It’s been almost 20 years since Mariah Carey last won a Grammy, so when she received the Global Impact Award from the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective, she offered a dose of her signature comical shade.
“Is this a real Grammy? I haven’t seen one in soooooo long,” she said Thursday night as she held the award.
“It’s weird. I don’t know,” Carey continued while laughing as the audience at the Fairmont Century Plaza cheered her on. “We’ll figure out what this is later.”
Carey is easily one of the best-selling acts of all-time and holds the record for most No. 1 hits — 20 — by a solo artist. She’s been nominated for 34 Grammys, winning five: best new artist and best female pop vocal performance (“Vision of Love”) in 1991, as well as three R&b honors at the 2006 ceremony for “We Belong Together” and The Emancipation of Mimi.

A celebrity-studded crowd gathered in the Atlanta Hawks home arena Friday to remember slain rapper Takeoff, a member of the hip-hop trio Migos.
Takeoff, born Kirsnick Khari Ball, was shot and killed earlier this month outside a Houston bowling alley.
The surviving members of Migos, Takeoff uncle Quavo and cousin Offset, were part of a crowd that included Justin Bieber, Cardi B, Yolanda Adams, CeeLo Green, and Teyana Taylor.
Drake delivered a eulogy comparing himself and Migos to the Rat Pack. Bieber (who did an acoustic version of his song “Ghost”) and Chloe Bailey had musical performances in Takeoff’s memory.
A social media clip of Drake’s eulogy saw him hail Takeoff as “Forever balanced. Whenever he would take his shades off, he had this thing about him that I loved – no matter what was going on around us he was, like, always kinda squinting, but like his eyes were wide open.

Earth, Wind & Fire was alternately singing about the 12th of never and the 21st night of September, but it was all about the 19th evening of June as the veteran group proved an obvious audience favorite during “Juneteenth: A Global Celebration for Freedom,” a multi-artist, multi-genre show at the Hollywood Bowl broadcast live on CNN Sunday to commemorate the national holiday.
Held to celebrate the anniversary of Black emancipation in the U.S., the concert spanned almost as wide an array of musical and performance styles as could be packed into a single prime-time slot, from soul to classical to country to jazz. That breadth established, the lineup had a special emphasis on artists that ruled the R&b world of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, leading an emcee to joke to the sold-out audience about a time “before all those knee replacements out there.”

Father’s Day and Juneteenth overlap this year, and there is no shortage of programming on television for the latter holiday, which celebrates the day in 1865 when Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas, and delivered the news that all enslaved people were free. The Emancipation Proclamation arrived two years later on Jan. 1, 1863.
Juneteenth has gained more awareness in recent years, finally becoming recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.

Kingdom Business is in the business of making messy television, and I’m here for it. The gospel drama, which is now streaming on BET+, features a charcuterie board of gripping drama: murder, blackmailing, strippers, sex scandals, dramatic slaps, a killer soundtrack and Michael Beach being trifling.
The show follows Denita Jordan (played by legendary gospel singer Yolanda Adams), the Queen of Gospel Music at First Kingdom Church and Kingdom Records in Atlanta. Despite her many successes, her label is on the brink of financial ruin, and her newest album isn’t pulling in enough funds to keep it afloat.

Yolanda Adams is about to slay our entire existence!
The Queen of Gospel and renaissance woman will show off more of her God-given talent when she stars in the BET+ soapy drama Kingdom Business.
The eight-episode original series will hit the streaming network on May 19, and based on the trailer; it's going to be a delicious binge.
Kingdom Business gives off Empire meets P-Valley with a touch of the late OWN hit Greenleaf, and we say that in the best possible way.
In fact, Adam's co-lead is none other than Empire star Serayah, and with these two women at the helm, we're guaranteed incredible performances and powerhouse singing that will give us chills.
Reigning Gospel queen Adams' will play a similarly titled character when she steps into the heels of Denita Jordan, the Queen of Gospel music, First Lady of First Kingdom Church, and the Hbic of Kingdom Records in a thriving Atlanta.

Three mystery celebrities hit the stage on Wednesday’s Group B final of “The Masked Singer.” Team Good was represented by Armadillo and Ringmaster while Team Cuddly sent out Miss Teddy. Everyone tried their best, but ultimately just one could prevail. Armadillo finished in third place and was revealed to be TV personality Dog the Bounty Hunter. The next to go was Miss Teddy, who belted out “Mercy” by Duffy earlier in the episode. The cuddly bear took off her mask to reveal Grammy and Tony-winning singer and actress, Jennifer Holliday.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 7, Episode 6, of “The Masked Singer,” “The Double Mask-Off — Round 2 Finals,” which aired April 13 on Fox.
The mystery of host Nick Cannon’s missing shirt wasn’t solved on Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” but the show did send one more disguised celebrity to its final round. That meant that two more contestants were eliminated in a double exit on this week’s show: Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman as the Armadillo, and Jennifer Holliday as Miss Teddy.
Armadillo aka Chapman was voted out after singing the traditional hymn “Amazing Grace.” Previous songs he performed included “Secret Agent Man,” by Johnny Rivers and “I Fought the Law,” by the Bobby Fuller Four.
As for Holliday, as Miss Teddy, she sang “Mercy,” by Duffy. Before that, she performed “Tell It to My Heart,” by Taylor Dayne, and “Tell Me You Love Me,...

Who is Miss Teddy? The judges are on a mission to find out during this week’s episode of “The Masked Singer.” And in a clip from Wednesday’s episode, exclusive to TheWrap, Ken Jeong thinks that one of the clues about her identity might be a personal jab at himself.
In the clip, which you can watch above, Jeong guesses that gospel singer Yolanda Adams might be inside the costume.
He’s met with a bit of skepticism from the other judges, but insists that one of the clues — a photo of Eddie Murphy — tipped him off.
“The Eddie Murphy really got me. Hear me out. Yolanda Adams saw me perform,” he begins, only to be cut off by host Nick Cannon, who brushes him off: “No she did not.”
“She did! I swear,” Jeong continues. “I would never lie in front of a gospel singer. Yolanda Adams saw...
