There’s no greater feeling than the love of family, 7th Heaven’s theme song tells us, and the alumni of that WB-to-cw drama certainly felt the love as they reunited in Connecticut for 90s Con. Beverley Mitchell, who played Lucy Camden on the show, shared photos of herself with 7th Heaven cast members on Instagram on Friday. In one pic, she poses for a selfie with TV mom Catherine Hicks (Annie Camden) and faux-siblings Mackenzie Rosman (Ruthie Camden), David Gallagher (Simon Camden), and Barry Watson (Matt Camden). “Beyond grateful for these crazy humans that I call family!” Mitchell wrote in the caption. “To say that this was needed was an understatement. "Star Trek" has never been the most popular show on television and the films, while generally successful, have only cracked the yearly box office top 10 five times (out of 13 total releases), but the major characters and tropes of the long-running franchise are instantly identifiable to most people around the world. Just about everyone knows Kirk and Spock, and they've probably heard of at least Bones, Sulu, and Uhura. They know what the Enterprise and Klingons are, and have surely heard the phrase "Beam me up, Scotty" a multitude of times. If someone couldn't tell you what a phaser is, you'd probably consider them sheltered.
Beyond these elements, however, people might be a tad hazy on the particulars. Romulans? Maybe. The highly intoxicating properties of Romulan ale? Not so much. The Kobayashi Maru? That's the hot dog eating dude, right?
Still, there are those who, through no fault of their own,...

Tom Holland's 1988 film "Child's Play" was initially meant to be a satire of the commercial madness that swept the world when Cabbage Patch Kids proliferated through the marketplace a few years before. What if, "Child's Play" asked, the soul of a vicious serial killer possessed your ultra-hot Christmas toy? The result was a genuinely creepy supernatural thriller about a young boy named Andy (Alex Vincent) his single mom (Catherine Hicks) and the mysterious Good Guy doll who likely contains the personality of Charles Lee "Chucky" Ray (Brad Dourif), known to the police as the Lakeshore Strangler.
Like many of the slasher films of the 1980s, "Child's Play" was extensively sequelized. The mythos of Chucky the killer doll expanded, leading to strange byzantine rules of voodoo magic (Chucky uses a magical amulet and magic spells to shunt his soul into a doll body), as well as inter-doll mating, and a lot of queerness.

Both "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" and "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" ended poorly for the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. "Khan" did see the defeat of a vengeful villain and the reunion between Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) and his son David (Merritt Butrick), but it required the sacrifice of Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and the severe buffetting of the Enterprise itself. "Search" ended with the resurrection of Spock, but required the theft and the destruction of the Enterprise, as well as the death of David at the hands of vengeful Klingons. Spock was back, but Kirk was now a wanted criminal with no vessel to command.
It's no wonder, then, that the makers of "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" decided to affect a much lighter tone. "Voyage" saw the Enterprise crew, on board a clunky old Klingon vessel, traveling back in time to...

The "Star Trek" franchise was nearing a crossroads in 1986. 20 years after the premiere of The Original Series on NBC, moviegoers were showing up in significant numbers to follow the big-screen exploits of Captain Kirk and the crew of the Starship Enterprise. But while 1982's "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan" and 1984's "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" were hits for Paramount (they both grossed in the $78 million range domestically), they were not blockbusters. So when stars William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy asked for salary bumps, the studio had some tough decisions to make.
Paramount almost received an unexpected windfall when their under-contract box office juggernaut, Eddie Murphy, asked to be in the fourth "Star Trek" movie. Murphy had just starred in "Beverly Hills Cop," the highest-grossing movie of 1984, and, as a hardcore Trekker, wanted to be a part of Gene Roddenberry's sci-fi universe. The studio was thrilled,...

Unleashed on theaters in 1988, director Tom Holland's "Child's Play" introduced America to Chucky, a My Buddy-like doll inhabited by the soul of a foul-mouthed serial killer. Equal parts absurd and frightening, that first movie spawned six sequels, a remake, and a TV series. Of all the iconic '80s horror villains, he's the only one still written by his original creator, Don Mancini. As such, the TV series has brought back many actors and characters from throughout the franchise's history, in an increasingly complicated -- and refreshingly LGBTQ-positive -- narrative of epic proportions. A narrative that involves Devon Sawa playing multiple roles, for some reason.
Fans of the show know where some of the original film's cast members ended up, but what about the rest? Shot in Chicago, "Child's Play" made use of several local stage talents, as well as a few veteran actors and familiar faces. Can you...

Thirty-five years, seven feature films, and three seasons deep into an ongoing television series haven’t diminished Chucky’s bloodlust in the slightest. That’s no easy feat, even in a genre largely driven by surviving impossible odds and obstacles. With each new entry, Chucky somehow manages to grow even more maniacal and devious, adapting to bizarre new twists that a prolonged voodoo curse throws his way. Of course, that voodoo curse started it all 35 years ago today, when Child’s Play stabbed its way into theaters on November 9, 1988.
While Chucky’s journey continues to surprise through new revelations, characters, and sharp narrative turns, it’s anchored by the killer’s unrelenting pursuit of vengeance and his voodoo origins. That voodoo curse also allows for one of the most notable deaths in the series for its almost meta-levels of doll-on-doll violence.

As the daughter of Chucky franchise special effects artist Tony Gardner, director Kyra Elise Gardner offers a unique perspective on the killer doll’s lasting impact in the Screambox Original documentary Living with Chucky.

It is hard to believe that Star Trek premiered on NBC back in 1966. The sci-fi television series that took place during the 23rd Century only ran for three seasons but still went on to become one of the most popular entertainment franchises in history.
The original TV show revolving around the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise may have come off the air in 1969, but countless movies have been made since. And some Star Trek fans might be shocked to learn that Eddie Murphy was almost in one of them.

As Gerard Johnstone's "M3GAN" continues to slay audiences at the box office, fans of the killer doll movie have compared it to the horror genre's most notorious deadly toy (and slasher icon) Chucky, who has been tiptoe-ing into our collective nightmares since the first "Child's Play" movie in 1988. Other than Chucky's lack of song-and-dance skills, the major difference between him and the blonde artificial intelligence prototype is that she is the product of tech advancement gone awry, whereas the Good Guy doll's origins lie in supernatural soul-swapping (and perhaps more). It wasn't always that way, though. In fact, Don Mancini's initial story had no killer's soul to swap at all.

In 1975, Greenpeace — the global environmentalist activist group — launched their successful "Save the Whales" campaign, designed to raise awareness for the world's dwindling whale population. Their goal was to ban commercial whaling worldwide, a practice that, according to the International Whaling Commission, peaked in the 1960s. Happily, their campaign was successful. In 1986, commercial whaling was indeed banned in the United States. Additionally, "Save the Whales" became a widely known slogan, and many Greenpeace supporters sported the organization's bumper stickers, helpfully spreading the word on the issue. The slogan became so well known, in fact, it even came to be mocked by comedians and satirists.

Over 30 years ago, horror fans were introduced to cinema’s most infamous, beloved, and fun-sized slasher – Chucky. While he has had quite the success on the silver screen and small screen, we’re going all the way back to where it started. Don Mancini’s original terrifying Child’s Play, directed by Tom Holland (no relation to the friendly neighborhood one), paved the way for the killer Chucky doll to become the formidable horror icon that he is today. Child’s Play 2 (directed by John Lafia with a screenplay by Don Mancini) ups the kill count, wisecracks, and special effects even if the terror takes more of a back seat this time around. But which Chuck is the one that you don’t f**k with? Only one way to find out: Face Off!

What becomes a legend most? Well, in the case of Marilyn Monroe, it’s countless books, feature films, TV movies, limited series, documentaries and even a Broadway musical. “Blonde,” the latest film about the influential sex symbol, who starred in such films as 1953’s “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” and 1959’s ‘Some Like it Hot” and tragically died at the age of 36 in 1962, has been polarizing critics and audiences since it premiered at the recent Venice Film Festival.

Tom Holland's 1988 film "Child's Play" was, at its heart, an indictment of an ever-bloating Christmastime consumption frenzy. Between 1983 and 1986, Coleco's Cabbage Patch Kids were the most in-demand toy of the season, and stories were regularly written about the dolls' success and the riots caused by parents trying to buy them. Embittered by the frenzy, "Child's Play" screenwriters Don Mancini, John Lafia, and Holland wrote a movie about the hottest Christmas toy of the season -- in their script, an electronic talking interactive doll called a Good Guy -- coming to life and committing murder. The conceit was that a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) was mortally wounded when fleeing a pursuing cop (Chris Sarandon). With his dying breaths, he chanted a magical spell and shunted his soul into a nearby Good Guy doll. The doll comes into the possession of the young Andy (Alex Vincent) and...

In a world with Michael Myers, Freddy Kreuger, and Jason Voorhees, a new slasher villain would make his mark in the horror genre in 1988, and that iconic character would turn out to be Charles Lee Ray aka Chucky. The comedy-horror was a success at the box office, making nearly $50 million on a production budget of $10 million. Following the first film, seven other Child’s

This article contains spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery Season 3, Episode 12, “There Is a Tide…”
Remember that time when Admiral James T. Kirk pretended to be a socialist so he didn’t have to pay the bill on a pizza date? In Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Dr. Gillian Taylor (Catherine Hicks) rolls her eyes as Kirk is taken-aback about having to pay for the pizza and one round of Michelob beers. Gillian says, “Don’t tell me that they don’t have money in the 23rd Century.” Kirk replies faux-innocently, “Well, we don’t!”
Even by that point, Trekkies knew that Kirk was playing dumb. This is the same Kirk who successfully staged a hostile takeover of a gangster planet in “A Piece of the Action,” and was more than a little bit familiar with the belly-dancer cafe scene on the planet Argelius II in “Wolf in the Fold.

It’s been 31 years since audiences first met Chucky, an adorable doll who has been possessed by the soul of a serial killer, and kids have been having nightmares ever since. It’s been a strange journey for Chucky through all the “Child’s Play” movies. He’s gone on road trips, gone to mental institutions, gone to Hollywood, and even gone to military school. And with Chucky going to an all-new franchise — even while the original series remains active — it’s time to take another look at all of the “Child’s Play” movies and see how they rank.
8. Child’s Play 3 (1991)
The worst “Child’s Play” movie (so far) has an idea so arbitrary it barely makes sense: What if a killer doll was at a teen military academy? That’s not much to work with, and although some of the kills are noteworthy — especially the paintball game...

Orion Pictures will release the reboot of “Child’s Play,” starring Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gabriel Bateman, on June 21, 2019.
Plaza will portray the mother who gives her son a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature. Henry will play the role of a police detective and Bateman will portray the son. Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke are also in the cast.
Lars Klevberg (“Polaroid”) directed from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith, based on the original motion picture released in 1988 about the soul of serial killer Charles Lee “Chucky” Ray being transferred into a doll, which is then given as a gift to a young boy by his widowed mother, who was played by Catherine Hicks in the original. While most of the big horror franchises of the decade were getting the sequel treatment in 1988—a year that saw the release of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers, Phantasm II, Poltergeist III, The Howling IV and even Critters 2: The Main Course—one of the biggest and most lasting franchises of the next three decades was just getting its start. Yes, the 1988 release of Tom Holland’s Child’s Play kicked off 30 years of murderous antics from Charles Lee Ray, the serial killer who had his soul transferred into a Good Guys doll named Chucky. Seven movies, one recently announced remake, and another recently announced TV series later, the Child’s Play series is as strong as ever, even outlasting many of its ’80s franchise contemporaries.

Stan Dragoti, the ad man-turned-film director who co-created the “I Love New York” campaign and is best known for his comedy films “Love at First Bite” and “Mr. Mom,” died July 13. He was in an assisted living facility and had been experiencing health issues following open heart surgery in 2014, the Hollywood Reporter reports.
Born in 1932 in New York to Albanian immigrant parents, Dragoti began his career directing commercials, most prominently for pioneering ad agency Wells Rich Greene beginning in 1966. There, he formed a creative partnership with future ad legend Charlie Moss, leading them to co-write the script for Dragoti’s debut feature film, the revisionist Western “Dirty Little Billy” in 1972.
The pair remained close after Dragoti’s departure from Wells Rich Greene in 1972. Five years later, Moss recruited Dragoti to help create the commercials for the “I Love New York” ad campaign, introduced in 1977.

Turner Classic Movies continues with its Gay Hollywood presentations tonight and tomorrow morning, June 8–9. Seven movies will be shown about, featuring, directed, or produced by the following: Cole Porter, Lorenz Hart, Farley Granger, John Dall, Edmund Goulding, W. Somerset Maughan, Clifton Webb, Montgomery Clift, Raymond Burr, Charles Walters, DeWitt Bodeen, and Harriet Parsons. (One assumes that it's a mere coincidence that gay rumor subjects Cary Grant and Tyrone Power are also featured.) Night and Day (1946), which could also be considered part of TCM's homage to birthday girl Alexis Smith, who would have turned 96 today, is a Cole Porter biopic starring Cary Grant as a posh, heterosexualized version of Porter. As the warning goes, any similaries to real-life people and/or events found in Night and Day are a mere coincidence. The same goes for Words and Music (1948), a highly fictionalized version of the Richard Rodgers-Lorenz Hart musical partnership.

[[tmz:video id="0_xpya321h"]] Stephen Collins confessing to child molestation won't stop his "7th Heaven" wife, Catherine Hicks, from sharing the screen with him again for a reunion. I really enjoyed the Leonard Nimoy-directed film Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and it did really well at the box office. Regardless of how much people liked the movie, there was apparently a lot of behind-the-scenes drama in getting it to the big screen. It's hard to believe that it's been 30 years since that movie was released.
The story centers around Kirk, Spock, and their crew traveling back in time to 1986 on a mission to retrieve two humpback whales and bring them to the 23rd century to save the Earth from an alien probe.
During a recent interview with THR, screenwriter Steve Meerson opened up about the development of the film and revealed that Eddie Murphy originally had a role in it. He said:
"They knew they wanted to make a movie that would make a statement about the environment. They knew that they wanted it to include whales.
