Morale following the breakdown of the negotiations between the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and SAG-AFTRA on Wednesday evening seemed depleted as actors and supporters walked back and forth in front of Hollywood studios, carrying “SAG-AFTRA on Strike!” signs that have been omnipresent at company entrances over the past three months.
Outside of Netflix in Hollywood, there was a lively, crowded atmosphere with DJ Evan Shafran spinning tunes, while multiple members of the negotiating committee were present. Duncan-Crabtree-Ireland gave a short speech, while “one day longer/one day stronger” chants rang through the air.
Presence at studios like Amazon, Sony, Disney (which hosted a pumpkin carving and bracelet-making station) and Warner Bros., however, seemed more muted than on many other days: no bulging crowds spilling into the streets, and fewer food and coffee trucks than before. It was comedy day on the Warner Bros. picket line. There were...

The film stars Ryan Kwanten of “True Blood,” along with Dolph Lundgren (“The Expendables”), Dermot Mulroney (“Hanna”), Scott Adkins (“John Wick: Chapter 4”) and Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke (“The Wrestler”).
“Section 8” was written by Chad Law (“Drive Hard”), Josh Ridgway (“Howlers”) and directed by Christian Sesma (“Vigilante Diaries”).

Midway, directed by Roland Emmerich, is a kinda-remake of a not-very-good movie from 1976 about the impressive World War II battle. For as consequential as the Battle of Midway was, let us hope there will one day be a feature film to properly match the subject matter. The first Midway, directed by Jack Smight, starred some of the biggest–and oldest–stars at the time: Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, and Robert Mitchum, to name a few. This new one is a little lighter on the star power. There’s Dennis Quaid, Aaron Eckhart, and a wig-heavy Woody Harrelson to be sure, but the majority of screen time is devoted to a younger set of talent.
Ed Skrein leads the ensemble, playing a cocksure soldier named Dick Best. It is a character name that, was it not based on a real-life hero, would be a bit too much. But then, it does fit here.

Rarely do you find a war film that's invigorating. These films, however artistically presented, often recall painful memories. It's like rubbing salt to raw wounds. Director Roland Emmerich's "Midway", is no different. It is an old-fashioned war film about America's victory over Japan in the Battle of Midway.
The film claims to be a true account of the war that changed the course of American History. It is dedicated to the American and Japanese soldiers who fought at Midway during the World War II.
The film follows the story of Us Navy Sailors and aviators who persevered through the tragedy of Pearl Harbour and were charged in a daring combat against the Japanese at Midway, which was the turning point of the war.
The narrative begins in December 1937 in Tokyo, with a meeting between Us intelligence officer Edwin Layton (Patrick Wilson) and Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto (Toyokawa Etsushi), in...

At least “Pearl Harbor” had panache. The best thing you can say about Roland Emmerich’s “Midway” — — is that it doesn’t completely dehumanize the Japanese characters. In fact, Admiral Yamamoto and his men are almost (but not quite) three-dimensional compared to the human cartoons on the American side, a bunch of generic lugs who talk like they’re from Brooklyn, act like they want just wandered off the set of “Anchors Aweigh,” and feel like real people in name only.
It’s a shame, because this movie sometimes evinces a genuine respect for men on both sides of the fight, and for the courage required to die for a country whose faraway leaders will never make that sacrifice; “Midway” is nothing if not an aggressively basic reminder that America is only as strong as the people who are willing to protect it with their lives. Alas, those people deserve...

Midway has director Roland Emmerich putting the historic World War II battle through his disaster-movie lens.
Midway will provide yet another hub for ostentatious cinematic disaster sequences from director Roland Emmerich, the industry’s premiere weaver of wanton world-wrecking, though this time – akin to Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor – to the backdrop of World War II.
With the title’s obvious reference to the post-Pearl-Harbor bellwether battle of the war’s Pacific theater, the film will dramatize said event with quite the cast, including Woody Harrelson, Patrick Wilson, Luke Evans, Jake Weber, Aaron Eckhart and Dennis Quaid – all of whom play fact-based figures in the monumental conflagration.

The full trailer for Midway has arrived, manifesting with every bit of elevated onscreen intensity that comes to mind when pitched the idea of a Roland Emmerich movie about the Battle of Midway.

When will Grimm stop the Wesen-of-the-week stories in favour of wrapping up its overall arcs in time for the finale?

Another week, another random Wesen-related mystery – this time we were presented with a tale that was ‘heavily influenced’ by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
The gist of it is a scientist – named Victor Shelley, I kid you not – attempts to bring his dead son back to life, with the aid of a few stolen body parts from the local cemetery. What he doesn’t take into account is those body parts are taken from Wesen, leading him to create a human-hybrid monster with murder on his mind. We’re...

'Cast Away' Movie with Tom Hanks stranded on a deserted island 'Cast Away' Movie review: Tom Hanks excellent in high-concept Hollywood flick disguised as existential adventure drama Most people will see Robert Zemeckis' Cast Away as a celebration of the Triumph of the Human Spirit. A minority, myself included, will prefer the more mundane explanation that the film merely depicts a man following his survival instincts, which propel him – like any other animal, from cockroaches to crocodiles – to fight to remain alive almost against his will. Whichever way one chooses to view the survival of Tom Hanks' Federal Express engineer Chuck Noland (No-land, get it?) after being stranded for years on a deserted island (mostly shot in Monuriki, Fiji), Cast Away is little more than an elaborate, populist star vehicle disguised as an existential The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe-esque drama. A volleyball named Wilson The story of a...

- Jessica Biel has signed on to UA's Die a Little, based on the novel by Megan Abbott. The film will be a co-production between Richard Gladstein's FilmColony banner (The Nanny Diaries, Finding Neverland, Killshot) and Biel's own Iron Ocean Films. The novel centers around a schoolteacher, and her Lapd detective brother- as their lives are torn apart by the arrival of a mysterious woman. While the book takes place in 1954 Los Angeles, the film will be updated to the present day. Screen writing duo Marcia and Geoffrey Blake are writing the screenplay. This could be a very important project for Biel. We all know that she's an extremely beautiful woman, but so far her onscreen roles have not been that interesting. She tried to escape her "hot chick" typecasting with the film Home of the Brave, where she played an Iraq war veteran. This sounds like a potentially cool little noir throwback.
