- A runaway freight train is running wild toward Benbow; the night mail-train is heading in the opposite direction on the same railroad tracks; and The Midnight Limited, carrying 300 men and women passengers, including his sweetheart, is on the parallel track, with all three coming together at the same point. What's a poor dispatcher to do?
- When Coast Guard Captain Tom Norris, at Point Lobos, Maine, save Natalie Aldridge from drowning, a romance blossoms much to the dislike of Carlton Aldrich, Natalie's uncle, who wishes her to marry Lonsdayle. In spite of her uncle, Natalie and Tom are married and live in a small cottage near the Coast Guard station, and Aldridge ignores them. Tom is assigned to capture the oyster pirates and does so, but the pirate leader escapes and plans to keep Tom from testifying against his men by kidnapping Natalie. (This film, and a few other Paul Gerson films, were never copyrighted.)
- Jimmy, a prizefighter of considerable prowess, earns an easy living by betting on his opponents and intentionally losing. He is reformed by the exacting influence of his girl friend, Ruth, and retires from the ring. Jimmy's sudden honesty arouses the suspicion and enmity of his manager, placing him in considerable danger.
- Three stock market investors in San Francisco find themselves the target of a mystery investor, who is driving them to bankruptcy. The mystery investor is also sending the men a threat in the form of a note containing a tiger's head and a number, with the number indicating the number of days they have to live. When the daughter of one of the investors discovers the plot, she decides to take the matter into her own hands to save the two men she loves, and finds herself involved with a sinister Rajah and his beautiful slave-girl.
- Glenn Horton, a youth addicted to golf, arouses the wrath of passers-by when he practices his swing on his front lawn. He drives golf balls so recklessly that he is finally chased into the freight yards by an irate crowd. There he rescues the mayor's daughter from a thug who is kidnapping her, and he and the girl are carried off in a boxcar. After a series of adventures, Glenn saves the mayor from assassination by the very thug who attempted to kidnap the girl. Glenn and the mayor's daughter are married.
- Popular patrolman Danny Moore fails of promotion when he stops to aid an injured child and lets several thugs escape. When Danny is later informed of the plans of a criminal gang to rob Jack Griffen's bank, he gets departmental permission to set a trap and rounds up the robbers, gaining himself his promotion at last. It is a hollow honor, however, for, along with the thieves, he had to arrest his own daughter, Mary, who seemed to be an accomplice of the thieves. Jack Griffen, who is in love with Mary, comes forward, however, and proves the girl's innocence. Danny gets his sergeant's stripes, and Mary and Jack make plans to get married.
- Some valuable pearls are stolen in China and transported to San Francisco. Jane Hampton learns that her father is the smuggler, and that police are on his trail. Under pressure, she takes the pearls to a Chinese man named Woo Fong. She is surprised to find Woo Fong is fascinated by a small Buddha figure she has worn since childhood. He promises her that it will always protect her. However, when she goes to the docks, she is badly injured by attackers. David Benton picks her up and takes her on his boat to a little town up the coast, where his mother can take care of her. Explaining that she must return the jewels to their rightful owner, she entrusts them to David. He is attacked on his boat, and when he opens the packet of pearls, he discovers that they are only pebbles. Woo Fong had switched the pearls in order to protect them from the thieves. David eventually beats Jane's father in a fight, then claims her hand in marriage.
- A female secret service agent falls in love with a fugitive she thinks she has captured, only to discover that he too is a secret service agent.
- Tells of Caleb Plummer, his son Edward and blind daughter Bertha, and rivalry over neighbor May Fielding. May's friend Dot weds John Peerybingle; they find a lucky cricket in their cottage. A mortgage and house on fire figure in the story.
- A desert prospecter, Dick Norton, decides to head to the Klondike in search of gold. In the Klondike, Norton becomes a mining engineer whose honesty upsets a crooked Mortimer Pearson. Norton's girlfriend, Violet Winter and her father suddenly arrive in town. The father has taken ill. A fight breaks out between Pearson and Norton over Violet. In the struggle, which Norton wins, Norton's tie tac is caught on Pearson's sleeve. Pearson sends his men to obtain directions to a valuable mine. During the theft, the owner, Dowing, is shot, but is able to write a message. Pearson places Norton's tie tac on the body and steals the note. Norton is arrested for the murder. Violet, hoping to save her father's life, turns to Pearson, who has an Indian take her father to a doctor. Meanwhile, Lightning Girl keeps watch outside of Norton's jail-house window. Pearson coerces Violet to accompany him on a trip to claim the stolen mine. Norton sends Lightning Girl to get his coat, which has a file in it. He escapes and the pair head off after Pearson and Violet. Lighting and Norton arrive just in time to save Violet from an attack in a cabin. Norton and Pearson fight, with Norton grabbing the papers and tossing Pearson out. Pearson heads to town to get help since the papers include the note from the dead man. Finding the note, Norton knows they are now in danger. He gives all the papers to Lightning Girl and sends her to Dolan's. As Lightning Girl makes her way, Norton and Violet fight off the killers. Lightning and Dolan's gang arrive just in time.
- Percy Browning, the spineless son of a wealthy man, is thrown out of his eastern college after refusing to enter into a fight that he had instigated. Hoping to make a man out of him, his father sends him and his equally spineless friend out West to a lumber camp he owns. At the camp, where the men follow the rule of survival of the toughest, Percy is tormented by the biggest bully, Big Dan. Percy soon falls in love with Peggy Richmond, the daughter of a rival lumber camp owner. Because Peggy inspires Percy to become more of a man, he eventually proves himself, even to Big Dan, winning Peggy's heart and his father's respect.
- Jimmy Kenton, a young wastrel with an addiction to jazz, falls in love with Marguerite Crandall when she sneers at his sporty antics at a health resort. He is then sent to jail following an altercation with her escort. Jimmy's father, Mark Kenton, pays his son's bail and sends him to San Francisco, CA, to close an important real estate deal with Marguerite's father, George. The determined young man vows not to sleep until he has completed the transaction, and Mark decides to make him regret such a rash promise. He arranges with the George to delay closing the deal for as long as possible and has Pat Casey accompany Jimmy to ensure that he stays awake. After Jimmy rescues Marguerite from a forest fire, George closes the deal and permits his daughter to marry Jimmy.
- In an effort to reform, Raffles obtains a job as maid in the household of the wealthy Lowden family after her release from jail. There she learns that a former accomplice is luring her employer's daughter, Joan, into marriage for her money, but she knows that alarming her employer would expose her own background. Raffles is accused when the daughter steals from her father at the lover's bidding. However, Raffles clears herself, wins the respect of her employer, and marries the foreman, Tom Dover, with whom she had been in love before she went to prison.
- Firemen Tom and Joe each loves the other's sister, although neither is able to support a wife. Tom's troubles are compounded by a rival for his sweetheart's hand. In a drawn out fight he bests the rival, who steals the revenue from the firemen's ball (of which Tom is treasurer) and hides the money in the storage warehouse in which Tom's sister works as a stenographer. While Tom, Joe, and their sweethearts search for the money, the villain also returns for his loot, and, in his haste, he sets the building afire--trapping the foursome behind a steel door. Their calls for help reach the street, an alarm is turned in, firemen come to the rescue, and the money is found in a blazing desk.
- After a Russian Count dies in Pop's hotel, to attract customers he starts a rumor that the count left a large amount of cash hidden somewhere in the hotel. The townspeople check in and commence destroying everything in sight to find it.
- Nosey Nichols, the official bootlegger, discovers that his still is on fire. The delays before Pop Tuttle and his fire squad, headed by Tillie, finally get to the scene of need, provoke a great deal of irresistible comedy.
- A criminal gang gains the confidence of a superstitious San Francisco millionaire Lorenzo Hayward by posing as clairvoyants. Having acquired his power of attorney, the swindlers then kidnap the millionaire's daughter Helen. Dick, a young man in love with Helen sets out after the kidnappers and, after a wild chase up and down the hills of the city, rescues her and brings the criminals to justice.
- Idler and man-about-town resolves dispute over the ownership of some real estate and wins girl, whom he rescues from ill treatment.
- Pop is a theatrical producer in the village of Plum Center. Pop's offerings, presented at the Tuttle Opery House, consist of "Romeo and Juliet" and "Richard III."
- Gordon Palmer, the son of a rich man, is the epitome of sloth until he and his sweetheart are held up by two thieves who take, among other valuables, her engagement ring. Gordon, aroused at last from lethargy, pursues the men and scares them into returning the jewelry. When his father is later faced with financial ruin, Gordon saves the family business by stealing proxies from his father's partners with the help of the two crooks who once robbed him. Gordon's unorthodox business methods work, and his father is saved from ruin. Gordon then weds Aileen.
- Pop Tuttle runs the village stage, which meets all trains. He is returning with the week's mail when he is held up by a bandit. He consents to give the thug the mail if he will shoot bullet holes in his hat as an alibi. After the bandit empties his gun shooting holes in Pop's clothes, Pop pulls his own gun and making him mount Wildfire, the town's truck horse, rides him into town and gets the reward.
- Dick Van Buren, a wealthy young man with a penchant for breaking traffic laws, is arrested for speeding and sentenced to 10 days in jail. He is given the option to work out his sentence and becomes a lifeguard at a public beach, where he rescues a mysterious woman from several perils. The woman, with whom he begins a romance, turns out to be a famous film actress caught up in the frenetic antics of a publicity campaign.
