Oh, so you think being a kid is an emotional rollercoaster, huh? Try becoming a freshly minted teenager.
When Inside Out hit theaters in 2015, Pixar’s deep dive into an 11-year-old’s brain quickly ascended to top-tier status; the combination of old-school cartoonishness, a color scheme that left no hue untouched, a celebrity voice cast with comic chops, and a perfect combo of childlike imagination and mature insight into the moment you start leaving childhood behind established it as one of the company’s best works to date. The pandemic couldn’t have come at a worse time for Pixar. The fading animation powerhouse emerged from a decade of creative misfires and middling sequels just to have two of their most personal films in forever — Enrico Casarosa’s “Luca” and Domee Shi’s “Turning Red” — dumped onto Disney+, further diluting the brand by retraining audiences to think of Pixar as just another content provider. “Lightyear” was supposed to be the silver bullet that got the studio back on track as the cartoon kings of the summer box office, but the ill-conceived “Toy Story” spinoff only confirmed that Luxo Jr. had lost his luster. Meanwhile, last year’s equally unsatisfying “Elemental” stumbled out of the gate in a way that took the shine off its slow-burn commercial success.

After Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and A Bug’s Life, John Lasseter directed his fourth film collaboration with Disney and Pixar, Cars (2006). By the time Pixar animated the story based on anthropomorphic cars, technology had advanced far from what they had used for their revolutionary first film in 1995. According to the reports, the computers used for animating Cars were 1000 times faster than those used in Toy Story.

However, the development of Cars began in 1998 right after the production of A Bug’s Life. It took years for Disney to come out with the film that had clean animations and used some advanced animation techniques. The efforts paid off handsomely as Cars became the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2006.

Among the various successful lineups of Disney’s Pixar, it features popular titles like Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, and many more. However, there is one underrated franchise that does not get the wholehearted love it deserves. It is none other than Cars. The film is often overlooked but it is surely one of the classic films that is enjoyed by children and adults alike.

Though one would assume from the title that the story is merely about some automobiles, its central themes are much more complex and center more than just vehicles. The film teaches us grounded values with a gripping storyline in a fast-paced racing world. But the film is much deeper than that as it became Paul Newman’s most popular film giving him a fitting tribute before he passed away in 2008.

As an individual entity, Pixar Animation Studios is busy handcrafting films that touch people’s hearts. As a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios, however, Pixar seems to be grasping at straws, which is why the former is aiming to resort back to the financially safer choice of crowd-pullers.

One of George Miller's films, "Lorenzo's Oil," opens with an epigram reading as follows: "Life has meaning only in the struggle. Triumph or defeat is in the hands of the Gods ... so let us celebrate the struggle!" Celebrating the struggle may seem paradoxical in life or in cinema, but that concept runs through just about every one of Miller's films, created over the course of four decades. From post-apocalyptic action fantasies to deliriously twisted family fare, Miller has never been too boxed in with the films he's made. Through his filmography, George Miller has done everything from introducing one of cinema's biggest action stars to depicting a sea of penguins dancing to pop music. As weird as those extremes may be, it somehow all makes sense. With the arrival of Miller's latest entry in the "Mad Max" franchise, "Furiosa," in theaters now, let's rank all of Miller's films.

Ministry Kick Off 2024 Tour in San Francisco with Gary Numan and Front Line Assembly: Photos + Video
Ministry kicked off their 2024 North American tour with Gary Numan and Front Line Assembly at the historic Warfield Theater in San Francisco on Tuesday evening (February 27th), just three days before the release of their 16th studio album, Hopiumforthemasses. As it had been a few months since Ministry were on the road, they were definitely refreshed and re-energized, delivering a set of both new and classic songs to a near sold-out venue.
Ministry wasted no time playing the new stuff, as they kicked off their set with five songs from Hopiumforthemasses, beginning with the singles “B.D.E.” (Big Dick Energy) and “Just Stop Oil.” Frontman and ring leader Al Jourgensen was his usual frantic self, belting out the lyrics while engaging with the fans up against the barricade. Since the second Academy Awards ceremony in 1930, 73 people have received acting Oscar nominations for their debut film performances, yielding a total of 15 breakout wins. Conversely, the list of actors who have earned recognition for their final movie appearances is much smaller, featuring only 18 general and two successful examples. Those who belong to this club gained entry in a variety of ways, with some having voluntarily quit acting altogether, others having specifically stepped away from film performing, and a few having sadly not lived long enough to bask in the glory of their farewell nominations.
Since film acting retirement can never be absolutely permanent while a performer is still alive, only deceased individuals can correctly be counted as official members of this group. Although most currently living retired actors did not pick up Oscar nominations for their latest films anyway, the academy did smile upon one – Daniel Day-Lewis – on his declared way out.

Fans may finally have the answer as to why Owen Wilson's nose has such a distinct look.
Wilson is currently enjoying the spotlight as he plays the enterprising Tva agent Mobius in the hit MCU Disney+ series Loki; however, the actor has been making waves in Hollywood for over 25 years.
Known for roles in Pixar's Cars, Zoolander, and so many more, Wilson has become synonymous with a few things, one being his particular parlance of the word, "Wow!" and the other his slightly misshapen and unique nose.

The past two weekends have been rough for theaters, as the riches of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” have worn off and overall grosses have fallen to levels not seen since mid-February. Fortunately, a trio of new genre films are here to bring some business back.
The threesome in question are Lionsgate’s “Saw X,” a back-to-basics approach to the gory horror franchise that defined the genre in the 2000s; Paramount’s preschooler family film “Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” the latest offering from the Nick Jr. series that has become a merchandising titan; and Disney/20th Century’s “The Creator,” an original sci-fi film from “Rogue One” director Gareth Edwards.
Trackers don’t have a consensus on whether “Saw X” or “Paw Patrol 2” will be the No. 1 film. Distribution sources have told TheWrap that projections for “Saw X” have ranged as low as $15 million and as high as $25 million, while projections...

Earlier in the night, Swift took home the Moon Man, the award given by the Video Music Awards, for best pop, song of the year and best direction. The latter two awards were given for Swift’s song “Anti-Hero.”

The Walt Disney Company is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a hefty new Blu-ray box set containing 100 of its best animated films.

Since the Writers Guild of American and Screen Actors Guild are both still on strike, this year's Destination D23 convention down in Orlando, Florida didn't really have much of anything to showcase. Sure, the studio showed some footage from Disney's upcoming animated movie "Wish," and they announced that "Haunted Mansion" would be hitting Disney+ in October. But there was one other announcement that might be intriguing for anyone who is both a Disney fan and a physical media collector.
This fall, the House of Mouse will be releasing the Disney Legacy Animated Film Collection, which collects 100 animated films from both Disney and Pixar, reaching as far back as "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and up through this summer's "Elemental" from Pixar. The biggest and most pleasant surprise of the summer just keeps trucking along at the box office. It's not really going out on a limb to say that "Elemental" wasn't quite the flashiest Pixar offering in recent years upon release, both in terms of a noticeably underwhelming opening weekend total and also its actual quality compared to previous hits from the studio's heyday. But in a confidence-restoring performance, the animated film overcame the ignominy of initially landing in second place to "The Flop," er, I mean "The Flash" and has legged it out to become the biggest original film of the entire pandemic era, as /Film's Ryan Scott covered previously.
But this underdog success story doesn't end there.
Another week brings yet another significant milestone for the little element-based engine that could. The latest box office totals for "Elemental" peg the movie at $469,538,240 worldwide. Significant? Yeah, you could say so.

Michael Mann’s last outing as a feature film director was eight years ago with the cyber crime film Blackhat, starring Chris Hemsworth. Now, the director of such classic films as The Last of the Mohicans and Heat returns with the story of Enzo Ferrari. Ironically, Mann had executive produced James Mangold’s 2019 racing film, Ford v Ferrari, in which the Italian brand was the main competition for the film’s protagonists. Mann’s Ferrari is naturally the story from the other side (albeit at a different time) as the film shows the auto giant navigating the issues of his personal life with the looming obstacles of an upcoming, dangerous 1,000-mile race.
The official synopsis from Neon reads,
“It is the summer of 1957. Behind the spectacle of Formula 1, ex-racer Enzo Ferrari is in crisis. Bankruptcy threatens the factory he and his wife, Laura built from nothing ten years earlier.

Director Neill Blomkamp burst onto the scene all the way back in 2009 with "District 9." 14 years later, it remains one of the most beloved feature directorial debuts in recent memory — if not ever. The problem for Blomkamp is that he's yet to have an unqualified hit ever since his first film became a smash, taking in $210 million worldwide against a $30 million budget, en route to a Best Picture Oscar nomination. But Blomkamp is getting another shot at the big time with his latest film, "Gran Turismo." Part video game adaptation, part biopic, the filmmaker is looking to break his mixed bag of a streak. Can this be the movie to get the job done?
Box Office Pro currently has "Gran Turismo" taking in anywhere between $17 and $22 million on its opening weekend domestically. The movie was initially supposed to come out much earlier in August but was pushed back a couple...

These days, it feels like so many major Hollywood movies are based on preexisting properties or serving as sequels, prequels, or remakes to popular films that there's no room for fresh ideas. Fortunately, movies based on original concepts do still make an impact on the film industry and continue to garner critical acclaim and commercial support at the box office. Looking back through cinema history, those movies that made their mark without becoming a franchise stand out as truly special experiences.

San Francisco, June 28 (Ians) European carmaker Volvo has signed an agreement with Elon Musk’s Tesla, providing current and future electric Volvo car drivers access to 12,000 Tesla’s vast Supercharger network across the US, Canada and Mexico.
According to the agreement, future Volvo vehicles will be equipped with the North American Charging Standard (Nacs) charging port in the region beginning in 2025.
With this announcement, Volvo becomes the fourth automaker to announce support for Tesla’s Nacs Ev charging connector after Ford, General Motors and Rivian.
“One major inhibitor to more people making the shift to electric driving – a key step in making transportation more sustainable — is access to easy and convenient charging infrastructure. Today, with this agreement, we’re taking a major step to remove this threshold for Volvo drivers in the US, Canada and Mexico,” Jim Rowan, CEO at Volvo Cars, said in a statement on Tuesday.

The movies become very personal to each viewer, especially for those who’ve grown up with Pixar’s work and have seen its releases serve as milestones in their lives.
That said, even the biggest Pixar fan alive could probably admit that the studio has been going through a (more than) slight rough...

But it’s not in Elemental’s best interests that its characters—and thus, its basic concept—are so difficult to describe, though in the end that’s the least of its problems. On the occasion of its release, here’s a ranking of every Pixar feature. Dan Rubins
