Da’Vine Joy Randolph only broke out in 2019, but she’s already one of the most talented actors in the business.
Born in 1986 to a Philadelphia family, Randolph has her roots in the theater; at Temple University, she initially studied classical vocal performance and opera, switching her major to musical theater. After graduation, she attended the Yale School of Drama, graduating in 2011 with a Master’s. Immediately out of school, she was cast in the Broadway musical adaptation of “Ghost: The Musical,” and her performance as medium Oda Mae Brown netted her a Tony Award nomination.
From there, Randolph became a regular face on TV and film, frequently playing bit roles in films and shows like “The Angriest Man in Brooklyn,” “Office Christmas Party,” “This Is Us,” “Veep,” “On Becoming a God in Central Florida,” and “Empire.” A main part in the short-lived 2014 series “Selfie” aside, none of these parts were particularly meaty.

There are diverse streaming releases slates and then there is Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2022. There are no big franchises here, no big themes – just a whole bunch of original and library titles for everyone to enjoy.
Hulu’s major original releases in May come in the middle of the month. Candy premieres on May 9 and stars Jessica Biel as your friendly neighborhood axe murderer. If that sounds a bit outlandish, bear in mind that this limited series is based on the real life story of Candy Montgomery and her victim, the tragically named Betty Gore. On May 15, Hulu will play host to Conversations with Friends. This is the latest adaptation of the works of Sally Rooney. After the breakaway success of Normal People, Hulu is undoubtedly hoping for more lightning in a bottle.

With Lovecraft Country still providing HBO and HBO Max with its horror content through October, the streamer is looking elsewhere for its spooky season offerings. HBO Max’s new releases for October 2020 feature some truly awesome horror library titles.
Jordan Peele’s Us, John Carpenter’s The Thing, and David Fincher’s Se7en all arrive on Oct. 1. That alone should be enough to last you through spooky season. And if it doesn’t, It: Chapter Two is right there as well. October is also a big month for Batman and Superman with Man of Steel arriving on Oct. 1 along with a whole of animated specials dropping that same day.
In relation to the library titles, this isn’t HBO Max’s strongest month from an original perspective. But there is still plenty to like here. The West Wing election special arrives on Oct. 15. That will be followed by David Byrne...

What will March bring to Netflix? Plenty of great TV shows, some killer recent and classic movies, and a slew of highly anticipated Netflix Originals.
First off, there's more amazing TV coming to Netflix in March than we've seen in the past six, with new seasons of "Mad Men," "Glee," and "Archer" coming to the streaming service. What's more? The complete series of "3rd Rock From the Sun" (Yes!) and "A Different World" are also being added. For the latter, I plan on queueing up some "very special episodes" that remind me of my childhood. Also, Marisa Tomei was on it. Remember?! In addition to the shows you know, some spankin' new Netflix Originals are being added: Tina Fey's half-hour comedy "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," starring "The Office's" Ellie Kemper, and "Bloodline," a dramatic thriller starring Oscar-winner Sissy Spacek.
In terms of movies, Netflix is not disappointing. Recent releases...

★★☆☆☆In the wake of Academy Award-winning American actor Robin Williams' tragic and untimely death last month, it was arguably the work outside of his zany and larger-than-life persona that fans responded to most whilst playing tribute to the man. Like those films, Phil Alden Robinson's adaptation of little-known Israeli film The 92 Minutes of Mr. Baum (1997), now entitled The Angriest Man in Brooklyn (2014) sees the late comedian once again playing against type, this time as the embittered character of the title. However, for all of Williams' best efforts, it's a film which is sadly destined to sit with those below-par efforts which have become increasing conspicuous towards the latter part of his career.

This might hurt some in the five boroughs to hear, but it’s possible that New York might be a little over-represented in modern film. It has it’s place, to be sure, but a quick survey of independent films produced in the last decade suggests an industry hell-bent on propagating an image of the Big Apple as the geographic embodiment of your friend who talks tough but has a ‘heart of gold’ (whatever that means). All too often, that image rings false, as it does here in The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, an ignominious swan song for Robin Williams. It does its best to have its political incorrectness and eat it too, but even people who’ve never visited will recognize its New York as a place that has never, ever existed.

It's amazing what you can find when you go through the archives. Mila Kunis was among the lucky ones who got to work with Robin Williams over the course of his storied, Oscar-winning career and, in previously unpublished remarks from an interview she gave during that time, she was already calling him a person who had made a lasting impression on her life with just a few words. Talking to Esquire in 2012, when she was shooting The Angriest Man in Brooklyn with Williams, Kunis recounted a story about meeting him when he was filming a scene on the same lot as That '70s Show one day—and she never forgot what he told her. She recently spoke out about the late Robin Williams, whom she recently worked with on The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, saying that he reminded her to step back and enjoy the special moments she has experienced. The Oscar-winning actor and stand-up comedian was found dead in the Bay Area home he shared with his wife Susan Schneider on Monday afternoon (August 11). He was 63.
Police said Williams’ death was an apparent suicide from asphyxia, adding that a forensic examination and toxicology report would take place on August 12.
Williams suffered from depression and had been vocal over the years about his cocaine and alcohol use. He checked himself back into a rehab clinic over the summer.
“Robin Williams passed away this morning,” Williams’ publicist Mara Buxbaum said in a statement. “He has been battling severe depression of late.
“This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”

Robin Williams, the Oscar-winning actor, who has been frank about his battles with alcohol and substance abuse, has checked into a facility in his ongoing quest to maintain his sobriety.
"After working back-to-back projects, Robin is simply taking the opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment, of which he remains extremely proud," Williams' rep tells E! News.
"This was totally planned and scheduled," a source tells us. "He's been working for about 18 months straight. He had some time off so is using it to do a check-in."
The 62-year-old funnyman most recently appeared on the big screen in the indie flick The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, costarring Mila Kunis, and he'll be reprising the role of Teddy Roosevelt in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, the third movie in the hit comedy franchise.

Robin Williams and Mila Kunis in The Angriest Man in Brooklyn
Robin Williams (Old Dogs) has a bad day—a helluva bad day—in the comedy drama The Angriest Man In Brooklyn.
Williams plays overly bitter man Henry Altmann, whose anger really kicks into gear when he learns from a doctor (Mila Kunis, Ted) that he has a brain aneurysm and has only 90 minutes to live. This news kicks the curmudgeonly Altman into motion, and he sets out to reconcile with his wife, brother and friends in the short time he believes he has left.
Co-starring Peter Dinklage (TV’s Game of Thrones) and Melissa Leo (Flight) and directed by Phil Alden Robinson (who hasn’t helmed a film since 2002’s The Sum of All Fears), the R-rated Angriest Man In Brooklyn opened to lot of negative reviews upon it limited theatrical rollout in May.

Yesterday, a pregnant Mila Kunis made an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," and she wasn't too happy with the host. In a funny (but honest) segment, Kunis becomes peeved with Kimmel after he mentions that he and his wife are also pregnant. She removes her mike, stands up and gives a great PSA on why men are not and will never be pregnant. Read More: Tom Cruise Breaks Jimmy Fallon's Face During 'The Tonight Show' She brings up a bunch of solid points to consider, and starts off by saying, "Do you have to squeeze a watermelon-sized person out of your lady hole?" Kunis' latest film, "The Angriest Man in Brooklyn" is in theaters now. Check out her impassioned argument for why men should stop staying they're pregnant below.

Today it is BroadwayWorld's extreme honor to bring you an exclusive and extensive discussion with one of the finest American actors in history all about his legendary career onstage and on screens large and small - the commanding and versatile two-time Tony Award-winning and Academy Award-winning James Earl Jones. Touching upon much of his internationally regarded iconography as well as looking ahead to current and future endeavors, Jones eloquently expresses his observations on acting, art, humanity and life itself. Focusing on the ScreenVision presentation of Alfred Uhry's Driving Miss Daisy starring opposite fellow icon and InDepth InterView participant Dame Angela Lansbury, Jones astutely outlines the themes of the touching Southern drama depicting the unlikely friendship between an uptight society woman and her dedicated chauffer as well as opens up about his own experiences with culture clashes and race in his life. Additionally, Jones juxtaposes his observations of working alongside...

A great deal can change in twelve years. Societal shifts adjust the mindset we have when consuming all aspects of entertainment. Certain approaches that previously worked will grow tired and played out. With that in mind director Phil Alden Robinson had a challenge in front of him as he is directing his first film since Sum of All Fears in 2002.
Perhaps the twelve year gap was too much of a hurdle to leap, because The Angriest Man in Brooklyn is nowhere near the quality of what you would expect from the guy who gave us wonderful films like Field of Dreams and Sneakers. Nearly every part is miscast causing each actor to be constantly at odds with their roles. Tonally...

Prognosis Negative: Robinson’s Return a Detached, Tepid Exercise
His first outing since the ill-fated 2002 film The Sum of All Fears, director Phil Alden Robinson’s latest, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, is a remake of a 1997 Israeli film, The 92 Minutes of Mr. Baum, which happened to be part of a trilogy directed by Assi Dayan. At first appearing to be a black comedy about miserable, self-pitying human beings, a not-so-subtle message about the importance of family, enjoying one’s time and appreciating the preciousness of life, eventually cascades over the slim narrative, rendering any emotional or comedic potency to absolute zero. With a running time of about 80 minutes, this treatment still feels padded with moments that feel utterly useless because they’re not fully developed or simply used as a matter of convenience.

Remaining largely under the radar despite some big names, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn is hitting shelves on July 22nd. Running with a gimmick-focused plot, the film features Robin Williams as an extremely angry, unhappy man who suddenly believes he only has 90 minutes to live. That will change your perspective on things, and he tears around New York trying to manage some closure, while the doctor (Mila Kunis) who gave him the false news in retaliation to his hateful demeanor tries to track him down.
Though a film that did not win over a lot of critics, potential viewers may want to take that with a grain salt. It’s just not that sort of movie. It celebrates obnoxious, self-centered, cranky behavior in an effort to speak through hyperbole, and that’s not the kind of effort that is aimed at a wide demographic.
Keep this one on your radar though,...

Phil Alden Robinson, who once gave us Sneakers and Field of Dreams (which could have been titled The Nicest Man in Iowa), has not directed a movie since the so-so 2002 studio flick The Sum of All Fears. (Remember that old attempt to turn Ben Affleck into a franchise hero?) So it’s a bit odd to see him now going the indie route with The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, even if it’s with an all-star cast. The film stars Robin Williams as, well, a really angry man whose fury at the world is compounded and complicated when he finds out he’s dying. On paper, it’s an interesting conceit. Williams has been looking to rediscover his “edge” for some years now, so at times the film reads like an attempt to fuse the actor’s darker persona with the cuddly-wuddly side that once churned out insufferable hits like Patch Adams.

Henry Altmann (Robin Williams) is an angry man. When it’s not subwoofers getting his goat it’s car alarms, Atm service fees and fat people. When it’s not 99-cent stores it’s hamsters, ass-crack fashion and God. Henry’s goat gets got a lot. Today is no different, but as one bad thing leads to the next they’re capped off by a visit to the doctor’s office where he discovers he has a brain aneurysm. Dr. Sharon Gill (Mila Kunis), flustered by his obvious rage at this latest slap in the face from the universe, accidentally on purpose tells him he only has ninety minutes to live. He leaves the office intent on making those minutes count by mending his relationship with his son, spending time with friends and fornicating with his wife, but circumstance and his ongoing anger issues keep getting in the way. "X-Men: Days of Future Past" has been called an X-Men crossover, as "The Dissolve" critic Matt Singer says: "Like Days Of Future Past, crossovers in comics tend to be light on character development. But when they're good, the huge stakes and epic scale of the action make them hard to put down" -- and this is precisely that sort of "can't look away" crossover: one that's both entertaining and remarkably well acted. What else can you expect from a cast that includes two Sirs (and off-camera BFFs) Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto; four Academy Award nominees, James McAvoy as young Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as young Erik Lehnsherr, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and Ellen Page as Kitty; and let's not forget the two Oscar winners, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven/Mystique and Halle Berry as Storm; and the one and only Tyrion, Peter Dinklage as the film's entrepreneurial anti-mutant villain.

I love Robin Williams, but he’s almost too good an actor to play the title role in The Angriest Man in Brooklyn: his fury is so palpable that it’s actually hard to watch. That might work if the film were a farce, but this modest new release doesn’t seem to know what chord to strike: it veers wildly from madcap farce to social satire to sentimental family drama. Williams plays a Jewish lawyer who’s angry at the world in general, not entirely without reason. When he encounters a stressed-out doctor (Mila Kunis) who has the unenviable task of telling him he has a brain aneurism, he so berates her that she impulsively tells him he only has an hour and a half to live. That shocking news...
