Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
So bad its Good
Killer Klowns is an ideal movie to watch on Halloween with friends and a few drinks. It's cheesy, goofy, and doesn't take itself seriously.
The Killer Klowns themselves look exactly like cartoons come to life - they're gruesome, lack proportion, and make you feel a little nauseous to look at, and their circus tent space ships are filled with trippy architecture and colors.
Ginger Snaps (2000)
A Refresh of the Werewolf Genre
Female werewolves are something rarely seen in cinema, and the Ginger Snaps trilogy takes the well known mythos and combines it with the fears and societal pressures of female puberty.
Speaking as a woman, going through that time many of us feel monstrous, and Ginger Snaps illustrates that with the grungy, gore obsessed Fitzgerald sisters.
Ginger Snaps is a must see for any werewolf and creature feature fan.
Meet the Feebles (1989)
The Muppet Shows darker twin
Meet the Feebles is hard to describe; there are so many plotlines going on in the film but somehow it doesn't feel disjointed. The entire premise essentially hinges on "muppets being terrible people to one another" and the sordid underbelly of showbiz.
This is considered part of Jackson's "Trilogy of Trash", but I don't think that's a fair title for Feebles. The movie is entertaining, but not in a 'so bad its good' way....it truly is a beast all its own. And the songs featured in it are fairly catchy!
Mr. Neighbor's House (2016)
Something old, something new
Mr. Neighbor's House is a (currently) 2 part dark comedy special that focuses on the inner monologue and escapist fantasies of the titular Mr. Neighbor. While the premise of the specials aren't especially original, the execution, cinematography, and narrative choices feel charming in their own twisted way. I personally hope to see a third installment to see just how Mr. Neighbor's story finishes.
