Model and actress Brande Roderick was a Playboy Playmate, played Leigh Dyer on the Baywatch TV series, and competed on a couple seasons of The Apprentice. Now she has made her feature directorial debut with the horror film Wineville, which she also stars in, and while making the movie she was drawing inspirations from ’70s genre classics like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Last House on the Left.
Written by Richard Schenkman (Mischief Night), who also produced the film with Roderick, Robin DeMartino, and Todd Slater, Wineville is a 1970s-set thriller that sees Roderick taking on the role of Tess Lott, a woman who escaped her abusive father as a teen. Now she returns as a single mother to her family’s vineyard after her father’s death to sort out her inheritance, only to discover the dark secrets and painful memories she left behind return as a murderous legacy sparking violence and death.

Launching a new horror franchise is almost always a heavy lift, but several memorable properties have been successfully introduced over the past few years and so far show little sign of fading, including the Insidious, Purge and Conjuring/Annabelle series. The Bye Bye Man apparently seeks to join this group, but by attempting to lay claim to the iconic Friday the 13th release date sets the bar at a challenging height.

From what we can gather from this trailer, and the one that came out back in April, the Bye Bye Man is some sort of supernatural malevolent being who is activated when you say, or even think, his name. (Apologies for dooming you just now.) The apparition, played by Doug Jones, appears to enjoy skulking in shadows, photobombing family snapshots, and trying on people’s clothes while they sleep. If only that was all he was interested in: Unfortunately, he’s also the inspiration for all, or at least most, of the random awfulness in the world. So anytime somebody murders their family or steps in front of moving train, you can assume the Bye Bye Man was probably involved somehow.

It's the horror news no one was waiting to hear, but according to Snoop Dogg there will be a Hood of Horror sequel. Cue collective groan. The 2006 flick, directed by Stacy Title, was essentially a ghetto version of "Tales From The Crypt" with three tales of terror told by the Hound of Hell (Snoop Dogg) that revolve around the residents of an inner-city neighborhood whose actions determine where they will go in the afterlife. Hood of Horror also starred Danny Trejo and Daniella Alonso. Bloody Disgusting's Australian correspondent Maria Lewis spoke to the "dee oh double gee" when he was Down Under promoting his new album, "Doggumentary." The rapper/actor said a sequel was something they were "definitely" considering.

In this week’s Confused Views, Matt describes his fruitless and often frightening attempts to interview Rob Zombie...
I feel like I'm stuck in a no win situation. For several months now, I've been submitting interviews to the Den Of Geek editors and for several months they've refused to publish any of them.
At first I assumed that it was because I was interviewing random people on the street and asking them questions that could, in the right circumstances, be used to have me convicted of a surprisingly wide variety of crimes. I blame the times. What, these days, isn't considered saucily haranguing an old lady?
Sensing that this could be the problem, I started submitting interviews with famous actors, writers and directors and they featured nothing but appropriate questions for the site. I had some big names, too, and we would have been able to break some pretty incredible stories.

From the press release:
Gay Adult Superstar Brent Corrigan Wraps Leading Role In Tim Sullivan’S Mainstream Horror-comedy“Chillerama: I Was A Teenage Werebear”
Gay adult superstar Brent Corrigan has just wrapped the leading role in writer/director Tim Sullivan’s segment of the horror-comedy anthology feature film “Chillerama”. Homage to the Drive-In movies of the50’s and 60’s, “Chillerama” is collaboration between Sullivan and fellow filmmakers Adam Rifkin (“Detroit Rock City”), Adam Green (“Hatchet”) and Joe Lynch (“Wrong Turn 2”).
“Each one of us is doing homage to a different genre and style,” explained Sullivan. “I choose the surf musicals of the 60’s crossed with “Lost Boys”and “Twilight”. As a gay man, I’ve always been drawn to the queer subtext in films depicting teenage angst, whether it be James Dean’s relationship to Sal Mineo in “Rebel Without a Cause” or Zac Efron’s emotional tug...

Ben Hibon, the man behind the animated sequence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, is about to make his feature film directorial debut with Pan. The film will be based on a script by Ben Magid and is a fantasy-thriller re-imagining on Peter Pan. The story follows Captain Hook, a haunted police detective, as he hunts down a childlike kidnapper. The film was originally set to have Guillermo del Toro direct for New Line, but that was a few years ago.
The project is now being backed by Social Capital Films and Energy Entertainment, with casting currently underway and shooting to star next fall in European locations. The producers are Christopher Tuffin, Martin Shore (the two previously teamed on Hood of Horror and 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams) and Brooklyn Weaver (The Number 23).

The biggest baddest film festival on the planet, the Cannes Film Festival will soon be upon us in two weeks and I have to ask the question that I’ve ask every year: Why aren’t we at Cannes? We, meaning African-American filmmakers.
True, there are always a few here and there every year (Lee Daniels for example last year), but not even remotely in numbers as other filmmakers. Latino filmmakers, Asian filmmakers, filmmakers from every far flung country around the globe are there in force. And I’m not even mentioning African filmmakers who are at Cannes every year in massive force even holding an annual party and major events at Cannes every year. But not African American filmmakers. Why not?
AA filmmakers I’ve talked to who have been at Cannes have told me how AA filmmakers are pathetically underrepresented at the festival. One filmmaker told me that the year she was there,...

It’s not often in the world of horror you can use the term wunderkind, but J.D. Lifshitz might be just that and then some. At 17 years old, Lifshitz is anything but your average teenager. He recently finished filming his first feature film, Killed on the Fourth of July, during the summer of 2009 after writing the script and securing independently-raised funding alongside his partner Josh Adams.
Now, in the midst of editing his first foray into writing/directing professionally, Lifshitz took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to us about how he got his start, his film Killed on the Fourth of July, and what he thinks about joining the ranks alongside many of his horror heroes.
Lifshitz’s fascination with the macabre started when he was just two years old (he’s making movies at 17, it’s not at all surprising that he’d start appreciating...

Rapper Snoop Dogg discovered he's not as black as he thinks he is on late night TV in America on Thursday, January 15 - an official DNA test proved he's only 71 percent sub-Saharan African. The hitmaker agreed to swab his saliva prior to his appearance on chat show "Lopez Tonight" and was shocked with the genealogy results that came back.
He's six percent European and 23 percent Native American - but he has no Asian in him. Stunned he wasn't more than 80 percent African, he quipped, "We got to have a re-vote. This ain't right."
Aside from the DNA test, Grammy Award nominated-rapper Snoop Dogg released his debut record "Doggystyle" on November 23, 1993 and just outed his tenth studio album "Malice N Wonderland" on December 8, 2009. In addition to his singing career, he has played in several movies such as "Hood of Horror", "Soul Plane" and "Brothers".

Next Tuesday, Snoop Dogg will unleash his latest studio effort when Malice N Wonderland hits the streets. Marking his return to Priority Records, Malice is Snoop's first album of all-original material since 2008's Ego Trippin, and is a return to some familiar territory, steeped within a story-driven concept. No stranger to genre fare with Bones and Snoop Dogg's Hood Of Horror to his credit, the new album finds the rapper taking on the role of Malice, which Rolling Stone describes as a "Batman-with-corn rows character who attempts to reassemble his old crew of troublemakers to help overthrow the dictator of Wonderland". Fangoria Musick has the trailer for the "mini movie" (set for a 2010 release) below, along with the first music video "I Want to Rock."
The entire Malice N Wonderland album is now up for streaming on Snoop's MySpace page, and you can pre-order the album by clicking here.

So it’s April. It’s the Los Angeles stop of this past year’s Fango Weekend of Horrors. In the midst of experiencing L.A. and being so close to this horror industry for the first time, I’m standing at the Fangoria booth just kind of throwing words around with attendees and colleagues, about movies, music, comics and well, geek stuff.
Up to the table comes the young J.D. Lifshitz, who, now 17, was a 16 year old kid in a short sleeved button down, a baseball cap and surprising knowledge of all things horror (it’s nice when the kids have had some history lessons). After high fiving over many joint favorite films and the fact that we’re both from New York, J.D. tells me about his slasher script, which he’s all gung ho that he’ll make. I tell him if he ever gets...

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: The Skeptic (currently available via video-on-demand and opening in limited theatrical engagements in New York today and Albany and Los Angeles later in May from IFC) is about a man who inherits an old house from his aged aunt after she dies. He decides to move into the creepy old place and…
What, already? Hold on, I’ve only just started.
The reason Bryan Becket (Tim Daly) chooses to relocate into the manse is that things are strained at home with his wife Robin (Andrea Roth). That’s because Bryan, a lawyer by trade, is what a character in the beat-you-over-the-head script by director Tennyson Bardwell refers to as “one die-hard rationalist.” He has no room in his personality for sentiment (“You bet I’m unemotional!” he says at another choice moment), compares religious faith to belief in the Loch Ness...

With the March 31st DVD release of all "8 Films to Die For" from the 2009 After Dark Horrorfest III, we thought it might be fun to take a look back at the films previously offered through the first two Horrorfests in 2006 and 2007. Before you delve into the latest batch of frights from Courtney Solomon and Co., let's take a look back.

That niche of the horror genre focusing on inner-city terrors has been rife with real stinkers, to say the least. Roll on up to Blockbuster, where copies of Vampiyaz and Zombiez kick back in lounge chairs on the bottom of the video shelf deservedly collecting dust, and you’ll see what I mean. Leave it to Snoop Dogg to clean house and make amends for 2001’s Bones with Hood Of Horror, a vigorous and droll triumvirate of gore-drenched urban morality tales linked by a supernatural figure known as the Hound of Hell (played by you know who). Rather than attempt to slip Snoop into a new, untried skin à la Bones, Hood embraces his pop-culture personality without reserve, “Snoop speak” and all—but that’s just an added bizzle, er, bonus to what makes the film work. It actually has a certain level of smarts going for it, along with...

Long-known as a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, rapper/actor Method Man is a life-long horror fan and comic book collector, with a passionate love for the genre. He's jumped in front of the camera for an episode of 2003's Twilight Zone reboot, and appeared as himself in both Scary Movie 3 and the 2006 film Hood Of Horror. Last night, Fangoria's own Mistress Bekah caught up with the man who would be 'Meth at the New York Comic-Con and he shared his thoughts on what Fangoria means to him.
