Now that we know to expect the final trailer for Justice League this coming Sunday, it’s probably safe to say that we’ll all be waiting on pins and needles to see more footage culled from the big screen debut of DC’s premier superhero team. Thankfully, Warner Bros. have found a way to tide us over. Well, that is if you happen to be in the New York area.
So, if you are in that locale and dig these characters, then we highly recommend that you find your way to the At&T store located at 3 Times Square on October 5-8. In short, you’ll get to see various items from the major motion picture firsthand, in addition to a sweet looking new banner (pictured below) that again reads “You can’t save the world alone.” And, believe me, I’ve tried. It’s not easy.
But, in case you’re wondering,...

You remember Voltron, right? Just in case you're not quite as ancient as I am, it was a cartoon about a bunch of astronauts flying around in color-coded space-lions, who then combined to form one giant robot named Voltron. And yes, it was just as awesome as it sounds. Now Netflix have teamed up with Dreamworks Animation for a brand new animated series titled Voltron: Legendary Defender, and we have the first full trailer and updated cast/character list below. • Princess Allura – Kimberly Brooks (Ben 10: Omniverse, Justice League: War) • Coran, the chief advisor to the princess – Rhys Darby (What We Do in the Shadows, Flight of the Conchords) • Shiro, Black Lion pilot – Josh Keaton (Green Lantern: The Animated Series, Transformers Prime) • Hunk, Yellow Lion pilot – Tyler Labine (Reaper, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) • Lance, Blue Lion pilot – Jeremy Shada (Finn in Adventure Time, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) • Pidge,...

Morning all, lovely weather out today. Birds are singing, coffee in my cup, and just Voltron! So awhile ago I wrote up a story about the new Netflix series Voltron Legendary Defender and there was a fair bit of excitement too cause giant machines combining to for even more giant robots is kind of my thing. I had a high praise for the voice cast, animation style, and mecha design which while different held a standard of tradition that would help keep the purist fans happy. Well this morning we got the first trailer so watch that and my rambling fanboy praise will continue afterwards.
Okay so I no longer need any more info and demand immediate access to this right now. Now let me say that there seems to be an addition to the team and we’ll go into that in a second. But the voice acting seems...

Last week I tore DC Entertainment a new bum-port over their recent efforts to entertain the masses. If you didn’t read it, let me sum it up for you.
I was, and I still am, butthurt over how terrible Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Martha as well as Justice League: War! Huh! Good-God. What is it good for? Absolutely Nothing! But I digress.
As I’d been buried in freelance work this past week, I’ve found that firing up Netflix on my second screen helps me focus. Headphone blaring quality programming on demand whilst I graphic design my way out of the hole I dug has been very fruitful as of late. I was able to binge-lance my way through season 4 of House of Cards, rewatch the first season of Better Caul Saul, rewatch the entirety of Breaking Bad (because, how could I not?), and watch the...

Dear DC Entertainment,
I quit. I’m out. I’m done. This past week I’ve paid actual money I earned to view Batman v. Superman, as well as Justice League: War (on Netflix. And yes, I know that’s not new, but it’s still new enough to count). I freely admit my expectations were low. Lower than low in fact. I was hoping for some decent visual effects, maybe a few more jokes since the last time, and I prayed for some semblance of lessons learned from Marvel.
I got none of it.
Instead, you produced 2 ½ hours of angst, rain, punching, and death. And then you took your New52 Justice League comic series and ran it through the wringer in order to produce it as an animated adventure designed solely to appeal to 13-year old bitter tweens. You’ve sullied both mediums so egregiously that I’m honestly...

Justice League Vs. Teen Titans is Warner Brothers' other versus film coming out this March. During last weekend's WonderCon I had a chance to see an advanced screening of the animated movie that's in the same cineverse as films like Son of Batman and Justice League: War.
If you've seen those previous films then your expectations should be perfectly dialed in for what the tone, quality of animation, and voice acting will be like. That said, Justice League Vs. Teen Titans feels pretty safe in terms of story. While solidly told, it's not mind blowing for a team "origin" story. The story is so simple giving a summary would give away too much (so sorry for the short review).
The Teen Titans comprise Raven, Blue Beetle, and Beast Boy. They're appropriately awkward and overpowered, which keeps their showdown with members of The Justice League from ending quickly. Starfire is the...

Friday, March 25, 2016 – Live from the packed WonderCon 2016 Voltron panel, executive Producer Joaquim Dos Santos (The Legend of Korra, Avatar: The Last Airbender), Co-Executive Producer Lauren Montgomery (The Legend of Korra), and writer Tim Hedrick (The Legend of Korra, Avatar: The Last Airbender) sat alongside newly unveiled cast members to showcase never-before-seen artwork and footage of DreamWorks Animation’s all-new Netflix Original Series Voltron: Legendary Defender, debuting June 10, 2016.
Dos Santos shared “As children of the 80’s who grew up with Voltron what was there not to love? You had 5 awesome lions, piloted by 5 awesome heroes who combined to form a giant, sword wielding Titan! It unapologetically married Sci-fi and Fantasy in one incredibly over the top, bombastic package. Fans of the new series [Voltron: Legendary defender] can look for us to keep all those elements but also expect a much more fleshed out universe with a rich backstory and characters who will evolve over the course of the series.

Since the mid-2000s, DC Entertainment has been absolutely killing it in film animation. Contrasting the more kid-friendly cartoon series that the company has produced since the conclusion of its highly popular DC Animated Universe, the animated films have, mostly, taken on a much darker tone that have allowed for the exploration of more adult storylines and content than television would allow. These films, dubbed “DC Universe Animated Original Movies,” stood outside of any established continuity from the outset, and no two films were connected in any real way. That all changed with the 2014 release of Justice League: War, which, after

Marvel Studios may currently be considered the king when it comes to live-action comic book movies, but it's DC Comics that has been leading the way in the animated world for years. Now the first trailer for their latest, Batman vs. Robin has arrived and you can watch it below! Partially based on the Court of Owls storyline that was featured in Batman comics that began with DC's New 52 relaunch, Batman vs. Robin is the continuation of the larger animated continuity/shared universe that began with the release of Justice League: War early last year. As you may be able to tell watching the trailer (which comes to us courtesy of IGN) the titular Robin in this case is Damian Wayne - Batman's son with Talia al Ghul - and he'll be going head-to-head with his father. As we've seen in other recent shared universe DC animated movies, the new...

The newest DC Universe Animated Original Movie, Batman: Assault on Arkham, hit digital release last week and will arrive on home video on August 12th, 2014, and with it came a great look at the next animated feature, the Aquaman-centric Justice League: Throne of Atlantis.
Throne of Atlantis will serve as a direct sequel to last year’s Justice League: War, and tells the story of Atlantean villain Ocean Master, Aquaman’s half-brother Orm, who declares war on the surface dwellers after his king is killed following an alien invasion. Based loosely on the New 52 story arc written by DC Comics’ chief creative officer Geoff Johns, Throne of Atlantis focuses on a young Arthur Curry, who discovers his Atlantean heritage and, from the looks of it, must team up with the Justice League to bring Orm down.

After decades of being the laughing stock of the DC Comics universe, Aquaman is finally getting the chance to shine in his own DC animated feature, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis. Hardcore comic book fans have known for some time that there’s more to Aquaman than meets the eye, but general audiences still have a poor perception of the King of Atlantis.
The orange and green tights and ability to talk to fish haven’t really helped him much, but hopefully this iteration of his New 52 revamp will get people excited for his appearance in the burgeoning live-action DC cinematic universe (beginning, of course, with a small cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice).

First teased at the end of this year's Justice League: War, the next DC animated film Justice League: Throne of Atlantis will adapt the crossover comic series by Geoff Johns that sees Aquaman going toe-to-toe with his fellow superheroes. Warner Bros. Animation (via TV Guide) has debuted the first official image from the film which features the King of Atlantis himself. Check it out below!

Throne of Atlantis — to be released early next year on DVD, Blu-ray and for digital download and on demand — adapts a comic arc that pits the undersea nation of Atlantis against the surface world. Unlike the comic, the movie will focus on how young Arthur Curry discovers his aquatic heritage. Raised by his human father, when the movie begins he doesn't know that he is the heir to the throne of the watery kingdom. Aquaman will be voiced by 90210's Matt Lanter, and he'll be joined by many of the Justice League: War cast including Jason O'Mara (Batman), Shemar Moore (Cyborg), Christopher Gorham (the Flash), Sean Astin (Shazam). Plus, Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern), Rosario Dawson (Wonder Woman), Jerry O'Connell (Superman), Sam Witwer (Orm), and Sumalee Montano (Meera).

Based on designs of the much anticipated Justice League: Throne of Atlantis animated movie comes the next wave of action figures from DC Collectibles! We'll find out a lot more about Justice League: Throne of Atlantis during the San Diego Comic-Con, but the title alone reveals that DC's main superhero team will play a major role in what has previously been described as an origin story for Aquaman in the rebooted animated universe. It makes sense that Warner Bros. are marketing it this way (especially after the success of Justice League: War) as there's still something of a stigma around the character which could have led to a lot less interest from the casual fans had he been the focus. Regardless, what do you guys think of the new looks for Aquaman, Mera, Ocean Master and Black Manta? Sound off below!

The DC Universe Animated Original Movies line has delivered some absolutely terrific comic book adaptations (Jay Oliva’s two-part Batman: The Dark Knight Returns comes to mind), and also some thoroughly mediocre ones (like most of the Superman entries). It’s impressive how much work goes into animating these direct-to-video titles, but a fair share of them have been unfortunately sidetracked by stilted voice acting and weak writing.
Son of Batman, which loosely adapts Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert’s “Batman and Son” arc, is far from the worst of the Dcu Animated titles, though that’s probably the highest praise I can give it. While the animation is damn-near flawless, and the voice acting is mostly above average, this tonally dissonant offering ends up taking on more story than it can handle.

The DC Universe Original movies keep coming, and there are a few changes as they move forward. Starting with “Justice League: War” there is now a continuity being formed. Using the New 52 Universe or the DCnU (DCnewUniverse) as a basis coming out of the “Flashpoint” storyline, “War” was the beginning of a new cohesive universe for the animated films (with the exception of the upcoming “Assault on Arkham” which is set in the Arkham game universe). “Son of Batman” is the 19th animated film, and the first to take place in this new continuity. And though the source material was published before the DCnU, its repercussions were felt long after, and it still worked well within the new setting. For those of you not comic savvy, the source material I speak of is Grant Morrison’s “Batman and Son,” which began his long run on the character and introduced the world to Damian,...

While we may have to wait until 2016 to see Batman and Superman face off on the big screen, we luckily don’t have to wait quite as long to see the Caped Crusader in a movie again. In fact, he’ll be making two appearances this year in upcoming direct-to-video animated releases from the awkwardly titled DC Universe Animated Movies line.
The first film, Son of Batman, arrives on May 6th, and the second, Batman: Assault on Arkham, sometime this fall. The latter feature will exist independently from the other Dcau films, instead occupying the same space as the popular and successful Arkham video games. The first trailer for the film was released yesterday, and you can check it out below.
Directed by Jay Oliva (The Dark Knight Returns, Justice League: War), Assault on Arkham pits the Dark Knight against the Joker, who has stolen a dirty bomb and rigged it somewhere in Gotham City.

Heath Corson: Finding Laughs in the Justice League Screenwriter Heath Corson has stayed strongly in touch with his own inner child, which proved particularly helpful when he got the opportunity to adapt comic book writer Geoff Johns and superstar artist Jim Lee’s insta-classic relaunch of DC Comics’ Justice League for the animated film Justice League: War, recently out on Blu-ray from Warner Bros. Home Video. "I’ve been wanting to get my hands on these characters forever, since I was seven years old,” says Corson. “I mean, I literally tweeted a picture of myself as Superman when I was nine years old today, and so this is a huge dream come true.” Mixing the kind of large-scale action that defined Johns and Lee’s storyline as...

Seven years ago, DC and Warner Bros started releasing direct-to-video animated films, with a retelling of one of the most controversial storylines ever, the Death of Superman with the film “Superman: Doomsday.” Seventeen films later, they have essentially started over with “Justice League: War.” “Doomsday” had an art style that was still reminiscent of the Dcu Animated shows that had just ended the year prior with “Justice League: Unlimited,” and each film subsequently moved further and further away, creating their own unique takes on the characters. But all of those storylines were classics (with a few originals) and were from a vault of well known and loved stories. In 2011, DC Comics concluded the company-wide “Flashpoint” crossover, which led to the reboot of the DC new Universe (DCnU), or New 52. The DCAnimated Universe has recently done the same, starting with “Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox,” and the release of their 18th film,...

While there is a likely Oscar-winner, a massive box set from HBO, and some true crowd-pleasers in this week’s What to Watch, it’s a bit of a downer compared to some more recent jam-packed weeks of Blu-ray and streaming greatness. We also couldn’t find an On Demand title this week worth mentioning, although Denis Villeneuve’s “Enemy,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, hits DirecTV On Demand this Thursday and you can bet we’ll be there to check it out before a March theatrical release. The Warner Animation series of direct-to-disc features has apparently said farewell to the past as this week’s release of Justice League: War and May’s Son of Batman are both from the New 52 era. A pity given how many cool stories remain unadapted. Readers who picked up Justice League #1 in August 2011 were treated to a brand new take on the tried and true characters from DC Comics, but it was clearly early in their collective careers. It was the first time many were meeting one another and dealing with the threat of Darkseid from Apokolips.
A fresh start but far from a clean one but discussions of that title and the entire New 52 belong elsewhere. Right now, we’re examining the latest feature from director Jay Oliva to see how well it stands up on its own. He’s working from a script by Heath Corson, making his DC...

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released a new clip from Justice League: War. It features The Flash meeting Batman for the first time, and Flash is a little bit starstruck. It's a pretty fun clip. Yesterday it was reported that this will start a cinematic continuity between the DC animated films. Comic Book Resources spoke to James Tucker, producer of Justice League: War, who had this to say,
This will definitely be the first salvo in doing new movies that are in continuity with each other. Our next movie’s going to be ‘Son of Batman,’ and that Batman will be the same Batman that you see in ‘Justice League: War.’ Basically, we’ll have two concurrent series of Justice League movies and Batman movies, and they’ll be in continuity with each other. So it’s kind of world-building.
That should definitely make these movies a lot more fun to watch.

The DC animated universe had shared continuity back in the 1990s when the "Batman," "Superman," "Batman Beyond" and "Justice League" animated series were on the air.
For much of the past decade though, Warner Brothers abandoned that idea. Instead they've released standalone direct-to-video movies based on DC Entertainment comic books from "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" to "Superman: Doomsday".
With this month's "Justice League: War" though, that changes back to shared continuity again. Producer James Tucker says: "This will definitely be the first salvo in doing new films that are in continuity with each other. Justice League: War, DC's animated adaptation of Geoff Johns and Jim Lee's initial Justice League arc, is set to be the first (of many) films in DC's new shared animated universe. War's producer James Tucker had this to say about how the film will affect future of DC's animated universe: This will definitely be the first salvo in doing new movies that are in continuity with each other, our next movie's going to be 'Son of Batman,' and that Batman will be the same Batman that you see in 'Justice League: War.'
