A small contingent of journalists gathered near the Canadian border earlier this morning to watch as Dixville Notch, Nh, continued its tradition of casting the first ballots on an election day.
Nikki Haley cleaned Donald Trump’s clock in this hamlet — 6 votes to none.
As the day goes on, network correspondents are fanning out across the state at precincts to talk to actual voters, after months in which the first-in-the-nation primary was judged and assessed by polls. Commentary and analysis is focusing on whether
Haley and her top surrogate, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, blitzed the airwaves on Monday, while Trump held a final rally in Laconia, Nh, where he predicted that Haley would be out of the race after tonight. Jim Sciutto, CNN’s chief national security correspondent and co-anchor of its morning Newsroom newscast, has been absent from the show for the past two days in what is said to be a personal leave.
A network source said that Sciutto will return in a few weeks.
His leave follows reports that the network conducted an internal investigation earlier this year, after an incident in which he suffered a serious fall overseas. The Daily Beast reported earlier this week that it took place as Sciutto was returning from a Ukraine reporting trip and he has recovered, but the network asked him to address a “personal situation.” CNN has declined to comment.

ABC News executive Barbara Fedida will not return to the Disney-owned unit following an investigation into allegations of insensitive behavior and her treatment of employees, according to a person familiar with the matter,
Staffers were notified of the matter Monday in a memo from Peter Rice, chairman of Walt Disney Television. “The investigation substantiated that Ms. Fedida did make some of the unacceptable racially insensitive comments attributed to her. It also substantiated that Ms. Fedida managed in a rough manner and, on occasion, used crass and inappropriate language,” Rice said. “Lastly, the investigation found no basis for the claims that Ms. Fedida was the subject of dozens of Hr complaints and that ABC News spent millions of dollars in confidential settlements related to Ms. Fedida, as alleged in some press accounts.”

For over 50 years, Sesame Street has been the destination for families looking for guidance on talking through the tougher side of life. That reputation for not shying away from uncomfortable topics, but rather leaning into them in a way that young children might be able to understand, has been on full display in recent weeks as the celebrated children's program has teamed with CNN for two town halls tackling the pair of hot-button issues gripping America in this moment: Covid-19 and racial injustice. CNN hosted a second town hall on Saturday in partnership with “Sesame Street.” This time, CNN anchor Erica Hill and CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta taught kids and their families about coronavirus through lessons from beloved “Sesame Street” characters and special guests, including gold medal-winning Olympic gymnasts Simone Biles and Laurie Hernandez and Baltimore City Public Schools CEO Sonja Santelises.
Throughout the hour-long special, Cookie Monster explained why it’s not a good idea to share food, Elmo encouraged kids to wear their masks in public even though they can’t see coronavirus, the Count taught how to keep a six-foot distance from others and the whole cast paid tribute to health workers in a new song.

ABC News said it placed one of its senior executives on administrative leave after a Huffington Post report detailed alleged complaints about her behavior lodged by staffers to the human-resources department.
Barbara Fedida joined ABC News for a second stint when Ben Sherwood, the former president of the division, brought her aboard in 2011 as senior vice president for talent and business. As part of that role, she had a strong influence in determining who ABC News hired and the career paths of many of the news operation’s journalists and correspondents. “Sesame Street” and CNN aired a town hall Saturday morning to help kids and families understand the nationwide protests on racial injustice.
Hosted by CNN’s Van Jones and Erica Hill, “Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism” employed Elmo, Big Bird, Abby Cadabby and other “Sesame Street” favorites to help explain racism in the U.S. and answer important questions from children across the country.
“Not all streets are like Sesame Street,” Elmo’s dad, Louie, said when explaining the protests to Elmo. “On Sesame Street, we all love and respect one another. But across the country, people of color, especially in the Black community, are being treated unfairly because of how they look, their culture, race and who they are. What we are seeing is people saying ‘Enough is enough.’ They want to end racism.”

A doctored video of President Donald Trump’s Tuesday night speech from the Oval Office that aired on a Fox affiliate in Seattle has led to the firing of the staffer who created it.
The video, aired on Seattle’s Q13, depicted the President sticking his tongue out languidly between sentences. Trump’s skin and hair were also color adjusted to look more orange.
During the speech, Trump briefly licked his lips before continuing to speak. In the altered video from Q13, it appears that Trump let his tongue hang out and rest on his lower lip for a long time.
The station did not identify the author of the altered video, but indicated it was an editor.
“This does not meet our editorial standards and we regret if it is seen as portraying the president in a negative light,” Q13 news director Erica Hill said in a statement issued today.

GLAAD, the nation’s largest Lgbtq advocacy group, said it never intended for Kevin Hart to step down as host of the upcoming Oscars after homophobic social media postings resurfaced this week, but instead said the comic should have used the moment to raise awareness.

“The current cable news landscape is dominated by politics. Our live news shows have not benefited from this trend given our story mix,” CNN Evp/Hln overlord Ken Jautz told staff today in a memo, announcing Hln network’s latest Better Idea.
“In today’s news environment, every network has to focus on its strengths. To ensure Hln’s growth, we will shift some of our resources from live to longform programming and produce our live shows in as streamlined a manner as possible,” Jautz continued.
“The best way to do this is to centralize production of live news programming in Atlanta.”
Surviving the latest purge, Robin Meade’s Morning Express expands to gobble up 6 Am-noon Et.
Also taking on another hour is On the Story, which has followed Meade’s program and had been anchored by Erica Hill. It will now be anchored by a stable of hosts taking turns.

Hln, once known as CNN Headline News, will deliver fewer headlines as a result of the cable network’s latest programming shift.
Executives are pulling back on the news programming that has filled the outlet’s daytime schedule in a wide-scale retrenchment at the network, which is part of At&T’s CNN. Hln in recent years has stocked mornings, afternoons and early evenings with popular hosts like Ashleigh Banfield, Carol Costello and Michaela Pereira. All three will leave Hln as part of the reshuffling, which, according to a person familiar with the matter, will affect between 12 and 15 production and editorial positions in New York and Los Angeles. Charlie Rose is out of a job and CBS News is down a household name — but the network seems more likely to absorb the fallout from the latest sexual harassment scandal to hit the media world. Since CBS relaunched its weekday morning show with Rose and co-anchor Gayle King in 2011, ratings have soared 37 percent, from 2.63 million total viewers to 3.59 million this year. (Norah O’Donnell replaced holdover Erica Hill as the show’s third anchor in 2012.) “CBS This Morning” still trails ABC’s “Good Morning America” (with 4.4 million total viewers) and NBC’s “Today” (with 4.26 million) —...

Erica Hill returned to the new-look Hln this week after leaving the network in 2012. I’m really glad that I took that break, went to a couple of places and was afforded all these opportunities,” Hill told TheWrap. “But I was excited to come back here.” “On the Story with Erica Hill,” kicked...

CNN senior media correspondent Brian Stelter said an on-air source told him that suspended “Today” co-host Billy Bush “will never be on the show again.” Stelter elaborated while appearing on the debut episode of Erica Hill’s new Hln show “On the Story,” saying, “It seems unlikely he’ll be returning to the show, which is really a stunning reversal. A few months ago he was brought in as a brand new star on the ‘Today’ show, co-host of the third hour. Some people even said he was being groomed to replace Matt Lauer some day.” Stelter continued: “Now, he’s been suspended.

Erica Hill is rejoining Hln to anchor a New York-based daily daytime news program as that network returns to its "news roots." When the phone rings on a Sunday and it’s not even 9 Am, I leap up and brace for news that someone has died.
Luckily, when the phone rang this past Sunday that wasn’t the case. “Turn on the Today show right now!!” said my friend, Pennie.
Right there on a network news show (one that was on at the crack of dawn on a weekend) was a long segment about women and comics.
It was great, but I have issues.
Really, go watch the clip, and then we’ll talk.
First of all, huge props to the Marvel/Disney PR department for not only getting the story placed, but for making it all about Marvel. In my experience, many general-interest journalists conflate Marvel and all super-hero comics, and it seems that Marvel is just fine with that.

"Acting was basically saying, 'I'm going to quit college and go be a prostitute if you're Ok with that,'" she quipped.
She did television, on sketch comedy show "In Living Color" and in films like "Office Space" and "Jerry Maguire," but Wentworth told conference attendees that her current career choices are rooted in her feelings about balancing work and family. Weather is still her mainstay, but by joining "Today," Dylan Dreyer has learned a lot more about being in the kitchen.

New York (AP) — Norah O'Donnell understood the cultural differences that led Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad not to shake her hand before their "CBS This Morning" interview last week, and to request that she not cross her legs. But his references to her as "the lady" were almost too much.
"I had to repeatedly bite my tongue and not say, 'You know, my name is actually Norah O'Donnell,'" she said. "I thought the questions were more important."
