"Shut your mouth and pull the trigger!" Saban Films has revealed the official trailer for a cowboy bandits western thriller titled The Outlaws, an indie film directed by Joey Palmroos & Austen Paul. Though not to be confused with the British series The Outlaws or the Korean action film The Outlaws, this was originally titled 5 Outlaws until the name was changed to this vastly more generic, easily forgettable title. (They need to stop doing this.) A group of outlaws wake up to their loot bag from their train heist being empty. Each cowboy, hand tight to the bag, hanging on in the middle of the camp starts to interrogate each other on who among them stole the loot. With no witnesses, just the rugged nature, the wild west. Each outlaw now needs to try to convince the others, clear their name, and not get shot in the process, trying to...

As ever more Portuguese directors plan their first animated feature, Annecy is staging a timely Tribute to Portuguese Animation, its 2024 Country of Honor, with a seven section spread of key titles.
Variety has made its own selection of that selection, profiling modern milestones such as Abi Feijo’s “The Outlaws” and José Miguel Ribeiro’s “The Suspect” and taking in Regina Pessoa’s “Uncle Thomas, Accounting for the Days,” the dazzling 2D of Bap, Zagreb Animafest winner “The Garbage Man” and Oscar-nominated ‘Ice Merchants.”
There’s a larger narrative to the titles: the step-by-step and very often collaborative growth of a craft industry of social point and high artistic ambition prized at home and ever more abroad.
As multiple leading lights of the Portugal’s animation industry contemplate feature film creation, Annecy’s Tribute is a reminder of what Portugal has already achieved.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Outlaws Season 3.] The Outlaws third season raised the stakes on Prime Video as the titular group of minor criminals found themselves at the center of drug kingpin The Dean’s (Claes Bang) crosshairs. As the episodes unfolded though, the collection of community payback friends and their officer Diane (Jessica Gunning) managed to outsmart the big bad criminal as they obtained the proper evidence to help keep The Dean in prison despite his season-long attempt to free himself. But will there be more to this story? “Well, I’d never say never, but certainly I feel like this does conclude very pleasingly,” series creator, star, director, and writer Stephen Merchant tells TV Insider. “Whenever I finish a project, I’m so burnt out that the idea of returning to that seems impossible to me. But I do like the characters enormously and the world.” Alistair Heap Still, Merchant makes a...

One of the greatest fears of many actors is being typecast after a successful role. It just so happens that after seeing an actor do a great job as a certain character once, casting directors all over Hollywood want them to do the same thing again and bring the same level of success to their project.
Sometimes, however, the similarities between two characters an actor plays are nothing more than coincidence. Such is the case with Baby Reindeer star Jessica Gunning and the obsessive personalities of her characters in other series.
Is Jessica Gunning in The Outlaws Season 3?
Of course, after Jessica Gunning's brilliant performance in the black comedy-thriller Baby Reindeer, which blew up the top of Netflix and stayed there for weeks, audiences were looking for more TV shows and movies starring the actress. And to the viewers’ surprise, there weren't too many options.

Despite a cast that includes “The Office” co-creator Stephan Merchant, potential new Bond Claes Bang, and national treasure Christopher Walken, crime comedy “The Outlaws” has largely flown under the radar since debuting on Amazon in 2022. But now “Baby Reindeer” has alerted the rest of the world to the talents of Jessica Gunning, its third season, premiering May 31, should both attract a deservedly bigger audience and continue its regular scene-stealer’s meteoric rise.
The continuation of the saga involving seven petty criminals who become embroiled in a dangerous drug money-laundering scheme while undergoing community service was filmed prior to Martha Scott, and the memeable real-life Scotswoman she was apparently based upon, dominating the cultural discourse. Yet in a timely development, Gunning’s supervisor Diane Pemberley is given much more prominence, and indeed more layers, this time around.

Rani broke up with Ben in the previous season, and while it was tough on Ben, he did end up doing what he had planned. Ben started a food truck, and he found himself drawn to the receptionist working at the hotel right across his establishment. Tori too enjoyed Ben’s company, and things were perfect between them until Rani showed up. Meanwhile, Myrna came across her old flame, Sean, at the airport, and he convinced her that they deserved a second chance. On one hand, Greg’s new relationship was not in its best form, and on the other hand, Gabby was quite happy with her present girlfriend. But due to health reasons,...

Created by Stephen Merchant and Elgin James, the first two seasons of The Outlaws delivered a perfect balance of humor and drama, and the performances were top-notch. And while season 3 is not the strongest of the lot, the characters are entertaining enough to spend a few hours with. A group of misfits from different walks of life were brought together by community service. The characters had engaged in minor offenses, and as a form of compensation, they were assigned community service. But instead of their lives getting any easier, they found themselves drawn into bigger trouble. Sooner than expected, these small-time offenders were dealing with notorious drug lords and the threat to their lives escalated. While the characters were starkly different from each other, they were united by one common factor—they were all in one way or another at the lowest points of their lives. They could relate to each other’s struggles,...

The Outlaws is almost back for Season 3 and a lot has changed for one of the show’s key players as star Jessica Gunning receives ongoing acclaim for her role in Baby Reindeer. As the group, including Greg (Stephen Merchant), Rani (Rhianne Barreto), Ben (Gamba Cole), John (Darren Boyd), Myrna (Clare Perkins), and Lady Gabby (Eleanor Tomlinson), gets into more trouble with drug kingpin The Dean (Claes Bang), Diane may or may not find herself swept up in crime chaos. Prime Video‘s ragtag team of community paybackers, known affectionately as The Outlaws, gear up for an all-new adventure in Bristol as their Season 2 plan to frame the ruthless drug lord known as The Dean (Claes Bang) backfires. “We’re picking up about six months after the previous series,” creator, director, writer, and star Stephen Merchant tells TV Insider about the action. “This group of relatively ordinary people have [sent The Dean] to court and he’s awaiting trial, but there’s now a threat that he might get off by corrupting the case.” When shoplifter Rani (Rhianne Barreto) shows up with a dead body in the back of her car though, moving on with their lives is next to impossible. “They’re dragged back into the thriller story that they thought they’d escaped,” Merchant says of the community payback group. Comedy producers have been told to locate their “funny bones” when pitching shows to the BBC by the most powerful person in British comedy commissioning.
Jon Petrie, who runs BBC comedy, set out his “firmly sitcoms first” stall in a speech this morning in Glasgow.
He urged producers to “send us less shows that are ‘an exploration’ of something and more that know where their funny bones are,” citing the likes of Ghosts, Motherland and Two Doors Down as examples of the “comedy first proposals” he is after.
Petrie has not held back on his desire for sitcoms since taking on the job a couple of years ago and announced a raft of new and returning shows this morning at the BBC Comedy Festival.
But he said his team is “not getting pitched enough of the comedy we need to keep people happy” and is instead over-stocked with dramedies, which...

Every time a TV show comes to an end, it's a good time to look back at the story and see what could have been done better. In many cases, the finale comes a few seasons too late, as the writers try to salvage the story and keep viewers interested, but fall flat at every other attempt.
There aren't many shows that have the guts to make a decision and leave in their prime, but every time it happens, viewers should make sure to watch it as a reminder of how real talent cares about not having their work messed with. From what it looks like, The Outlaws is now going to join this list.

Jessica Gunning is having a moment.
The veteran actress has earned raves for playing unhinged stalker Martha in Netflix’s critically acclaimed limited series Baby Reindeer opposite Richard Gadd. It’s a part she’s embracing as the role of a lifetime, but she’s no overnight sensation. West Yorkshire native Gunning, 38, has been acting ever since graduating from drama school at London’s Rose Bruford College with a long list of credits that includes Doctor Who, White Heat, The Outlaws and Pride.
Baby Reindeer, created by and starring Gadd as inspired by his traumatic real life experiences, casts him as Donny Dunn, a struggling comedian who encounters a lonely woman at the bar where he works. The chance encounter, during which he offers her a free cup of tea, spirals over several months as Gunning’s Martha is revealed to be a dangerous, serial stalker. Gunning recently stopped by...

It’s Beast Cop vs Bitcoin in the fourth instalment of Ma Dong-seok’s enduringly popular Roundup action franchise, as his hulking detective goes toe-to-toe with a tech-savvy crime syndicate looking to expand into crypto. The series, which began with 2017’s The Outlaws, sets itself apart from the endless procession of boiler-plate crime thrillers to emerge from Korea in recent years, by giving each instalment a uniquely international flavour. The BBC has unveiled a landmark natural history series on insects as its head of unscripted brands the notion that the streamers are taking over “utter bollocks.”
The Traitors commissioner Kate Phillips talked tough on the BBC’s place in the ecosystem at Creative Cities Convention, citing research that BBC iPlayer is watched by more people in the UK than Disney+, Prime Video and Netflix combined. “This idea that broadcasters are irrelevant and streamers are taking over is utter bollocks,” she said. “More than nine out of 10 adults access the BBC in the UK.”
Notably, Phillips was speaking a session after Grant Mansfield, the EP behind Disney+’s most-watched natural history series of all time, A Real Bug’s Life, who had called on indies to embrace opportunities in the States.

“Most British producers will find themselves very welcome in America.”
That is the verdict of Grant Mansfield, the head of A Real Bug’s Life and Tiny World producer Plimsoll, who, along with ITV Studios boss Julian Bellamy, attempted to paint a glass-half-full portrait of the state of the UK production industry amid doom and gloom proclamations at the Creative Cities Convention.
Mansfield said he “understands the negative mood music” but posited that “the transformational thing [for UK producers] is international,” as he revealed that 90% of Plimsoll’s commissions come from outside the UK.
“The whole business of what your market is has become more porous and most British producers wil find themselves very welcome in America,” said Mansfield. “They are incredibly respectful and knowledgeable of the UK market.”

The UK Labour Party has set out its plan for the film and TV industries, drawing a dividing line between itself and the ruling Conservatives as it slams the government for “getting themselves all tied up in culture wars of their own making and failing to support a pipeline of talent.”
Delivering her first major set-piece at the Creative Cities Convention, Shadow Culture Secretary Thangam Debbonaire said she will “not be fighting culture wars” but instead will focus on arts and culture being central to Labour’s “Phase One” plan if it gets into office. Her boss, Labour leader Keir Starmer, is plotting “a decade of national renewal in Britain.” The election is expected later this year and Labour is currently sitting around 20 points ahead of the Conservatives in the polls.
Debbonaire set out Labour’s position in thorny areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), the BBC and the ailing freelance workforce.

The director of Mr Bates vs the Post Office has urged the creation of a “mechanism” for British broadcasters to continue to tell campaigning stories as he communicates a desire for his smash ITV drama not to become a “unicorn.”
Since Mr Bates aired in January, James Strong said he has been contacted by “loads and loads of people asking for help, from small stories to [scandals about] corporate structures.”
“I think it’s about setting up a mechanism so that all these issues can be represented,” he told the Creative Cities Convention. “[People affected] can go to a broadcaster and say, ‘We’ve got this idea, can we make a drama?’.”
The BAFTA nominee, whose past credits include Vigil and Doctor Who, said Mr Bates “shouldn’t be a unicorn” and urged British broadcasters to support “factual stories.”
