Actor and New York native Robert De Niro clashed with pro-Trump protesters outside of the former president’s criminal hush-money trial in Manhattan on Tuesday.
The legendary actor was tapped by the Biden-Harris campaign to provide counter-messaging to the constant stream of Trump allies who have used the trial as a gathering point to broadcast the former president’s messaging.
“Donald Trump doesn’t belong in my city,” De Niro said. “We New Yorkers used to tolerate him when he was just another grubby real estate hustler masquerading as a big shot.

Sean Penn urged the White House to take a more aggressive approach toward arming Ukraine, telling a crowd at a screening of his film Superpower that those who are influencing U.S. policy “need to get out of the pure caution business.”
“I don’t mind being foolish in saying that I deeply believe, whether Democrat or Republican, if this was an issue that one of the parties chose to commit to, in arming Ukraine, that not only would it be a principal win, but it would be a political win. I think we are hungering for that kind of decisiveness,” Penn told CBS News’ Major Garrett.
“Caution has been very important, humanly and politically … But many times in emergencies, restraint is the enemy of action,” Penn added. “I think that there are influential people, perhaps influential with our president, who they themselves need to be encouraged to get out...

Let It Be known that Michael Fanone does not in any way, shape, or form want to visit the U.S. Capitol. “It’s so fucking lame,” he tells me on the phone one August night as we’re discussing what we should do over the next few days together. What he absolutely does not want to do is this: He does not want to roam the so-called hallowed halls of democracy or gaze pensively upon the portraits of dead white men or retrace the steps he took on Jan.

The hosts of “Morning Joe” were disgusted Thursday morning after a Capitol police officer who was injured during the Jan. 6 insurrection revealed that most of the Republican lawmakers he protected that day avoid interacting with him.
During his appearance on the show, Aquilino Gonell recounted his experience from the historic day, telling the hosts he spent “almost five hours” fighting rioters as they stormed the Capitol. He added that it’s still hard to process what happened despite a good recovery process – particularly when all but two Republicans ignore him now.
“You have a lot of the people we protected on that day downplaying what happened. Sometimes I run into them in the hallway, and they pretend not to see me,” Gonell said. “They avoid me or bolt to the right or to the left or pretend to be doing something else.”

Former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn is setting the record straight: He does not accept convicted rioter Stephen Ayres’ apology, despite what a viral social media post may imply.
Following Tuesday’s Jan. 6 House committee hearing, Ayres – who testified that then President Donald Trump was “riling up” his supporters to march on the Capitol – approached Dunn and fellow Capitol officers Michael Fanone and Aquilino Gonell to offer his apologies. The moment was captured and circulated online, with one Twitter user captioning the image “An apology given and accepted.”
However, that does not appear to be the case.
Just 27 minutes after the above was posted to Twitter, Dunn quote tweeted the note with his own correction, implying that the apology was given, but he did not accept it.

Update: The impact of the January 6th Committee hearing was probably felt more in the Cannon Caucus Room than outside of it: As an extended video was played of the attack, it was particularly wrenching for the lawmakers, law enforcement and members of the media who were there that day and witnessed it.
But the hearing itself went by rather briskly relative to other congressional events, as the committee seemed to want to give a taste of their case ahead — that Trump is to blame for what happened on January 6th. The bits of revelation were like teasers of the topics for the hearings ahead.
“What happened on January 6th is kind of the end of the story, but really the root of it is that Trump was determined to stay in power, regardless of the election,” Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-wa) said afterward.

In May 2021, people who lived through the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol came to Republican lawmakers with a straightforward ask: Support the formation of an independent commission to investigate what happened that day and why.
The group included several people who’d been personally — and tragically — affected by the day’s events. Mike Fanone is a former D.C. police officer whose body-camera footage shows supporters of Donald Trump beating him as they attack the Capitol. Harry Dunn was a Capitol Police officer who endured racist abuse during the attack. Sandra Garza...

Exclusive: The January 6 assault on the US Capitol, considered the worst attack on democracy since the Civil War, will be the subject of a feature film scripted and to be directed by Billy Ray as his follow up to the highly rated Showtime miniseries The Comey Rule. Joining him on J6 is Adam McKay, who is in the Oscar hunt now for Don’t Look Up. McKay will produce along with Todd Schulman, Josh McLaughlin, Cullen Hoback and Shane Salerno, latter of whom was exec producer on the Jeff Daniel-Brendan Gleeson-starrer The Comey Rule. Deadline has confirmed that the script will be shopped to studios and streamers imminently, and that conversations with equity financiers have already begun.
Ray had originally expected to long look at the events of January 6 in the form of another limited series. Deeply affected by the attack, he traveled to Washington, D.C. within days of the siege,...

Updated, with additional coverage details: The first anniversary of the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol will be marked by continuous coverage across the broadcast and cable news networks, as reporters and anchors recount the events of that day while sharing plenty of consternation over what has happened since.
The political polarization that has gripped Washington, and much of the country, will be evident by who is expected to participate in commemoration events. Few Republicans are expected, with President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Senate and House Democratic leaders slated to speak at a ceremony Thursday morning.
Former President Donald Trump, whose false claims that the election was stolen from him led his supporters to storm the Capitol, nixed plans to hold a press conference at Mar-a-Lago that would have been a kind of counterprogramming to the D.C. events. While there were reports that Trump’s...

Nobody is going into Dumb And Dumber To expecting to be see a Wes Anderson or Woody Allen movie. We aren't talking about Oscar caliber writing or acting here. Two aspiring show creators launched a lawsuit against TruTV today for supposedly lifting their idea for a series about shoplifters. In their suit (read it here) Harry Dunn and Steven Bloch say that in March 2008 they pitched TrueTV a show called Hands Off The Merchandise about identifying and catching shoplifters for retailers. Actually, the duo, who say they came up with the idea for the show, didn’t actually engage with the network. Producers Scott Hallock and Kevin Healey, with whom Dunn and Bloch signed a collaboration agreement, did that for them. In 2009, after various meetings and “enthusiasm,” as the suit puts it, on the network’s part, TruTV told Hallock and Healey that they were going to pass on the idea. The producers passed the bad news onto Bloch and Dunn. In February 2012, TruTV ran a special called Caught Red Handed. The network plans to air a series of...

Rumors of a "Dumb and Dumber" sequel have been... slightly exaggerated. According to director Peter Farrelly, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels have agreed to return to the franchise after 19 years to reprise their original roles of Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunn.
Word is that Sean Anders and John Morris are working on a script, and Peter will direct with his brother Bobby Farrelly. However, Entertainment Weekly reports that the film does not quite have a green light, though conversations are "moving along."
"It's the first sequel we've ever done and we've got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back," Peter told ComingSoon.net. "We did not do 'Dumb and Dumberer.' That was a studio thing."
A studio thing we'd rather forget.
