Transitioning from a period of monochromatic to color television and then taking leaps with technology, the latter half of the ‘90s saw the rise of several acclaimed franchises. Additionally, the constant push to compete and the near-limitless creative options brought over by new cameras and gears helped filmmakers usher in an era of pioneering.
Among the top visionaries of this period, Steven Spielberg stands as a hallowed persona for his immense contribution to the arts as well as to modern cinema.

Spanning across genres, the director’s works knew no bounds as he published one masterpiece after another, including the likes of Jurassic Park, Schindler’s List, Jaws, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Moreover, each of his projects took a step forward in expanding the boundaries of cinematic possibilities, making several franchises of today stand by adapting to those techniques.

Last month, it was revealed that a new Lord of the Rings movie was in the works. This came as a major surprise for fans, especially considering how the last attempt — Rings of Power — went, but nonetheless, there’s a prequel film coming right up. There are still many questions about it, though, as little to no details have been disclosed. What do we already know about the original trilogy’s new prequel?
What’s Up With the New LotR Movie?
As surprising as it may sound, the upcoming Lord of the Rings movie will focus on… Gollum. Or, rather, Smeagol — the person who later on becomes Gollum. An intriguing character in his own right, it will definitely be interesting to see Smeagol’s descent into darkness and compare the future pathetic version of him that we already know to the person he once was.

The Return of Legolas: 5 Ways the Elven Prince Could Contribute to The Hunt for Gollum - Main Image
A new film, The Lord of the Rings, is currently in development, and fans are already formulating theories about who will appear from the previous movies. Titled The Hunt for Gollum, the film will be directed by Gollum himself, Andy Serkis.
It is still unclear who might appear from the previous movies, but fans are sure that Aragorn will be important in hunting the creature formerly known as Smeagol.
Another figure who would likely participate in the hunt is the Prince of Mirkwood, Legolas. But what would the Elven prince's role be in the hunt?
His Abilities Are Invaluable to the Hunt
First things first, the Mirkwood Prince is possibly one of the best warriors in Middle-Earth! He makes archery look easy, and his agility allows him to keep up with the chase.

No, it's not the early 2000s. Be that as it may, not one but two "Lord of the Rings" movies found themselves comfortably in the top 10 at the box office this past weekend. Indeed, thanks to a re-release of Peter Jackson's much-beloved trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy saga by Fathom Events, both "The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Two Towers" managed to sneak past "The Strangers: Chapter 1" to make it onto the charts.
"Fellowship of the Ring" found itself at number eight over the weekend with a $2.45 million haul, just behind "The Fall Guy" ($2.59 million). Landing at number nine was "The Two Towers," which pulled in $1.9 million. Warner Bros. and Fathom released both films on just over 1,500 screens. What's more, these were the 4K remastered, extended editions of the films, meaning they clocked in at nearly four hours each. Plus, they played just once each day across the country,...

It was the year 2003 when Peter Jackson released the end of his iconic trilogy with the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. With an ensemble cast that included Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, and, countless others, the film was a spiritual experience for the people.

However, there’s some more good news. An animated film is about to release and Gollum actor Andy Serkis has nothing but praise for the film!

Late actor Bernard Hill once asked Aragorn “Where was Gondor when the Westfold fell?” and the iconic dialogue became a meme and a famous line from the franchise.

"The War of the Rohirrim" is one of our most anticipated movies of the year here at /Film. For me personally, ever since the prospect of a "Lord of the Rings" anime was announced, it's been the most exciting project set in Middle-earth, and it's not even close. When the very first early footage was shown at the 2023 Annecy Film Festival, it only made this project more exciting. Now, dear reader, I have seen about 20 minutes of the film, which is not quite done, but getting close to that point, and it left me as addicted to wanting to see more as Gollum is addicted to the One Ring.
This year's Annecy presentation started with a short video introduction by Peter Jackson, who, together with Fran Walsh, are back to executive produce the project. Jackson expressed his admiration for animators, how they brought Gollum to life, and how the medium...

In taking over directing duties on the latest Planet of the Apes feature film, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Wes Ball wanted to maintain a sense of continuity with the previous films, even though the new one takes place about three centuries later than the previous one. In order to do that, Ball turned to the man who had played (through motion capture) Caesar in the last three Apes films, Andy Serkis. Serkis, of course, is known throughout the industry as the master of motion capture acting, having done pioneering work in the field as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies. So, as Ball told us,...

Andy Serkis led a panel for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim as fans got to experience the first 20 minutes of the theatrical anime film at the Annecy Animation Festival.
Hailing from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Animation, director Kenji Kamiyama’s feature is based on a short segment from author J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and hits theaters Dec. 13. The film focuses on Hèra (voiced by Gaia Wise) — the daughter of Helm Hammerhand (Brian Cox), a notable king of Rohan — as the family attempts to protect their region from the Dunlendings.
“The fans are gonna go nuts for this,” Serkis, who is not directly involved in the film but had recently watched it, told the crowd Tuesday as he introduced the footage. “You are the first people to see this, and boy, it’s an extraordinary piece of work.”

Showrunner Eric Kripke says he suggested spots for ad breaks in the show’s fourth season, but there’s no guarantee Amazon followed his advice.
In a move that Billy Butcher would surely label diabolical, Amazon followed a unique strategy for the rollout of the ad-supported plan on its flagship streaming service Prime Video earlier this year. That new subscription tier became available in January, but unlike most other streamers who have launched ads in recent years, Prime Video decided to make it the default option and compel viewers who wanted to go ad-free to pay $2.99 per month extra to upgrade. That means that the new season of “The Boys” — which debuts on Thursday, June 13 — will be accompanied by ads for the first time in the show’s history. However, I’ll show you how to leave them behind if you want to watch the show the way you always have before,...

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is one of the most anticipated adaptations of Tolkien’s franchise without a doubt. This anime adaptation of one of Tolkien’s best stories is currently scheduled for a December 13, 2024 release, but the lucky people at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival have had the chance to actually see the first footage of the upcoming movie. We don’t know how much of it will change before the official premiere later this year, but we assume that it won’t be much, which is why the exclusive information we have from Annecy can be considered correct. So, what do we know?
In short, we can confirm that The War of the Rohirrim can indeed be considered an anime based on the production crew and staff. We can also confirm that Peter Jackson is coming back as executive producer and that...

Warner Bros. Animation, New Line Cinema and Sola Entertainment previewed 20 minutes of its upcoming anime feature “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” receiving thunderous applause during the packed presentation on Tuesday at the Annecy Animation Festival.
Director Kenji Kamiyana said he was inspired by not just J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” books, but by the films of Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, who were confirmed as exec producers of the movie during the session.
The new story is set nearly 200 years before Bilbo Baggins comes into contact with the ring of power, and centers on the House of Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan (voiced by Brian Cox), with a focus on his daughter, the strong willed Princess Héra (voiced by Gaia Wise). In the clip, a dispute erupts during a council meeting, leaving Wulf, a ruthless Dunlending lord, seeking vengeance.

Lord of the Rings Makes US Box Office Charts Comeback Following 4K Cinema Re-Release - Main Image
Lord of the Rings proved that it’s still hugely popular, enough that it reached the box office top 10 in the US this weekend. What makes this more impressive is that it achieved this feat with a limited re-release.
To be exact, the US box office top 10 chart over the weekend saw The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers in the eighth and ninth spots.
Even though it has been over two decades since the trilogy was initially released, the fact that they achieved box-office success again in a limited run might mean big things for the franchise moving forward.

Ian McKellen Teases Return As Gandalf In The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum: "If I'm Alive!"
Back in March, we got word that a new The Lord of the Rings movie is set to hit theaters in 2026, with Andy Serkis on board to direct and reprise the role of Gollum.
Original Lotr trilogy director Peter Jackson and his writing partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are also set to return as producers, and “will be involved every step of the way” according to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav.
The movie's working title is The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, which should give you a pretty good idea of what the story will focus on! The movie will likely be set shortly before the events of Jackson's trilogy.
This time period is mentioned in both Tolkien's novels and the films, with Gandalf and Aragorn attempting to track Gollum down before he falls into Sauron's hands. In the movies, the wizard says he...

Theaters will live to fight another day. “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” (Sony) provided more than half of the gross this weekend, taking #1 with $56 million. That isn’t a record for the franchise (with previous films at lower ticket prices), but it is a critical victory for the industry at a time it desperately needs them.
Will Smith’s first wide release since his catastrophic Oscar behavior in 2022 represents a triumph for star power, franchise filmmaking, action titles, and titles that draw from minority audiences (over two thirds for the weekend were Black and Latino). Most of all, it was a vital sign that underperformance for highly touted summer films isn’t a given.
In the face of rising industry panic, an under-$40 million opening for “Ride or Die” (its 2020 predecessor opened to $62 million) could have ratched the doom and despair to toxic levels. Instead, it blew past tracking projections...

That’s at least $10 million more than even the most optimistic box office predictions (we predicted way less) and a strong rebound for Will Smith, whose box office prowess has been in question ever since the infamous Oscar slap seemingly hurt his brand.
Whatever the case, audiences seemed more than willing to embrace the star again. The Bad Boys four-quel posted the franchise’s second-biggest opening, following Bad Boys For Life, which started with $62 million in 2020. While some might view that as a bit of a comedown, let’s not forget that the business in movie theatres was much healthier in the pre-pandemic days. Usually, when books like Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, and The Hunger Games are adapted, fan wisdom and the conventional thought process usually lean towards declaring the books to be better than whatever we end up seeing on screen. However, there is the odd moment, where an author comes out to say that the show or the film was able to do something better than what they had done in the book.

George R.R. Martin, in an interview, revealed that there are several things that the show did better compared to the books, especially when it came to realizing the sets that he had imagined for the epic fantasy setting of A Song of Ice and Fire.

When The Hunt for Gollum was unveiled as the next entry in the Lord of the Rings franchise, fans immediately began to speculate who – if any – of the original cast members would be returning. Andy Serkis was announced right away, of course, but that still leaves a lot of potential actors to reprise a lot of potential characters. What say you, Ian McKellen: is it time to bring back Gandalf?
Now 85, Ian McKellen said he is as in the dark about The Hunt for Gollum as pretty much every other Lord of the Rings cast member but that there is a possibility he could reprise Gandalf. Speaking with The Times, he confirmed, “There is no script, there is no offer, there is no plan.” Fair enough, but if all of that fell in line and came to be, would he accept the role? “If I’m alive.” He even...

They say that time heals all wounds, but what about the bruises that the inescapability of time itself inflicts on us?
An inspiring pipe-smoking and immensely powerful wizard, J. R. R. Tolkien’s Gandalf is an epic Lord of the Rings character who quickly asserted himself as a favorite amongst the fandom. And if there’s someone fans love more than the wise old wizard, it’s Ian McKellen – the man who portrayed him on-screen.

But as the wand of time brings about the inevitability of old age, McKellen – who is hailed for his emotionally charged performance as Gandalf – may not get to reprise the role even if he wanted to.

In the vast and intricate world of fantasy literature, only a few names resonate as profoundly as George R. R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien. Martin’s successful work on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire, which inspired the hit TV series Game of Thrones, has taken inspiration from numerous popular fantasy works, one of which also includes Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.

However, as much as he admires his work and admits that Tolkien has significantly influenced his work, Martin has also not refrained from openly sharing his criticism. However, despite his mixed feelings towards the author and his work, Martin has been humble enough to credit Tolkien for paving the way for the success of his own series.

Donald Trump is clearly many things, but one thing he’s not is a great orator, according to one of Britain’s great acting knights of the realm, Ian McKellen.
The stage and screen veteran, best known overseas for his role of Gandalf in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, told The Times of London that he found the presidential hopeful “an absolute bewilderment.” McKellen told the paper:
“I haven’t seen him live. But he’s one of the worst public speakers there has ever been. Whether he’s reading a script or not, it’s so patent what he is.”
85-year-old McKellen, currently playing Falstaff on stage in the UK, said great powers of oratory may be thing of the past:
“I remember leaving my school [in Bolton] in the sixth form and cycling down to the town square to see [1950s Welsh Labour Party politician] Aneurin Bevan on the hustings without a microphone.

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is almost back, and season 2 aims to be bigger, bolder, and darker than the first. The trailer for the upcoming season literally shows darkness spreading, as Sauron's influence grows, and his power with it. And yet, not everything is bad. Some of it is aggressively neutral, like the arrival of the whimsical Tom Bombadil, who will finally make his screen debut in season 2 of "The Rings of Power."
Now, what about the good guys? The show has mostly focused on the story of Galadriel and her haunt for Sauron following his defeat in the First Age, and the first season ended with her huge f— up after trusting totally-not-Sauron into creating the first three magic rings of power. Though we saw the creation of the first three rings, we haven't seen their bearers put them on — yet. Executive producer Lindsey Weber...

The video game industry often sees some game release that set the trend for whole genres ant archetypes of games. Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham games are the perfect example. Praised for their fresh takes on hand-to-hand combat at the time, the trilogy is still highly regarded by gamers even today.
This success had a direct impact on developers of other games and franchises. Developers such as Monolith took inspiration from this in the development of their Middle Earth games. Including Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War.

The 2024 Fantasia Film Festival will open with a world premiere for Bookworm, the Elijah Wood and Nell Fisher starrer from New Zealand filmmaker Ant Timpson.
The indie reteams Wood with Come to Daddy director Timpson and saw the Lord of the Rings actor return to New Zealand for production. In Bookworm, Fisher plays a 12-year-old girl whose life is turned upside down when her long-absent American magician father (Wood) comes to look after her, and together they take an ill-advised camping trip into the rugged New Zealand wilderness to find a mythological beast that leads to increasingly absurd and treacherous adventures.
Among other new titles added to the lineup for Fantasia’s 28th edition are world bows for Alexander J. Farrell’s The Beast Within, starring Kit Harrington; Isaac Ezban’s dystopian coming-of-age tale Parvulos; and Vivieno Caldinelli’s Scared Shitless, starring Steven Ogg and Daniel Doheny.

During the first season of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, we were introduced to a mysterious new villain known as Adar, and the character's backstory turned out to be one of the most intriguing aspects of the show.
"Adar" is the Sindarin word for father, and we'd soon learn that the Orcs saw their leader as more of a paternal figure. J.R.R. Tolkien's original history of Middle Earth claimed that Morgoth captured some Elves right after their "awakening" and used dark magic and other twisted means to create a new form of life that would be loyal only to him.
During a conversation with Galadriel, Adar admits that he was indeed one of the first Elves, or "Moriondor," taken by Melkor and transformed into one of the first Orcs.

Die deutsche Serie „Maxton Hall“ war bislang das erfolgreichste nicht-amerikanische Original von Prime Video, wenn es um die erste Auswertungswoche geht.
