The Ss in the DreamWorks logo transform into ogre form. This foreshadows Fiona's nightly transformation into an ogre.
The film opens and closes using the famous "Disney Fairytale" storybook method; however the film makes fun of this approach by having Shrek tear a page out and use it as toilet paper.
Hand drawn illustrations over the end credits.
The opening credits are seen around Shrek as he starts his day:
- the film's title and Mike Myers's name appear in the mud Shrek bathes with (appropriate considering Myers voices the title character)
- when Shrek breaks the mirror with his smile, Eddie Murphy's name is seen behind it
- Cameron Diaz's name forms out of pond-scum
- and when Shrek lifts up a snail, its larvae form John Lithgow's name before dissolving.
This is the only Shrek film to open with the DreamWorks Pictures logo; later films would have the DreamWorks Animation logo.
The S in Shrek has his ears.
