This The Walking Dead: Dead City review contains spoilers.
The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 4
The idea that anyone could be too much of a psychopath for the Saviors is, honestly, hard to swallow. The first time we meet Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan on The Walking Dead, he introduces himself by bashing a couple of fan favorite characters to death. His chief lieutenant, Simon (Steven Ogg), is at least as bad as his boss. None of the Savior leadership were good people; at the time, the Saviors title seemed ironic. Now that Negan has been established a little better on The Walking Dead: Dead City, it’s easy to see just how things got so out of control. If Simon is the voice of reason, then things are too far gone to save.
It’s no wonder Maggie has such a grudge against The Croat (Zeljko Ivanek) for taking her son.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 3
My initial comparison between The Walking Dead: Dead City and Escape from New York was, at first glance, only surface level. There are similarities, clearly, but I had no idea that The Croat (Zeljko Ivanek) was having gladiator fights in a non-union store-brand equivalent of the Octagon. Now it’s clear that Dead City is a riff on Escape from New York, and as far as things to pattern your show after, you could do worse than John Carpenter. He’s the master of genre flicks, after all; for all the emphasis on human drama and soap opera emotions, The Walking Dead universe is a survival horror universe at its very core, and touches like this show a willingness to embrace that.
Of course, you have to have something in between all the special effects and action sequences.

Jack embarks on a mission to confirm the intelligence, but things quickly go awry, and he is wrongly implicated in a larger conspiracy. Accused of treason, with a Red Notice out for his arrest, Jack is forced to run from his own government, if he has any hope of uncovering the rogue faction before it’s too late. The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 1
It’s amazing what Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been able to accomplish with Negan’s redemption arc in a few short episodes of The Walking Dead. It wasn’t all that long ago that Negan was still a villain, but a great bottle episode and a mission behind enemy lines to save Alexandria is enough to push him well down the road to a redemption arc, even if Maggie seems bound and determined not to fall for it.
At no point during “Acheron Part 1” is Negan unreasonable; if anything, he’s the only reasonable member of the party, and when he speaks up, it’s clear that people are listening to him to Maggie’s consternation and detriment. It’s not that Maggie is being unreasonable as much as it is Negan is being reasonable, and that creates some issues in the group.

Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the floor. And as you’ll see in this sneak peek at the first scene of the last season of AMC’s The Walking Dead (premiering Sunday at 9/8c), it’s a walker — a whole lot of walkers as a matter of fact.
As the goosebump-raising clip starts off, Maggie, Daryl, Carol, Rosita, Jerry and a whole host of our regulars are busy retrieving supplies from what looks like a military base when the slumbering zombies scattered about the room are awakened in most cinematic fashion. (Props to director Kevin Dowling for that cool-ass shot.

When AMC released the official synopsis for The Walking Dead’s 11th and final season last week, fans could be forgiven for being a little disappointed.
On an action-heavy show known for shambling hordes of corpses and terrifying villains, the description seemed to fall short of final season expectations. After your characters have confronted cultish freaks who wear the skin of the dead to blend in, concepts like food insecurity don’t seem quite so cinematic.
Now, as part of its “11 Weeks of Reveals Until Season 11” of The Walking Dead, AMC has unveiled titles for the final season’s first eight episodes and some additional descriptions of the two-part season premiere. And you know what? The season premiere gets such a cool episode name that food insecurity suddenly sounds a lot more compelling. First, the episode titles…
1101 – Acheron: Part I
1102 – Acheron: Part II
1103 – Hunted
1104 – Rendition
1105 – Out of the Ashes

FX has released the trailer for season 2 of “Mayans M.C.,” and things are getting real for the Motorcycle Club as Ez and Angel search for the truth behind their mother’s death.
The next chapter of Kurt Sutter’s “Sons of Anarchy” franchise, “Mayans M.C.” is a crime drama set in a post-Jax Teller world, in which Ezekiel “Ez” Reyes (Jd Pardo) is a prospect in the Mayans M.C. charter in the California-Mexico border town of Santo Padre.
This season, Ez and his brother Angel (Clayton Cardenas) struggle to reconcile — but then Ez drops a bomb:
“It’s about mom,” he says. “I know who killed her.”

Get ready to say goodbye to the First Son of Texas.
In the official trailer for the second and final season of AMC’s “The Son,” which is exclusive to TheWrap, Eli McCullough is dealing with a whole mess of family trouble both in his past and his present. And then the Pierce Brosnan-led Western drama goes and drops another timeline into the mix to stir the pot even more during its final batch of episodes.
Watch the video above.
Here’s the official description for Season 2, per AMC:
Eli McCullough (Pierce Brosnan) will stop at nothing to secure his legacy against the backdrop of the nascent oil industry of 1917. His tools are deceit, fraud and murder — weapons he wields with the effortless skill of the Comanche warrior he once was. But the biggest challenge he faces will be quelling a civil war under his own roof, triggered by...

AMC’s martial arts drama Into the Badlands will end after the upcoming final eight episodes of its third season, which will debut March 24. The network also has set an April 24 premiere date for Season 2 of drama The Son, starring Pierce Brosnan, which will be its last.
Neither cancellation is particularly surprising. Both Into the Bandlands and The Son were renewed for Season 3 and Season 2, respectively, almost two years ago. Into the Badlands’ 16-episode third season was completed awhile ago, the cast was released, and a number of them have taken on new acting gigs. As for The Son, as a Western, it did draw respectable viewership though it was old-skewing. Additionally, I hear star Brosnon only had signed a short-term contract which is the case with many movie stars who do TV series these days.

Written by David Weddle and Bradley Thompson
Directed by Kevin Dowling
Airs Sundays at 10pm Est on FX
Vaun’s death at the beginning of the season solidified Gus’s determination to serve only himself. However, it seems as if fate says otherwise. When Quinlan tracks him down and gives him an ultimatum, it’s clear that Gus has a special calling; Quinlan’s own protegee, Vaun, had chosen him to be trained to take down The Master. Though as of right now, what makes Gus something of a “chosen one” is unclear, it’s a real kicker that he had finally found some control over his own life, even if the romantic subplot that comes with it feels forced. There is nothing outside of heterosexual attraction and the feeling of impending doom that fosters chemistry between Gus and Aanya. So while it may be...

The Americans, Season 3, Episode 6: “Born Again”
Written by Tracey Scott Wilson
Directed by Kevin Dowling
Airs Wednesdays at 10pm (Et) on FX
More and more, this season of The Americans feels like it’s centered around Paige. Although the myriad subplots weave together to paint a broad portrait of Cold War life, she’s become important enough to feel like as good a candidate as any for the show’s emotional core. Paige serves a dual function in the narrative: her embrace of Christianity is interesting in its own right and is also an ideal lens for the viewer to understand the complicated relationship between Elizabeth and Phillip. This week’s episode takes its title from Paige’s baptism, so “Born Again” naturally focuses on her, and she continues to be a perfect anchoring point for the show’s broader concerns.

The Americans, Season 3, Episode 5: “Salang Pass”
Written by Stephen Schiff
Directed by Kevin Dowling
Airs Wednesdays at 10pm (Et) on FX
Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell are ostensibly co-stars on The Americans, but the former’s character has increasingly become the more interesting one. While Elizabeth’s unceasing dedication to the Ussr has become a bit one-dimensional (despite her taking Paige to church), Phillip’s conflict between his commitment and his growing embrace of American life makes him a more dynamic and complex personality. Her steeliness makes her a fascinating “straight man” to his less disciplined self, but it’s Phillip’s lack of self-control that makes for the more human and fascinating conflict. This week’s episode, “Salang Pass,” amplifies the compelling nature of his character, having him act abhorrently and testing the limits of the viewer’s sympathies without completely severing our connection with him.

The Americans Season 2, Episode 7 “Arpanet”
Written by Joshua Brand
Directed by Kevin Dowling
Airs Wednesdays at 10pm Et on FX
Lies, lies, lies…. can’t any of these people just be honest with each other?!! I’m kidding, of course – but “Arpanet” seems to go out of its way to throw shade over every character, from the increasingly creepy Laric, to quietly conspicuous Kate and the ever-facetious Oleg. There isn’t a lot of coherent evidence as to what these people are up to (or more importantly, where their alliances lie) – and because of that, “Arpanet” is a tough egg to crack, especially with six hours left for these motivations and grand plans to come to light.
This ambiguity works as as aesthetic tool: even the most banal conversations in “Arpanet” become fascinating affairs, especially with characters whose plans are growing more complex as the season continues (I’m looking at you,...

"Arpanet" is a tight, propulsive episode of The Americans, a show that produces little else. Written by Joshua Brand and directed by Kevin Dowling, it also moves the story forward politically, moving it deeper into the '80s and closer to the end of the Cold War — not that anyone involved in this tale has any idea that there will be an end.The main lines of action are Oleg, Nina, Stan, and the lie detector test; Phillip's attempt to bug Arpanet (the progenitor of what we now know as the internet), and Elizabeth's "handling" of Lucia, the Nicaraguan-born Soviet agent who's as hot tempered as she is committed. The latter story line ties in with the ongoing plot about Andrew Larrick, the Navy Seal and Soviet asset believed to have massacred a family of agents in the season premiere. In the end, much of this feeds back into the U.

Zap2it: What's the state of the relationship between your "Necessary Roughness" character, mysterious problem solver Nico, and sports psychologist Dr. Dani Santino (Callie Thorne)?
Scott Cohen: I personally think Nico's very much in love with Dani, [but] he keeps everything close to the vest. So he knows he can't enter into anything that might suggest a romantic interest in her, because that poses more problems for her. He's more concerned about her safety and protection more than anything else. What happens through the course of the season is that you feel he's very much interested in doing something about his desires but prevents himself.
So you see lots of tense moments between the two of them that, in the latter half of the season, come to a bubbling explosion.
Zap2it: She slapped his face in the season premiere. What was it like shooting that?
Scott Cohen: It was fun,...
