Roger Corman, the pioneering producer and director, known affectionately as “the king of B movies,” passed away on May 9 at his home in Santa Monica, California. Corman had as much influence over modern Hollywood as Steven Spielberg or Martin Scorsese. And for good reason: Without him there likely wouldn’t even have been a Spielberg or Scorsese.
This maker of hundreds of low-budget horror, sci-fi, and exploitation films is to this day remembered by many, and rather unfairly, as a B-movie hack, but Corman’s aesthetic sensibilities have come to dominate the franchises we now call tent poles, and his protégés number among the most influential people in cinema. And he enjoyed every minute of it.
Corman came off as very humble, resembling no one so much as Mr. Rogers. He laughed at himself and his experiences frequently. Many of the movies that he made were ridiculous but they were knowingly so.

George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones is known for many things. Be it the book or the television series, the story is full of excellently written characters and a world the viewer could get lost in. Despite all of its assets, the series is not for all audiences. Having a reputation for mature themes, it has a lot of nudity and violence; something it has been criticized for time and time again.
Ser Barristan Selmy’s death in HBO’s Game of Thrones
Martin has spoken on this more than a few times, voicing his disregard for such reproval and even defending it. Interestingly enough, he seems to have a theory as to why the violence in his series impacts audiences more, and the example ties in with George Lucas’s Star Wars franchise.

The next live-action Disney+ Star Wars series, The Acolyte, is set to premiere on June 5, and Lucasfilm has now released two new teasers, one of which might confirm (or at least hint at) a recent rumor that's been doing the rounds.
Possible spoilers follow.
The first promo once again sees Master Sol vow to track down his wayward apprentice, Mae, who has seemingly fallen to the Dark Side and become the titular acolyte (which she is referred to as for the first time here). We then see Mae confronted at the edge of a snowy cliff, where she professes her innocence: "I didn't do it... believe me!"
If she is being sincere here, it might just confirm a persistent rumor that actress Amandla Stenberg will actually play a dual role as twins, which means Mae could have an evil sister out there taking down Jedi and framing her sibling for the murders.

Darth Vader Wasn’t the Only Star Wars Character That Was Inspired by One of the Best Marvel Villains
Apart from real-life events and people, it is no secret that the huge world of fictional characters and stories often ends up being the inspiration behind other fictional worlds and characters. Whether the creators acknowledge it or not, several similarities can be found among different fictional characters from different fantasy worlds.
While the similarities do not diminish the fame and love for the characters, the similarities, whether intentional or not, establish a special connection between them.

And Marvel supervillain Doctor Doom seems to be a popular inspiration as far as George Lucas’ Star Wars mythos is concerned. Apart from being the alleged inspiration behind the iconic Darth Vader, there is another Star Wars character that seems like a rip-off of Doom.

The original Star Wars trilogy was loved by one and all with George Lucas’ innovative creation, pushing boundaries in storytelling. The introduction of a whole new world filled with fantastical elements, rich characters, and interesting lore captivated audiences in the 70s and 80s. "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" lives up to its title by placing a lot of focus on the clone troopers themselves. Some of the characters, like Commander Cody and Commander Bly, were inherited from the "Star Wars" prequel films. The show used the idea that clones had nicknames (instead of only serial numbers) and ran with it, creating many other clones -- including Captain Rex -- with custom names and armor to convey individuality.
One of the more striking clone looks is Commander Doom, who appears only briefly in the "Clone Wars" season 6 premiere "The Unknown." That name isn't an accident; the "Star Wars" website confirms that the creators named Doom after Marvel Comics villain Doctor Victor Von Doom. While Commander Doom gets too little screen time to see if he has the ego of his namesake, the creators used Doctor Doom's design to color his armor.

When “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace” debuted on May 19, 1999, few movies before (or since) were greeted with more fevered anticipation. Not only was the movie the first new “Star Wars” movie in a generation, but it was touted as the first of a prequel trilogy charting the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi Knight fated to turn to the dark side as Darth Vader.
Despite the breathless build up, by the end of that summer, the near-universal consensus was that “The Phantom Menace” was, at best, a colossal disappointment and, at worst, a calamitous embarrassment. Some blamed the decision by George Lucas — directing for the first time since 1977’s “A New Hope” — to start the story with a precocious 9-year-old Anakin (Jake Lloyd). Others railed against the slapstick antics and pidgin English of Jar Jar Binks (Ahmed Best), hyped as the first-ever CG main character in a live-action movie.

"Alien" star Sigourney Weaver is headed back to space, but this time, instead of fighting off aliens, she could be befriending them. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Weaver is in talks to take on a role in "The Mandalorian & Grogu," the upcoming "Star Wars" film that will be directed by Jon Favreau.
While "Star Wars" has been pretty prolific on the small screen in recent years, the saga created by George Lucas hasn't actually released a new feature film since 2019's "The Rise of Skywalker." "The Mandalorian & Grogu" was officially announced in January of this year, after years of media focus spent on other potential Lucasfilm works-in-progress, including projects from Taika Waititi and Patty Jenkins. Most of those projects seem to still be in the works according to recent reports, but "The Mandalorian & Grogu" is set to head into production first with a summer shoot scheduled,...

In a galaxy far, far away, no one can hear you scream…Sigourney Weaver — who is certainly no stranger to sci-fi — is reportedly in talks to join the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu, set to be the first new Star Wars film in seven years by the time it arrives in 2026.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Sigourney Weaver is possibly near a deal to become part of the Star Wars Saga with The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is huge and exciting news for fans of both. And considering her history in the sci-fi and fantasy genre – Alien franchise, Ghostbusters, Galaxy Quest, Avatar, etc. – she would absolutely be a natural addition.

Since selling Lucasfilm to Disney for a massive $4 billion, George Lucas has left the House of Mouse to do what it will with Star Wars. Sure, he's visited the set of The Mandalorian and offered a few thoughts on the sequels, but he hasn't been creatively involved.
Disney has returned to many of his greatest creations in recent years, whether it's with a "Baby Yoda," The Clone Wars' Ahsoka Tano, or by filling in the gaps between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope by enlisting Ewan McGregor for Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi.
During an interview with the Full of Sith podcast (via SFFGazette.com), Pablo Hidalgo - a Lucasfilm executive tasked with maintaining the canon of the franchise - confirmed that Lucas was a big fan of the latter series.

George Lucas Gives Obi-Wan Kenobi Series His Seal of Approval - Main Image
George Lucas may have handed the reins of Star Wars to Disney, but the creator of one of the biggest science-fiction franchises in existence has apparently still been keeping up with what's happening in a galaxy far, far away.
In fact, the Lucasfilm founder is a huge fan of a recent Star Wars series that didn't exactly achieve the same level of success as some of Disney's streaming offerings like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered if any film could capture the awe-inspiring vastness of the cosmos? Many directors have soared through the stars in science fiction, but one visionary’s belief is as enduring as the galaxy itself. George Lucas, the renowned creator of the epic Star Wars, has a deep appreciation for a cinematic masterpiece that even his own galactic saga cannot match: Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Sylvester Stallone has recut Rocky 6, aka Rocky Balboa, and we’ll get to see the new cut of the movie in the summer. More here.
Following his tinkering with the iconic Rocky IV, Sylvester Stallone admitted that he was looking at putting together alternate cuts of some of his other Rocky movies. He’s been true to his word too, with franchise revival Rocky Balboa next in line for the treatment.
It became known that the original cut of the movie went well past the two hour mark. MGM was believed to be instrumental in Stallone cutting it back to just over 100 minutes, and inevitably, this left a lot on the cutting room floor. Still, the film was very well received, and had it not taken off in the way that it did, we probably wouldn’t have the Creed franchise now.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace recently returned to theaters to celebrate its 25th anniversary, and while it was a real treat to see the first prequel movie on the big screen once again, some fans have brought up how different the film looks from its original release.
Of course, Star Wars fans are accustomed to the many changes the movies have undergone over the decades, and The Phantom Menace has not escaped unscathed. Throughout its history on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD, we’ve seen the addition of new scenes, altered dialogue, and the replacement of puppet Yoda with a CG version, but perhaps the most divisive change actually affects the entire movie — a very liberal application of Dnr (digital noise reduction).

The Star Wars prequel trilogy revolutionized the film industry with its introduction of more CGI visual effects and digital photography. The second episode of the trilogy Episode II – Attack of the Clones was one of the first films to be completely shot digitally as opposed to film, leading Hollywood into the digital age of filmmaking.
The films starred Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Ewan McGregor, and Natalie Portman in lead roles. The film was one of Portman’s earliest roles where she played the role of Padmé Amidala. She reprised the role in all three films and reportedly had a tough time acting for the blue and green screens present on set.

George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise has its own intricate power system that relies on the otherworldly source of power known as the Force. Over the years, several Force powers have been used by different characters. However, the appearance of deceased members of the Jedi order showing up as Force Ghosts remains extremely popular.
Ewan McGregor reprised his Star Wars role in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series
Despite Lucas setting up one rule for the appearance of Force Ghosts, Obi-Wan Kenobi, starring Ewan McGregor as the iconic Jedi knight, broke it for some fan service. Genndy Tartakovsky’s Star Wars: Clone Wars was the first time that George Lucas trusted someone with his precious IP for another on-screen project. It was also one of those rare instances at the time when a live-action project received an animated spinoff. Tartakovsky’s little Cartoon Network project worked out pretty well for Lucas & Co. who suffered a setback from the mixed receptions for their prequel trilogy.
Genndy Tartakovsky’s Star Wars: Clone Wars
The Clone Wars was mentioned once in the first Star Wars film and took place between the events of the prequel trilogy films, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Interestingly, Tartakovsky released the animated series in between these two films.

There are a lot of great moments in Steven Spielberg's 1981 action-adventure film "Raiders of the Lost Ark," but nothing quite comes close to the film's intense climax. After following archaeologist Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) and feisty bar owner Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) on their journey to try and stop the Nazis from stealing a biblical artifact, said Nazis actually manage to open the artifact — the Ark of the Covenant, the holy box that once held the Tablets of the Law, which contained the ten commandments passed down to Moses by God in the old testament. They open the box to try and get a peek at what's inside, only to have their Nazi faces melted right off like a bunch of action figures hit with a blowtorch. It's one of the most satisfying moments in cinema history, but according to Spielberg, it was also pretty much done by the seat of his pants.

George Lucas has a filmography that will make any filmmaker envious. It includes Star Wars and Indiana Jones, two of the most popular franchises of all time along with underrated gems such as American Graffiti. However, despite his globally acclaimed filmography, Lucas regrets not making a project similar to Ewan McGregor’s best war-drama film.

During an interview, Lucas spoke about how some of his other passion projects had to often be sidelined because of his long-term commitment to the Star Wars franchise. At the same time, the filmmaker named one film starring Ewan McGregor, as something he would have liked to make himself. Darth Maul is one of the most fearsome and interesting villains to be introduced in George Lucas’ epic space-opera saga Star Wars. Maul was first introduced as a Sith apprentice of Darth Sidious in The Phantom Menace. However, the character has since found new life in spin-off media where his story has been fleshed out.

As a result, many fans will be surprised to learn that some of the earlier concepts and designs for the character were entirely different from the final version. Moreover, Lucas’ initial brief to his concept designer resulted in a freighting creation that the filmmaker deemed too scary to use. Prior to his work on "Star Wars" in 1977, actor and bodybuilder David Prowse had made a career playing goons, creatures, and bodyguards in high-profile movies. Prowse played Frankenstien's monster in the Hammer film "The Horror of Frankenstein," a role he had already played briefly in the 1967 version of "Casino Royale." He played a comedic torturer in "Carry On, Henry," the 21st "Carry On" movie. Most visibly, Prowse played the muscular bodyguard for the injured old Frank (Patrick Magee) in Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange." He was the one who got to cradle Malcolm McDowell like a baby. This was easy for Prowse, who stood six-foot-six.
The actor also played Darth Vader "Star Wars," "The Star Wars Holiday Special," "The Empire Strikes Back," and "Return of the Jedi" ... but only in the scenes wherein Darth Vader wore a mask. In "Jedi," when Vader finally revealed his face, Prowse was replaced by actor Sebastian Shaw.

Pretty much every single movie that George Lucas helmed from his Star Wars lore has been received with the utmost critical commendation from fans and critics worldwide. Needless to say, the mastermind has been bold with his works to the core, without hesitating to deliver the perfect blow to the viewers. Perhaps this was exactly why he was skeptical about one film that opted otherwise.

But what’s surprising is that this one particular film was one that actually went on to set the records for being the highest-grossing movie of all time from the film franchise: The Force Awakens from 2015. And making everything even more complex was Lucas, who initially delivered thoroughly harsh criticism of the movie before landing his final verdict claiming that fans would actually ‘love it.’

The Star Wars film series is still expanding and has grown in recognition over the years. Innumerable actors have contributed to the property as the galaxy far, far away continues to grow through projects for both small and large screens. Some of them even lose track of how they came to be cast in the first place. Take Keira Knightley, for example.
Known for her acclaimed performances in Pride and Prejudice and The Imitation Game, the actress, 39, also had a role in the Star Wars film franchise that was a long-kept secret.

Even for a die-hard Star Wars fan like Ewan McGregor, the weight of carrying the franchise and one of its leading IPs can get a bit too much for his temperament. The legendary Jedi Master has had his fair share of troubles and hardships to overcome until his protégé Anakin Skywalker transformed into Darth Vader. A soul-crushing experience such as that one equated to a betrayal of everything he valued and reflected an utter failure on his part to save his friend from the Dark Side of the Force.

George Lucas created the Star Wars franchise back in 1977, which primarily revolves around the conflict between the light and dark side of the Force. In the first film, Lucas introduced several fascinating sci-fi elements that have become ingrained in modern pop culture and remain relevant even today.
The Lightsaber has been an iconic element of George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise.
One of these elements is the iconic Jedi weapon known as the Lightsaber. However, Lucas initially had an entirely different name in mind for the weapon. Moreover, fans would certainly have been unhappy with the name and it is hard to think the Lightsaber would have achieved the same level of popularity with the original name. Here is what George Lucas originally wanted to call Lightsabers.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is an upcoming adventure television series set in the universe created by George Lucas. The Star Wars saga is pretty perfect just the way it is, and perhaps no die-hard fan would argue otherwise. But what if things didn’t end the way they did? What if some characters faced wildly different ends than what was originally penned down for them, like Anakin Skywalker, for instance? Well, one game on the lore seems to set that perfect alternate ending for Darth Vader.

With six decades of acting under his belt, Harrison Ford has made works that have run the gamut of critical responses. On Rotten Tomatoes, his most critically acclaimed role is listed as the "Apocalypse Now" making-of documentary "Hearts of Darkness," a film in which he ironically doesn't actually speak or appear but which nonetheless earned universal acclaim from the review-tabulating site. His lowest-rated film? An already-forgotten 2013 thriller called "Paranoia," which just 7% of critics included on the aggregation site wrote positively about.

Star Wars has been, and still is, a massive part of this particular writer’s life. Unfortunately, I wasn’t around to catch A New Hope or The Empire Strikes Back in cinemas when they were first released, but I did manage to sneak in to see those cuddly Ewoks lay waste to the Empire in Return of the Jedi back in 1983. George Lucas is unarguably one of the best masters of science fiction storytelling, and the Star Wars saga only proves just how immensely talented he is. Not only has he created jaw-dropping storylines for this universe, but he has also introduced some of the most out-of-the-world characters. This also includes getting influenced by other universes and basing his own characters on them.

Surprisingly enough, Cad Bane, who is regarded as one of the most dangerous bounty hunters in this sci-fi universe, was created after Lucas was inspired by a character from Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy. But what’s iconic is that this particular bounty hunter is actually based on Lee Van Cleef’s Angel Eyes, the enigmatic character from the Clint Eastwood-starrer trilogy.

As it so seems: Yes. Yes, he did.

The mastermind behind the massively fan-favorite Star Wars universe, George Lucas, never ceases to bring about the most epic of ideas to life. Be it ideas to include in his superhit lore or ideas to protect the same, he has most certainly been one of the most imaginative people to have ever walked on this planet. In fact, he even devised a plan to make his saga leak-proof!

While the rest of the franchises suffer brutally because of all the leaks — even the super-secretive Marvel Cinematic Universe, thanks to actors like Tom Holland — Lucas devised a leak-proof plan for the biggest spoiler in The Empire Strikes Back. And, surprisingly enough, this worked so terrifically that even the internet couldn’t spoil this mystery!
