I.S.S. trailer ramps up the paranoia and tension in the isolation of space amid a global devastation
Space is a scary enough place. Imagine being in space and witnessing a devastation taking place on Earth. That’s the start of the premise of the new sci-fi thriller, I.S.S., from Bleecker Street. Bloody Disgusting has just unveiled the new trailer online. The titular initials stand for the International Space Station and is the prime setting for this film. The mood starts friendly enough and showcases the crew of both American and Russian missions living in the structure in perfect harmony. Unbeknownst to them, hell is about to break loose on the planet below. As both crew teams witness vast explosions taking place on the surface of Earth, confusion, sadness, desperation and anger overcome the crew, and as they each receive extreme orders from their governments, the peace within the station dissipates.
The synopsis reads,
“Tensions flare in the near future aboard the International Space Station as...

Now playing in theaters, Universal’s Renfield uses the original Universal Monsters classic Dracula (1931) as the jumping off point for a brand new adventure, dissecting the not-quite-healthy relationship between Dracula and his loyal servant, R.M. Renfield. If you’ve seen it, you might’ve been curious by the images of Nicholas Hoult‘s Renfield dancing in the streets over the end credits.
For the film’s release, Hoult took to Twitter to share the full dance sequence that didn’t make the final cut. The scene comes after Renfield’s triumphant battle with the Lobos at Mulate’s restaurant, an event that inspired Dracula’s (Nicolas Cage) beleaguered familiar to change his ways. Check out the elaborate dance number below.
Renfield is billed as a “modern-day adventure story that is comedic in tone.” This excised number definitely embraces the comedy.

Movie monsters are incredible. The greats of Rick Baker, Phil Tippett, and Greg Nicotero — among many others — have rendered screens both small and large as monstrous gateways to unabashed nightmare fuel. Whether culled from mythology or the classics of the genre, these creations are a tentpole of the enduring monster movie or creature feature. However conceptualized, movie monsters are as much a part of what movies innately are as anything else.
Every year brings new monsters to the table. Some are relegated to indie VOD offerings, some theatrical bows, and some in a weird space between. Here, we'll be taking a look at the 10 scariest movie monsters of 2022. These beasties proved frighteningly fun; some rendered with computer effects, some conceived practically, and all stupendously scary. They're destined to take a bite out of you.

Sony has revealed that 3000 Pictures’ “Where the Crawdads Sing” will open in China beginning Nov. 25, a rare booking for a Hollywood film as the nation has cut back on foreign releases.
The Reese Witherspoon-produced melodrama, about a young outcast who finds herself embroiled in a murder trial, has already earned 140.2 million worldwide. That is nearly six times its 24 million production budget in global theatrical revenue alone, so anything from China can be treated as glorified “found money.”
Based on Delia Owens’s bestselling novel, director Olivia Newman and writer Lucy Alibar’s period piece was notable last summer for being among the only mainstream theatrical releases from, for and about women. In a summer ruled by mavericks, minions, superheroes and space rangers, the Daisy Edgar-Jones vehicle opened with 17.25 million debut weekend in mid-July and legged out to 90.2 million domestic.

Photo: 'Run Sweetheart Run' When it comes to today’s horror movies, the genre is ever-changing due to raising the stakes for the characters, having a high body count, and demonstrating awareness of unsettling circumstances that come from unheard voices or minorities. The movie was written (along with writers Keith Josef Adkins and Kelle Terrel) and directed by Shana Feste. Shana is well-known for making underrated gems like ‘Country Strong,’ the 2014 remake of ‘Endless Love,’ and ‘Hilary Swank’s ‘You’re Not You.’ The horror story has an interesting take on the dating scene in the 21st-century era and how a female can be a victim of a violent bad date. Even though the protagonist is the victim of such a predicament, she becomes her own hero of the story. The movie is released by Amazon Prime and is produced by Jason Blum from Blumhouse Productions. Stars: Ella Balinska, Pilou Asbæk, Clark Gregg, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dayo Okeniyi | Written by Shana Festes, Keith Josef Adkins, Kellee Terrell | Directed by Shana Festes
Initially apprehensive when her boss insists she meet with one of his most important clients, single mom Cherie (Ella Balinska) is relieved and excited when she meets charismatic Ethan (Pilou Asbæk). The influential businessman defies expectations and sweeps Cherie off her feet. But at the end of the night, when the two are alone together, he reveals his true, violent nature. Battered and terrified, she flees for her life, beginning a relentless game of cat-and-mouse with a bloodthirsty assailant hell-bent on her utter destruction.
The first act of Shana Feste’s Run Sweetheart Run sets the tone for an extremely dark, atmospheric, and downright uncomfortable viewing experience that shows that you simply cannot trust anybody you meet; even those that seem to be totally fine. It...

There are a few moments within this movie that feel as though they might have touched upon a theme that is less than desirable to a lot of people, but otherwise, this is a horror movie like many others in that it features a protagonist, an antagonist, and a driving need for the former to find a way to eradicate the latter. Cherie, a working woman and a mother that hasn’t dated in quite a while, is asked by her boss to attend to a client, as it would appear that he’s double-booked his anniversary and dinner with the client.

Run Sweetheart Run, a feminist horror film, follows the story of Cherie as her life is threatened while on a blind date.
Ella Balinska, who plays Cherie, recently sat down with uInterview founder Erik Meers to discuss putting a female lens on a genre that usually focuses on the male perspective.
“[Director] Shana [Feste] can speak to this better than I, but I do know she wrote this from a place of experience,” Balinska revealed. “I think she wrote it in three days. It was a complete catharsis for her when she wrote it and there were so many things that happened to this poor character that I think every audience member can pull from. She gets her period in the film and that otherwise would be portrayed as something which is laughed at or displayed with a slightly more negative light.”

Pilou Asbæk has quickly become one of those actors that many might not immediately know by name, but certainly remember for his villainous characters. From Euron Grayjoy in "Game of Thrones" to Wafner in "Overlord," he's gotten quite good at portraying characters you are either terrified of or want to punch in the face.
When I spoke to him to promote his latest film, "Run Sweetheart Run," it turns out that he loves these types of roles, and this latest one is certainly no different. Asbæk plays Ethan, a mysterious man who meets an aspiring lawyer named Cherie (Ella Balinska) after an internal scheduling error. At least, that's what Cherie thinks. While the two initially hit it off, Cherie realizes that there is something far more sinister about Ethan than he lets on, resulting in a wild chase throughout Los Angeles. When you hear the premise to the new Prime Video and Blumhouse film "Run Sweetheart Run," you probably don't think of romance. However, that is apparently what sparked on its set during filming back in 2019 -- at least, according to star Ella Balinska. We recently spoke to her about her new horror film, which is now streaming, and she revealed that her best friend being on set helped her prepare for the exhaustive role.
"[Here's] a behind-the-scenes thing," she told me. "Whilst I was running for my life on set, she actually now met her fiancé from shooting this movie."
This is a far cry from the encounter Balinska's character, Cherie, has in "Run Sweetheart Run." When she takes her boss's place in a client meeting, she eventually becomes the target of the mysterious Ethan (Pilou Asbæk), forcing her to travel on foot throughout Los Angeles. When "Run Sweetheart Run" premiered at 2020's Sundance Film Festival, it made a splash for its terrifying and unique take on post-#MeToo America. Not only was it a scathing look at how dangerously misogyny can be wielded by abusive men, but despite the high-level concept, it felt deeply personal. That was intentional, as co-writer and director Shana Feste revealed in 2020 that the film was partially based on her own experience with assault.
So how does a director turn a traumatic event into a high-speed popcorn flick? We sat down with Feste for a candid and enlightening interview about the real-world horrors of "Run Sweetheart Run" and how making the film was a cathartic and exhilarating experience.
'I'm Glad It's Turned Into Something That Is Really Fun And Enjoyable And Wild'
You've previously talked about how personal this movie is for you and how it was partially inspired by your own experience.

A woman is hunted through the streets of LA in a silly Amazon thriller that offers some low-stakes fun before over-extending itself
In writer-director Shana Feste’s muddled midnight movie Run Sweetheart Run, life is a string of misogynistic slights for Cherie (Ella Balinska), a young single mother trying to make it at a male-dominated, female-assisted Los Angeles law firm. From unwanted groping on the bus to inappropriate behaviour at work, the men surrounding her are as blunt as they are unashamed of it, a familiar-to-many daily grind she’s accustomed to yet aggrieved with.

Meanwhile Asbæk talks us through his process when it comes to tackling sheer villainy, while also talking about his status in Hollywood, and what his ambitions are. Be sure to watch both interviews in their entirety below.

Ell Balinska doesn’t care much for method acting. When you play a character who spends the entirety of a movie running from a deranged killer who can smell your blood, that seems like a pretty healthy attitude. The 26-year-old Brit, whose mother is the former top model and Food Network host Lorraine Pascale, knows a thing or two about protecting yourself in the midst of a grueling career. Though she is covered in blood in almost every scene of chilling new movie “Run Sweetheart Run,” she learned very quickly not to take work home with her.
“It’s an artist’s temptation to want to suffer and really feel the character. There’s a tricky balance there if you do that because while these themes are very real, the story is not,” the “Charlie’s Angels” star said during a recent interview. “For two weeks after I finished shooting, I...

Plot: After what begins as the perfect first date with a dreamy bachelor, a single mom finds herself hunted by a seemingly unstoppable assailant in this terrifying dark thriller.
Review: Run Sweetheart Run takes the idea of a date gone terribly wrong and turns up the dial as far it’ll go. It’s a cool setup and there are plenty of interesting ways to take the story. Whether or not they did that will be up to the individual because I think this will be a divisive one. There are some very interesting concepts here but there are also very tired ones. So tolerance for such things will be a big factor going into this one.
The movie starts with a very charming date between Cherie (Ella Balinska) and Ethan (Pilou Asbæk). I didn’t know much about the film going into it, so if I didn’t know better,...

It looks like "Run Sweetheart Run" will finally be released after all. After previously being acquired by Amazon Studios in May 2020, the Blumhouse thriller starring Ella Balinska has been given a release date on the platform.
Why are we surprised about the movie's streaming release? It's because this movie has seemingly been locked away in release purgatory for over two years. The film premiered during the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, its last in-person event before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Few details have been released about "Run Sweetheart Run" in the time since its acquisition a few months later, leaving some to wonder if the film...

One of the last movies to become a success at the box office before theaters began shutting down over Covid-19 was The Invisible Man. It was yet another hit for Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions. But for every Invisible Man, there’s The Hunt. Another Blumhouse film that – after being delayed last year due to its subject matter – was then marketed for its delay as a selling point. Unfortunately, it came out in early March, which was right before the shutdown, and was eventually put on streaming platforms, where it didn’t perform terribly well.
This is the current state of movie distribution. Particularly for low-budget films like the ones made at Blumhouse. Since they don’t have the same marketing budget of a typical blockbuster, or the ability to release their stuff in theaters right now, their number one goal is to get as many eyes on the project as possible.
