The daughter of a movie producer/exhibitor, she trained at the Theatre Guild Drama School in New York and made her stage debut in 'Why Not?' in 1923. Her first film was as Paul Muni's sister in 'The Valiant' (1929), then partnered John Wayne, Will Rogers and future husband George O'Brien in some of their lesser features. She returned to the stage in 1932 as Paula Jordan in 'Dinner at Eight'.
