Before announcing the title of the third installment of his "Knives Out" series, writer/director Rian Johnson took to social media to say, "I love everything about whodunits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is." He continued by noting there's a "whole tonal spectrum from [John Dickson] Carr to [Agatha] Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies." He also indicated that the title will give a "little hint" of where this next installment is going.
"Knives Out" is a reference to a Radiohead song, "Glass Onion" is, of course, The Beatles, and the upcoming third film, "Wake Up Dead Man," is a song by U2. With all of these titles serving as references to some of the greatest musicians to ever do it, and Johnson's use of "tonal spectrum" and "range" while describing a "malleable" genre,...

Alan Cumming isn’t much of a reality TV fan — so as host of Peacock’s “The Traitors,” he enjoys being a bit blind to the baggage that many of the contestants carry to the Scottish Highlands.
“When I go to do ‘The Traitors, I have a crash course in reality TV stars, and random people,” he tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. “I don’t know who many of the people are. Because I juust don’t watch those shows. And actually I quite like it, just to meet the people on those their own terms — rather than that with all the history they bring.”
Cumming much prefers watching them plot and scheme inside the game of “The Traitors,” vs whatever it is they do on the “Real Housewives” and its ilk. “I think that the culture of these shows is very much about creating drama,” he says. “The structures are the same,...

I hope you're happy, "Wicked" fans. The "Wizard of Oz" musical, itself based on the fanciful, world building-dense Gregory Maguire novel that re-imagines the characters and stories from L. Frank Baum's "Oz" books, has been slow to make the leap from stage to screen. On the way, it also went from a single film to two, which is a bit disconcerting for a work that clocks in at a tightly-paced two and a half hours in its original form. The movie features new songs and script material by returning "Wicked" lyricist Stephen Schwartz and writer Winnie Holzman, but will that be enough to justify the split? Or should we be concerned that something bad is happening in Oz?
(Also yes, for those who are wondering, I will be making "Wicked" puns for the rest of this article because I'm nothing if not committed to the bit.)

Challengers and The Fall Guy prove that the movie star is still alive – and can make a huge difference to a film’s success. A few thoughts…
The movie star is dead. Or at least our idea of stardom may have drastically changed. After streaming has become a credible rival to cinemas, it’s not so much star power that necessarily gets people to spend their hard-earned money on a movie ticket. Sure, the Swifties ran to the cinemas to watch The Eras Tour, but Taylor Swift is hardly a movie star, despite her turn in Cats.
Ana De Armas blames social media for the lack of movie stars. “I feel like the new generations don’t have that concept, because of social media,” de Armas told Vanity Fair in 2023. “There is so much information out there and oversharing. The concept of a movie star is someone untouchable you only see onscreen.

There are some pets out there in the world that are worth more money than most people will ever see in their lifetime.
A recent report has revealed the 10 richest pets in the world, including several that are the beloved companions of celebs like Taylor Swift and Oprah Winfrey.
Some of the pets are on the list thanks to inheriting big wealth while others have worked for their fortune through social media fame and other ventures.
All About Cats says that Taylor‘s cat Olivia “has found success outside of the world of Instagram influencing. The Scottish fold earned her fortune starring alongside her owner in several music videos, has crafted her own merchandise line, and has had cameos in many big-budget ads.”

Throughout her illustrious run in the realm of music, Taylor Swift has cemented herself as one of, if not the biggest pop icon of the 21st century and has amassed an enormous following. But like every massive fandom, a part of the Swifties community is toxic as well, who often go out of their way to retaliate against anyone who dares to speak ill of the Cats star.
Michael J. Fox, whose opinion of Swift has changed drastically over the years, once found himself amidst heavy fire from the Swifties in 2013 following his initial remarks on the pop icon.

Shawn Levy, the director of the long-awaited introduction of Fox’s mutants into the MCU, addressed rumors that music artist Taylor Swift would be making a cameo as Dazzler. It’s not as off the walls as it sounds since Swift did have a role in that terrible Cats movie. This would be a much more welcome guest appearance by far.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Levy responded to the Taylor Swift-related inquiry with a non-answer, sadly:
“I can’t even believe that you would dare ask me a question that you know I can’t answer. You know I can’t answer. All of America knows I can’t answer that. I will say, as I said earlier here at CinemaCon, the proliferation of rumors about who is and isn’t in this movie is fabulous. Because no one will ever know the truth until July 26th.”

Based on the book by Gregory Maguire, the hit Broadway stage musical "Wicked" opened on October 30, 2003, at the Gershwin Theatre, and has been running there ever since. It recently surpassed "Cats" to become the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history, although it has a long way to go to supplant "The Lion King" as the third-longest. The musical is a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz," depicting the Wicked Witch of the West as a young green-skinned woman named Elphaba whose reputation has been wildly misunderstood. The show won three Tonys upon its release, and the accompanying soundtrack album won an Emmy. One might say that "Wicked" is very ... Popular.
The musical only runs about two hours and 30 minutes (with intermission), but that runtime hasn't stopped director Jon M. Chu from adapting "Wicked" into a massive, two-film epic. "Wicked: Part One" is due in theaters on November 27, 2024, while "Wicked: Part Two...

The musical fantasy film Cats, released in 2019, turned out to be a box-office bomb despite the big names attached to it. To start with, the movie was based on American composer and impresario of musical theatre, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s eponymous Broadway musical.
A still from Cats
Webber’s Broadway musical Cats has impressed millions of fans over the years. However, the movie adaptation failed to bring the same magic to the screens and became a huge disappointment for the composer. So much so, that it led to the impresario buying a dog just to live with the trauma of having his musical butchered for the screens.

"Wicked" began its life as a playful, lore-rich 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire, which imagined deep backstories and complex relationships between the characters from "The Wizard of Oz." By Maguire's imagining, the green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West was merely misunderstood and marginalized. In 2003, lyricist Stephen Schwartz and dramatist Winnie Holzman adapted Maguire's novel into a Broadway musical that almost instantly became a runaway hit. "Wicked" won three Tonys, and had since set up camp on Broadway, becoming one of the longest-running shows in the history of the Great White Way. As of this writing, "Wicked" has surpassed "Cats" in number of performances.

The Broadway musical Wicked will be getting its cinematic adaptation this year. The musical has been divided into two parts, with Part One set to be released on November 27, 2024. It stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the lead roles, playing Galinda Upland and Elphaba Thropp respectively. The story acts as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz.
Director Jon M. Chu mentioned that the actresses got along really well on set. He said that he chose to not depend on excessive CGI and wanted actual sets. Chu also said that the two were extremely committed to their roles, with the actresses going as far as delivering live vocals while filming instead of the usual practice of lip-syncing to pre-recorded songs.

Talk about loyalty.
Betty Buckley has been staying at the Chateau Marmont for about 50 years. She first checked in when she was filming her big screen debut as gym teacher Miss Collins in “Carrie” and then when she landed the role of Abby Bradford, Dick Van Patten’s new wife and stepmother to his kids in ABC’s 1970s family comedy-drama “Eight Is Enough.”
After half a century calling the Chateau her Los Angeles home — she lives full-time at a ranch outside of Fort Worth, Texas — Buckley has a lot of stories.

Audiences are shunning the new Spider-Man spin-off. Even its star hasn’t seen it. But that hasn’t stopped her putting both feet in her mouth about it
To call Madame Web’s release a disaster would be a wild understatement. Not since Cats has a movie inspired such a combination of terrible reviews and consumer apathy.
The miserable box office performance – by some distance, it has the lowest-grossing opening weekend of any Spidey-adjacent movie made this century – has killed off a potential franchise at birth. It has damaged the careers of anyone who happened to stray near it. It is doomed, always and for ever, to be a Hollywood punchline.

Super Bowl Sunday always has a little something for everyone, but this year's big game in Las Vegas went above and beyond in the razzle-dazzle department.
We were, of course, prepared for a celebrity-crammed spectacle due to the luxury booth presence of Travis Kelce's substantially famous girlfriend, but this gridiron rematch between last year's combatants, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, brought out more than just arguably the most famous pop star on the planet. The only pop star in that aforementioned argument, Beyoncé, was there with her hip-hop god husband Jay-Z! The world's greatest basketball player, LeBron James, flew in from Los Angeles for the contest! And Paul freakin' Rudd, sporting a bushy freakin' mustache that would've driven Avery Schreiber into a jealous rage, prowled the sidelines pre-game in support of his hometown Chiefs!
But if we're talking true, earth-shaking, knock-you-on-your-keister fame, let there be...

This article contains full spoilers for Argylle.
Early in the Matthew Vaughn spy thriller/comedy Argylle, actual secret agent Aiden (Sam Rockwell) needs to calm writer of secret agents Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard). Aiden leans in and calmly tells a story about a mission that required him to scale a tremendous height. Rather than look down, Aiden explains, you just have to look at what’s ahead. “What’s right in front of you, Elly?” he asks, staring directly at the camera.
Argylle might not have the same bratty sense of humor that marked Kick-Ass or Kingsman: The Secret Service, but audiences might feel that Vaughn is trolling them in that scene. For months now, trailers for Argylle have teased an amazing twist, suggesting that the real Agent Argylle is something special, something they are not going to want to miss.
But you would have to be really inattentive to miss the reveal.

“10 Lives,” an animated comedy set to premiere at Sundance, tells the story of a pampered cat called Beckett (voiced by British comedian Mo Gilligan) who undergoes a series of transformations – both physical and emotional – while learning a lesson about love.
The all-star cast includes “Bridgerton’s” Simone Ashley, “Love, Actually” star Bill Nighy and One Direction heartthrob Zayn Malik in his first feature film speaking role. Malik is also credited as executive music producer, writing some new tracks for the film, including a duet with Ashley.
Ahead of its festival debut, Jenkins sat down with Variety to talk about going to Sundance, working with Malik and how he sidestepped making a “butthole cut” (featuring animated cat anuses as the controversial “Cats” movie reportedly did before eventually scrapping that version) of the movie.
How did you come onto this project?

“Wonka” has crossed a sweet box office milestone. The fantasy musical, starring Timothée Chalamet as the eccentric chocolatier, surpassed $500 million in global ticket sales.
After five weeks on the big screen, “Wonka” has generated $176.2 million domestically and $329.1 million internationally, bringing its global tally to $505.3 million. Warner Bros. backed the film, which cost $125 million and has proven to be a worthy revisit to the world of pure imagination.
Chalamet’s star power, having endeared himself to moviegoers through blockbusters (“Dune”) and indies, has played a part in the triumph of “Wonka.” Of course, the movie also has the benefit of brand recognition from Roald Dahl’s seminal novel “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” as well as the 1971 film adaptation with Gene Wilder and the 2005 reboot starring Johnny Depp. But at a time when family audiences (the film’s target demographic) have been picky about what they’re willing to pay to see on the big screen,...

A Golden Globes win could break Taylor Swift‘s losing streak at the annual Hollywood awards show. However, she could also make history, kicking off a new category for the 81-year-old industry mainstay.
Taylor Swift could kick off 2024 with a big win
This year, Taylor Swift was nominated at the Golden Globes for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement for her record-breaking The Eras Tour film. If the famous singer and songwriter takes home the globe, she will be the first-ever winner of the new category.
The Eras Tour film was nominated alongside Barbie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, John Wick: Chapter 4, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One, Oppenheimer, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Barbie is favored to win, making the most money overall, with a $600 million gross at the domestic box office and more than $1.4 billion worldwide. However, The Eras Tour historically...

Taylor Swift has become a mainstay at Kansas City Chiefs games, watching her boyfriend, tight end Travis Kelce, play games both home and away. She’s been Kelce’s main cheering squad during her winter break from her record-breaking The Eras Tour, but she isn’t watching him during tonight’s Chiefs game against The Los Angeles Chargers. Here’s why.
The real reason why Taylor Swift isn’t watching The Kansas City Chiefs take on The LA Chargers
Travis Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs team plays the LA Chargers at SoFi Stadium. The game airs on CBS just before the 81st Golden Globes awards.
Per Page Six, sources reveal that Taylor Swift will instead, attend the Golden Globes Awards. She is nominated in the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category for her feature concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.

The year of Taylor Swift may not be over with the ringing in of the new year. Right now it looks like it’ll continue well into 2024, not only at the Grammys, where she’s a six-time nominee, but at the Golden Globes, where she could win her first trophy on her fifth career nomination. She could win the brand new category for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement for her record-breaking “Eras Tour” movie.
SEEGold Derby Music Awards nominations: ‘Barbie,’ Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, …
Swift was previously nominated for four Golden Globes, all for Best Original Song: “Safe and Sound” from “The Hunger Games” (2012), “Sweeter Than Fiction” from “One Chance” (2013), “Beautiful Ghosts” from “Cats” (2019) and “Carolina” from “Where the Crawdads Sing” (2022). She didn’t win any of those, but it’s a testament to how especially well liked she has been by these awards since none of those Globe noms translated to Oscar noms.

Being on Broadway wasn’t one of the goals Nicole Scherzinger set when she was listing off her dreams on the Pussycat Dolls single “When I Grow Up,” but the fame-hungry song is a perfect companion to her latest achievement. When Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard heads to New York from London’s West End, Scherzinger will make her Broadway debut in the lead role as Norma Desmond.

Anderson Cooper had an uncontrollable laughing fit during CNN‘s New Year’s Live special on Sunday night (December 31) when multi-time Grammy winner John Mayer called in from an unexpected location. During the annual broadcast, Cooper and his long-time co-host Andy Cohen linked up with Mayer via video call, with Cohen noting that the singer-songwriter is currently on tour performing in Japan. The video then popped up on the screen, showing Mayer at a car bar in Tokyo. The giggling started almost immediately as Cooper saw the parade of cats sauntering on the bar behind Mayer. “John, this doesn’t look sanitary,” Cohen said as a pair of felines licked each other in the background. “You know, I believe it passes all health codes, so I think it’s just fine,” Mayer replied. “But, yes, we are at a cat bar, it’s called Cats in the Box, in Tokyo,...

A nearly unrecognizable Sofia Vergara playing a cartel boss, a new retelling of the story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed in the Andes in 1972, Kevin Hart assembling a team for a daring heist and Dan Levy dealing with loss and grief are among the standout projects hitting Netflix this January.
Spanish director J.A. Bayona’s Society of the Snow lands on Netflix on Jan. 4. The film is the latest cinematic retelling of the miraculous story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crash-landed on a glacier in the heart of the Andes in 1972, with the survivors being forced to resort to extreme measures to stay alive. After debuting in Venice, Society of the Snow has picked up plenty of awards on the international film festival circuit, and it recently made the shortlists in four categories for the 2024 Academy Awards, including best international feature film.

It’s a quiet month on Netflix in January, but the streamer still has some good stuff lined up for the new year, including an interesting documentary about the Centra Tech cryptocurrency scam. Bitconned arrives on the first of the month alongside Netflix’s latest Harlan Coben adaptation, Fool Me Once, which sees an ex-soldier called Maya witness her husband’s murder on a nanny cam. The crime then leads her down a deadly path where she uncovers a deadly conspiracy.
Schitt’s Creek star Daniel Levy will also debut his first film as writer and director with Good Grief on Netflix this month. The movie follows Levy’s character Marc as he does some soul-searching after the death of his husband.

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is quickly sinking at the box office.
The comic book adventure, starring Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis, was positioned on the calendar as the de facto blockbuster of the holiday season. But, so far, the follow-up to 2018’s megahit “Aquaman” has failed to recapture the spark of the original. The $205 million-budgeted tentpole caps off 2023, a terrible year for superhero movies, as the fourth consecutive flop for Warner Bros. and DC Studios following “The Flash,” “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and “Blue Beetle.”
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” swam to second place in its sophomore outing, collecting a soft $19.5 million over the weekend and an estimated $26 million through New Year’s Day on Monday. It has grossed $84 million domestically and $258 million globally after two weeks of release, on par with eventual comic book disappointments like “The Flash,” “The Marvels” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

“The Color Purple” added $7.1 million on Tuesday, bringing its domestic box office tally to an impressive $25 million after two days of release.
The Warner Bros. film, an adaptation of the book-turned-beloved-movie-turned-hit-Broadway-musical, opened in theaters on Monday. It nearly set a holiday record with $18 million, marking the largest Christmas Day opening for a movie since 2009 and the second-biggest Christmas Day opening of all time.
Blitz Bazawule directed “The Color Purple,” which is off to an encouraging start for a musical. Stage-to-screen adaptations have a spotty (at best) track record, with recent attempts like Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” remake, “In the Heights,” “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Cats” failing to resonate at the box office. But it cost $100 million, so “The Color Purple” needs to remain the de facto choice for families through the new year in order to turn a profit. “The Color Purple,” a vibrant adaptation of the book-turned-beloved-movie-turned-hit-Broadway-musical, dominated at the box office on Christmas Day.
The film has outperformed expectations with $18 million from 3,152 North American theaters. It’s the largest Christmas Day opening for a film since 2009, and the second-biggest Christmas Day opening of all time.
Those ticket sales were enough to lead the way on Monday ahead of two other newcomers, Neon’s racing drama “Ferrari” and director George Clooney’s inspirational sports story “The Boys in the Boat.” Warner Bros. impressively held the top three spots on domestic charts as “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” and “Wonka” swam to second and third place, respectively.
Boosted by positive reviews and a glowing “A” CinemaScore, “The Color Purple” marks the first musical in some time that’s resonated at the box office. The film, backed by Warner Bros. and directed by Blitz Bazawule, collected more in a single...

Alice Walker started the phenomenon with her Pulitzer-winning 1982 book, and three years later Steven Spielberg turned it into a movie that got 11 Oscar nominations. In 2005, it took on new life as a Broadway musical, and in 2015 that musical got a Tony- and Grammy-winning revival.
Along the way it made big film and stage stars out of Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey, Cynthia Erivo, Danielle Brooks and Fantasia Barrino, the latter now making her feature starring debut as Celie in the new film version of the musical she led 18 years ago on Broadway. The Color Purple is indestructible, and that is also a good word to describe director Blitz Bazawule’s and screenwriter Marcus Gardley’s take that breathes exciting life into the story for new and older generations but also, to quote an original song from this film, really finds a way to “Keep It Movin’.”

Christmas box office isn’t what it used to be. Before the year’s end, we’ll see eight new wide releases but none are likely to reach the heights of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($805 million domestic) or 2022 “Avatar: The Way of Water” ($685 million).
The musical “The Color Purple” (Warner Bros.), Sony’s romance “Anyone but You,” Universal’s animated “Migration,” and Amazon MGM’s “The Boys in the Boat” could rise to decent levels. “Migration” is projected to be the next highest grosser, with “Anyone” a sleeper. There’s also A24’s “The Iron Claw” and Neon’s “Ferrari.”
However, Warner Bros. has two films on which theaters pin their highest hopes: “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” — and most of all, “Wonka.” It’s the third Warners feature based on the Willy Wonka character, but with previous iterations separated by decades it’s never been a franchise.

Let's all celebrate an underappreciated character in "Star Wars: Episode VI -- Return of the Jedi." That character is Oola (Femi Taylor), the enslaved Twi'lek dancer working for crime boss Jabba the Hutt. While my own headcanon says she could have escaped after being thrown into the rancor pit since we didn't actually see her die, she didn't have an easy time while living and entertaining under duress at Jabba's palace.
As it turns out, the dancing wasn't easy for Taylor either. She's a wonderful performer who was a dancer in the musical "Cats" in London and in the 1998 TV movie of the play. She was even asked back to film new scenes for the "Return of the Jedi" special edition, including some time in the rancor pit. (It's best not to think about how she had to deal with the CGI song performed in the special edition.) Taylor...

It’s not often that a Hollywood premiere is met with continual cheers, gasps, tears and several rounds of applause during its screening, but that was Warner Bros.’ The Color Purple‘s force of nature at the David Geffen Academy Museum Theater Wednesday night.
The feature take of the 2005 Broadway musical, which in and of itself is an adaptation of the 1982 Alice Walker novel and Steven Spielberg’s 1985 11x Oscar nominated movie, could change the tune of musicals at the box office when it opens on Christmas Day. There are a multitude of ways to incorporate characters singing on screen in a film. Traditionally, the actors record the tracks separately from their on-set line delivery and lip-sync during the actual filming, as shown with Ryan Gosling and his army of Kens in Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" movie for "I'm Just Ken." But every once in a while, a filmmaker will elect to record the raw, on-set delivery of a vocal performance. Director Tom Hooper took this route with both "Les Miserables" and "Cats," with ... one turning out infinitely better than the other. There are pros and cons to both approaches, but the second option is exponentially riskier. And yet, "Hunger Games" franchise director Francis Lawrence went that route on "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" with star Rachel Zegler's performance as Lucy Gray Baird.
In the book as well as in the movie, Lucy Gray Baird is a performer.

Netflix reportedly paid more than $1 billion for the right to stream all the new Sony movies from 2022-26. And so far, it looks like Netflix overpaid by a mile. We’ll detail the lackluster output in a moment, but first, let’s focus on the next Sony bomb on its way. Behold the trailer for “Madame Web.”
Yes, this actually includes a real human saying, “He was in the Amazon with my Mom when she was researching spiders right before she died.”
On your internet forum of choice, you’ll find unanimous scorn about this trailer. It’s a level of mockery we haven’t seen since the trailers for “Cats” or the terrifying first version of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” teaser. In an era of overwhelming superhero fatigue, “Madame Web” almost looks like it was made to out-flop “The Flash.”

“The Walking Dead” actor Tom Payne and Broadway veteran Betty Buckley have joined the cast of Blumhouse’s next movie “Imaginary,” a horror-thriller led by DeWanda Wise.
Taegen Burns (“The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”), Pyper Braun (“Desperation Road”), Matthew Sato (“High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”) and Veronica Falcón (“Jungle Cruise”) will round out the cast.
Lionsgate is releasing the film on March 8, 2024. It wrapped production before the writers’ and actors’ strikes — so it will arrive in theaters as planned, unlike several projects that were forced to pause for months on end.
“Imaginary” was directed by Jeff Wadlow from a script he co-wrote with Greg Erb and Jason Oremland. The story centers on Jessica (Wise), who moves back into her childhood home with her family. When her stepdaughter Alice (Braun) develops a concerning attachment to the stuffed bear, Chauncey, she finds in the basement, Jessica becomes concerned with the young girl’s behavior.

How a John Lennon Song Inspired Lana Del Rey’s ‘Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’
Lana Del Rey was inspired by a song John Lennon produced for another rock star. John was a big part of this rock star’s marketing campaign. Del Rey’s tune was also inspired by an interesting place in Long Beach.
Lana Del Rey once listened to many songs by an artist John Lennon produced
John produced Harry Nilsson’s album Pussy Cats. That record includes several covers of popular 1960s songs as well as new compositions by Nilsson, such as “Don’t Forget Me.” The cover of Pussy Cats depicts both Nilsson and John. It’s unusual for a producer to appear on an album cover, but when the producer is a former Beatle, it might be a good idea to advertise his involvement.

John Lennon and Harry Nilsson weren’t just friends: they were collaborators. They made a whole album together that includes a mix of classic cover songs and original compositions. Afterward, John was asked if he was influenced by Nilsson in any way. Regardless of what he said, the album the two made together has endured and still influences modern singers.
John Lennon and Harry Nilsson put their own spin on tracks by Bob Dylan and Bill Haley
John produced Nilsson’s record Pussy Cats. The cover of the record depicts the two rockers as anthropomorphic kittens. With Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour pulling in the big bucks this weekend, we wanted to know what movie featuring the singer/ songwriter/ actress/ football fan is your favorite? The interesting thing is that none of the movies with Swift in them have been critical hits. The Lorax represents the biggest critical hit at 54% on Rotten Tomatoes while The Giver represents her best live action effort at just 35%. We are keeping this poll strictly to her narrative movies and not any of her music related content so you will have to decide if her lovelorn cheerleader from Valentines Day was your favorite or her more adult turn in David O’Russel’s Amsterdam is more your cup of tea.

Numbers have begun rolling in and it is a Taylor Swift kind of weekend with the singers Eras Tour looking to pull in between $92-$105 million per Deadline. That number comes from a $39 million Friday, although that number is unofficial as the official Friday numbers haven’t been released yet. If that $39 million number sticks, it will represent the second largest October Friday gross ever, just behind Joker’s $39.3. If I was a betting man, I’d say Swift will claim that record as well as the all time October opening weekend record which currently sits with Joker at $96.2 million.
This number represents the best opening for a movie featuring Taylor Swift, beating out such classics as Amsterdam, Cats, The Giver and Valentines Day. That number also beats out Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’s lifetime gross of just over $99 million worldwide

“When will Taylor Swift’s film career take off?” has been a question lurking in the back of a lot of people’s minds ever since she started getting her feet wet with bit parts in “The Giver” and “Valentine’s Day” … and then further limited herself to keeping her toes damp with “Cats” and “Amsterdam” cameos. But do we finally have an answer to that question now, or what? Nobody should suppose that “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” doesn’t count as establishing her as a movie star, just because it’s a straightforward rendering of an ongoing concert tour that’s soon to become the most successful in history. It’s 2 hours and 45 minutes of nearly nonstop acting, writ large for the back row of SoFi Stadium and, now, Imax and Dolby. What she might do with lengthy dialogue passages someday remains to be seen, but she’s...

After roughly five months off the air due to the WGA strike, John Oliver had a whole lot of news to catch up on during his first new episode of “Last Week Tonight” on Sunday, and while he opted to do a bit of a speed run, the Emmy-winning host got a bit hung up on congresswoman Lauren Boebert.
To kick off the show, Oliver first homed in on Senator John Kennedy’s reading of an explicit part of “All Boys Aren’t Blue” during a book-banning Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, marveling at the seriousness Kennedy maintained while doing so.
“Look, I know you might be wondering what are they going to talk about when they come back? What is so important that it has to be the first thing they bring up? Well, it’s this!” Oliver joked. “Since the moment the phrase ‘strap-on harness’ careened out of Senator Foghorn Leghorn’s mouth,...

John Oliver had a lot of news to catch up on in Sunday’s Last Week Tonight — five months, in fact.
During the first 15 minutes or so of his first show back since the Writers Guild of America strike ended, he blazed through the biggest news stories that happened during the 148-day strike.
“I’d have loved to have covered all of these stories back when they originally happened,” he said after recapping the news. ” I wish so much I could have told you these jokes at the time, but I couldn’t because our writers, the people who wrote those jokes, were forced to strike for a fair contract for the last five months. And it was an immensely difficult time, not just for them but for everyone else working on this show and many others who could no longer do their jobs. And to be clear, this strike happened for good reasons.
