Ivan F. Boesky, the disgraced 1980s financier who inspired the cutthroat corporate raider Gordon Gekko character of Oliver Stone’s 1987 film Wall Street, died in his sleep today at his home in San Diego. He was 87.
His death was announced to The New York Times by his daughter Marianne Boesky.
Even before Michael Douglas’ indelible portrayal of Gekko made “Greed Is Good” a mantra of the Reagan Era, Boesky had already become a Wall Street evangelist of amoral, me-first philosophy. According to The Times, Boesky said in a 1986 commencement speech at the University of California, Berkeley, “Greed is all right, by the way. I think greed is healthy. You can be greedy and still feel good about yourself.” (Boesky would later say he didn’t recall making the statement.)

Rene Russo’s big break in “Major League” came with a minor problem.
The “Major League” writer/director David S. Ward recalled during the “Hollywood Gold” podcast (via Entertainment Weekly) that Russo was “so nervous” both in the audition and on set that she kept using her hands too much in scenes. As a result, Ward opted to “tie down” her hands so Russo could temper her gestures. “Major League” marked Russo’s first role.
“The only problem we had with her was she’s Italian, and when she gets going there’s a lot of the hands, a lot of the talking with the hands, you know?” Ward said. “And they would be flying across her face.”
While filming the 1989 baseball comedy that co-starred Charlie Sheen, Ward told Russo to keep her hands out of her own face.

The Big Bang Theory owes its immense popularity not only to the talented cast and the compelling storyline revolving around four geek friends that have to navigate through life using their gifted minds, but also to the impressive list of guest stars that ever appeared in there.
And though Sheldon Cooper, portrayed by Jim Parsons, could’ve seemed to be extremely calm while sharing the screen with the biggest stars, the actor himself was pretty much affected by these situations.
Throughout the whole run of 12 seasons, the show’s main cast got to work with the pop culture and science’s legendary figures like Stan Lee, Stephen Hawking, Charlie Sheen, Bob Newhart and many others — but one movie star in particular made Jim Parsons forget how to breathe normally for some time.
As he revealed, sharing the screen with Star Wars’ legendary actor James Earl Jones got him a weird feeling.

Prosecutors Play Recording Of Donald Trump And Michael Cohen Discussing Hush Money Payments — Update
Update: Jurors today heard a recording in which Donald Trump and his then-lawyer and “fixer,” Michael Cohen, discuss payments to Karen McDougal, the former Playboy model who claimed to have had an affair with The Apprentice host.
The recording was made by Cohen in September of 2016 — and first reported on by CNN in 2018. In it, Trump and Cohen discussed buying the rights to McDougal’s story.
“I need to open up a company for the transfer of all of that info regarding our friend David,” Cohen said, referring to David Pecker, then-ceo of American Media, the tabloid publisher that bought McDougal’s story for $150,000 with the intention of burying it.
When Cohen turned to the subject of “financing,” Trump asked, “What financing?”
“We’ll have to pay,” Cohen said. It wasn’t clear from the garbled audio at that point whether Trump agreed. Pecker, a prosecution witness last week, said...

The mother of all reunions is not over yet: Chuck Lorre said at Deadline’s Contenders TV on Sunday that Charlie Sheen will return for a cameo (or two?) in season 2 of Max’s Bookie.
The former star of Two and a Half Men showed up in season one as himself in the Sebastian Maniscalco comedy. The reunion almost upstaged the comedy itself, which follows bookie Danny (Maniscalco) as he and his partner, former NFL star Ray (Omar J. “I’ve always been an admirer of his work. His work is impeccable,” Lorre told the audience. “After all this time, his chops are undiminished. It was an extraordinary experience to put everything behind us and work together again.”

It's been more than 10 years since the world was subjected to the last "Scary Movie" sequel, but as is the case with any famous horror movie villain, it's practically impossible to keep this series down forever. And now Paramount Pictures plans to breathe new life into this particular franchise. The studio will be teaming up with Miramax to resurrect the "Scary Movie" franchise with a brand new installment. Production begins this fall, and the film will be in theaters in 2025.
Variety reports that producer Neal H. Moritz, who is best known for producing the "Fast and Furious" movies for Universal, will be producing this new iteration. Moritz was not directly associated with any of the previous five "Scary Movie" films, but interestingly, he did produce a couple of horror flicks that were parodied in those early versions, including "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Urban Legend." Oliver Stone is more than just a filmmaker. The man enlisted in the United States Army during the time of the Vietnam War and when he returned, he decided to tell the harrowing stories of war through the art of filmmaking. His 1986 film Platoon starring was one such film, but it could’ve ended up looking a bit different if actors like Keanu Reeves and Kevin Costner had agreed to be a part of it.
A still from Platoon (1986)
So why did they turn down a film that would go on to become critically acclaimed, do great at the box office, and receive not one, but four Academy Awards? Turns out, Danny Trejo actually might be wielding a machete soon, as the eponymous franchise is still on track to be a trilogy. During a recent discussion with Rob Zombie for Interview magazine, the almost-80-year-old actor Trejo incorrectly stated that “Machete” and “Machete Kills” director Robert Rodriguez “sold part” of the franchise, and therefore it’s unlikely another will be made.
“God, I guess Robert [Rodriguez] screwed up and sold part of ‘Machete,'” Trejo said, “to Russians or something. Everyone always asks, ‘When are you doing “Machete Kills in Space?”‘” Director Zombie added that he’d love to see “Machete Kills in Space,” saying, “I thought for sure it was going to happen. It’s so ridiculous.”
However, Rodriguez exclusively told IndieWire that Trejo’s comments are thankfully “incorrect” and a third “Machete” film may still slice up cinemas soon.
“I retain all the rights,” Rodriguez told IndieWire in an email.

While his acting prowess is undeniably great, there was a time when his active drug and alcohol addiction affected his life. Though he rose from his dark past to reach the heights he enjoys today, it became the very reason why his short trip to Japan became bitter.

Charlie Sheen is one of the most famous TV actors yet he seems to have fallen from the internet and the public’s grace over the last few years due to his many controversies. While he is slowly climbing back, apparently trying to change himself, his eldest daughter has been making a lot of headlines lately.

Marvel Poster Reveals How Charlie Sheen Will Look Like As Iron Man 13 Years Before Robert Downey Jr.
While most of the audience might remember Charlie Sheen popularly for playing the role of Charlie Harper in the iconic sitcom series Two and a Half Men, some still remember him back for his heyday as one of the most dynamic stars in the industry with a stellar reputation that one could bank on. Hello again, everybody. JoBlo.com here bidding you a big Wahoo welcome to Wtf Happened to This Movie?! That’s right, the Cleveland Indians are well on their way to clinching the Al East – which means the 1989 sports comedy Major League is well on its way to becoming a classic of the genre.
But how did Major League reach this status? How did it become one of the most quotable comedies of the decade? How did the cast pull off pitching, swinging and winning like a professional baseball team? How did it go on to represent Cleveland even though it wasn’t even shot there? And why did they have to make those sequels? Well, let’s go juuuuuust a bit outside to find out: Wtf Happened to this Movie?!
You might be surprised to know that Major League comes courtesy of the same guy who won an Oscar for writing The Sting.

This time last year, Jonathan Majors was a star on the rise.
A graduate of Yale's drama school, Majors had a handful of major credits to his name, including HBO's Lovecraft Country, the blockbuster Rocky spinoff Creed III, and the critically acclaimed indie film The Last Black Man In San Francisco.
It was an impressive resume for a star in his early thirties -- and the best was yet to come (at least from a monetary standpoint).
Majors made headlines when signed on to play Kang the Conqueror in a slate of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.
It was a deal that had the potential to take him from "well off" to "private island wealthy."
But in March of 2023, Majors' life was instantly turned upside down.

Pedro Pascal has had a terrific few years on the career front due to his acclaimed roles in The Mandalorian and The Last of Us. He has also been cast as Reed Richards a.k.a Mr. Fantastic in the upcoming MCU film Fantastic Four, which will be his official MCU debut. The actor has also been widely called the ‘Daddy’ of the Internet, which the actor believes is because of his penchant for playing loving and caring fathers.
However, Pascal is not the only Marvel star to have taken the moniker as Doctor Who star David Tennant claimed to be a ‘Daddy’ in a recent interview. The actor played the role of Kevin Thompson a.k.a Kilgrave in the Netflix-Marvel show Jessica Jones. He was widely regarded as one of the best villains of the MCU.

Charlie Sheen reunited with former boss Chuck Lorre on the set of Bookie… so does that mean a Two and a Half Men reboot is imminent? Jon Cryer has his doubts. “Oh gosh, oh gosh, yeah, I don’t know how that happens,” Cryer said about a possible reboot during Friday’s episode of The View. The actor acknowledged that it’s “wonderful” that Sheen is “doing a lot better” since the days of his 2011 feud with Lorre and subsequent exit from Two and a Half Men. (Sheen told Yahoo Entertainment in 2021 that his erratic behavior was “an unfortunate sequence of public and insane events” that he attributed to “drugs or the residual effects of drugs” and “an ocean of stress and a volcano of disdain.”) “[Sheen] and I have not spoken in a few years, but he’s doing a lot better, which obviously I’m happy about,” Cryer added on Friday.

Jon Cryer isn’t jumping at the idea of a Two and a Half Men reboot with Charlie Sheen.
During a recent appearance on The View, the actor was asked if he thought there could be an opportunity for a reboot of the hit CBS sitcom, which ran from 2003 to 2015, in the future.
“Oh gosh, oh gosh. Yeah, I don’t know how that happens,” Cryer admitted. “I mean the thing is, Charlie is doing a lot better now which is wonderful. He and I have not spoken in a few years but he’s doing a lot better, which obviously I am happy about. And obviously, Chuck Lorre, who produced Two and a Half Men… one of the hardest things for him when Two and a Half Men fell apart the way it did was he really thought he was friends with Charlie. And that he lost that was really hard for him.

Jon Cryer appeared on the Feb. 9 episode of “The View” and more or less shot down the idea of a “Two and a Half Men” reboot ever being made. Cryer starred on the CBS mega-hit sitcom for 12 seasons, eight of which he co-headlined with Charlie Sheen. Ashton Kutcher replaced Sheen for the final four seasons after Sheen exited the show amid controversy over comments he made about creator Chuck Lorre. Production on the show’s eighth season was cut short after Sheen checked into rehab for drugs.
“Oh gosh, oh gosh I don’t know how that happens,” Cryer said about a reboot. “Thing is, Charlie is doing a lot better now which is wonderful. Fans hoping for a Two and a Half Men reboot shall go wanting, at least when it comes to Jon Cryer getting back to business with Charlie Sheen. Cryer, who co-starred with Charlie Sheen and Angus T. Jones on the CBS sitcom, is aware of the demand for a reunion but feels Sheen may have poisoned the well. Speaking with The View, Jon Cryer confessed that he feels the ship has sailed for a Two and Half Men reboot, saying he would prefer to focus on his new sitcom, Extended Family.
Discussing the possibility of a Two and Half Men reboot, Cryer told Alyssa Farah Griffin of The View he’s aware of Sheen mending the once-broken bridge between himself and the sitcom’s producer Chuck Lorre. However, he’s uninterested in giving the Two and a Half Men formula another try. In so many words, Cryer said Sheen sabotaged...

Football Sunday will be movie night for CBS’ Ghosts, and they’re watching a very on-brand film.
In the above Super Bowl commercial for the hit comedy, livings Sam and Jay gather with their ghostly “roommates” for the 1990 classic Ghost, starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. In typical Ghosts fashion, there’s plenty of color commentary from the spirits about the movie’s plot, with the ad’s dialogue written by showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman, per our sister site Deadline.

Update, with video: Probably best not to hold your breath for any possible Two and a Half Men reboots. Jon Cryer doesn’t seem to be.
Cryer, who co-starred with Charlie Sheen on the famously troubled but immensely popular CBS 2003-2015 sitcom, visited The View today to promote his latest series, the NBC sitcom Extended Family. When the inevitable question about the possibility of a Two and a Half Men reboot series, Cryer was considerably less than enthusiastic.
When View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin pointed out that Sheen had recently rekindled his friendship with Men producer Chuck Lorre (the two are working on the Max comedy Bookie), she asked whether Cryer would be open to a Men reboot.
But Cryer suggested that Sheen sabotaged the show’s initial run, and that the prospect of working together again “for any length of time” is not a high priority for the Pretty in Pink actor.

Jon Cryer has proved himself a marketable quantity in the network sitcom game, a success most recently reflected in his starring role on the new NBC and Peacock show “Extended Family.”
Cryer, in an interview on the “Wtf With Marc Maron” podcast, recalled a key effort that helped cement that status — his part on the hit Charlie Sheen-starring sitcom “Two and a Half Men.”
Cryer said he remembered how Sheen’s role came together and how CBS played a big part.
“CBS wanted Charlie Sheen on the air so badly, and you could sense that,” Cryer said. “Based on, he had done ‘Spin City’ for a couple of seasons, and everybody was like, ‘Wow, he’s really good.’ Cause he took over for Michael J. Fox, and everybody said, ‘That is a bad idea.’ And then he turned out to be good on the show, with a totally different character.

In 2017, Kevin Nealon and his friend Matthew Modine were huffing and puffing their way up a steep grade in Temescal Canyon, a tranquil trail that’s a kind of unofficial backyard for many industry figures on L.A.’s Westside. Their breathless conversation amused Nealon, so he whipped out his iPhone and started recording. Among the oaks and sycamores, with birdsong in the background, Nealon asked Modine, who first rose to prominence in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket in 1987, which acting roles he had turned down in his career. “He goes, ‘Oh, man. Back to the Future, the Michael J. Fox part. Big, the Tom Hanks part. Wall Street, the Charlie Sheen part.’ I said, ‘You idiot.’ He laughed.” Nealon posted some clips from their conversation on his Twitter feed, and the videos started taking off.

Max is doubling down on Bookie.
The Warner Bros. Discovery-backed streamer has handed out a second-season pickup for the series from comedy kingpin Chuck Lorre.
From creators Nick Bakay and Lorre and starring and based on the comedy of Sebastian Maniscalco, Bookie bowed Nov. 30 and wrapped its first-season run Dec. 21.
“The collaboration between Chuck and Sebastian has proven to be a winning hand and we’re looking forward to continuing the story with this incredibly talented cast and crew,” said Amy Gravitt, exec vp programming and head of comedy at HBO and Max.
The series, like all Lorre vehicles, is produced via his longtime studio, Warner Bros. Television.
“There’s no doubt that Chuck and Nick’s Bookie won big this season as they took us on a hilarious ride into the underbelly of illegal sports gambling, featuring a cast led by another dynamic duo: Sebastian Maniscalco and Omar J. Dorsey.

No need to place your bets: Chuck Lorre’s “Bookie” is coming back. The comedy series, starring Sebastian Maniscalco and created by Lorre and Nick Bakay, has been renewed for a second season. The first season’s finale debuted on Max on Dec. 21.
“We couldn’t be more excited that Max listened to their gut, paid the juice, and let it ride on Season 2 of ‘Bookie,'” Lorre and Bakay said in a statement.
The dark comedy, produced by Warner Bros. TV, followed Maniscalco’s Danny, an L.A. bookie trying to keep his job amid the possible legalization of sports gambling in California. With the help of his best friend Ray (Omar J. Dorsey), sister Lorraine (Vanessa Ferlito), and reformed drug dealer Hector (Jorge Garcia), he must try to settle his clients’ debts.

The sports book is reopening after Max renewed Bookie, starring Sebastian Maniscalco, for a second season.
The renewal comes two weeks after the season one finale of the show, which comes from Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay.
The series, which premiered on November 30, follows bookie Danny (Maniscalco) as he and his partner, former NFL star Ray (Omar Dorsey), romp around Los Angeles trying to keep their illegal sports betting operation in play.
Season 2 presumably will show whether Danny [Spoiler Alert] can win back the affections of his wife Sandra, played by Andrea Anders, after his Super Bowl win seems to have torn them apart, as well as Ray dealing with the fallout of his mother’s wedding, which saw the groom seemingly die at the altar.
Produced by Warner Bros. Television, Bookie also stars Vanessa Ferlito as Danny’s side-hustling sister Lorraine and Jorge Garcia as reluctantly reformed drug dealer turned soccer...

Charlie Sheen left Two and a Half Men in 2011 after eight seasons due to a public dispute with the show’s co-creator, Chuck Lorre. This dispute involved Sheen making derogatory comments about Lorre, which eventually led to Sheen’s dismissal from the show. His departure was also influenced by his personal struggles and erratic behavior during that period, which garnered significant media attention. After Sheen, Ashton Kutcher joined the show as a tech-billionaire Walden Schmidt and while it felt a bit odd at first, Kutcher eventually blended just right in. The show had initially started as a sitcom featuring a rich...
