It’s been a largely unkind summer for movies based on the box office, but June could change that thanks to everything from big-name sequels and an ambitious western from Kevin Costner. Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone counts among the rare few projects in Hollywood that have managed to not only garner love and respect among fans and critics but also shock and awe among industry experts for its sheer scale of storytelling. It comes as no surprise then that the ending of such a greatly beloved series would be met with a little resistance, even from its own cast members.
Yellowstone [Credit: Paramount Network]Having starred in Yellowstone since the very first season, the leading stars portraying the Dutton family have been the ones to be impacted the most. Their story which was supposed to stretch for no less than 7 seasons has been abruptly cut short and with the series already in its final leg, emotion cuts particularly deep knowing they have to forever leave behind the characters they nurtured to grow for the past 7 years.

From leading the most acclaimed Star Wars release, The Empire Strikes Back to starring in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Blade Runner, the ’80s saw Harrison Ford at his peak. Moreover, apart from taking leading roles in major sci-fi and fantasy releases, he also made sure to star in several acclaimed dramas, including Witness, which earned him an Oscar nod for Best Actor.
But while Ford took on many iconic gigs, especially in the 80s, the actor also chose to turn down a plethora of them, including Brian De Palma’s The Untouchables.

For decades, Kevin Costner was an icon of the big screen – leading seismic cinematic feats like The Untouchables, Dances With Wolves, JFK, and Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. More recently, though, he became a leading force in the 21st century small-screen landscape as the figurehead of the Yellowstone empire. But make no mistake: his allegiance is to cinema. And he’s quite literally putting his money where his mouth is, conjuring up a multi-part Western epic on the big screen. Get ready for Horizon: An American Saga, whose first two three-hour chapters hit the big screen this summer, soon to be followed by more instalments, and for which Costner contributed roughly $58 million of his own cash.
It is an absolutely gigantic gambit. But for Costner, going all-in on the power of cinema was part of the point – hence why he turned down the idea to make Horizon a streaming series.

Could you imagine that Jaws, the iconic thriller helmed by Steven Spielberg, topped $100 million in theater rentals before grossing over $400 million at the box office? Not just that, the 1975 flick clinched three Academy Awards, setting a precedent for the summer releases we eagerly anticipate each year.
But it was a mess, too. Behind this monumental masterpiece was a young Spielberg, steering the project, which starred Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss. There is no doubt that Spielberg’s steadfast vision made the movie possible—one that still thrills audiences to this day.

Renowned for his brilliant storytelling and cinematic prowess, filmmaker Steven Spielberg has encountered his fair share of critiques and box office jitters throughout his illustrious career. However, when it came to the 2022 film, The Fabelmans, he was anxious not for anticipated reviews or ticket sales, but due to the impending reaction of his family members.

Despite the dense filmography of Taylor Sheridan involving Western ranches and criminal turf wars, his magnetic writing makes every story feel as grand and cinematic as it can get. With Yellowstone, the Dutton family tale is a specular and sprawling one filled with Machiavellian schemes and outright battles. Their story, although volatile, is also an addictive one that has quickly become beloved by millions of fans around the globe.

Kevin Costner has been a very committed actor who continues to give his all with every film he does. His breakout role in The Untouchables led him to many acclaimed performances in films like Field of Dreams, Bull Durham, and A Perfect World among others. He has also established himself as a great filmmaker directing two impressive westerns Dances With Wolves and Open Range.

Costner has been dreaming about his passion project Horizon: An American Saga since the 90s, envisioning it as a four-film saga. Costner has already shot the first two films and recently premiered the first film at Cannes. Unfortunately, it received mediocre reviews which put into question the fate of the remaining three films, in addition to the actor/director finding problems filming parts 3 and 4.
Did Kevin Costner Make a Mistake By Making Horizon a Four-Film Epic?...

While his scripts and movies perfectly speak for just how brilliant he is, Taylor Sheridan’s excellence doesn’t stop there.
Though his ingeniously developed storylines and character arcs are one thing, what further sets him apart from nearly all the other mastermind legendary filmmakers and showrunners in Hollywood’s entire entertainment industry are his immaculate convincing skills.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to forge unbreakable loyalty on the sweeping landscapes of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch? The answer lies within a searing moment of commitment forever etched into the skin of the ranch’s most dedicated wranglers: the ‘Y’ brand. Yellowstone’s branding campaign involves pressing a real branding iron, shaped like the Dutton Ranch logo, into the skin of a dedicated ranch hand by heating it over a flame.
This momentous occasion serves as a sharp reminder of just how difficult life can be on the Yellowstone Ranch. Can you imagine what the Duttons do to their enemies if that is how they handle their friends?

But in one particular episode, the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, went above and beyond by showing the viewers how Jimmy Hurdstram—portrayed by the exceptional Jefferson White—came to be known.

Kevin Costner’s hugely ambitious western movie series Horizon – An American Saga still needs more money to get the last two films shot.
We’re just over three weeks away from the release of Kevin Costner’s passionate project – or at least the first part of it – Horizon: An American Saga – Part 1. This is Costner’s return to the director’s chair for the first time since Open Range over 20 years ago, in a project that he’s conceived, co-written, and takes the lead role in.
Already pretty much complete is Horizon: An American Saga – Part 2. But Costner has envisaged this as a four part movie series, and once he’d completed some promotional work for the first movie, he was off to Utah to start filming the rest of the saga.
Still, these films aren’t cheap, and while Costner has put a fair amount of his own funds into them,...

Poor William Bonney is facing an uphill battle in the Lincoln County War.
That continued to be made abundantly clear on Billy the Kid Season 2 Episode 5.
It's Billy and a handful of good-hearted ranchers and farmers who are up against the greedy and corrupt in Lincoln and New Mexico in general.
It doesn't seem fair, does it?
Billy's supporters can't catch a break.
For example, take the Regulators' encounter with "Buckshot" Roberts.
Granted, Buckspot is a sharpshooter, but he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, as he proved in his demise.
Horizon: An American Saga: Release Date, Cast, Trailer and Everything We Know About Kevin Costner's Western Epic
Yet somehow, he doggedly, if drunkenly, tracked Billy through the wilderness and rode right into the Regulators' camp, with no one stopping this apparent threat.

For his fourth outing as a director Kevin Costner gets back in the saddle for another exploration of America’s roots, already visited in Dances With Wolves and Open Range.
Clearly this is a passion project which at more than three hours’ running time may just test the patience of some of the audience. It has all the hallmarks of a production destined for a television mini-series with apparently three other chapters promised by Costner.
Set in 1859 the narrative covers the territories that extend from Wyoming to Kansas, focusing on the violence that flares between the settlers and the indigenous tribes.
For anyone starved of what used to be a Hollywood staple genre Costner delivers many of the traditional ingredients with stunning landscapes, colourful characters including the man himself as a grumpy horse trader although he doesn’t appear until about an hour in.
Horizon is a settlement which only is beginning to take faltering.

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has been a primary player in the television frontier for quite some time now. The drama of cowboys, ranchers, politicians, lawyers, and Native Americans, with generations of simmering tension between them has found a strong foothold in the industry as viewers flock to the screens to witness Sheridan’s mastery at work.

While the Marvel side of things struggles to hold on to a strong footing, Disney can go back to developing other franchises in the superhero genre. Taylor Sheridan may not have much to offer in terms of acting experience but when it comes to crafting masterpieces from words, he may as well be the Picasso of television. The Mad Max franchise is unarguably one of the most popular action franchises of all time, created by mastermind George Miller. While the star power connected to it — which includes notable names like Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy, and Mel Gibson — is one factor behind its epic success, its breathtaking action sequences and stunt scenes further set the saga apart from every other.

The Taylor Sheridan-created Yellowstone is a milestone when it comes ti the Western genre. Starting Kevin Costner in the lead, the TV show is almost at its end, even though we are yet to get any updates on the second half of the fifth and final season of the show. Yellowstone has been one of the most significant television shows over the recent few years. It boasts a magnificent cast and a much-celebrated universe centering around the Dutton Ranch.
Besides the worldwide popularity of the show for its content, Yellowstone has also witnessed several off-screen dramas that include legal battles. The show faced a prominent legal battle when creator Taylor Sheridan filed a lawsuit against actor Cole Hauser’s coffee company.

As Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner lock horns over the latter’s Yellowstone departure, the rest of the world patiently awaits the dust to settle and both parties to reach an agreeable verdict. With every volatile barb exchanged and false rumors coloring the news headlines, the unfolding drama only makes the Paramount series more susceptible to adverse opinions affecting its viewership.

However, circumstances pushed the Oscar-winner to place his own priorities first, thus leaving Yellowstone to pursue his long-awaited passion project, Horizon: An American Saga.

One’s life’s work is not measured by the awards or honors received in service of one’s contribution but by the value and worth contained in the work itself. For Taylor Sheridan, Yellowstone is the one that will stand as his legacy long after he is gone. However, Kelly Reilly missed the memo on legacy, value, reward, and honor, given how difficult her life has become in the aftermath of Yellowstone.

Reilly’s arc as Beth Button still has a long way to go but behind-the-scenes drama and personal commitments have proven difficult to manage amidst the show’s ever-growing popularity among fans and followers.

Over the years, Matt Damon has turned into one of the biggest names in Hollywood. He was the protagonist of his own film series, has been in many Oscar-winning projects, has been nominated for the award five times himself, and even won once. It is safe to say that he is one of the most talented, respected, and recognized actors in the film industry.

The love towards westerns is easily understandable: which other genre can give us so many different stories at the same time? There’s always a pride and honor plotline, a romantic story, some family drama, and of course good-old fight scenes in a picturesque landscape.
For many years after the golden era with Wayne and Eastwood the role of an iconic western leading man went to Kevin Costner, especially amid the tremendous success of the Yellowstone series.
But we think it's only fair to mention another brilliant western performance by another A-list actor, Pierce Brosnan. The former James Bond and Mamma Mia star actually made quite an impression as Eli McCullough, the greedy Texas oil tycoon in a western series called The Son.
The Son is a multigenerational epic that tells the story of Eli’s life from his complicated childhood to the times when he becomes a father of the family.

While most know Kevin Costner for all the masterpieces he has led to date which include credits like Yellowstone and Dances with Wolves, not many know that the actor cum producer has led some epically disastrous projects as well. And while these projects didn’t necessarily drown because of his acting, one of them did, in fact, end up in the dump because of its bloated budget.

This dates back to the 1990s, when having budgets for a project in tens of millions was already considered high, let alone one in hundreds of millions, like Waterworld, which was, pretty much, one of the biggest disasters in Hollywood. The reason behind this was Costner himself, who ended up shooting up the budget by a whopping 35 times than what was required!

You might want to smash your head on the wall after learning about all the journeys that led to Waterworld’s creation, a tale rich with sorts of twists and turns. The tumultuous trip of the film’s high seas production is storied, but with the tense involvement of two Kevins—director Kevin Reynolds and lead Kevin Costner—the astronomical costs and the perilous sets, are not as often recounted as its origin story.
The production of Waterworld was just drawn out; the script was initially penned by Peter Rader in the 1980s. Around this period, a number of tales served as inspiration for the movie, including those of Mad Max. The film had already been rewritten multiple times by the time Reynolds and Costner were attached.

Twin movies. Doppelgängers. Rapid fire remakes. Whatever you want to call them, Hollywood studios have a long and painful history of rushing concepts that run the gamut from similar to identical into theaters at virtually the same moment. Oftentimes the belief is if you get before the cameras first, the competitor(s) will throw in the towel and cancel production. Yet once in a while what seems like a turf war played out in industry trade papers, where the disputed territories are overlapping ideas or historical personages, spills out into the multiplex as “the same movie” comes to cinemas weeks or months apart.
This phenomenon is more than a hundred years old, with the first such instance believed to be two silent adaptations of Ivanhoe being produced on different continents in 1913, although a clearer kickoff might be when Paramount and MGM competed to get the first American Mata Hari movie...

Kevin Costner risked everything to get his Horizon movies done: his lead role in Yellowstone, his ridiculously expensive property, and an ungodly amount of personal money. When it was announced that Yellowstone would conclude with its fifth season, many reports emerged stressing this was a result of an alleged feud between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan. Moreover, considering that Costner has kickstarted his own film series with Horizon: An American Saga, some speculated his commitment to the Western epic might’ve contributed to its ending.
But earlier this month, the actor finally cleared the air surrounding the Yellowstone drama, even stating that he initially signed in for seven seasons of Sheridan’s western drama.

There has long been rumored tension between Kevin Costner and Yellowstone showrunner Taylor Sheridan, as it was speculated Costner’s alleged issues with the writer led to his exit from the show. But despite marking his exit from the universally acclaimed show, which will end with its second half of season 5, the JFK star isn’t done with westerns, as he has now kickstarted his own film series.
However, during the premiere of his Horizon: An American Saga, the actor fueled up rumors surrounding the Yellowstone creator plagiarizing materials from other Westerns.

The big question that keeps popping up amid Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone fallout is whether the Oscar-winning actor will ever return to the Paramount series without further escalation of the already overblown drama.

The American Western may have long passed its heyday, but the genre has endured throughout the years. While the visuals and ideas it addresses may change, the basic foundation continues to draw fans. Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone is coming to an end with the second part of the final season, currently in production. While a spinoff series is in the slate from the same creator, neither Sheridan nor Paramount has said anything definitive about the series. According to a recent report, three major Yellowstone stars would return to the spinoff series with a record salary.

It was reported that Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes would return in the spinoff. Earlier reports suggested that the spinoff is eyeing top actors like Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer, who are pricier than the three aforementioned Yellowstone stars.
However, it is unlikely that these stars would beat the record salaries of Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon in The Morning Show.

And yet, despite being one of the actor cum director’s best-ever projects to date, the series still seemingly faces the wrath of critics, as Sheridan himself admitted it.

That said, the 54-year-old cowboy never hesitated to respond back to all of those critics either. In fact, if anything, he used that very star-studded Kevin Costner-led series to troll critics as a response to their critical reviews on the same. And now, the Wind River helmer seems to have finally revealed the real reason behind just why his genius decided to take this approach.
