- DirectorSpencer Gordon BennetStarsRobert LoweryJohnny DuncanJane AdamsSecond serial featuring the comic book character Batman. In it, Batman, together with his sidekick Robin, face off against the Wizard, a hooded villain with an electronic device that remotely controls vehicles. In 1943 there was a clunky racist serial called The Batman - the terrible bat-costumes make the 43 Bat show unwatchable today. Thankfully, in 1949, Columbia re-cast Batman and did everything 100 times better in Batman and Robin (1949).
- CreatorC.C. BeckBill ParkerStarsMichael GrayLes TremayneJackson BostwickA young boy, able to transform into the superhero Captain Marvel, travels the country fighting evil and helping people.Despite not being Batman, this series manages to capture that harmless child-like appeal of the 1966 series.
- DirectorFord BeebeSaul A. GoodkindStarsBuster CrabbeConstance MooreJackie MoranA 20th Century pilot named Buck Rogers and his young friend Buddy Wade awake from 500 years in suspended animation to find that the world has been taken over by the outlaw army of Killer Kane.I call this serial Batman and Robin in Space.
- DirectorRoger CormanStarsAntony CarboneBetsy Jones-MorelandRobert TowneA crook decides to bump off members of his inept crew and blame their deaths on a legendary sea creature. What he doesn't know is that the creature is real. The title is a bit misleading. The creature in this Roger Corman oddity is only about 20% of the movie! This is an early example of so-bad-it-is-good humour! Released in 1961 but filmed in 1959, I can't think of a pre-1959 flick with comedy like this!
- DirectorTim BurtonStarsMichael KeatonJack NicholsonKim BasingerThe Dark Knight of Gotham City begins his war on crime with his first major enemy being Jack Napier, a criminal who becomes the clownishly homicidal Joker.Okay, this is a bit grim and nasty, but not as grim and nasty as the stuff that would come out of Hollywood in the 21st century. I love 1989 Batman!
- DirectorJoel SchumacherStarsVal KilmerTommy Lee JonesJim CarreyBatman must battle former district attorney Harvey Dent, who is now Two-Face and Edward Nygma, The Riddler with help from an amorous psychologist and a young circus acrobat who becomes his sidekick, Robin. After the 1989 movie they toned things down a bit. Some people hate this flick but I have always been a fan - even if Robin is a complaining jerk at times!
- DirectorJoel SchumacherStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerGeorge ClooneyChris O'DonnellBatman and Robin try to keep their relationship together even as they must stop Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy from freezing Gotham City.Robin is still a jerk at times but the first ten or 15 minutes of this flick contain some of the best action scenes in 90s Hollywood cinema.
- DirectorIshirô HondaStarsAkira TakaradaJoseph CottenCesar RomeroA journalist is saved by a giant submarine captained by a 200-year-old man who takes him to an underwater paradise city where no one ages. That's when monsters and mutants sent by the captain's rival, a 200-year-old scientist, attack.Cesar Romero aka The Joker had a ball appearing in this Japanese/American co-production.
- DirectorJoseph SargentStarsRobert VaughnDavid McCallumLeo G. CarrollAn UNCLE translator, Mandy Stevenson, seeks excitement. Solo, feeling sorry for her, "recruits" Mandy to be a courier. In reality, she is only supposed to get Waverly more pipe tobacco. Things go askew when Mandy is given actual valuable information (a list of Thrush agents in France). UNCLE and Thrush comb New York to find Mandy.Cesar Romero aka The Joker just before 1966 Batman. The hands down best episode of UNCLE has Romero appearing as the nasty well spoken head of "THRUSH". It has often been reported that the UNCLE series used the same sort of "camp" humour as 1966 Batman. Well I usually turned to UNCLE for other things but I can say that one two-part adventure (from season four) was very amusing: The Prince of Darkness Affair.
- DirectorAlex MarchPaul StaderStarsJosé FerrerBurgess MeredithMel FerrerAfter a century of being in suspended animation, the mysterious submarine commander is revived in modern times for new adventures.Burgess Meredith aka The Penguin.
- DirectorJud TaylorStarsWilliam ShatnerLeonard NimoyDeForest KelleyThe Enterprise encounters two duo-chromatic and mutually belligerent aliens who put the ship in the middle of their old conflict.Frank Gorshin aka The Riddler.
- DirectorHerb WallersteinStarsWilliam ShatnerLeonard NimoyDeForest KelleyKirk and Spock are taken prisoners by a former starship captain named Garth, who now resides at, and has taken over, a high security asylum for the criminally insane.Yvonne Craig aka Batgirl in her best role ever!
- DirectorLeo PennStarsRichard BasehartDavid HedisonVictor BuonoNelson visits a scientist that's created cyborgs who hold him prisoner. Then a Nelson cyborg is sent to the Seaview to start a war.Victor Buono aka King Tut.
- 1964–196852mTV-G7.3 (117)TV EpisodeDirectorHarry HarrisStarsRichard BasehartDavid HedisonVincent PriceA puppeteer comes on board to entertain the crew. But it is later revealed that his puppets are alive and they plan to take over the sub. That's when they replace the crew members with duplicates. Only Nelson and Crane are left to try and stop them.Vincent Price aka Egghead.
- DirectorRobert SparrStarsRichard BasehartDavid HedisonMichael PateInvestigating why the world's oceans are rising, the Seaview finds a race of Frost Men at the Polar Cap who are increasing the temperature and they want the submarines' reactor to help them leave the earth.A touch of the Mr Freeze episodes.
- DirectorMichael BenvenisteHoward ZiehmStarsJason WilliamsSuzanne FieldsJoseph HudginsEmperor Wang is leader of the planet Porno and sends his mighty sex ray toward Earth, which turns everyone into sex-mad fiends. Only one person can save the Earth, football player Flesh Gordon. This film has a touch of the campy 1966 Batman humour but done in an R-rated way! Once X-rated before cuts. For decades people have been saying Flash Gordon (1980), written by a Batman writer, resembles the Adam West series - but I don't see it! Flesh Gordon (1974) is the hands down best version of Flash Gordon ever made!
- CreatorGeorge W. TrendleStarsBruce LeeVan WilliamsWende WagnerA newspaper publisher and his Asian valet/martial arts expert battle crime as the feared Green Hornet and Kato.Done by the same producer at the same studio as 1966 Batman. Also same composer: Billy May.
- DirectorRick MoralesStarsAdam WestBurt WardJulie NewmarBatman and Robin of the 1960s live action series are back in action to take down their fiendish foes united once more against them. This gets better with repeat viewings. I was only a mild fan on first viewing but after a few screenings - it blew me away!
- DirectorRick MoralesStarsAdam WestBurt WardWilliam ShatnerGotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent is mutilated in a laboratory accident. When the duplicitous Two-Face embarks on a crime spree, Batman and Robin must solve the mystery of his identity while facing off against several other foes.In some ways this is too grim for a 1966 series reboot, but hey, Adam West and Burt Ward are still here - so how can I complain?
- StarsDiana MaddoxPat Harrington Jr.Ted KnightThe adventures of the aquatic superhero and his friends.I call this cartoon Batman and Robin Underwater!
- DirectorPaul A. KaufmanStarsAdam WestBurt WardJack BrewerWhen the Batmobile is stolen, Adam West and Burt Ward search for it while remembering their days as the stars of the Batman live action series. The flashback scenes are outstanding. The present day (2003) scenes are not so good.
- DirectorMatthew HiscoxStarsChristopher L. RobinsonMatthew HiscoxJennifer ZhangBatman, Robin and Nightwing investigate a mysterious assailant who is targeting the kingpins of Gotham's criminal underground. As more of the rogues gallery is ensnared, a disturbing revelation about the attacker's identity takes shape.Actually a fan film made with both Batman and Robin.
- CreatorFrank D. GilroyStarsGene BarryGary ConwayRegis ToomeyThe millionaire captain of the LAPD homicide division is driven to the crime scenes in his 1962 Rolls-Royce by his loyal chauffeur. This only just fits in this list. A very light crime series loaded with clever one-liners (from Burke) and he even has a youthful assistant. Burgess Meredith appeared playing a crazy guy.
- DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsSean ConneryJill St. JohnCharles GrayA diamond smuggling investigation leads James Bond to Las Vegas where he uncovers an evil plot involving a rich business tycoon. The humour is often compared to 1966 Batman.
- DirectorPhil KarlsonStarsDean MartinStella StevensDaliah LaviRetired agent Matt Helm is re-activated in order to stop an evil organization from exploding an atom bomb over the USA and starting WWIII.The humour is often compared to 1966 Batman.
