What a fun way to open a show that took quite a wild turn. Idol producers were giving us a treat before giving us the bad news. While an elimination did not in fact take place, this song choice and wildly fun performance was definitely there to soften the blow and send this Idol week out on as a high a note as possible. The top seven did a wonderful job performing Pink’s “Raise Your Glass,” so wonderful that it could easily be named as one of the best group performances of the series. Viewers could see that the finalists were all having so much genuine fun. The song in itself is a ball of fun but what really took it to the next level was every single contestant letting loose while still maintaining control of their vocals. It was great! We were also reminded in this performances what...

The drama that showed its face this week on American Idol unfortunately did not make this week’s performances anymore exciting to watch. There were a few standouts this week while the majority of the contestants failed to deliver more than their usual goods as they took on songs from the years they were born. More singers were thrown out of their comfort zones and the end result wasn’t impressive. With one contestant disqualified and one being eliminated tonight, there’s plenty of opportunity for anyone to get the cut.
Contestant, Jermaine Jones did not lay out all of his dirty laundry on the table during auditions and those skeletons came to haunt him this week. Had Jones been honest and upfront about his four warrants, the producers could have worked with him, at least guiding him in the right direction on his way out the show but that...

Coming to you on February 8th is a new Fox comedy, Traffic Light. Hoping to capitalize on the success of another new show, Traffic Light follows Raising Hope, which is returning with new episodes for the spring. Despite the lead in, and even despite a rather good turn at comedy, I have my doubts that Traffic Light will ultimately survive long enough to be picked up for another season.
I hope I'm wrong, because I've looking forward to this show since early last summer (when it was called Mixed Signals... an immeasurably superior name). The trouble is, even with some sharp writing, and a decent premise, the show has little in the way of powerful draws, and spring premieres have a high mortality rate. Worse, for its chances of success anyway, it relies on a slow, somewhat dry humor, with little from the area of "laugh out loud" comedy, and...

In what we think has been the best year in television quite possibly in decades, it's hard not to be excited for the announcement of this year's Emmy nominations. And while some of our favorites were missing from the list we think many categories could have been expanded to ten nominees (like the recent best feature film Oscar move) and still not pay homage to all the great work done this season.
So without further adieu here are our random thoughts on this year's Emmy nominations:
1) Glee dominates. With 19 nods, it was the most recognized series this year. Of course, Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison landed in best actress/actor categories and Jane Lynch made the Supporting Actress list. And it was no surprise either that both Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenowith got nods for guest spots. But, the best and biggest surprise was...

When Gleeks tuned in to Tuesday night's episode of "Glee," what they saw was the return of Broadway powerhouse Kristin Chenoweth's guilty pleasure April Rhodes. What Gleeks needed by night's end was a box of Kleenex. The night's musical performances were heartfelt covers and mash-ups that showcased Chenoweth, Amber Riley's newly Cheerio'd Mercedes, Chris Colfer's soulful Kurt and a lot of songs about home, thanks to "Glee" music producer Adam Anders.
"One of the most amazing moments in this episode is the duet between Matthew Morrison and Kristin Chenoweth, a mash-up between Burt Bacharach and [sung by] Barbra Streisand [of the 1971 Bacharach/ Hal David medley, 'One Less Bell to Answer'/ A House Is Not a Home']," Anders told MTV News at his recording studio in Hollywood. Ladies and gentlemen, "Glee" is back. And with it, the seemingly impossible task of living up to the already sky-high levels of hype leveled upon it during the show's ultra-long hiatus. Well, you can rest easy knowing that in "Hell-o," creator Ryan Murphy and his writers crafted a well-paced, clever episode of their Golden Globe-winning comedy that culminated in a musical number set to the Beatles' "Hello Goodbye."
What's changed at McKinley High since New Directions won regionals in December? Well, although Kurt, Mercedes and Rachel had hoped everything would be different, three slurpees to the face on their first day back proved otherwise. Sue Sylvester regained control of the Cheerios, thanks to a well-timed roofie that allowed her to take some very compromising photos of her in bed with Principal Figgins.

Glee has already featured Kristin Chenoweth, so we guess it's no surprise that her Wicked co-star Idina Menzel would also come aboard for a recurring role. Menzel is playing the vocal director for the Glee club's main competition, Vocal Adrenaline. She'll make her bow in the spring premiere episode "Hell-o", which airs on Tuesday, April 13th. Her character will be around for the rest of the season and will be a complicating love interest for Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison).
Is it just us, or is Menzel a slightly older dead-ringer for Lea Michele? Here's hoping her character is something like an older version of Rachel. It would be fun to imagine the over-achieving Gleeker's future, and that would be a way to do it.

Well, Gleeks, we finally made it to "Sectionals," the fall finale! Did you think it was worth the wait? Spoilers Ahead if you haven't seen tonight's episode. I, for one, nearly cried five times: Mercedes' solo, Rachel's solo, Mr. Schue on the phone hearing the gang perform at sectionals, and the two Will-Emma scenes. Here are my picks of best lines of the night: Puck: "Does it have to be tonight? Because I have my fight club." Emma (on her wedding): "We just pushed it back a few hours. Now it doesn't have to happen in broad daylight." Rachel:...

As the glee club bake sale cooked up tension in the Finn-Quinn-Puck triangle, young love blossomed between Artie and Tina. But when Tina admitted to Artie she’d been faking her stutter after they shared their first kiss, Artie rejected her, disappointed they no longer have something important in common. Meanwhile Rachel and Kurt gear-up for a "Diva Off" to determine who will sing the solo in "Defying Gravity" from the musical Wicked. And boy can Kurt hit those high-notes! Read the real-life story behind Kurt's diva moment. But Glee’s choreographers were the stars of Wednesday's episode. Artie’s rendition of Billy Idol's “Dancing With Myself” -- his first solo number -- really blew us away. If you've been waiting for a chance to hear his pipes fully featured, you were not disappointed. And when the entire glee club performed "Proud Mary" while seated in wheelchairs, they proved...

Chicago – We have written here several times about the genius of “Glee” (in May and again in September), but with the show having been off the air for a few weeks so the Yankees could win another World Series, we thought it was a good time to assess how the show has been progressing by taking an advanced look at tonight’s episode, the wonderful “Wheels”.
Television Rating: 5.0/5.0
Since the stellar debut, “Glee” has mostly been a series of highs but there have been signs of (no pun intended given the name of tonight’s episode) a show that could be accused of spinning its wheels. Some episodes have been a little lighter than others and some of the characters have threatened to become a bit repetitive. “Glee” is at its best when the character-driven humor is unexpected and unpredictable and there were recurring jokes in October “Glee” episodes that...

Before Mad Men's third season, fans wondered when, as in what year, series creator Matthew Weiner would resume the story.
There was reason for the anticipation: In the Season2 finale, Betty (January Jones) revealed to reformed womanizer Don (Jon Hamm) that she was pregnant, and viewers were curious how that would play out. But more significantly, everyone wondered whether or not Weiner would skip over the Nov. 22, 1963, assassination of President John F. Kennedy. After all, Weiner said more than a few times that he didn't think he had anything to add to the historical landmark.

Weather permitting, the World Series begins tonight in New York, pitting the revered Yankees against the defending champion Philadelphia Phillies. It's a great baseball matchup (even if you're a miserable Mets fan who's genetically programmed to despise both teams), featuring Mvp winners like Alex Rodriguez (pictured) and Ryan Howard and the unintentional comedy of Phillies skipper Charlie Manuel, who is a jarring reminder that baseball should end the tradition of coaches wearing uniforms. Oh yes, Will Schuester and Emma Pillsbury "could have danced all night," or even serenaded each other with "The Thong Song," and we would have been happy. There was also the quirky glimpse into Noah Puckerman's family TV ritual, Rachel Berry's mature understanding of her and Puck's relationship and the up and down fortunes of the hallway Big Quench wars to enjoy. But Sue Sylvester's antics this episode proved overwhelming, from her "Sue's Corner" advocacy of human-to-dog nuptials to her Battleship date with anchorman Rod and then her fabulous entrance in a zoot suit. However, the sight of an in-love, giddy Sue dancing free and wild with Will topped everything. Now there was a mash-up to behold! Although most of Emma's cute pieces are no longer available for purchase, check out what Eyrich has to say about the character's drool-worthy style. What was your inspiration for Emma's style? Oddly enough, Jayma is...

With homelessness already on the rise in the U.S., yesterday we got another bit of bad news: Fox Reality Channel is officially closing its doors in March, leaving scores of trash TV series and their aspiring "stars" without a place to rest their heads. Where will the tired (Punk'd), the weak (Househusbands of Hollywood, pictured), and the weary (Rob & Amber: Against the Odds) of reality TV go now? (Paradise Hotel, you can crash at my place anytime.) But even more importantly, could this signify some kind of saturation point for reality TV? Did Fox Reality Channel falter because Americans...

In case you haven't noticed, Dollhouse is tanking. It's second season premiere didn't perform well in the ratings, and last Friday's episode did even worse -- Stargate Universe kicked it in the cortex. Dollhouse is in very real danger of being canceled. Why isn't it doing better? Where did Joss Whedon and company go wrong? Perhaps that isn't fair -- the blame can't be put on Whedon's shoulders alone. There is Fox's decision to leave Dollhouse on Friday nights, bereft of any real advertising support -- a programming block of one. If Fox really wanted to give Dollhouse a chance,...

Glee</i> | Photo Credits: Carin Baer/Fox" style="margin:0 5px 5px" />In "The Rhodes Not Taken," Will brings in a ringer, April Rhodes, played by Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth, to replace Rachel. She's a bit of a bad influence on the group, though. Also, Finn tries to get Rachel to come back to glee by using an unconventional approach. Elsewhere, Quinn's morning sickness leads to a huge reveal. Let's get started...

I didn’t think it was possible, PopWatchers, but I now love Glee even more! Last night’s episode may have even trumped last week’s season premiere. I mean, they covered Bell Biv Devoe And Color Me Badd!!! How can you Not love this show! Is it wrong that I kinda would buy an Acafellas album? I thought they were so adorable. And their renditions of “This is How We Do It,” “Poison,” and “I Wanna Sex You Up” were actually really good. But the thing that I loved most about this episode was that it gave the spotlight to characters who hadn’t had big moments yet. Matthew Morrison, for one, really came alive last night. He just showed what a charismatic performer he is. And hello Mark Salling, aka Puck. Or I guess I should say hello Mark Salling’s abs. Sweet mercy. I think it’s...

Fox has released the synopsis and promo photos for episode 1.05 of Glee "The Rhodes Not Taken". Kristen Chenoweth joins the cast for the episode (and, wow, she's short compared to the other guys in the cast). There's also bowling….and possibly the suggestive use of a bowling ball.
A New Member Joins The Club On “Glee” Wednesday, September 30, On Fox
Kristin Chenoweth (“Pushing Daisies”) Guest-Stars
Will thinks the glee club desperately needs more of an edge, so he brings in his former classmate, April Rhodes (guest star Chenoweth), to spice things up. Will’s plan seems to be going smoothly until he realizes he may be losing a key member of the club in “The Rhodes Not Taken” episode of Glee airing Wednesday, Sept. 30 (9:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt) on Fox. (Gle-105) (TV-pg D, L)

Chicago – Ryan Murphy’s brilliant “Glee” is not only the best new show of the year, it’s off to one of the best starts for any series in the last several fall seasons. Much closer to Alexander Payne’s “Election” than Disney’s “High School Musical,” this is a clever blend of satire, pop tunes, laugh-out-loud comedy, and rich, interesting characters that you simply shouldn’t miss.
Television Rating: 5.0/5.0 Since I first reviewed “Glee,” I was worried about two things. One, is the show too quirky and unusual for TV? Could it suffer the same fate as other critically acclaimed shows that never found an audience like “Pushing Daisies” and “Veronica Mars”?
Two, would the quality of the premiere that was so good that Fox aired it four months early maintain itself? The jury is still out on the former but I’ve seen two more episodes (tonight’s “Showmance” and the fourth episode,...

Quiet down, everyone! Joan has an announcement. After only three episodes of its third season have aired, AMC's Mad Men has been renewed for season 4. Let's check in with some of our favorite characters for their reactions. Joan: I said congratulations didn't I? Although, sometimes when people get what they want, they realize how limited their goals were. Peggy: It's like a basket of kisses! Roger: [Lights cigarette, pours milk into vodka.] Pete: Let's dance! Betty: I don't move that well right now. Don loves to dance! Don: I hate to break it to you, but there is no big lie, there is no system, the universe is indifferent. Peggy: I want to smoke some marijuana. Cue celebratory PopWatch Dance Party in the comments! Chicago – Much closer to Alexander Payne’s “Election” than Disney’s “High School Musical,” the pilot for Ryan Murphy’s “Glee” is one of the best of the last several years, a clever blend of satire, pop tunes, laugh-out-loud comedy, and rich, interesting characters. The one thing I kept thinking during the pilot of “Glee”? This is too good for network TV. It will never last.
Television Rating: 5.0/5.0 “Glee” is about a high school Spanish teacher named Will (Matthew Morrison) who takes over a glee club of misfits including the overzealous Rachel (Lea Michele) and a football star (Cory Monteith) who refuses to be the bully he’s supposed to be.
Will wants to break down a few of the clique walls at his high school and bring joy back to the halls. Music will clearly be a major part of the show, as popular tunes like Amy Winehouse’s...

Chicago – Ryan Murphy is not a TV writer who believes in following the rules. He reached nearly iconic status from the loyal followers of FX’s “Nip/Tuck” and is trying to create water-cooler TV yet again with Fox’s very unique “Glee,” a show that we’ll review later this week (but you can check out a great clip here if you’re impatient).
“Glee” debuts on Fox…in the Fall? In an unusual move, the network is using the juggernaut of “American Idol” to introduce audiences to their new show next Tuesday, May 19th, 2009, but it won’t air again until the beginning of the 2009-10 season. Get your taste now and have the full meal in the fall. It’s an interesting idea.
Murphy took time out of his busy schedule for a conference about the new show and we have the highlights. Don’t miss our...
