Being an actor means losing out on many, many roles, especially when you are just starting out. Glen Powell knows this agonizing truth all too well. The actor was initially known for his role in Scream Queens (2015-2016), where he played Chad Radwell. However, he gained worldwide fame and recognition only after playing Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick (2022). He then went on to star in his own rom-com, Anyone but You (2023) opposite the gorgeous Sydney Sweeney.

If there is anyone in the film industry who greatly appreciates their rise in fame, it is Glen Powell. The actor came so close to playing many iconic roles in his career that would’ve given him recognition well before Maverick. This includes the time when he auditioned for The Longest Ride (2015).

Actor Clint Eastwood decided to go with another actor for one of his highly successful films instead of his son Scott. But getting turned down for the role might’ve benefited Scott in hindsight.

Eastwood seemed to make sure that his son Scott didn’t succeed in Hollywood based off nepotism. The Unforgiven star had Scott pay his dues in the industry similarly to how Eastwood did back in the day.
“I was 18 years old when I called him and wanted to audition for Flags of Our Fathers,” Scott once told The Independent. “‘Well, we’ll see. It's a good time to be named Charlie Cox. Netflix's — and now Marvel's — "Daredevil" star is set to lead the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the blind lawyer with excessive Catholic guilt in "Daredevil: Born Again." With that renewed social currency, Cox is finding a wealth of other stories to tell. Among them is Netflix's upcoming limited series, "Treason," which the United Kingdoms and Ireland branch of the streaming juggernaut's Twitter account revealed the show's release date.
The announcement came bundled with a collection of first-look images showcasing Cox and some of his fellow cast members (more on them later) all looking very serious in suits and bulletproof vests. Considering "Treason" is set to be a spy thriller piece in the same vein as "James Bond" and "The Bourne Identity," the attire seems appropriate.

Becoming Nicholas Sparks’ literary agent and then film production president might not seem like the best preparation for making a romantic drama about cannibalism, but Per Capita Prods. founder Theresa Park is transitioning to a wider, edgier range of projects with ease.
Park is producing an animated children’s show based on Michael Buckley’s bestselling fantasy novel series “The Sisters Grimm” for Apple TV+. And she arrives in Venice for the Sept. 2 world premiere of “Bones and All,” Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of Camille DeAngelis’s novel about a couple (Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell) whose tastes run more towards hand eating than the hand holding found in Sparks’ works. The MGM/UA feature follows two other offbeat projects in Per Capita’s first year of releases: A24’s robot drama “After Yang” starring Colin Farrell and the Apple TV+ female-centered series “Roar” with Nicole Kidman.

Updated, Sunday Am writethru after Saturday Am update: The wearing down of the MCU luster is unfortunately being seen, as Disney’s Thor: Love and Thunder is having a great fall, with a -68 drop for a second weekend to 46M. And the sequel isn’t even theatrical day-and-date like Black Widow was last year on Disney+. While the Taika Waititi-directed movie improved beyond its high 130M opening estimates last weekend into the 144M range, it’s clear those sour audience exits of a B+ CinemaScore and 3 1/2 stars are taking their toll.
Thor‘s second weekend drop ranks among the MCU’s worst, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (-67) and Black Widow (-68). Forget about Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s -68 second drop. That’s largely due to Christmas falling on a Saturday, and everyone knows that Sony/MCU title was making money hand over fist on a daily basis.

It seems that “Blair Witch Project” is still having an impact on filmmakers, with Prathamesh Patil implementing the approach of the American classic through the prism of vlogging and social media.
“The Longest Ride” review is part of the Submit Your Film Initiative
An over-enthusiastic YouTube vlogger who uploads videos of his rides with his bicycle, decides to take a longer trip, this time towards the bushes of Gorai. However, this rather urban boy finds himself having to face nature and realizes how ill-equipped he is, both mentally and practically. Danger becomes imminent, but a “Deus Ex Machina” appearance helps the protagonist avoid the worse. Was the whole thing worth it though?
Patil directs a short that seems to comment on the impact of social media and online fame, particularly on young people, with the protagonist essentially falling victim to it, in his effort to do something extreme, that will increase his audience.

Celebrated Andalusian production house La Claqueta, headed by producer Olmo Figueredo, will produce “Bella,” the debut animated feature from Spanish director Manuel H. Martín – with whom the company previously produced the award-winning documentary “30 Years of Darkness” and “El viaje mas largo,” and celebrated VFX supervisor Amparo Martínez Barco.
Martín also co-wrote the screenplay for “Bella,” working with award-winning filmmaker Carmen Jiménez, co-writer of 2019’s Spanish Academy Goya Award-nominated “Adiós,” starring Mario Casas.
“Bella” is inspired by the true story of Seville’s Ana Bella Estévez, an Ashoka España entrepreneur and a survivor of gender violence who founded the Ana Bella Foundation, a global network of more than 30,000 women survivors who work to create social change in 82 countries worldwide. Importantly, the film’s team chose animation as the medium to tell her story so that audiences of all ages can hear the important message Ana has dedicated her life to sharing.

Spain’s Oscar entry, “The Endless Trench,” a multi-award-winning feature from the Basque trio of Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga, has also become a flagship production for the Andalusian film sector.

Inspired by real-life events after the Spanish Civil War, “Trench” mainly filmed in Huelva’s Higuera de la Sierra, Carboneras and Paymogo for its Andalusian leg. Olmo Figueredo and Manuel H. Martín’s outfit La Claqueta was key for “Trench’s” financing, documentation and narrative support.

Last year in the times of opulent movie showcase palaces with big wide screens and thundering digital sound two major studio features focused on the last century’s two world wars: 1917 and Midway. This holiday weekend sees the release of a major battle film from a more recent conflict. Without the big theatres to bask in the epic scope, this film goes for a more intimate approach. Instead of hopping from country to country, we’re embedded right there with the warriors as the world seems to explode all around them. Even with modern tech, the danger is just as abrupt and deadly. And for the last couple of decades, the hottest of the world’s hot spots (in nearly every way) was Afghanistan. As we celebrate our freedom on this patriotic holiday, it may be the perfect time to look back at another incident concerning those who gave...

Three Fox Searchlight films emerged from Venice and Telluride as potential Oscar players. Bodice-ripper “The Favourite” won two major awards at Venice en route to opening the New York Film Festival (Metascore: 91). Melissa McCarthy and Richard E. Grant scored in dramedy tour-de-force “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” (Metascore: 87). Robert Redford could factor for his charming performance in his swansong “The Old Man & The Gun” (Metascore: 86). And in Toronto, two more mainstream crowdpleasers have emerged from the venerable Hollywood studio, just as Fox heads toward its merger with Disney.
Steve McQueen’s “Widows” (Metascore: 85) is that rare Hollywood creature: a brainy studio movie that entertains and challenges as it reveals the real world. As potential Best Actress Oscar contender Viola Davis told me in Toronto, during one day of shoot in Chicago, 200 shootings occurred.

Exclusive: Theresa Park and her Pow! Productions have acquired film rights to the short story Saying Goodbye to Yang by Alexander Weinstein, which is part of the author’s book of short stories, Children of the New World from publisher Picador. Park is teaming with Cinereach, to develop and produce a film adaptation, to be adapted and directed by Kogonada (Columbus).
Saying Goodbye to Yang is set in a world where robotic children are purchased as live-in-babysitters. The story follows Yang, a robotic Chinese “Big Brother,” programmed to help his little sister learn about her cultural heritage. When Yang malfunctions, it means the loss of a babysitter, and even more importantly, the loss of what the family has come to see as a member of their family, perhaps even a son.

Asa Butterfield and Britt Robertson star in new sci-fi romance, The Space Between Us. Here's our review...
Asa Butterfield and Britt Robertson play star-crossed lovers in The Space Between Us, a sci-fi romance which, shockingly, is not an adaptation of a novel by Nicholas Sparks or Stephenie Meyer. It's still full of the sort of contrivances that usually get explained away by some well-read fan as being faithful to the source material, but it comes from an original screenplay. However, when you realise that the screenplay was written by Allan Loeb, author of last year's feel-bad turkey Collateral Beauty, you might start to understand why it's utter nonsense.
In the not-too-distant future, 16-year-old Gardner Elliot (Butterfield) is the first human born on Mars. Raised by scientists and kept secret from the people of Earth by aerospace CEO Nathaniel Shepard (Gary Oldman), Gardner rails against his sheltered life and longs to...

Summer is officially here, but thanks to HBO’s latest releases, bingeing TV shows and movies on the couch may be preferable to a day at the beach. New original programming includes the premiere of “The Night Of,” a gritty new New York based miniseries, and “Vice Principals,” a dark comedy about feuding administrators.
Returning programming includes Dwayne Johnson’s “Ballers” and “Looking: The Movie,” which sums up the story of gay men in San Francisco that was explored in HBO’s recently canceled series.
