The Ghostface Killer won’t leave Sidney Prescott alone, and Neve Campbell is showing her gratitude for it. After much hardship of trying to develop the seventh chapter in the Scream franchise, things are finally starting to take shape and one of the biggest elements is the return of the original final girl! Scream 7 has gone through many changes in cast and crew. The studio lost its two former leading ladies after Melissa Barrera faced controversy over a social media post and Jenna Ortega’s schedule prevented her from returning. In addition, the new director, Christopher Landon, left the project, saying it was a “nightmare.”
The original screenwriter who started it all, Kevin Williamson, is now slated to step in to direct, and Campbell was finally approached by the studio for a deal to return. While she previously had salary issues that kept her from participating in the last film,...

Although the current state of the "Scream" franchise is a giant mess, it's worth remembering that merely a few years ago, its future seemed as bright as ever. 2022's "Scream" was a clear-cut hit at the box office, and it successfully introduced a whole new generation of characters who could be chased around with a knife for many installments to come. "Scream 5" not only did all this while keeping Sidney and Gale in the fold, but it also set the groundwork for the return of Kirby (Hayden Panettiere).
Despite being a fan favorite in "Scream 4," Kirby was tragically left for dead near the end of the movie. How'd she die? Well, she made the tragic mistake of trusting her potential love interest Charlie (Rory Culkin), trying to save him from Ghostface when she should've been saving herself. The good news is that Kirby was soon avenged by her supportive,...

Fans of the original film, which starred Michael Keaton as the mischievous ghost Beetlejuice, have been eagerly waiting for a follow-up for over three decades. The trailer promises a thrilling return to the whimsical and macabre world that made the first movie a beloved classic.
Michael Keaton reprises his role as the titular character, bringing back his iconic, eccentric charm. Alongside him, Winona Ryder returns as Lydia Deetz, now a grown woman who still harbors her fascination with the supernatural. The trailer hints at Lydia’s deepened connection to the spirit world and her continued entanglement with Beetlejuice’s antics. Scream VII is now moving forward without the previous movie's leads, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, and while plot details are still under wraps, rumors have claimed that the story will revolve around Sidney (Neve Campbell), Gale (Courteney Cox) and some new characters defending Sid's family from some kind of Ghostface cult.
There have been conflicting reports about exactly how many masked maniacs will be targetting our returning heroes, but thanks to insider Daniel Richtman, we may have a little more to go on regarding the "younger leads" that are currently being cast.
Apparently, there will be a "big time jump" following the events of the last movie, presumably to allow for Sidney's children to have grown to appropriate slasher movie age. Richtman has also heard that this film will be at least partially set in a new town, and is being developed as the first instalment in a new trilogy.

Standing tall as one of the most widely recognized horror-slasher franchises, the Scream series has continued to hold its ground with several movies so far. Along with one TV show, the series is moving ahead with the development of a seventh movie but not without constant hiccups. A slew of bad news surrounding its cast, production crew, and directorial team sent shockwaves to fans, with more unexpected developments rapidly taking shape.
Screengrab of Ghostface from the Scream franchise | Paramount Pictures
Beginning in the mid-’90s, the franchise quite literally revolutionized the genre with its unique blend of horror, mystery, and satirical humor. Additionally, it has constantly maintained a steadfast climb with the regular addition of new faces alongside popular ones like Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Roger L. Jackson. Meanwhile, the latest update from the sets of the upcoming movie, while in the franchise’s interest, may also possibly spell its doom.

Thirty years after the original Nightwatch and twenty-seven years after the American remake, writer/director Ole Bornedal returns, rather literally, to the scene of the crime with Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever, a standalone sequel to the original Danish film.
Martin survived the events of the first film and the suicide of his wife Kalinka. It’s taken its toll though, he’s dependent on prescription drugs to get through the day, and he’s even less likeable than he was back then. He also has a daughter, Emma, played by the director’s daughter Fanny Leander Bornedal who is in med school.

The MonsterVerse has, somewhat quietly, become one of the most reliable franchises going in Hollywood at the moment. For a full decade dating back to 2014's "Godzilla" right up through this year's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," these films have built up a loyal audience with no signs of fatigue on the part of the viewers. While Warner Bros. and Legendary are quickly looking to get a new installment going, they will need a new director, as we recently learned that Adam Wingard will not be returning to the helm. So, who should take his place?
Wingard is the only filmmaker to direct two MonsterVerse installments, having helmed 2021's "Godzilla vs. Kong" as well as "The New Empire," which now ranks as the highest-grossing "Godzilla" movie ever. So sure, the studio would probably have liked him to return, but he's busy with other projects. Besides, that just opens the...

Scream 7 and the Escape from New York requel may be off the table for the filmmaking team known as Radio Silence, but they have just set up a new high profile project. Deadline reports that Radio Silence is set to make The Robots Go Crazy, which has Andy Samberg of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Palm Springs, and Hot Rod attached to star in it.
Samberg is known for his comedy work, and sure enough, The Robots Go Crazy will be taking the Radio Silence team – which previously brought us the horror comedy Ready or Not, the slasher sequels Scream (2022) and Scream VI, the vampire movie Abigail, and segments of the horror anthologies V/H/S and Southbound – out of the horror genre. This project is being described as an action comedy.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards are on pause for 2024, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Sources told THR that the show will return next year with a “reimagined” format.
The show last aired in May 2023 amid the Writers Guild of America strike. Host Drew Barrymore dropped out in a show of solidarity with the writers.
The show aired but with numerous pretaped segments and acceptance speeches, clips from upcoming movies and TV shows and previous editions of the MTV Movie & TV Awards. Additionally the show, awards categories and nominees and winners were announced via a voiceover, which initially referred to the event as the “2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards special.”
When Barrymore dropped out, it was announced that she’d agreed to host the 2024 awards. It’s unclear if she’s still attached to host the 2025 installment.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards is taking another break. Variety has confirmed that the event, which would have normally taken place around this time of year, will instead sit 2024 out — with an eye toward returning next year, perhaps in a different, “reimagined” format.
It’s been a bumpy decade for the MTV Movie & TV Awards, which first began in 1992 (as the MTV Movie Awards). Last’s year’s event was forced to pivot to a pre-taped clip show in light of the Hollywood writers’ strike, as host Drew Barrymore bowed out and the WGA announced plans to picket the ceremony.
Meanwhile, in 2020, the MTV Movie & TV Awards also didn’t take place, due in part to the Covid-19 pandemic, but also because the network had planned to move the franchise (long a spring/early summer staple) to December. Ultimately, instead of an awards show, MTV ran a “MTV Movie & TV...

Director duo Radio Silence confirm that a remake of John Carpenter’s Escape From New York is no longer on their slate.
Radio Silence are out and about at the moment promoting Abigail, their latest horror flick. It looks like Snake Plissken will be trapped in New York a bit longer: a planned reboot of the John Carpenter classic "Escape From New York" has lost its directors again, according to ComicBook.com. Spoilers: In addition to Scream 2, this article will have spoilers for every other movie in the franchise.
We all know that one of the big draws of the Scream franchise is Ghostface’s identity. But some are a lot harder to figure out who is behind the mask than others. The big surprise in 1996’s original wasn’t that it was Billy or Stu, it was that it was Billy and Stu. And nobody was surprised when freaky Tarantino film student Mickey turned out to be one of the killers in Scream 2. The same could be said of Debbie Salt – after all, why put a prominent actress like Laurie Metcalf in a seemingly thankless role? But Metcalf thinks her Scream 2 reveal still ranks as the best in the franchise’s history.
Speaking with Collider, Laurie Metcalf stated bluntly, “I think in the Scream movies, my character has the best reveal.

The Og Woodboro final girl is returning to the Scream franchise after the series got a new stab at continuing when Ready or Not directors Matt Bertinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett revived the story with the 2022 sequel. Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette would all make appearances in their respective characters in the fifth film. However, when it came to the 2023 sequel, Scream VI, Campbell’s Sidney Prescott would notably be missing for the first time in franchise history. The story would pick up from the point-of-view of the Carpenters, played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Neither star will be returning for Scream 7, paving the way for Campbell’s return…after the pay dispute that kept her out of the last film was settled.
Variety reports that the former Party of Five star confirmed that the studio, Spyglass Media Group, met her request and she replies with gratitude.

Neve Campbell shared that Spyglass Media Group increased her pay for Scream VII after she previously exited the franchise due to a salary dispute.
Ahead of Scream VI, the actress said in 2022 that she would not be returning to the blockbuster slasher series because she “felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.” However, it was revealed in March that Campbell would reprise her character Sidney Prescott in the upcoming seventh installment.
While the Wild Things actress is excited to return to her character she’s known for 30 years, she also recently told People magazine that she’s “really grateful that the studio heard me when I talked about pay discrepancy and when I talked about [Scream VI negotiations] not feeling respectful.”
She added, “When they first approached me [for Scream VII ], I thought, ‘I don’t know what respectful looks like to them.

Neve Campbell says that Spyglass Media Group upped her pay after she spoke out about a pay disparity during salary negotiations for “Scream 6,” the film that caused the actress to exit the franchise.
“I’m really grateful that the studio heard me when I talked about pay discrepancy and when I talked about [‘Scream VI’ negotiations] not feeling respectful,” she told People.
Campbell announced in June 2022 that she was leaving the franchise, as she didn’t feel she was being properly compensated to reprise her role of Sidney Prescott in the sixth movie. She also told People at the time that she believed her offer for the sixth film would not have come in so low if she were a man.
“As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to ‘Scream,'” Campbell said in a June 2022 statement to Variety.

Neve Campbell confirmed today that, after expressing dismay at the pay disparity between her Scream salary and what a man might be offered in the same position, when Spyglass Media Group came to her for Scream 7, it was with a “strong” offer.
“I just really felt the need to stand up and say that I don’t believe I would’ve been treated that way had I been a man carrying a franchise for 25 years,” she said in the lead up to the sixth film, in which she did not participate.
This week, Campbell told People, “I honestly don’t believe that if I were a man and had done five installments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years that the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man.”
That said, she appreciates the change of heart.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

Jenna Ortega is heading into production on season 2 of the Addams Family-inspired Netflix series Wednesday and has a prominent role in the long-awaited sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but she’s no longer a part of two other franchises. After starring in Scream (2022) and Scream VI, she reportedly asked for a substantial pay raise to return for Scream 7, despite knowing that request wouldn’t go over well with the producers at Spyglass Media – and sure enough, Spyglass opted not to bring her back for Scream 7. Now the full trailer for the upcoming Netflix animated series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory – which serves as a follow-up to the animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous – reveals that Ortega’s Camp Cretaceous character Brooklynn has been killed off! In 2022, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media revived the Scream franchise with a new entry (the fifth) that was a box office hit, earning almost $139 million at the global box office. Fourteen months later, Scream VI came along – and became an even bigger hit, pulling in almost $169 million at the global box office, a number that was up there with the series’ heyday, when the first Scream and Scream 2 made just over $170 million. (Scream 3 also made over $160 million – only Scream 4 failed to crack $100 million.) So, of course, the companies are moving full steam ahead with Scream 7. While the movie seemed, initially, to be on the fast-track to success, the track it’s on has turned out to be a shockingly bumpy ride.

Nicola Coughlan opened up about her support for Palestine and how she was told it could affect the acting gigs she’s offered.
In a Teen Vogue cover story, the Bridgerton star sat down to discuss the show’s upcoming and highly anticipated season three. In the conversation, she also got candid about her support for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Coughlan has been vocal on social media about her support for the people, especially the children, of Palestine, who are caught in the middle of the Israel-Hamas War. She acknowledged her support stems from a “moral responsibility to give back” because of her privilege as a white woman.
The actress noted her advocacy began before she landed her breakout role on Derry Girls. She was involved in different causes, like going door-to-door campaigning for marriage equality in her home country of Ireland and marching for abortion rights.

It was announced two weeks ago that Paramount is resurrecting the Scary Movie spoof franchise with a brand new reboot movie, which will likely arrive in theaters next year.
The new movie, a joint venture between Paramount and Miramax that will technically be the sixth installment in the franchise, is expected to go into production this coming Fall.
We don’t yet know who will be writing, directing or starring in the Scary Movie reboot, but two actors in particular have already expressed an interest in joining the franchise.
The first is Melissa Barrera, who can currently be seen in theaters in Radio Silence’s bloody horror movie Abigail. Barrera is of course also the star of Scream and Scream VI, which kind of makes her a perfect candidate to lampoon herself in a Scary Movie reboot.

This past weekend was, without a doubt, one that several studios and pretty much every movie theater around the country (and much of the world for that matter) would like to forget. Several new releases hit theaters, including Guy Ritchie's "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," as well as Crunchroll's latest anime film, "Spy x Family Code: White." It was, however, Universal Pictures' horror/comedy "Abigail" that was the most high-profile release of the bunch. While the film did perform better than the other debuts, it fell well short of expectations and further cemented a point that has been quietly lingering for some time: Vampires are not generally good for business these days.
"Abigail" opened to just $10.2 million, coming in second place over the weekend to Alex Garland's "Civil War," which pulled in $11.1 million in its second frame. Overall, it was one of the worst weekends at the box office in 2024 to date.

Melissa Barrera had the lead role of Samantha Carpenter in the 2022 Scream film and its follow-up Scream VI, and she was all set to reprise the role in Scream 7… until she was fired from the project after comments she made about the Israel-Hamas war didn’t go over well with executives at Spyglass Media. Now Barrera, who can currently be seen on the big screen in the vampire movie Abigail, has revealed that she’s interested in doing something no other major Scream star has done before: she would like to cross over into the Scary Movie parody franchise, which got started with a movie that used the first Scream as a major source of inspiration, by landing a role in the recently announced Scary Movie 6.

A24’s dystopian thriller “Civil War” conquered the box office again, fending off three new releases to retain the top spot on North American charts.
Alex Garland’s film, starring Kirsten Dunst as a photojournalist who traverses a violently divided United States, added $11.12 million in its second weekend of release. It has generated $44.8 million so far and already stands as one of A24’s top five highest-grossing movies of all time. With a $50 million price tag, it’s also the indie distributor’s most expensive film to date.
Though it was a close race, “Civil War” charged ahead of a trio of newcomers — Universal’s vampire horror film “Abigail,” director Guy Ritchie’s “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” and Sony and Crunchyroll’s anime adventure “Spy x Family Code: White” — which all opened to mixed results.
Heading into the weekend, “Abigail” was predicted to top the box office with $12 million to $15 million in its debut.

Just as audiences may have finally finished cleaning off the blood splatter from Ready or Not and the two most recent Scream films, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have returned to the big screen with Abigail. And staying true to what horror fans have come to expect from their previous efforts, Abigail is a high-octane, high-energy horror film that pulls no punches or fangs, making for another scary good time at the cinema.

Although many horror films may telegraph their intentions in explicit detail, there are often films in the genre that seek to weave in and out of the genre’s confines to create a sort of hybrid film that straddles multiple genres. Not many do so successfully. The film Abigail, however, is one of the rare ones that does, thanks to some solid direction and two distinctive lead performances.
The caper begins innocently enough as a cadre of criminals execute the kidnapping of the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of an underworld gangster. Upon delivery of the girl to an isolated mansion, they are told they must keep an eye on the girl overnight to collect their $50 million payout. This seems simple enough, that is, until they discover what they are holding captive is no ordinary little girl.

Radio Silence Talk ‘Abigail,’ Their ‘Scream’ Exit and Trying to Make ‘The Shining’ Elevators Jealous
Abigail has been a long time coming for Radio Silence, the filmmaking collective consisting of co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin/Tyler Gillett and producer Chad Villella.
Coming off of their successful relaunch of the Scream franchise in 2022, the team strived to make another film before they returned to Ghostface. One idea was a feature now known as Abigail, but they ultimately ended up shooting Scream VI instead, as Scream rights holder Spyglass Media was eager to keep the momentum going. And together, they did just that, as Scream VI went on to set domestic box office records for the franchise.
Still, Abigail never left Radio Silence’s minds. As they were making Scream VI, the team was also preparing to do the ballerina vampire pic immediately after they finished promoting Scream VI’s March 2023 release. After all, they’d just put out two Scream movies within a 14-month period, so it’s...

Melissa Barrera may have been fired from the “Scream” series, but she’s still very much a part of the franchise’s “family.”
Several “Scream” actors, including Mason Gooding, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich, attended the Los Angeles premiere of Barrera’s new horror movie, “Abigail” Wednesday night. “Abigail” is helmed by “Scream” (2022) and “Scream 6” co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence.

For a significant portion of its running time, the new film from the directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (better known as Radio Silence) plays like a hard-boiled crime drama. In its opening scenes, we see a rag-tag team of criminals prepare for and then commit the kidnapping of a 12-year-old girl. First seen dancing ballet by herself in an empty theater, she obviously comes from wealth, getting into a chauffeured limousine after her exertions. The kidnappers, who’ve dubbed her “Tiny Dancer,” manage to snatch her away and bring her to a secluded mansion, where they’re greeted by their mysterious organizer (Giancarlo Esposito), who gives them fake names inspired by the members of the Rat Pack (Frank, Joey, Dean, etc.). So far, so Quentin Tarantino.

Talk about nepotism. “Abigail,” a blood-sucking thriller about the daughter of Dracula, arguably the most famous vampire in history, is poised to lead at the domestic box office.
The R-rated movie, from Universal Pictures, is aiming for $12 million to $15 million from 3,300 North American theaters in its first weekend of release. But “Abigail” first has to fend off last weekend’s champion, A24’s “Civil War,” before taking the box office crown. The provocative thriller debuted last weekend with $25.8 million and looks to bring in $10 million to $12 million in its sophomore outing.
Based on projections, “Abigail” will, however, dance circles around two fellow newcomers, director Guy Ritchie’s “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” and Crunchyroll’s anime adventure “Spy x Family Code: White.” Those films are targeting $5 million to $6 million, though rivals have pegged ticket sales ever-so-slightly higher at $8 million.
