- After seeing "Star Wars" on opening day in 1977, George Hesse decided to make the film business his career. He began shortly thereafter while still in high school by shooting Super 8mm movies in his home town of Washington DC.
After graduating from Denison University in Granville, OH with a BA in Cinema, George moved to Wilmington, NC to begin his professional film career. After doing a variety of different jobs, including plasterer, driver, production assistant, set dresser and grip, George ended up in the camera department where he has stayed ever since.
In 1994, George made the move up to first assistant cameraman. He has been working as a first assistant ever since.

- In 1994, George attended a week long Steadicam Workshop taught by Garrett Brown in Historic Yellow Springs, PA.
- He attended a week long Film Lighting Workshop taught by Peter James also at the International Film and Television Workshops in Rockport, ME.
- George attended the Camera Assistant's Workshop taught by Doug Hart at the International Film and Television Workshops in Rockport, ME. George later returned to the Camera Assistant's Workshop as an assistant instructor.
- George's first paying job in the film business was as an extra in "Blue Velvet". Unfortunately, his scenes did not make it to the final film.
- George has worked on over 75 music videos for artists including, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj, Mick Jagger, Santana, Enrique Iglesias, Sheryl Crow, the Black Eyed Peas and Marilyn Manson.
