Performer Patrick Stewart has won many commercial and critical accolades over the course of his 50 year career, but some of his more memorable roles have come on television. One of his most notable roles, that of Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation, saw him on the small screen for 8 years, proving his capability to lead a tv show.
Now Stewart is set to reprise that position again, as he will be playing the lead in the new Starz half-hour drama Blunt Talk. The role marks Stewart’s first time back in front of a tv camera since 2006’s Eleventh Hour, as his other television appearances in the interim have been voice-acting roles. The show’s description can be seen below.
A British newscaster moves to Los Angeles with his alcoholic manservant and the baggage of several failed marriages to host a sanctimonious talk show.

For any actor overlooked and underappreciated in his or her early days, take heart. Patrick Stewart has tales for you. Bypassed by the Royal Shakespeare Company twice while a young actor, he finally won the chance to understudy there and became a core member years later. Through the help of others, through his own perseverance, he became the noted star of today, earning the admiration and respect of actors of all generations. But he started humbly—in life and as an actor. He eventually garnered supporting roles on television, diligently building a résumé of fascinating characters, from the darkly silent Karla in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" through the scheming Sejanus in "I, Claudius." Then came his leading roles, creating Captain Picard on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," headlining his own series "Eleventh Hour," and playing Professor Xavier in the vast "X-Men" franchise. He has meanwhile been a gift to the theater,...

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.
I wasn't even aware that there was already a Fawlty Towers complete set out. Or maybe I knew it and forgot and didn't get reminded of it until I heard about the new remastered set that comes out tomorrow. I'm gonna get that.
I'm also tempted to get Vegas, just because I liked that show and haven't seen it in years. I hate these "Volume" sets though. Just give us the whole season!
Black Adder - Black Adder 1, II, III, IV, and V (All remastered) and Ultimate Edition Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman - Complete Series (New package) Eleventh Hour - Complete Series Faerie Tale Theatre - Bedtime Tales and Magical Tales

The American version of Eleventh Hour apparently only made it one season, though there are rumors of it getting picked up somewhere else. The Rufus Sewell led version was pretty good, and the show seemed a dream enterprise for CBS audiences, but it looks like it's done. While the show was pretty good, and Rufus Sewell really did a nice job, it didn't quite live up to the BBC original with Patrick Stewart. Stephen Gallagher seemed to understand the game a little better, the camerawork was quirky and unique, and Patrick Stewart is Patrick Stewart. For those who aren't in either loop, the show is about Dr. Ian Hood (in America it's Jacob Hood... go figure), who is a former physics professor and general genius. He works for the government now, with his special agent protector following in his wake, investigating science-related crimes.

The hard cold truth of television is that more often than not we find ourselves invested in series that ultimately don’t last more than a season or two at best. Nothing can be more discouraging and get our blood boiling than having our favorite, quality shows axed, especially when we see some of the trash that the networks keep, or have planned for the following year. With that said I figured it would be a good idea to put together a list of the shows that have been canceled from the 2008 - 2009 season. This list will include all of the broadcast network’s scripted shows that will not be returning, even if they were canceled at midseason (it may include some reality shows that were canceled as well). Also keep in mind that there are still a few shows whose fate has not yet been sealed. If one of...

In a formal presentation held on Wednesday, May 20, CBS announced its official Fall 2009 schedule. Among the highlighted ones are the pick-up of "Medium" which has been snubbed by NBC and the go-ahead on "NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service" spin-off which is titled "NCIS: Los Angeles".
CBS Studios which is behind "Medium" previously criticized NBC for canceling the show starring Patricia Arquette. "NBC's cancellation of 'Medium' is inexplicable to us," the statement said. "The ratings don't lie: 'Medium' outperforms many of NBC's renewed shows ... We believe the show has a significant future and await developments." It will be put on Fridays, sandwiched by "Ghost Whisperer" and "Numb3rs".
Meanwhile, "NCIS: Los Angeles" which was previously thought to be named "NCIS: Legend", focuses on a new batch of naval agents who have been introduced in an episode of "NCIS". LL Cool J is starring as Special Agent Sam Hanna,...

CBS unveiled a relatively stable primetime lineup to advertisers on Wednesday (May 20), a schedule featuring 18 returning shows to TV's most watched network. Despite that high retention, plus the cancellation of shows that other networks would have considered hits (R.I.P. "The Unit," "Eleventh Hour" and "Without a Trace"), CBS is not above tinkering. Only one night on CBS' new schedule remains unchanged, with big moves including the shift of freshman hit "The Mentalist" to Thursdays. The fall will see the addition of three new dramas and one new comedies. The dramas are led by the "NCIS" spinoff "NCIS: La,"...

Chicago – In a relatively shocking announcement as a part of fall schedule upfronts this week, CBS actually pulled the trigger on “Without a Trace,” a show that had reportedly gotten too expensive for the network. There were rumors that they may do the same with “Cold Case,” but that show will return with on-the-bubble shows “The New Adventures of Old Christine” and “Rules of Engagement” also being miraculously renewed and “Medium” being saved.
This Fall CBS adds the popular drama series Medium, starring Patricia Arquette, Fridays (9:00-10:00 Pm, Et/Pt), forming a hauntingly compatible two-hour block with Ghost Whisperer at 8:00 Pm.

News out of the 2009 Upfront week includes the fate of some older primetime series and more pilot pickups: • The CW will officially present its upfront on Thursday and in anticipation of its primetime schedule, approved the pilot dramas Melrose Place, Vampire Diaries and Beautiful Life. CBS Television Studios produces the new version of Melrose Place while Warner Bros. TV produces Vampire Diaries which is also based on Alloy's book series. Beautiful Life is from CBS Television Studios and Katalyst. • CBS is cancelling its military themed drama The Unit after four seasons (tho check below for it's syndication deal!) and its long-running drama Without a Trace after seven seasons, as well as frosh drama Eleventh Hour, cites THR. • Prior to its upfront presentation today, THR reports CBS is bringing back dramas Cold Case and Numb3rs and the comedies The New Adventures of Old Christine, Rules of Engagement and Gary Unmarried.

The nice thing about being the nation's most-watched network is that even shows that would probably get automatic 10-season pickups on other channels ends up at the waste basket when you're on top. But that's not good news for fans as CBS pulled the plug on "Eleventh Hour," a remake of the British series that had starred former "Star Trek: The Next Generation" star Patrick Stewart. It was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and seemed to be a slid winner in its timeslot, even though it was CBS' lowest-rated Thursday show. Also getting the scythe was "Reaper" on The CW, an expected move after the network pushed its second season well into the spring. "Eleventh Hour" premiered Oct. 9, the same night and same time as ABC's "Life on Mars." But in an unexpected twist, "Life on Mars" ...

The chopping block has been somewhat unkind to science fiction lately. Eleventh Hour is the latest show to get cancelled as reported by Entertainment Weekly columnist Michael Ausiello. I personally am saddened by this devastating news and…no I’m not really, but I’m sure there are the token few fans of the show that are mourning its loss, right? Anyone? Hello?!? Eleventh Hour was based on a British series and focused on a scientist (Rufus Sewell of Dark City fame) and an FBI agent (Marley Shelton of who the heck knows what) who investigated strange scientific phenomena. What with a fantastic premise like that how did this thing get cancelled?...

"Moonlight" fans' prayers have been answered: The show's star Alex O'Loughlin is back on CBS with the new medical drama "Three Rivers."
The network went mostly for star vehicles in its first new series picks for next season with "Rivers"; the "NCIS" spinoff, toplined by LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell; legal drama "The Good Wife," starring Julianna Margulies; and the Jenna Elfman-starring comedy "Accidentally on Purpose."
CBS also handed a series order to the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced ensemble medical drama "Miami Trauma," which has tapped Steve Maeda as exec producer/showrunner.
The network also has picked up unscripted series "Undercover Boss," a hidden-camera show based on a British format in which an executive goes undercover at his or her company.
As a precursor to the scripted series orders, the network during the weekend gave most of the projects a greenlight to start making offers to writers and directors.

In reading the annual "Save Our Shows" list from USA Today, it was no surprise to see "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" on Fox on the "dead or nearly dead" list and "Chuck" on NBC on the bubble list. But one show that is considered to be gone already is a bit of a surprise, as it's one of the genre's highest-rated network shows. "Eleventh Hour" on CBS, which one its early head-to-head battle with "Life On Mars" on ABC before that network moved it to after "Lost," has been placed on the network death list by the newspaper. CBS, which arguably has had the best season out of all the networks when it came to scripted programming, had just three shows on the death list, including "Worst Week" and "The Ex-List," both of which have already been canceled. Seeing "Eleventh ...

Survivor returned with a season-low 11.2 million total viewers, thanks in part to NBC's ER retrospective, which drew 10.56 mil. Bones placed third with 9 mil, a dip of 570K from its previous outing.
ABC's comedies were not laughing, as both In the Motherhood (5 mil) and Samantha Who? (4.8 mil) plunged 26 percent. Smallville (3.8 mil) saw a 50K uptick.

ER's two-hour (and rather awesome) series finale was the night's most-watched program, averaging 16.2 million viewers and even flirting with 18 mil at the 10 0'clock mark. That tally represents the largest audience for the final episode of a drama series since Murder, She Wrote circa 1996. (Be sure to check out Trish's fantastic recap of the ER ender.) CSI's William Friedkin-directed 200th episode placed second at 9 pm, drawing a season low of 14.38 mil. Facing stiff competition, Hell's Kitchen (7 mil) saw one-third of its audience get flambéed.

"Eleventh Hour", the CBS crime drama, is close to wrapping up its first season. On April 2, the series will wind down with the episode called "Medea" which preview is available.
A high level FBI agent is accused of stealing a woman's child and Dr. Hood is the only one who believes it. Helen Slater ("Smallville", "Supernatural") guest stars.
Run at 10/9c, "Eleventh Hour" will face a stiff competition from "ER" which is also having a finale on the same time slot on NBC. In the past few weeks, "Eleventh" have ruled the Thursdays 10/9c ratings, on top of "ER" but the medical drama is having its show finale after 15 years of airing on TV.
Also, there has been no word yet on whether "Eleventh Hour" will be ordered for a second season.

You think American Idol fans don't know the drill? Last night's results show grew by about 4 million viewers from its first half-hour to its exciting Michael Sarver-eliminating conclusion. Overall, Idol averaged 22.4 million, up about 1 million from last week. Elsewhere: • CSI, Survivor and Eleventh Hour were off again, due to college basketball; most everything else was on. And up from last week. • Grey's Anatomy (15.8 million) and Private Practice (10.5 million) had big nights. • Hell's Kitchen (10.9 million) hit an Idol-assisted season high. • If ER (10.2 million) were always this healthy, it might not be about to fade to...

How Much Is George Clooney Worth? About 2 million viewers. That's how many more people tuned in to last night's ER, featuring Clooney (and Julianna Margulies and Noah Wyle and Eriq La Salle and Susan Sarandon and…), compared to the previous week. The retiring show still got beat at 10 p.m. by Eleventh Hour, 10.7 million viewers to 11.8 million, per preliminary Nielsen estimates. It did, however, rule among nostalgia-tripping young adults. Other Winners: A diagnostic Grey's Anatomy (13.5 million) was the top show in the 18-49 demo. CSI (17 million) was nearly 4 million viewers lighter than last week but still Thursday's most-watched show. Survivor: Tocantins (12.9 million) was more demographically hip than...

London -- ITV Studios managing director Lee Bartlett and 19 Entertainment founder and chief executive Simon Fuller inked a co-production deal Tuesday to co-create six unscripted projects to sell to broadcasters here and abroad.
The deal marks the latest peg in Bartlett's reimagining of ITV's production and sales arm ITV Global Content, which has already seen the former Fox Networks and ABC exec rebrand the company ITV Studios.
He might not like the "shitty" weather, the bureaucratic complexities of ITV and having to learn the art of British understatement, but Bartlett said his goal of turning ITV Studios into a place generating global rather than local hits is alive and well.
The deal with Fuller will help realize that goal, Bartlett said.
"The idea is to put together our own hugely talented production capabilities alongside Simon's incredible expertise creating and selling worldwide hits to produce a range of new successful...

Looks like "Life On Mars" was good while it lasted. The remake of a British miniseries on ABC fell to a series low Wednesday night, continuing a steady decline that started since it moved nights following "Lost." "Life On Mars" earned a 3.3 rating/5 share, according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research, an 11 percent audience drop from last week, and a 57 percent freefall since its highly publicized debut. When it aired Thursday nights against "Eleventh Hour" on CBS, "Life On Mars" averaged a 6.0/10 and an audience Stability Index Rating of 77.9. Since it moved to Wednesdays, in what some have said is a cursed lead-out spot from "Lost," "Life On Mars" has fallen to a 3.7/6, a drop of 38 percent. It finished last in the time slot behind "CSI: NY" on CBS and "Law ...

On paper, putting "Life On Mars" on after "Lost" seemed like a good idea. But if the first week is an indicator, it could be a killer for the cop time travel series. "Life On Mars" earned a 4.0 rating/7 share on ABC Wednesday night, according to Fast National Ratings from Nielsen Media Research. That was down more than 25 percent from the last time it aired a new episode just before Thanksgiving, when ABC was still airing it against "Eleventh Hour" on Thursday nights. But the new Wednesday slot was not so busy. In fact, "Mars" only had to compete with a rerun of "CSI: NY" as well as a new episode of "Law & Order" on NBC, both of which beat "Mars" handedly. "Law & Order" drew a 48 percent larger audience than "Life On Mars" despite having a rerun as a lead-in. "Mars" can't ...

Based on a UK show of the same name, Life on Mars was one of ABC's most anticipated new TV series of Fall 2008. It got off to a great start in the ratings but how do things stand now? Will Lost help or hurt?
Life on Mars follows the life of modern-day NYPD detective Sam Tyler (Jason O'Mara) after he's been hit by a car. Things are very different than what he remembers and he finally realizes he's somehow been transported to 1973. He starts to help the officers solve a murder that has strange similarities to a case that he was investigating in 2008. Is he sick, mad, or a time traveler? Other castmembers include Jonathan Murphy, Dominick Mancino, Tom Stratford, Michael Imperioli, Gretchen Mol, Harvey Keitel, Chris Miskiewicz, John Cenatiempo, and Lisa Bonet.

Thursday TV's Big Wrench in the Works: President George W. Bush. Yes, the farewell address is a tradition for the outgoing commander in chief, but wasn't it President Dwight Eisenhower who warned about the dangers of delivering one on William Petersen's farewell night on CSI? How Did Bush Mess with CSI Exactly? Because of the Bush speech, the CSI repeat that aired at 8 p.m. bled into the new CSI at 9 p.m., and the new CSI bled into Eleventh Hour at 10 p.m. So, what's known right now is that from 9-10 p.m., per Nielsen estimates, CBS averaged 23.2 million viewers. From 9-10:30 p.m., the network scored 21.6 million. In any scenario, Petersen's last CSI (as a regular, that is—Gil Grissom did live, after...

CBS continued its winning streak last week, edging out a resurgent, football-fueled NBC.
The Eye finished the week ending Dec. 14 ahead among total viewers and adults 18-49, maintaining its season-to-date ratings lead. NBC was right on its heels, however, aided by a "Sunday Night Football" game that was the highest-rated primetime event all season.
CBS' "CSI" (20.9 million viewers, 5.8 rating/15 share in adults 18-49) landed in first place among scripted programming. The Thursday drama sported stronger-than-usual ratings thanks to a lack of competition from repeat-filled ABC and the debut of a character played by Laurence Fishburne.
The performance pushed 10 p.m.'s "Eleventh Hour" (13.4 million, 3.8/10) to a series high. Monday's "The Big Bang Theory" (10.5 million, 3.7/10) continued to climb, hitting a series high in viewers. And Sunday's two-hour finale of "Survivor: Gabon" (13.8 million, 4.4/10) posted a rating that was slightly above last spring's finale but below last fall's more appropriately comparable outing.

CBS also announced their midseason line-up today, although they’ve had many successful freshman shows so few changes are needed: Flashpoint, the Canadian show that premiere on CBS last summer, will return on January 9th at 9 pm, replacing the canceled Ex-List. Harper’s Island, a “mystery event” consisted of only thirteen episodes, will premiere Thursday, April 9th, at 10 pm, replacing Eleventh Hour. I guess this is why Eleventh Hour only got eighteen episodes for its first season instead of the usual twenty-two. Game Show in My Head, which comes to us from Ashton Kutcher and is hosted by Fear Factor‘s Joe Rogan (although after all the crap he said about Fear Factor, I can’t believe anyone would hire him to host anything ever again), premieres Saturday, January 3. Saturday night was traditionally the home of those newsmagazine true crime programs on CBS, because it’s a great idea to...

Partly by choice and partly by necessity because the WGA strike cut short the pilot season, this year was supposed to be the dawn of a new era for series development. NBC skipped pilots, going straight to series, while CBS opted for shorter, less expensive drama presentations.
"Pilots are vastly overrated," CBS president and CEO Leslie Moonves declared last spring.
Said NBC Universal president and CEO Jeff Zucker in January, "The odds of success are just as great going straight to series as they are in making all of those pilots."
Less than a year later, few are talking about overhauling the pilot format. Most networks have taken further steps toward year-round development: In July, Fox said it would screen pilots in December and May, and ABC said it would break up the development cycle into three mini-pilot seasons. But after getting a lot of bad rap for their exorbitant...

Fox continues to own Tuesday night with House and Fringe, each show securing the highest ration of 18-34 year old viewers. It should be very interesting to see how the shows fare when the blog is broken up. For Fringe, American Idol will bring more viewers, however the reality juggernaut hosts a weaker ration of 18-34 year olds—making up for it in shear brutal numbers. Never underestimate brute force. On the other hand, Fringe continues to wobble in story quality. Last night’s episode was a perfectly good way to waste an hour, but far off the track of last week’s episodes. The episode featured some plot conveniences that were a bit hard to swallow (Like Anna Torv’s Olivia Dunham standing smack dab in front of the kidnapper’s lair the moment the moment the building is described as a ‘red castle’. What are the odds?). The...

With the World Series over and Election Night boosting viewership last week, all the networks save Fox made gains in the ratings.
ABC and NBC tied for first place, with ABC led by its scripted dramas and NBC fueled by the NFL and "Saturday Night Live."
NBC's "Sunday Night Football" featuring the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles (17.6 million viewers and 6.7 rating/16 share in the key adults 18-49 demographic) was the highest-rated program of the week, and the network's election-eve "Saturday Night Live" special (14.4 million, 5.6/13) placed fourth. In its second week, "30 Rock" (8.1 million, 3.9/9) maintained most of its series-high rating from premiere week.
The debut of NBC's new Wednesday night crime block got off to a weak start, however. The time-period premiere of "Life" (5.9 million, 2.0/6) finished fourth in the hour, while the 19th-season debut of "Law & Order" (7.9 million, 2.2/6) hit a Wednesday low.

Fox won another week in the key adult demographic thanks to the conclusion of the World Series, while ABC climbed ahead of CBS for second place.
Wednesday's wrap-up of the rain-plagued Game 5 of the World Series, Sunday's "Treehouse of Horror" episode of "The Simpsons" and NBC's presentation of "Sunday Night Football" finished in a three-way tie as the top-rated programs of the week.

Fox's "House" (13.5 million, 5.4/14) sank a couple tenths this week yet still topped Tuesday.

CBS has released their new schedule for the 2008 - 2009 season. Some existing shows made it onto the list while, sadly, some favorites did not.
Returning on the fall schedule are 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, The Big Bang Theory, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Ghost Whisperer, How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Numb3rs, Survivor, Two and a Half Men, The Unit, and Without a Trace.
Interestingly, Christine was "on the bubble" for some time and was poised to move to ABC if CBS had cancelled it. Not only did CBS renew the series but they also gave it a full 22 episode order. The CSI trio of CBS, Jerry Bruckheimer TV and director Danny Cannon are reuniting for a new drama project based on the British limited sci-fi series Eleventh Hour.
CBS has ordered a pilot with a hefty penalty for the untitled project, which Jerry Bruckheimer TV is producing with Granada International Media and Warner Bros. TV. The penalty is rumored to amount to a 13-episode production commitment, and WBTV is said to be proceeding with making the series, which is expected to net strong international sales given the Bruckheimer brand's popularity worldwide. CBS would neither confirm nor deny the deal Tuesday.
The drama centers on a special science adviser to the government who, with his feisty female bodyguard in tow, saves people from the worst abuses of science.
The four-hour original series, which aired last year on ITV, starred Patrick Stewart.
Feature writer-director Mick Davis will pen the script for the U.S. version. "CSI" executive producer Cannon, who directed the pilot for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and is credited with creating the hit franchise's distinct look, is set to helm the pilot.
