Over three seasons and a total of 34 episodes, Ted Lasso brought us moments of comedy mixed with genuine emotion. It was the ultimate feel-good show, filled with well-rounded characters, great dialogue and a story of hope that we could all get behind.
Okay, it may have gotten a little cheesy at times. But it was a show that knew what it was and didn't take itself too seriously. Balancing that with sincerity was one of its strengths and helped the show earn a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
But it ain't coming back.
However, if Ted Lasso was right up your alley, this Apple TV+ series, which has a 93% rating on Rt, is a must-see.
Smart, authentic, and thoroughly bingeable, the show leaves the original movie in its wake

It’s been a minute since we checked in on Máximo, old and young, and Las Colinas. Actually, it’s been like 16 months in the real world, which is why it was a wise choice for the “Acapulco” Season 3 trailer to open with the exposition it did.
Máximo (Eugenio Derbez): “Hugo, do you remember where my rags-to-riches life story left off? It all started with a job as Las Colinas. I told you about my big promotion and Julia and I getting together — but there’s still so much more I haven’t told you.”
Smash Cut To: Season 2’s big cliffhanger moment. Oh that’s right, (old) Máximo has a grownup daughter we didn’t even know about. The trailer doesn’t really get into that storyline, but certainly the season will.

Lionsgate Television just eliminated more than half of its development deals, IndieWire has confirmed. The reduction comes after Lionsgate’s $375 million acquisition of eOne from Hasbro. The eOne purchase, which on the television side brought over “Yellowjackets” and other series, mixed with general industry contraction in the post-Peak TV era, rationalized the sweeping cuts.
Lionsgate executives conducted a two-months-long review of the Lionsgate Television and eOne talent rosters, which together included nearly 60 overall and first-look deals. The number is now below 30; no names have been reported on either the “stay” or “go” side of the ledger.
Deadline first reported the news. A Lionsgate rep declined comment on this story.
It is pretty common for a company to slim down ahead of acquisition — just ask Paramount — but this round was pretty drastic. It is important to remember that during last year’s writers strikes, pretty much all overall deals were put on pause.

Hollywood veteran Edward James Olmos once offered a piece of sage advice to Eva Longoria in the 1990s when she was an extra on the set of “Selena” in her hometown of Corpus Christie, Texas. “Move to LA,” he told the young actress.

At Los Angeles’ historic Biltmore Hotel on Dec. 3, “Flamin’ Hot” swept the final three awards of the ceremony as Jesse García won best actor – feature film and Longoria won best director – feature film. Exclusive: Eugenio Derbez and the producers of the Apple TV+ series Acapulco, produced by Lionsgate TV and 3Pas Studios, are sending messages of support and a donation for humanitarian assistance to the titular Mexican city that was recently devasted by Hurricane Otis.
“Acapulco is a very special place to me,” said series star and executive producer Eugenio Derbez in an exclusive statement to Deadline. “Growing up I spent every summer there. Its energy, vitality and exuberance made a lifelong impression on me and was an inspiration for our show. My heart is breaking at what the hurricane has done to my beloved community, but I stand united with its people and know that its spirit will never be broken,” he added.
Hurricane Otis made landfall on the coastal city in the state of Guerrero as a massive Category 5 on October 25, becoming the strongest hurricane to hit Mexico’s Pacific Coast area.

LA Screenings Independents hosted a panel of leading U.S.-based Latino producers who held forth on the challenges of creating Latino projects from the heart of Hollywood.
Organized by C21 Media, the panel kicked off with Axel Kuschevatzky, director-owner of Infinity Hill, a producer of the Oscar-shortlisted “Argentina 1985,” who pointed out the asymmetry of the Latino experience in the U.S. entertainment biz, a persistent conundrum where 19% of the U.S. population is Latino, contributing an estimated $3.2 trillion to the economy, but where its representation on TV, streaming and theatrical hovers between 3%.and 5%.
“We’re earning a lot of money for a lot of people but we’re not reclaiming the business that comes along with it,” Kuschevatzky asserted.
They all acknowledged that Hollywood was undergoing a significant transition, given the writers’ strike and the reset among the streaming services, among other factors.

Remember the end of summer 2022, when Lionsgate was absolutely, undoubtedly going to sell Starz? Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer declared that a Starz sale would close by the end of March 2023, but there has been no visible interest in the streaming home of “P-Valley” and “Gaslit” since.

Lionsgate handily beat Wall Street estimates in its most recent fiscal quarter, as the company continued to explore spinning off or selling Starz, its cable and streaming business.
Revenue at the media company behind “The Hunger Games” and “John Wick” topped out at 1 billion, rising nearly 13 from the 885.4 million that Lionsgate reported in the prior-year period. Net income reached 16.6 million, an improvement on the loss of 45.6 million that Lionsgate reported in the same quarter last year. Operating income at the company hit 7.8 million, down more than 16 from 9.3 million in the prior-year period. Apple is booking another stay at the Las Colinas Resort. “Acapulco,” the Spanish- and English-language comedy series starring Eugenio Derbez, is renewed for a 10-episode third season.
The news comes a month after the show’s Season 2 finale, which premiered on the streamer December 16. The show premiered in October 2021, with both seasons consisting of 10 episodes. Season 3 will again consist of 10 episodes, and is scheduled to begin production later this spring.
“We at 3Pas Studios are thankful to Apple TV+, the perfect home for ‘Acapulco,’ along with our production partner Lionsgate, filmmakers and cast and crew,” Derbez said in a statement. “We have always believed that the stories we tell about our communities and cultures can resonate with global audiences, so crank up the AC, it’s about to get a lot hotter at Las Colinas Resort.”

ABC has placed a pilot order for Eddie Quintana’s single camera comedy “Public Defenders.”
“Up to their earholes in student loan debt, four inexperienced public defenders work tirelessly to keep their clients out of jail. Along the way, they have to rely on each other to navigate their first defendants, the absurd court system, and the copy machine that always jams,” reads the series logline, per ABC.
Quintana is the writer and executive producer behind the pilot, marking his second pilot ordered by ABC in the past two seasons. His pilot, “Grace,” received a cast-contingent pilot order last year. McG, Mary Viola and Corey Marsh of Wonderland Sound and Vision will also serve as executive producers. 20th Television is the studio.
Quintana most recently served as a producer on “Not Dead Yet,” ABC forthcoming series starring Gina Rodriguez as Nell Serrano, a broke and newly single journalist whose career...

It’s a refrain we’ve echoed many times across many of our best-of lists, but streaming services are usually not the greatest at letting people know the gold that rests within their own libraries. It’s true for TV series overall, but especially so for non-English-language programming.
Sometimes, a show becomes such a word-of-mouth hit that it becomes undeniable and the whole industry starts to take notice. But it’s often the case that some of the best shows on the major streaming platforms get added unceremoniously and only put in front more adventurous subscribers.
For those who want to alter their own personal algorithms and keep tabs on what under-the-radar treasures are out there, we’ve tried to put forth some options throughout the year. To add to that effort (and in the spirit of giving as many quality shows as possible the chance to bask in the...
