One Tree Hill (2003)
Drama series about two brothers and their lives and loves in the fictional town Tree Hill.
One Tree Hill came on about the same time as The O.C came on, but the two shows couldn't be more different, and besides the fact that O.C attracts a larger audience, One Tree Hill is the better show. First of all, it has better actors. All the young leads are confident and convincing in their roles, and there is seldom a "false" moment on the show (as compared to The O.C, whose cast includes both the horrible mumblings of Mischa Barton and the horrible wooden acting of Benjamin McKenzie). The cast of One Tree Hill is of course helped immensely by the fact that their characters are so well written; they are people the audience really cares for, and takes an active interest in (as demonstrated on the multiple fan sites and message boards dedicated to the "Naley"-relationship and the "Lucas-Peyton-Brooke"-triangle.
One Tree Hill also has excellent writers, who are not afraid to deal with heavy topics like teen pregnancy, date rape, drug abuse and school shootings. The dialogue has a true ring to it, and the story lines are believable and engaging. It is hard not to get caught up in the lives of the Tree Hill teens.
Lastly, and most importantly, One Tree Hill has heart. A lot of it. Love and friendship are the main themes of the show, and the writers, directors and cast have a way of making themes old as time feel new, fresh and interesting.
Rumour has it that the WB won't renew the show for a fourth season. Hopefully, this is not true. One Tree Hill has so much potential, so much talent, heart and soul, and it would be a true shame if the WB decided not to renew it.
Så som i himmelen (2004)
A highly overrated melodramatic picture, marred even more by poor directing, a horrible script and bad acting.
This movie is by far the worst film I have seen in a long time. Set somewhere in Norrland, Sweden, the plot revolves around a famous conductor (terribly played by Mikael Nyqvist) who returns to the village he grew up in to ponder his life, but soon finds himself in charge of the local church choir.
This movie is a real piece of crap. 90% of the actors over-act (at least one person breaks into tears/and or yells in most of the scenes), the directing is awful, and the script is so bad, most of the time, you just want to cover your face in shame when anyone on-screen opens his or her mouth. Stereotypes and clichés are stacked upon each other in this picture, and the movie is at least half an hour too long. But worst of all is the way the director and actors approach the musical part of the story. For anyone who has been in a choir, be it on a professional or amateur level, it is blatantly obvious that the director and actors have no idea what they are doing. Earth to the film's cast and crew: DO YOUR RESEARCH!
In conclusion, this movie is so bad that I wouldn't even advise my worst enemy to go and see it. Or rent it. Or watch it on TV. Or even touch it. Or look at the cover in the videostore. It is THAT BAD.
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Simply, completely and totally WONDERFUL!!!
The gripping tale of two star-crossed lovers...a beautiful courtesan falls in love with a penniless writer, who can provide her with nothing but undying love and devotion. One of the best movies ever made...almost unbearably romantic, excellent music, terrific casting. A true masterpiece. Overwhelming and so incredibly beautiful!!!
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
A true masterpiece which marks the end of the greatest film-trilogy of all time!
The movie does the book justice. It has everything one can ask for in a movie; excitement, friendship, loyalty, action and a story which proves that even the smallest person can change the course of the world.
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King is one of the greatest movies ever made!!!
