Ever since Roberts joined Lancôme as the brand ambassador, the French luxury cosmetics house has been a cult favorite of many women. She was originally paid $20 million for her deal with the L’Oréal-owned company, but her payment was upped when the company sealed a five-year deal with the Pretty Woman actress.

Director Sean Baker and his Anora star Mikey Madison have spoken about the “collaborative” process of portraying sex workers in a film that he acknowledged hearkens back to the captivating love story in Pretty Woman.
Baker spoke with his cast at Cannes’ press conference for the film, which follows Anora (Madison), a young sex worker from Brooklyn, who gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch (Mark Eydelshteyn). But the fairytale is threatened when her fiancé’s parents set out to get the marriage annulled.
“Mikey had so much to do with the development of Anora,” Baker said as he lauded his lead actress. “I wrote the script for Mikey. We had a meeting and asked if she was interested, I said: ‘Okay, I’m going to write you a script and come back in three months.’ It took a year.

Just in case you weren’t sure where Jimmy Kimmel stood in the upcoming presidential election, he’s making it explicit, taking part in an upcoming fundraiser that will see him in conversation with President Biden and Former President Obama.
The event, which is scheduled to take place June 15th in Los Angeles, comes on the heels of a New York event hosted by Kimmel’s late-night competitor Stephen Colbert. That event, which saw Colbert interview Biden, Obama and Bill Clinton at Radio City Music Hall, raised a record-setting $26 million for Biden’s reelection campaign.
A venue hasn’t yet been announced for Kimmel’s event, but it’s set to include at least two other Hollywood heavy hitters in George Clooney and Julia Roberts, who are being billed as “special guests.”

At long last, Kathryn Bigelow is returning to filmmaking. After 2017’s Detroit, she was developing the David Koepp-scripted thriller Aurora for Netflix but has now moved on to another project for the company. The untitled thriller will unfold in real-time at the White House as a missile attack threatens the United States. THR reports former NBC News president Noah Oppenheim, who also wrote Jackie, scripted the project based on Bigelow’s idea. No additional details were revealed but with Netflix now greenlighting the project, here’s hoping it kicks off before the end of the year.

Whilst we're still here trying to catch our breath and wolf down a post-match banana after Challengers, director Luca Guadagnino has already left the court to get the ball rolling on his next cinematic outing. And having already signed up Julia Roberts for upcoming thriller After The Hunt, the Italian auteur behind Bones And All and Call Me By Your Name seems to have tracked down his next leading man: Andrew Garfield.
As first reported by Deadline, the Spider-Man: No Way Home and Tick, Tick... Boom! is currently in negotations to star alongside Roberts in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios production, slated for theatrical release in 2025. Coming from first-time screenwriter Nora Garrett, the film, described as an "intense dramatic thriller", centres around a college professor (Roberts) who finds both her professional and private life thrown into turmoil when a star pupil levels a scandalous accusation against one of her colleagues.

His tennis comedy/love triangle film “Challengers,” starring Zendaya, has already grossed $68 million worldwide—not bad for a drama without a major I.P. attached to it— and his next film, “Queer,” an adaptation of the William S. Burroughs novel starring Daniel Craig, is said to be done and will probably debut during the fall film festival circuit later this year.

Don’t be surprised if you see Demi Moore on the Croisette — like, a lot. The veteran actress is set to make a mark at the Cannes Film Festival this year with a film in competition and a packed schedule to match.
Moore stars in filmmaker Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance opposite Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid. Little is known about Fargeat’s sophomore feature — she debuted with 2017’s stylish Revenge — other than that it’s being referred to as a feminist take on body horror.
Cannes has given The Substance a late-night slot for its world premiere on Sunday, May 19, confirming a busy weekend for Moore. As previously announced, the actress will also take on the role of godmother for luxury jewelry house Chopard’s Trophée Chopard gala ceremony. Following Challengers, Luca Guadagnino will next direct After The Hunt, adding Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield to the cast.
Luca Guadagnino is flying high at the moment with the release of Challengers, the highly-anticipated love triangle tennis drama that has been scoring excellent reviews.
Guadagnino also has Queer on the way later this year too. That sounds equally promising given that Guadagnino is directing Daniel Craig in an adaptation of the William Burroughs book of the same name. That one shot last year and is set to release sometime this year (we think).
Looking beyond that, Guagagnino has a packed slate (more on that below) but when news broke last month that the director would be working with Julia Roberts on a project for Amazon, we suspected it might get fast-tracked and that seems to be the case.

The event is being planned for June 15 in downtown Los Angeles, according to a source familiar with the plans. The loudest voice in Hollywood last week belonged to Haim Saban. “Bad . . . Bad . . . bad decision, on all levels,” he roared, in an email to President Joseph Biden, sent via White House aides, denouncing the Administration’s announced plan to withhold bombs and artillery shells from Israel if it proceeds against Hamas in the population centers of Rafah.
About the policy itself, opinions vary (to put it mildly). Congressional representative Ilhan Omar happily declared that pro-Palestinian protests had worked. Former Biden spokesperson Jen Psaki said Biden should have used his “leverage” sooner. But by week’s end, Presidential surrogates, feeling heat from critics, were looking for semantic wiggle room; Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said Biden was solid behind Israel, but had been guilty of ‘imprecision.’

George Clooney has been in the movie business for over a few years. Through his lengthy career, he has experienced the entire spectrum of success. He has had some massive box-office hits and has been a part of high-profile bombs. The most well-known blunder of his career has to be his 1997 film, Batman and Robin.
George Clooney as Batman
There were many reasons why the movie failed. Its inability to take on a serious tone, the joke-like appearances of beloved characters, and its writing, were just a few reasons why the movie was completely shredded by critics. It is safe to assume that after this very public failure, Clooney needed a break and needed to work on a good film.
That was when Steven Soderbergh’s Out of Sight entered the picture. It would seem that the atmosphere this movie provided was exactly what Clooney needed after the DC film’s failure.

With great reviews, tons of publicity, and two more-popular-than-ever movie stars in the leads, The Fall Guy should have kicked the summer 2024 box office off in high style. Indeed, Hollywood was expecting a $40 million opening (we expected a more modest $35 million). Still, according to Deadline’s early numbers, The Fall Guy looks like it won’t even crack the $30 million mark. This is a bad opening for a mega-budget action movie and seems to be further evidence that movie stars – as we used to know them – don’t exist anymore.
Think about it. Is there any actor or actress who can guarantee a movie “opens”? It used to be that people like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Julia Roberts, Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, and a bunch of others were considered “bankable” in that having them in your film was basically “money in the bank.” There’s not really anyone like that left anymore,...

Back in 1981, Francis Ford Coppola risked everything with his musical One from the Heart to challenge the studios’ ways and revolutionize cinema. Unfortunately, it ended up being a box office disaster, which pushed him into a decade of financial turmoil. Moreover, its failure also led to Megalopolis, whose script he conceived around the same time period, being put on ice.
Since then, the legendary filmmaker has been working tirelessly to get his dream project greenlit, but the corporate heads at studios never gave it the get-go following its experimental nature. Fast forward to 2019, reports revealed that Coppola was self-financing the $120 million film and the teaser released for the sci-fi drama has left fans in awe, which rivals the likes of Interstellar and Dune.

Actor Julia Roberts has starred in a variety of romance films over the years. Some of her most popular features were a part of the genre. But eventually, Roberts reached a certain age where she felt romance couldn’t be a thing for her.

It’s hard not to think about romantic comedies when Roberts comes to mind. Movies like Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride had been Roberts’ bread and butter for years. But as she’d gotten older, Roberts felt that her time doing romcoms was ending. As she entered her 40s, she didn’t think the scenarios often presented in romcom movies would be believable for someone her age.

“Challengers” netted a $6.2 million opening day from 3,477 North American theaters, a figure that includes $1.9 million from preview screenings. Amazon MGM Studios’ love-triangle drama is set to match industry projections for a $15 million debut. The tennis film also gets extra revenue from tickets for premium large-format auditoriums, including some Imax screens.
The Zendaya starrer will easily launch above the competition to claim the top spot on domestic charts — not small potatoes for an original, R-rated drama in the age of studio IP addiction. But “Challengers” does carry a $55 million production budget, so it’ll have to keep rallying into the summer months to score a profit in theaters. Reviews have been stellar, while early ticket buyers lean positive with audience survey firm Cinema Score tallying a “B+” grade. Amazon MGM has good buzz on its side for the weeks ahead.

A curious thing happened when the first trailer for “Challengers” came out: People started getting really, really weird online about the suggestion that the three main characters — played by Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor — have a threesome. It prompted memes and hand-wringing alike, as if this was the first time any actor in film history had ever pretended to engage in sex onscreen — never mind that the film ultimately doesn’t have an actual sex scene at all, instead withholding from the audience in order to build up the lingering sexual tension that eats away at all sides of its love triangle. The fervor around the possibility of sex in “Challengers” affirmed something that has been obvious for years now: Cinema, especially American cinema, is starved for films that sizzle with genuine sensuality.

Anne Hathaway isn’t against the idea of a streaming-only release, but she still can recognize box office potential when she sees it.
The Oscar winner stars in and produces “The Idea of You,” which will have a streaming only release on Prime Video on May 2. Hathaway told Variety that while she is still excited that the romantic drama will reach a wide audience on the platform, she knows that the film would fulfill a missing target in theaters.
“I’ve never had a movie this size be released [exclusively] on streaming, so I’m not really in a place to answer that question,” Hathaway said when asked about her take on whether or not streaming only was beneficial to this feature. “Part of me is excited that such a wide audience is going to have instant access to it. Despite their rom com-heavy résumés, Anne Hathaway and actor-turned-director Michael Showalter had never met prior to collaborating on the May-December love story “The Idea of You,” which bows May 2 on Amazon Prime Video. Unless you count that one time at Beverly Hills’ Gucci Osteria, which in 2022 was the site of a dinner party to celebrate Jessica Chastain’s Oscar nomination for the Showalter-directed film “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”
“I wanted to talk to Anne, but I was too embarrassed,” Showalter recalls of the soiree. “The path of least resistance is to just not talk to anybody.” Adds Hathaway with a chuckle: “I couldn’t figure out how to breach my wall of shyness.”
Months later, Hathaway conquered her timidity when she recruited Showalter to co-write and direct “The Idea of You,” in which the star of “The Devil Wears Prada” and “The Princess Diaries” portrays a 40-year-old single mother...

Among the new productions on Broadway this spring is a revival of the classic musical “Cabaret,” starring Eddie Redmayne. In 2014 he starred as Stephen Hawking in director James Marsh‘s biopic “The Theory of Everything.” His performance won him an Oscar for Best Actor (making him the eighth youngest winner in that category at age 33), overcoming stiff competition from Michael Keaton, the star of the Best Picture winner of that year, “Birdman.” How did Redmayne pull through? Here are five reasons.
1. The industry felt he came into his own
Prior to “The Theory of Everything,” Redmayne was a rising star. In 2010 he won a Tony for his Broadway debut starring opposite Alfred Molina in John Logan‘s play “Red.” He went on to get more prominent film roles where critics, audiences and the industry started to take notice of him. Among them were Simon Curtis‘s 2011 Oscar-nominated biopic “My Week with Marilyn...

After the end of strikes, agents, managers and producers quickly moved in to assemble high-profile packages to take out in what was expected to be a frothy marketplace following six months of inactivity. But, while there have been a few bidding wars and big sales with a couple of others pending, the level of demand has not been what many anticipated. The biggest casualty of the tight market — packages with A-list stars attached.
“This has been such a head-scratcher,” one agent said about the situation. Agencies are keeping record of all the star packages that went out and failed to draw interest over the past few months despite the level of talent that has included Oscar and Emmy winners and nominees in front or behind the camera, stars of blockbuster movies and iconic TV series and, in a couple of instances, famous IP. The total now exceeds 20.

Dermot Mulroney didn’t have a Bff in any casting departments after starring in 1997 rom-com “My Best Friend’s Wedding.”
Mulroney shared with the New York Times that despite starring in the hit film alongside Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz, he “probably didn’t work for a year” after its release. “My Best Friend’s Wedding” grossed almost $300 million at the global box office against its $35 million budget, and while Mulroney went on to continue his rom-com reign with “The Wedding Date” and more, there was not exactly a slew of immediately available roles with Dermot’s name on them.

Tom Cruise and Robert Pattinson are two of the most iconic actors in Hollywood, with one climbing the ladder like there’s no tomorrow and the other ruling over it. While the two of them have never shared the big screen together, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they haven’t met either. Out of the many movies that both of them have individually done, it was a small skit that brought them together.

The Godfather series directed by Francis Ford Coppola is still regarded as one of the iconic trilogies of Hollywood. While the first two films were runaway blockbusters, the 3rd film did not fare as well at the box office and also received lukewarm responses from critics. Nevertheless, the franchise became a cult classic thanks to memorable performances from Al Pacino, Marlon Brando, and others.

While the actors were defining factors in the success of the films, Coppola’s decision to include his daughter Sofia Coppola in The Godfather 3 ironically proved to be a mistake. Having replaced Winona Ryder for the role, the filmmaker received a lot of criticism for her performance, but did not get disheartened as she was fully aware that her future did not lie in acting.

Dominic West and Lily James made headlines back in 2020 for their Pda scandal during his marriage with aristocrat, Catherine FitzGerald. While their affair rumors caught extreme media attention, the actor makes a rare statement, claiming that the scandal helped him in portraying the now United Kingdom King, Charles III in The Crown show.

The historical drama show consists of six seasons, which primarily focus on the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The year 1990 was a pretty decent time for a trip to the movies, especially if you’re a self confessed gore-hound, like yours truly. Exclusive: Industry star Myha’la has joined Lily James in 20th Century’s upcoming movie inspired by the story of Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble and co-founder of Tinder.
We understand filming is due to get underway in LA early next month.
20th Century Studios and Ethea Entertainment, the production company formed by Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay, are behind the project, which has James in the lead role.
After co-founding Tinder, Wolfe Herd left the dating app in 2014. She went on to launch competitor Bumble that same year. In 2021, the company went public and she officially became one of the youngest self-made billionaires at age 31. She would step down as CEO in 2023 but by then the app had become a huge success with several divisions that are still thriving today.
Plot details are still relatively under wraps as the film is an inspiration and not based on Wolfe...
