I have had a strong appreciation for the 1990 sci-fi action thriller I Come in Peace, which is also known by the title Dark Angel in some territories, ever since it first came out when I was a kid, and several of my cohorts here on JoBlo are fans of the film as well – with John “The Arrow” Fallon recommending it and Chris Bumbray calling it “The Best Christmas Action Movie You Never Saw.” So we’re excited to hear that Shout Factory will be giving the film a 4K release on July 9th – and if you’re also a fan of this movie and want to add the 4K release to your collection, it’s available for pre-order at This Link!

When legendary horror auteur George A. Romero set out to make Day of the Dead — the third chapter in a trilogy that included the wildly popular and groundbreaking Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Dawn of the Dead (1979) — he envisioned it as an epic conclusion to the story that he first began telling back in Pittsburgh in the late 1960s with a crew of friends and co-workers and a budget of just $114,000.
But the movie that Romero ended up making was not the one he started out with — and even though many were perhaps initially disappointed with Day of the Dead, it’s been re-evaluated over the years by fans, critics, and even by the late Romero himself, who wound up calling it his favorite of the original trilogy.
“When it first came out, the audience was like, ‘What the hell is this?’” says Lori Cardille, the Pittsburgh-based actress who...

According to artsintegrity.org, Howard Sherman writes that there has been an uproar surrounding a recent production of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest at Boston Children's Theatre. This debate has centered around one nude scene, which reportedly takes up 'less than one page of the acting edition script.' However, the ramifications of this acting and directorial decision have been much bigger than that.

The big-deal musical of the current Broadway season (and likely many more to come) moved its preshow lottery online last week. For any other show, this news might go unnoticed, but for Hamilton, it marked the (temporary) end of a series of short-and-sweet street performances that have come to be known (and hashtagged) as Ham4Ham. Spearheaded by Hamilton creator/star and unabashed theater geek Lin-Manuel Miranda, the shows are an eclectic grab-bag of a cappella tunes, elaborate lip-syncing, role-swaps, mash-ups, inside jokes, and special guest performances intended to lessen the disappointment of the lottery entrants who will walk away from the Richard Rodgers on 46th Street empty-handed. The haphazard nature of the #Ham4Ham experience has made it a little tricky for non-fans to follow, but thanks to arts administrator Howard Sherman's dedicated front-row videography and blogs like The Federalist Freestyle rounding up footage from social media posts,...

USA, 1932
Genre: Survival Horror
The first of many official and unofficial screen versions of Richard Connell’s short story of the same name, The Most Dangerous Game was made in 1932, in the era known as “Pre-Code Hollywood,” a time when filmmakers were able to get away with sexual innuendo, illegal drug use, adultery, abortion, intense violence, homosexuality, and much more. It was during this time that a film like The Most Dangerous Game was allowed to be made and shown to the general public without fear of censorship. The film was put together by producer Willis O’Brien while in pre-production on King Kong, and features several of the same cast and crew members, as well as props and sets from Kong. Are zombies really that memorable? When you think about it, today’s undead munchers are not exactly an interesting crowd since all they do between meals is wander around in a trance. The pre Romero vegetarians are even worse, as they spend most of their time under the thumb of a zombie master, although on the odd occasion they do rebel against their tyrannical leader.
Zombie movies are a dime a dozen these days, and apart from a few moderately successful variations, they haven’t progressed beyond the flesh-eating antics of Night of the Living Dead (1968). But on the odd occasion a couple of zombies stand out from the faceless crowd of walking corpses, and what some these ghouls lack in personality, they make up for in other ways.
So here’s a list of ten memorable zombies that stood out for me, as an avid horror movie fan.

We catch up with the star of rom-zom-com Life After Beth, Aubrey Plaza, to talk zombies, smooth jazz and Scotland...
Unless you’re Sherman Howard, not many actors get to play a zombie and still talk of their character. Aubrey Plaza gets to do both in Life After Beth, a zom-rom-com as deep as Daniel Radcliffe’s eyes.
With a reputation for deadpan, restrained performances (most notably as April Ludgate in Parks And Recreation), Beth gives Plaza a chance to get impressively unhinged.
Den Of Geek interviewed her during the Edinburgh International Film Festival, where we both left a lot of awkward pauses.

A few weeks ago, we learned that South Williamsport, a high school in Lycoming County, Pa, had been forced to cancel their spring production of Monty Python's Spamalot due to 'controversial content,' which includes a homosexual marriage. According to Wnep, the administrators thought that the musical's subject matter was too inappropriate for students. After attracting considerable coverage in the media, this issue is still under review by the South Williamsport district and the state of Pennsylvania. But despite the fact that no new information has been released, Hesherman reporter Howard Sherman has been taking the matter into his own hands.

The horror genre is much maligned in general and often those actors and actresses who decide to appear in a horror film find themselves attacked from all quarters. Those who don’t like horror look at these films as simply a bloodbath of masked monsters hacking down teenagers. It has always been much more than this however.
The horror genre can not only be incredibly subtle, it can also have some incredibly affecting performances. There is work from actors and actresses which can really make you feel the terror and the sorrow that they too are feeling. Yes, the work of the directors and writers goes a long way into creating this but it is in the actors that we as the audience can really connect.
This is not a definitive list, but it does aim to highlight some of the great horror performances since cinema began. You will hopefully have many others.

Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor has been in the headlines recently after it was revealed that Jesse Eisenberg will be playing him in the upcoming Batman vs Superman movie.
The super-villain first appeared in the DC comic books in 1940 and, although the archenemy of Superman, he has also come into conflict with Batman and other superheroes in the DC Universe.
Originally depicted as a mad scientist who used his intelligence to create futuristic weapons, Lex Luthor evolved into a bald businessman and industrialist whose sky-high intelligence compensated for his lack of superpowers.
With Eisenberg stirring debate as the newest incarnation of the villain, we take a look back at the actors who've taken on Lex Luthor and ask who played him best.

Jon Cryer is the new Lex Luthor, but he sure isn't the first. Let's have a look at the other men who have played the role.
Lex Luthor! The greatest criminal mind of our time! Superman's biggest and most enduring pain-in-the-ass! Mr. Luthor has a screen history almost as storied as that of his caped nemesis, and he's about to be reborn once more on Supergirl, played by Jon Cryer.
Jon Cryer has just been revealed in all his glory as the next bald scientist on the block, but he's certainly not the first. We look back at some of the notable actors who have played Luthor on the big and small screen. While this list isn't comprehensive, these are the guys who made the most impact portraying Superman's greatest foe.
So, fasten your wigs, it's off to the lab!

Update Howard Sherman told BroadwayWorld 'A group of students met with Principal Guarino to offer him a range of suggestions of programs that could be implemented quickly to address his possible concerns, although since he has not been specific in his reservations about Rent, their efforts involve a good amount of guesswork. Mr. Guarino has said he is still considering the request to move the show back to its original date, but as it has already lost preparatory time, one cannot help wonder whether Mr. Guarino is simply running down the clock so that his promulgated dates become inevitable, despite their many conflicts. A group of parents will be meeting with Mr. Guarino on Monday.'...

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Trumbull High School has had their spring musical, the school edition of Rent, halted by school administrators. On Monday, Nov. 25, first-year principal Marc Guarino called a Thespian Society meeting, announcing that their planned production of Jonathan Larson's hit rock opera would be cancelled, according to Howard Sherman.Since then, the Board of Education has met, deciding to support the principal's decision to cancel the show. Board chairman Deborah Herbst said 'Without proper planning, Rent, the school edition, has the potential to become a speech rather than a meaningful dialogue.

Every year, we here at Sound On Sight celebrate the month of October with 31 Days of Horror; and every year, I update the list of my favourite horror films ever made. Last year, I released a list that included 150 picks. This year, I’ll be upgrading the list, making minor alterations, changing the rankings, adding new entries, and possibly removing a few titles. I’ve also decided to publish each post backwards this time for one reason: the new additions appear lower on my list, whereas my top 50 haven’t changed much, except for maybe in ranking. I am including documentaries, short films and mini series, only as special mentions – along with a few features that can qualify as horror, but barely do.
****
Special Mention:
Häxan
Directed by Benjamin Christensen
Denmark / Sweden, 1922

Last night, La-La Land Records and Waxwork Records (representing the world of soundtracks on CD and vinyl, respectively) celebrated George A. Romero's Day of the Dead with a special screening.
Scream Factory provided the print (well, a remastered Blu-ray) and Romero, composer John Harrison, Greg Nicotero, Joe Pilato and Howard Sherman all came out for a post-screening Q&A.
After the jump, check out some video excerpts which finds Romero weighing in on the current zombie wave and how he feels about no longer being alone in the undead entertainment sandbox.
The night was a blast and if you haven't picked up Scream's Blu-ray presentation, do so. Further, vinyl nuts are going to love what Waxwork did. For those who prefer the soundtrack on CD, definitely snag La-La Land's CD. Day of the Dead couldn't look or sound better!

Chicago – Scream Factory refuses to let up, releasing four more stellar Blu-ray editions that will just add to the debt of hardcore horror fans. Not all four of these films are great on their own but they’re all great Blu-ray releases, full of special features and with some truly amazing transfers. Genre junkies, like myself, should own all four, even “Psycho III.” Sorry. Maybe you can take out a loan. It’s not my fault. Don’t shoot the horror messenger.
The first thing one notices about any of the four new Scream Factory releases this month — “Psycho II,” “Psycho III,” “Prince of Darkness,” and “Day of the Dead” — is that they look absolutely fantastic. Scream Factory’s HD transfers are approaching the best on the market, up there with the Criterion Collection. “Day of the Dead,” in particular, is just stunning. I’ve seen the movie several times,...

With Bryan Cranston recently shooting down rampant rumors that he is going to play Lex Luthor in the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel, I decided to morph past actors who have played Superman's arch-nemesis into one.
Inspired by the face morphs of Bruce Wayne and James Bond that we previously featured on the site, I tried to morph All of the actors who have played Lex in live-action television or film. Sadly, I was unable to find high resolution enough photos for Lyle Talbot (Atom Man vs. Superman), or Sherman Howard and Scott Wells from The Adventures of Superboy series. I'm admittedly still a bit of a photoshop novice, so working in their features while maintaining a sense of photorealism proved too difficult.
Below the pic is a breakdown of actors I was able to include and what part of Lex's face they are. When covering up the other parts of the face,...
