Following the success of Jonathan Demme's "The Silence of the Lambs" in 1991, Hollywood released an eight-year-long tidal wave of serial killer thrillers, each one pulpier than the last. This was the era of "Seven," "Copycat," "Along Came a Spider," "Jennifer 8," "See No Evil," "Eye of the Beholder," "Sliver," "Knight Moves," and any number of others. Right at the end of the decade came Phillip Noyce's 1999 thriller "The Bone Collector," based on the airport novel by Jeffery Deaver. Deaver's original novel was the first of the long-running Lincoln Rhyme series, a series that saw its 16th installment published in 2023. Lincoln Rhyme, thanks to a spinal accident, could not move his body below his neck, and fought crime from his bed, deducting details, looking at pictures, and relying on his team.
In the film adaptation, Denzel Washington played Lincoln Rhyme and Angelina Jolie played his plucky crime fighting partner Amelia Donaghy.

Pack your bags, Michael Imperioli… and then, uh, make sure no disgruntled hotel managers can access them.
The Sopranos vet has been tapped for a series-regular role in The White Lotus‘ upcoming second season, according to our sister site Deadline. He’ll appear in the sophomore run as Dominic Di Grasso, who is traveling with his son — a recent college graduate — and his elderly father.
Season 1 of The White Lotus focused on a group of vacationers at the swanky titular Hawaiian resort. The new installments will leave Hawaii and take place at a different White Lotus property, though the exact locale has yet to be confirmed. As TVLine exclusively reported in October, Jennifer Coolidge — who earned raves for her Season 1 work as Tanya McQuoid in the HBO series — is also set to come back for Season 2, though the premium cabler did not comment on her return.
In fact, in a poll conducted shortly after The White Lotus‘ first season finale, Coolidge’s Tanya was voted the character that TVLine readers most wanted to see reappear in Season 2, followed by Natasha Rothwell’s Belinda and Alexandra Daddario’s Rachel.
Imperioli is best known for his turn as Christopher Moltisanti in The Sopranos, a role he reprised via voiceover in 2021 for the Sopranos prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark. More recently, the actor’s TV credits have included Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector, Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-0 and Californication.

Paris-based Lincoln TV is set to reunite with the creative team behind “Mirage” on a period series about the turbulent life of Sylvia Kristel, the 1970’s sex symbol and star of the erotic film trilogy “Emmanuelle.”
Titled “Sylvia,” the six-part series will be based on Kristel’s 2006 autobiography “Nue” (“Naked”), in which the late actress chronicles her rise and tragic downfall.
Currently at the script stage, the series is being created and penned by Bénédicte Charles and Olivier Pouponneau, who previously wrote “Mirage” with Franck Philippon. Lincoln TV, the well-established banner founded by veteran producers Christine de Bourbon-Busset and Marc Missonnier, has acquired the audiovisual rights to Kristel’s autobiography from the publishing house Cherche-Midi.
The project is currently being shopped to key French channels and Lincoln TV is aiming to partner up with a Flemish co-producer.
“We think the story of Sylvia will strike a chord in the post-MeToo era.

NBC has finalized decisions on some of its remaining shows, picking up another season of “Manifest” and cancelling “Indebted,” “Bluff City Law” and “Sunnyside,” TheWrap has learned
The network, which has not yet unveiled its fall schedule, has held off on making renewal and cancellation decisions this year beyond the typical May upfronts deadline, with the freshman drama “Council of Dads” still in limbo as its 10-episode season finishes out its run.
The cancellations for “Sunnyside” and “Bluff City Law” come long after both shows were taken off the network’s schedule. “Sunnyside” was moved to digital last fall after a handful of episodes, while “Bluff City” law was passed over for a full-season pickup in November. “Indebted” completed airing its 12-episode season in April.

On June 12 the motion picture academy announced changes to the Oscars, including a return to a guaranteed 10 nominees for Best Picture. In recent years the academy has had a sliding scale between 5 and 10 nominees depending on how the voting shook out. In each of those years there were either eight or nine contenders, which means that one or two more films would’ve been included if there had been a full 10 slots. Which films do you think would have benefited from more room in the top category?
For decades the academy only nominated five films for Best Picture, but outcry over the snubs of the 2008 films “The Dark Knight” and “Wall-e” prompted the academy to expand to 10. But that was only in effect for the eligibility years 2009 and 2010, after which the academy implemented the sliding scale, which has been in place for the last nine years. So who came closest in those contests?...

As protests over police brutality continue across America this week in the wake of George Floyd’s death at the hands of former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin, popular reality shows chronicling — and often lionizing — police activity, like “Cops” and “Live Pd,” have been sent to the slammer. Scripted series about law enforcement agents have been a mainstay on television since the black-and-white days, but they’re not exactly a dominant genre on the broadcast networks this season. The lone cop series in the Top 10 in broadcast ratings so far this season is Fox’s “9-1-1.” However, if you omit sports programming from the equation, NBC’s “Chicago Pd” joins the Top 10. CBS’ “NCIS” makes it three in the Top 20, with or without sports. Overall, TheWrap tallied 22 cop shows on broadcast this season — and half of them on CBS alone. Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector will cease any kind of hunt, at least on NBC, which has canceled the serial-killer-chasing drama after an abbreviated inaugural season.
NBC’s cancelation of Lincoln Rhyme, reported via Variety, was a two-birds-with-one-stone move that also saw the nixing of another freshman offering in the Bradley Whitford-headlined comedy, Perfect Harmony. While no official explanation was given for the cancelations, the move obviously occurs during a time of intrinsic uncertainty with NBC’s 2020-2021 season plans still draped in mystery as productions remain halted in the wake of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis. Thus, while the pandemic has become the go-to generic answer for delays and cancelations, it is, nevertheless, an unavoidable factor.

The world of television production is still on pause due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that hasn't stopped networks and streamers from making decisions about the fates of shows. On Hulu, the streamer said goodbye to the Abigail Spencer-fronted Reprisal, a drama about a woman who was left for dead and stars a vengeful campaign, and Harlots, a period drama starring Jessica Brown Findlay. Meanwhile, after weeks of protests around the world sparked by the death of George Floyd while in police custody, Paramount Network canceled the long-running reality series Cops and A&e said goodbye to Live Pd, another reality series following law enforcement. NBC also canceled two freshman series, Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for...

NBC has announced the fate of two bubble shows, and it's not good news.
The Peacock network has canceled Lincoln Rhyme and Perfect Harmony after their freshman runs.
Lincoln Rhyme starred Grimm's Russell Hornsby as the titular criminal profiler, who became paralyzed after a run-in with a serial murderer known as The Bone Collector years before the series started.
When The Bone Collector became active again, Lincoln was called back into service, with his police partner Amelia (played by The Vampire Diaries' Arielle Kebbel) playing his right hand in the quest to find and take down the killer.
Across its 10-episode run, Lincoln Rhyme averaged a 0.5 demo rating and 3.7 million total viewers. These were decent numbers for Friday, so the series was thought to be in the running for a renewal.
Unfortunately, the delayed ratings were not as strong as NBC had hoped, and that is likely to blame for...

The Bradley Whitford comedy “Perfect Harmony” and Russell Hornsby-led drama “Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector” have been canceled at NBC after one season apiece, an individual familiar with the situation tells TheWrap.
“Perfect Harmony” premiered last fall and averaged a 0.6 rating among the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic and 2.9 million total viewers, according to the “most current” data from Nielsen, which includes a week’s worth of delayed viewing where available. “Lincoln Rhyme” debuted in January and averaged a 0.8 in the key demo and 5.6 million viewers.
Starring Whitford and Anna Camp, “Perfect Harmony” followed former Princeton music professor Arthur Cochran (Whitford), who unexpectedly stumbles into choir practice at a small-town church and finds a group of singers “that are out of tune in more ways than one,” per its official description. “Despite the ultimate clash of sensibilities, Arthur and his newfound cohorts may just be the perfect mix...

The freshman comedy “Perfect Harmony” and the freshman drama “Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector” have both been canceled at NBC, Variety has learned from sources.
“Perfect Harmony” wrapped its one and only season in January, while “Lincoln Rhyme” ended in March.
NBC declined to comment.
The cancellations come as networks and studios are grappling with how to proceed with the fall season in the wake of the production shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic. NBC had already renewed a number of its current shows prior to the shutdown, including “This Is Us,” “New Amsterdam,” all three “Chicago” shows, and “Law & Order: Svu.”
NBC and ABC have not yet released their fall schedules, while Fox, The CW, and CBS have. The CW and Fox are relying heavily on acquired programming and shows held from this season. CBS thus far is the only broadcaster to commit to airing its normal fall lineup.

In the 19 years since 9/11, no American director has responded to and examined the causes, impact, and aftermath of that day as rigorously and repeatedly as Steven Spielberg, which is ironic given how rarely his films are actually set in the present day. With a couple notable exceptions, all of Spielberg’s films since 9/11 take place in either the future or the past. Yet his work couldn’t be more relevant or engaged with contemporary social and political issues; every single one of Spielberg’s post-a.I. movies is as much […]...
