If you watched J.J. Abrams' 2009 reboot of the "Star Trek" motion picture franchise — and considering that the film made almost $400 million, earned rave reviews, won an Academy Award for Best Makeup, and helped spawn a "Star Trek" renaissance that persists to this day through multiple acclaimed TV shows, there's a decent chance you did — then you probably weren't surprised to discover the film had surprises. Maybe you knew that original series star Leonard Nimoy came back, but maybe you didn't know that the planet Vulcan would be destroyed, or that Scotty accidentally killed Captain Archer's dog. Either way, the references, revelations, and cameos were practically inevitable, so much so that many "Trek" fans probably didn't raise an eyebrow at some of them.
But there was one moment in Abrams' first "Star Trek" movie that was genuinely unexpected, thanks to a cameo that had no relationship whatsoever to the franchise's past,...

Exclusive: Peter Hoare has been tapped by producers Joe Russo (The Greatest Beer Run Ever) and Jordan Finnegan to pen the script for Reply All, a new film based on the viral, true story of Will Novak, an Arizona family man who was the unintended recipient of an invitation to a bachelor party in Vermont.
The story dates back to 2019, when Novak received an invitation to “Angelo’s Bachelor Party” that was intended for a different William Novak. But rather than informing the group that they had reached the wrong person, he instead let them know that he would be attending.
Novak quickly designed a GoFundMe page titled “Help Me Go to The Bachelor Party Of A Complete Stranger” which raised funds to cover the entire trip in two hours. And as the story got out onto social media, several corporate brands began to reach out,...

Jim Jefferies: High n’ Dry is a comedy special starring the always great Jim Jeffreries.
If you enjoy stand-up comedy, you will love this guy who has been doing this for years and who comes from Australia, after coming from the U.K. and finally, with an American nationality, offers us a variety of international themes, that for us, are very attractive.
He starts his special show with something that lots of us were talking about and which for all of us silently felt: we were fed up with the facemask. He goes on with koalas and a thousand other subjects with this humor of anecdotes which is always entertaining and which is especially enjoyable and frequent in streaming lately.

Berlin, March 23 (Ians) Popular American TV personality David Hasselhoff is headed to German TV. The 68-year-old will be playing a fictionalised version of himself in the upcoming German TV show, "Ze Network", alongside actor Henry Hubchen.
The series is being described as an international conspiracy story, according to a report in aceshowbiz.com.
"To do a cutting-edge series and working with Rtl is a dream come true. The series is funny, deadly, creative, informative and simply exciting. Fact or fiction, you decide," he said in a statement as reported by the publication.
The report also states that Christian Alvart will direct the show. "I can't wait to share with audiences the crazy ride Mr. Hasselhoff will be bravely taking on with 'Ze Germans'," Alvart said in a statement.

For the first time in a while, Netflix is adding no new titles today, so let’s instead take the opportunity to recap what’s gone up on the streaming site over the past week, from Saturday, August 1st to Saturday, August 8th. As that encompasses the first day of the month, there was a huge amount of fresh content added to Netflix’s library over this period. To be exact, there were 49 movies and 24 TV shows.
On the film side of things, this haul includes many an acclaimed or cult favorite flick from across the decades in all kinds of genres. The highlight is probably the entire Jurassic Park trilogy, which has proved popular with Netflix users as the first two entries have been hanging around the top 10 most-watched movies list almost ever since arriving. 80s classic fantasy flick The NeverEnding Story and its sequel were added on the 1st as well,...

With the summer starting to wind down, Netflix appear to be taking their foot off the gas a little bit when it comes to releasing high-profile original movies. Over the last few months, the streaming service has debuted a string of in-house projects that have either been subjected to widespread critical acclaim or racked up huge viewing numbers, and frequently both.
Netflix can sometimes be fairly secretive about their viewership data unless they’re shouting their success from the rooftops, and having recently revealed their Top 10 most-watched original movies ever, you can understand why they went public. If you include the reported 72 million streams for Charlize Theron’s The Old Guard that would see it claim sixth spot in the rankings, then four of the Top 10 were released between March and July of this year alone.

Now that we’re two thirds of the way through July, we’ve got a pretty good idea of what’s coming to Netflix next month. New titles are being added all the time and while some days remain lacking in content at present, on the whole we know what to expect on the streaming service in August. As always, there’s a huge variety, too, from foreign titles to documentaries to new TV series to much-anticipated Netflix originals.
Some of the more notable additions to the line-up that have been added since it was first announced last week include 2003’s Seabiscuit, the jockey drama starring Tobey Maguire, and the next season of Transformers Rescue Bots Academy, both coming on the first day of the month. And remember, this is far from the full list of new arrivals for August, as it only encompasses what’s been announced so far,...

We’re only halfway through July, but we already know much of what’s coming to Netflix in August. Obviously, plenty more titles will be announced as the month draws nearer, but there’s still a bunch of highly anticipated movies and TV shows already on the schedule.
Just today, we got our first trailer for one of them – the streaming giant’s new superhero action flick, Project Power, starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, that’s based around a mysterious pill that imbues whoever takes it with superpowers for a total of five minutes. That’s dropping on August 14th.
Before that, however, the first day of the month brings Killing Hasselhoff, Netflix’s new comedy movie starring David Hasselhoff himself and Ken Jeong as a nightclub owner who has to resort to desperate measures to pay off a loan shark. It was originally supposed to land on July...

When it comes to Netflix – and most major streaming services, for that matter – the first of the month is always a big deal. It’s when the most new content arrives and usually brings with it a heavy helping of fresh material for subscribers to sink their teeth into. And sure enough, July is no different.
Yes, as it’s July 1st today, the streamer has opened the floodgates and unleashed a whole bunch of new movies and TV shows. And as you can see from the complete list below, we’ve got quite the selection to choose from. Be it the excellent and sorely underrated sci-fi epic Cloud Atlas, horror juggernaut Paranormal Activity, the visually stunning Sucker Punch or early Johnny Depp films like Donnie Brasco and Sleepy Hollow, you surely won’t have trouble finding something to flip on tonight and enjoy.
But don’t just take our word for it.

Every year, movies are being produced at faster rates and in greater quantity, and that’s thanks – in part – to streamers like Netflix. Because of their business strategy, customers can now watch thousands of films for the same price as a single cinema ticket. As such, the entertainment appetite of the American public has been growing stronger with each passing season. To that end, here’s an overview of the best new movies coming to Netflix next month.
First off, we got science fiction and fantasy. Fans of visiting other worlds will be in for a treat in July, as Netflix will be adding Cloud Atlas to its library. Directed by the Wachowski siblings – the same ones who created the now-infamous Matrix franchise – this time-traveling epic follows the stories of a handful of reincarnating souls who live their different yet similar lives across several centuries.

How does Netflix determine which titles leave and which enter its dauntingly large library? Do they carefully analyze viewing statistics and find content that caters to our interests? Or do they simply throw an immense amount of content at the wall and watch what sticks?
The answer is probably a mix of both. Like most entertainment companies, Netflix knows full well the potential of mathematics, but it also respects the creative spirit. As such, some new additions may have been carefully chosen, and others not. In any case, here’s an overview of the 81 new movies and TV shows headed to the platform this coming week.
Let’s begin with the basics. One of the most inoffensive yet well-crafted Hollywood films arriving is Donnie Brasco. Produced in 1997, it stars now-legendary actor Johnny Depp in one of his first lead roles ever, and tells the story of an undercover cop who...

The summer movie season, as we usually know it, isn’t happening this year, with few big releases planning to drop over the next couple of months, even if cinemas are just starting to reopen. Instead, then, it’s falling on Netflix and the various other streaming services to pull their weight and give movie lovers a range of new content to feast on. Thankfully, July isn’t looking too shabby for original films and TV, not to mention lots of classics or underrated gems appearing on all the usual sites.
Of course, Netflix has the most original output coming across next month. TV fans, in particular, have got much to look forward to, including season 2 of The Umbrella Academy. In fact, it’s a good month for fantasy series based off comic books all-round, as we’ve also got Arthurian retelling Cursed and super-powered action show Warrior Nun coming as well.

You know, plenty of streaming services would treat the dog days of summer as an excuse to slow down. At Netflix, however, the content buffet is still open, baby. Despite the coronavirus pandemic shutting down all of Hollywood for an extended period of time, Netflix’s new releases for July 2020 are still jam-packed with a host of familiar originals.
The blockbuster this month is probably The Umbrella Academy season 2. The next installment for the Hargreeves family arrives on July 31. And if that’s too long of a wait for you, Netflix gets the month off to a strong start with a string of originals as well. Unsolved Mysteries arrives on July 1, followed by Warrior Nun on July 2, and The Baby-Sitter’s Club on July 3. That’s not even to mentioned the feminist take on Arthurian legend, Cursed, which premiers on July 17.
There are a couple of intriguing original movies to consider this month as well.

His touching vocal interpretation resonated with the panel. But who is hiding behind the horned costume?

The clues seemed obvious. The voice-over stated the singer struggled with constant criticism despite much success and talked about his loyal college roommate. The roommate chimed in stating “he’s tough” but “a total softie.” He also mentioned that the Rhino was a surfer. Ultimately pleasant if slight, “Standing Up, Falling Down” arrives at that modest impact despite the fact that the major characters here insist on behaving in ways that are meant to be funny, but too often land more in the “obnoxious” zone. This seriocomedy, with Ben Schwartz as a failed comedian and Billy Crystal as a wacky dermatologist he befriends, is actually stronger in its middleweight dramatic departments than it is in convincing us that these newly-met buddies are really good-hearted charmers — as opposed to tactless misanthropes who’ve quite understandably alienated most of those around them.
A different movie might have actually explored that second, rather bleak reality. But “Standing Up” wants to be cute and heartwarming. That it eventually succeeds, more or less, pays testament to producer turned first-time feature helmer Matt Ratner’s adept handling, and a cast that does their considerable best with iffy material. Brett Carducci and Stephen Laddin have acquired the film and television rights to Bill Brittain’s “The Wish Giver.” The two will produce a series project based on the young-adult novel through Carducci’s Aligned Entertainment.
Published in 1983, “The Wish Giver” tells the story of three children, each granted a wish that, when fulfilled, turns horribly wrong. The book won a Newbery Honor citation in 1984. Carducci and Laddin intend to develop the project as an anthology in the vein of “The Twilight Zone” or “Black Mirror,” but with a youth-oriented spin in the tradition of “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” Each episode will take viewers through the journey of a teenager wishing for something different in his or her own life, and having that wish come true — though not in the way intended. The teen must then learn a moral lesson that reverses the wish.
No network is yet attached to the project.

Justin Bieber will voice Cupid, the winged god of love, in a new animated movie he's developing and executive producing with Mythos Studios, Variety reports.
The as-yet-untitled film marks one of the first projects from Mythos, which Bieber's longtime manager Scooter Braun recently co-founded with Marvel Studios founding chairman David Maisel.
"When this project was brought to Justin, he instantly was excited to be a part of it," Braun said. "Fortunately for us, like Cupid, he knows a little bit about love and mischief."

Homeless people are some of the most inciteful people, aren’t they?
From Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, Killing Hasselhoff is a hilarious and outrageous comedy starring Ken Jeong (The Hangover) and the Hoff (Baywatch), himself.
The movie follows a nightclub owner, Chris (Jeong) failing to pay back a loan shark and deciding the best way to make quick money is to bet in the “Who Will Die This Year” celebrity death pool. And he places his bets on David Hasselhoff. Aided by his friends, he will try everything to eliminate the Hoff. As it turns out, The Hoff is not an easy target.
The film also stars Jon Lovitz (The Ridiculous Six), Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords) and Jim Jeffries (Tainted Lover). There are also plenty of celebrity cameos including Howie Mandel (America’s Got Talent), musician Kid Cudi, and Gena Lee Nolin (Baywatch).

Never being a fan of Knight Rider, I never really paid attention to David Hasselhoff, but gathered he was a good-looking actor with limited range and skills. Somewhere along the way, he continued getting work in projects both good and bad and built a fan base (I hear he’s really big in Germany). As a result, I missed when he crossed the cultural equator and became comfortable with the ridicule and self-parody. He’s accepted where he fits in pop culture and has gone on to embrace it as witnessed by his hysterical ‘70s-era music video found on the Blu-ray of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
And now, from Universal Home Entertainment, is Killing Hasselhoff, a direct-to-dvd release that finds him the target of an amateur assassin. This sloppy, slight comedy stars Ken Jeong as a nightclub owner in debt to loan shark Wasserstein (Will Sasso). Unable to...

David Hasselhoff has spoken about his reservations over the upcoming Baywatch movie.
Paramount Pictures recently announced plans to make a new film version of the classic TV show starring Dwayne Johnson.
Hasselhoff - who played Mitch Buchannon in the original series from 1989 to 2000 - revealed to Digital Spy that the update has yet to be written.

The actor explained that he would have preferred to have continued the franchise himself, adding that he hopes it doesn't turn into a "spoof".

Big remains one of our favourite Tom Hanks childhood movies (perhaps losing out to Turner and Hooch, boy did that make us blub, we barely held it together) so we're slightly unnerved by reports that a TV series based on the film has been commissioned.
Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce are now said to have received a script plus penalty commitment from broadcaster Fox for the half-hour comedy series, which will explore what it means to be both an adult and child in today's world.
The 1988 Oscar-nominated movie, written by Gary Ross and Anne Spielberg, sees a boy's simple wish to be big come true as a 13-year-old is transformed into a 30-year-old overnight.
We take a nostalgic look at the cast of the huge hit - including Tom Hanks and John Heard - and what came next below:

He’s not had the best year of his life, and perhaps that’s why Justin Bieber agreed to do the voice of the “Night Rider” car Kitt in the forthcoming film “Killing Hasselhoff.”
The “One Less Lonely Girl” singer showed up on the set this week, and it turns out David Hasselhoff himself arranged the gig.
According to The Hoff, “He called me and asked me for a favor. I called him back and said, ‘As a friend, could you do me a favor.’ And he said, ‘Yes.’ And you know what? I did his favor first because I love the Bieb.”
“I think he’s a cool kid, and he gets a bad rap. He’s a good guy, and I like his music. I’ve known him for five years, since the European Music Awards. I called him and said, ‘Would you do me a favor?’ And he said,...

Justin Bieber will be the voice of talking car Kitt from the 80s classic Knight Rider for David Hasselhoff’s upcoming comedy. Australian comedian and co-star Jim Jerffries confirmed both Bieber’s role and that Kitt will still be the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am we all remember.
"Justin Bieber is the voice of Kitt in this movie - you can't say that every day," Jeffries said.
However, this is not a Knight Rider sequel or reboot. Instead, the film is a comedy called Killing Hasselhoff, in which a man attempts to win a bet by hiring an assassin to kill The Hoff.
Bieber is taking over the role from Kitt’s original voice actor, William Daniels (who millennials will recognize as Mr. Feeny from Boy Meets World). Daniels, who turned 87 this year, last voiced Kitt for Hasselhoff’s Comedy Central Roast in 2010.

Here’s a casting combo we’re not sure many people would have seen coming: Ken Jeong, Hulk Hogan and David Hasselhoff will be sharing screen time in a new untitled comedy (formerly known as Killing Hasselhoff) that focuses on celebrity death pools. The decidedly morbid idea of betting on when certain people will die forms the basis for the film, in which Jeong plays a struggling nightclub owner who is facing serious threats from the loan shark to whom he owes big debts. In order to pay the man off and emerge with his limbs intact, the businessman decides to make sure he wins a long-running death pool by killing his chosen celebrity: enter The Hoff, who will almost certainly be hassled here in complete contravention to that standard rule against doing so. And as to how Hogan fits into the film, that’s still unclear.Hasselhoff will be co-starring and producing the movie,...
