sexual double standard. It’s a hybrid production: a gritty drama that’s also a calculated career move.

Arkansas Completes First Double Execution in 17 Years After Supreme Court Rejects Last-Minute Appeal

The Associated Press reported the first inmate, Jack Jones, 52, was executed at 7:20 p.m. Attorneys for the second inmate, Marcel Williams, 46, convinced a federal judge to briefly delay the proceedings over concerns about how the earlier death was handled.

As the longest running science fiction programme in the world, Doctor Who has left a large cultural legacy behind it and like anything that has been noted as significant in time (and relative dimensions in space, of course!), the iconic themes and characters of our favourite time travelling mad man with a box have been extended into a range of other medias.
There is a whole Genesis Ark worth of references in other television programmes, some of which are featured here. The first Doctor Who spoof, however, was on the sketch show It’s a Square World in 1963. Clive Dunn – better known for playing Lance-Corporal Jack Jones in Dad’s Army – played a scientist called Doctor Fotheringown who, dressed in William Hartnell’s costume and wig, demonstrated a new rocket that ended up sending BBC Television Centre into space.

After abducting the daughter of a wealthy socialite, a group of kidnappers seek refuge in an abandoned school in the middle of a wooded nowhere. Little do they know that they’ve chosen the hunting grounds of a ravenous creature that can only be sated by ritualistic sacrifices every spring. Writer/director Padraig Reynolds’ crime thriller/slasher hybrid received mixed reviews during its short festival run, but it’s a solidly crafted piece with some good performances and impressive cinematography by Carl Herse. Clive Dunn has died at the age of 92. The actor passed away in Portugal today (November 7) after suffering from complications following an operation earlier this week. Los Angeles — Hal David, the stylish, heartfelt lyricist who teamed with Burt Bacharach on dozens of timeless songs for movies, television and a variety of recording artists in the 1960s and beyond, has died. He was 91.
David died of complications from a stroke Saturday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to his wife Eunice David.
He had suffered a major stroke in March and was stricken again on Tuesday, she said.

This is a very compelling case study on using current (and free!) internet tools readily available for audience building, demographic collection, contacting the people who may be your 'base group' and who may eventually (or now?) compensate you for your content. I think that connecting with your intended (and / or desirable) audience is almost Job Number One to any of us who create (film, art or here as an internet and or TV show) and who instinctively 'know' who we are speaking to. This compelling piece by our friend Zack Coffman really has some very interesting ideas which we should all absorb (and ??? follow?...)
Billed as "Big Brother meets Ghostbusters" online reality show LiveSciFi scored a hit this weekend as the relaunch of their cult streaming ghost hunting show got over 5 million views, going into their final nights on location at the haunted "Sallie House" of Atchison, Ks. Originally to last 72 hours, the response to the show has been so great the team decided to extend it to 96 hours to give the viewers just a bit more paranormal investigation to ponder until the next live show scheduled for late May. Evidenciary clips will be posted over the next few days to the LiveSciFi.tv paranormal blog.
Known for taking tamer cable TV ghost hunting fare to the extreme, the LiveSciFi team (Tim Wood, Scott Di Lalla, and Patrick Langdon) take turns doing various experiments in the most haunted locations such as Ouija board, Ganzfeld sensory deprivation, BeezleBox(tm) and Ghost Radar®. Calling itself "As real as it gets," the show allows viewers to watch unedited continuous feeds from various rooms in the house while the ghost hunters deal with whatever supernatural energies may exist in the house and attempt to bring them to the visual and aural realm for all to see.
Created by Wood in late 2007, LiveSciFi was the first live streaming paranormal show ever attempted on the internet and it achieved a cultlike status among loyal followers even though the technology wasn't up to today's standards. "I just got sick of various fake paranormal shows that were edited down without showing the audience what was really happening and letting them decide for themselves," says Wood, "I never imagined it would go this crazy." The show came to the attention of award-winning One World Studios Ltd. toppers Scott Di Lalla and Zack Coffman who acquired it just three weeks prior to this weekend's streaming, keeping Wood on as host and creative director. The One World duo had just finished up their own paranormal Ouija movie, a feature film called I Am ZoZo shot entirely on Super 8mm and based on true accounts of the demon ZoZo attacking people through Ouija boards, when Di Lalla's friend and fellow paranormal hobbyist Langdon mentioned that the intense online reality show he had appeared on needed another camera operator. Di Lalla accompanied LiveSciFi for a weekend and when he returned he told Coffman, "We gotta get in on this." Two weeks later One World had acquired the show and began seeking sponsors and a platform to stream it to the widest possible audience. "We approached all the usual suspects, but honestly, this is sort of unexplored territory so it wasn't easy with such a short window before the next show. Justin.tv told us that they could offer a front page placement and we had the deal done in a matter of hours. Muses Coffman, "The guys at Justin told us to expect 750k to 1 million viewers over the weekend and those were amazing numbers to us. We never expected the response to be five times that!
Last Second Scrambling -- With the show scheduled to go live two days hence, on Friday the 13th, Coffman took the viewer estimates and tried to arrange some sponsorships. He contacted Dickies with whom One World had a long-standing relationship through One World's series of cult motorcycle movies (Choppertown). Recounts Coffman, "I wasn't sure what they'd say about an edgy ghost hunting show, but I think there was a level of trust we had built up over our previous projects and I basically just promised them it would be worth their while." Dickies PR Director Misty Otto made the call while on a business flight en route to Chicago, "Zack (Coffman) said he had an amazing last second opportunity and sent me a quick synopsis that we found compelling and fresh. That and our previous good experiences with One World made it easy to jump on board even on short notice. We always enjoy working with Scotty, Zack and the One World crew because they bring a very real, raw and interesting perspective to the projects they tackle." With a main sponsor on board and only hours before the show was scheduled to go live, Coffman approached one more sponsor, Spud Pickles, makers of the #1 ghost hunting app Ghost Radar®. "We love the app and it's far and away the most popular of all the ghost hunting apps out there with several million downloads so they (Spud Pickles) were definitely my first choice," says Coffman. Like Dickies, Spud Pickles topper, Jack Jones saw the opportunity immediately and bought a sponsorship right there on the phone. Then in a sign of good things to come, Spud Pickles released a global update to all their users featuring a graphical splash page and a link to LiveSciFi's homepage. Said Coffman, "We were so happy that Spud Pickles got on board, but they went far and above the sponsor relationship by helping to promote the show the way they did. We got thousands of hits that first day from the Ghost Radar® update alone."
As the team were setting up in Atchison, One World continued the last-second PR blitz. "We started calling all the local TV stations in Kansas City, telling them about the Friday the 13th ghost hunt. None of them showed up, but local ABC affiliate Kmbc published our release on their blog and it just took off. That posting caused several thousand hits, and then MSNBC.com reposted it just as the show was going live on Friday evening followed by About.com. "We must have gotten a good 10,000 hits from those posts alone." says Coffman.
With the show going live and the last touches and updates going on the site, the team focused on creating the best interactive viewer experience possible. Wood, Di Lalla and Langdon began investigating various parts of the house while receiving tweets from viewers that had already been watching the quad-cam splitscreen for hours. Wood and the team then tried to base their focus on the information coming in from the viewers live chats and tweets, continuing until 4am when the team set up their sleeping bags right in the center of the living room floor; the cams running on them as they slumbered fitfully with their viewers watching over them.
About One World Studios Ltd.:
One World’s first feature documentary Choppertown: the Sinners focused on a renowned group of California bikers known as the Sinners. Produced in 2004 with a stack of credit cards, this award-winning documentary heralded a return to the values of a simpler time and spawned a worldwide cult following culminating in a seventeen-country European theatrical tour sponsored by Dickies. After selling 20,000 Choppertown DVDs out of an apartment in West La, Coffman and Dilalla were able to quit their part-time jobs and make films full time since 2005. I Am ZoZo is their sixth feature and first narrative. LiveSciFi is their first Live reality show.

Both the Directors' Fortnight (May 17 through 27) and Critics' Week (May 17 through 25) have presented the posters for their 2012 editions — here and here, respectively. Neither is quite as classy as the poster for the Cannes Film Festival itself (May 16 through 27), but each captures the spirit of its strand pretty well.

It's an annual event as well as a browse that could suck up an entire weekend: Senses of Cinema's worldwide poll of… well, they're not all critics, so let's just call them friends of cinema. You'll want to scroll up and down the whole thing, but take a look, too, at the best of 2011 according to Notebook editor Daniel Kasman and contributors Celluloid Liberation Front, Christoph Huber, Olaf Möller and Dan Sallitt as well as a major presence here in the Forum and elsewhere, David Ehrenstein.
London. This is the year we'll be seeing the results of Sight & Sound's poll of more friends of cinema regarding the greatest films of all time. It happens only once every ten years and in the magazine's pages, Graham Fuller argues a mighty case for the return of Jean Vigo's L'Atalante (1934) to the top ten. The film's opening today for an extended run at BFI Southbank,...

The Best Yet? French Cinema Just Keeps on Going
For those who are deeply engrained in cinema, it is often hard to admit that sometimes there are years when we have few films which impress us. For film festivals there is much the same sentiment. It seems as though every year critics hail...

Shaun Ryder has hinted that he might walk out of the I’m a Celebrity jungle.
Gillian told Jenny about everyone in camp’s role and had said about Shaun “You ask him to do something and he just does it.”
Shaun later announced to the camp “It’s Friday tomorrow so I might bail tomorrow because it’s not like taking the money and running is it. I’ve done a full week.
All of the campers tell him not to go with Linford saying “I’ll miss you”. But Shaun said “It’s doing my nut in. If I do two weeks, they’ll have to take my shoelaces off me. I accomplished what I had to do by coming in here so I’m not really bothered. I’ve got nothing to lose by going out.”
Stacey tried to persuade him to stay, she said:

Retro-active: The Best Articles From Cinema Retro's Archives
It's no secret that American actors have been making TV commercials for the Japanese market for decades. In years past, there was little chance these would be seen in English-speaking countries where it would have been considered tacky for stars of great magnitude to appear as pitchmen for various products. However, the age of the Internet has opened up a King Tut's tomb of buried video treasures including a real gem featuring Charles Bronson in a bizarre TV spot that looks like it was funded by the old gay erotic magazine Blueboy. That's right - the most macho of leading men appeared in an ad that looks like an outtake from William Friedkin's Cruising.

The 8th Annual TV Land Awards aired last night and we were lucky enough to be at the taping. It was truly mind blowing for two TV fanatics like us. The range of legends was staggering — from Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner to Tom Hanks and Charo. Every end of the TV spectrum was represented and our heads almost exploded.
The show kicked off with Jack Jones the singer of The Love Boat theme, crooning the tune while the cast of the award show was highlighted in Love Boat-style on the video screen. We could have gone home satisfied right then.
Next, host Tim Allen floated onto the stage on a gigantic ocean liner. He introduced Betty White accompanied by Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick, her co-stars in the upcoming Hot in Cleveland. They presented the Fan Favorite Award to the crew of The Love Boat including Charo, who coochi-coohied...
