While many celebrate the groundbreaking visual effects of the Star Wars series when it was released, few know that the sci-fi franchise also introduced many new techniques and revolutionized the sound design and mixing industry. George Lucas established Skywalker Sound (then Sprocket Systems) to work on the sound design of his epic franchise.
Sound designers of Skywalker Sound were reportedly involved early on in the Star Wars sequels as Lucas wanted specific sounds for the films. These included creating sounds for the tech such as lightsabers and robots as well as for the animals and creatures featured. The designers recounted how one old Mongolian woman laid the foundation for Ewoks.

The Star Wars franchise gained its iconic status in Hollywood thanks to the genius vision of pioneering filmmaker George Lucas who set the benchmark when it came to the sci-fi genre. Lucas was also fortunate to have a strong team of technical experts who brought his ambitious ideas to life on screen.

Sound designers Ben Burtt and Randy Thom who created the entire soundscape for the franchise, were expectedly crucial to the narratives. Speaking about the extensive research that went into creating unique languages and sounds for the non-human characters, Burtt revealed the out-of-the-box process they used to arrived at the now recognizable language of Jabba The Hutt.

Creating Star Wars is undoubtedly a task of Herculean proportions that only a visionary like George Lucas could have achieved.

In a galaxy not so far, far away, the 1987 classic Star Wars parody, Spaceballs, might be gearing up to bring back an iconic sequel after a staggering 37-year hiatus. News of a potential sequel has ignited excitement among fans who fondly remember the parody film that hilariously spoofed the Star Wars saga.

George Lucas’ Star Wars was a truly remarkable film franchise in the sci-fi fantasy genre. But the film series may not have been perfect in all sense. For years, the franchise had been accused of portraying poorly-written female characters. In particular, the original trilogy’s Leia was criticized for being a ‘damsel in distress’ character.

Lucas vehemently defended the series, claiming that the films were groundbreaking for including strong women. He shared that women like Princess Leia and Queen Amidala were the true leaders of the rebellion. He added that he couldn’t just put women in pants in his films to make them the heroes. However, Lucas’ views might be skewed in more than one way.

There are some aspects of the Skywalker Saga that make it very difficult to enjoy the films in cohesion with each other. Given the amount of time it took to complete the entire saga, and the large swathes of down-time between each trilogy in the series, it might have become difficult for George Lucas to keep the franchise’s canon intact, especially at a time when information was not so freely available.

George Lucas had to face very strong criticism from the Star Wars fandom when he returned to the franchise with his infamous Prequel Trilogy. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, which started the Prequels in 1999 is often regarded as the worst in the epic space-opera franchise.
However, out of the numerous infamous aspects of The Phantom Menace that have raised the eyebrows of fans to date, nothing can beat the podrace scene. Despite being marketed as one of the primary set pieces from the film, George Lucas failed miserably in making the scene likeable.

The Star Wars universe is filled with several mysteries thanks to the mystical nature of the Force that binds all life in the galaxy far, far away together. Anakin Skywalker is integral to the story of the franchise and his connection to Force has been a much-debated topic ever since the character was first introduced in the Darth Vader persona.

Despite his eventual redemption and return to the light side, some fans claim that Anakin did not deserve to return as a Force Ghost. Haters of Anakin have been pretty vocal about his crimes against the galaxy in the prequels era, arguing that he should not have the ability, which we have mostly seen harnessed by the more noble characters. However, a new Star Wars theory proves exactly why the haters are wrong.

The Acolyte's Callback to Rystáll Sant Means the World to Hardcore Fans - Main Image

Who is Rystáll Sant? Meet the First of Her Kind in Return of the Jedi
Rystáll Sant (played by Mercedes Ngoh) is essentially one of the earliest half-human, half-Theelin species made canon in the Star Wars franchise.
She first appeared in the special edition of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, specifically in Jabba the Hutt's Palace.
She was born to a Theelin father and a human mother, and when she was abandoned as a baby, Rystáll gets adopted by an Ortolan couple who happened to work as musicians.

Played by Mark Hamill, the original trilogy sees Luke training to become a full-fledged Jedi Knight and harnessing the ability to use the Force. In the end, Luke defeats the Empire seemingly becoming a Jedi in the process.

It could be hard for us to imagine witnessing an alternate universe where Luke Skywalker’s path to Jedi knighthood is fraught with even greater trials. On that note, did you know that in a scrapped storyline from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Luke narrowly escaped a grim fate at the hands of Darth Vader? Mark Hamill starred as Luke Skywalker, and Harrison Ford assumed the role of Han Solo, among other notable cast members.

John Boyega’s Favorite Star Wars Movie Is a Controversial Choice - Main Image
John Boyega has a favorite Star Wars movie, but it may be a controversial choice for many fans given that it’s quite an unexpected pick.
When you ask fans about their favorite Star Wars movie, chances are that many will mention either A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back. After all, these two are typically considered the “best” films in the franchise.
Of course, there are some other fairly common answers, with some fans loving Revenge of the Sith the most given how it shows the saga’s most pivotal moment.
None of these three films is Boyega’s favorite though, as he revealed in an interview for the Star Wars Insider magazine back in 2016.

George Lucas’ Star Wars saga is a trilogy of trilogies; The Return of The Jedi is the perfect film that honors the ending of the classic trilogy, and some even argue that the ending could not be any more perfect. Episode VI ended on a high note that honored the film’s epic story, ending Emperor Palpatine’s reign of terror and Darth Vader’s redemption with some old Force ghosts present at the celebration scene.

However, the film’s epic conclusion was nailed down by a plethora of drafts because Lucas could not decide on a script that ended the story on a high note. Moreover, in several drafts, the ending varied from the one we have seen in the final version of the film because it did not have enough dramatic effect.

Ahsoka included plenty of surprises for Star Wars fans, including Hayden Christensen's return as Anakin Skywalker. He appeared in the World Between Worlds (where we learned the Jedi was as conflicted as ever), as one of his former Padawan's training holograms later in the series, and eventually in the form of a Force Ghost.
In the show's final few minutes, the idea seemed to be that Anakin will serve as Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren's guide on Peridea when the show returns. Theories have since swirled about his and Ahsoka Tano's ties to the Mortis Gods.
As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, a rumour shared by @MyTimeToShineH claims to confirm plans for Anakin to appear in Ahsoka season 2, albeit in a much larger role this time. This news is bound to be welcomed, particularly as Star Wars fans have embraced Christensen since he reprised his role as Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

One of the most memorable traits of the roguish Han Solo is just how lucky he is. Depending on which version of "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" you watched, this guy somehow managed to avoid getting shot by a bounty hunter despite being mere feet away from the guy either before or after they yelled "Maclunkey!" at him. He also spent years fleeing from the evil space gangster Jabba the Hutt -- and when Jabba did finally catch him, Han had already made friends with a powerful young Jedi who could rescue him not long after.

Sam Witwer’s journey into the Star Wars universe began with his portrayal of Starkiller. Actor John Boyega starred in three of the extant 16 "Star Wars" movies*, playing the rogue-Stormtrooper-turned-good guy Finn in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (2015), "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" (2017), and "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" (2019). Boyega liked playing Finn, but has gone on record (notably in a 2020 GQ interview) about his disappointment with how the series treated his character; Finn was set up to be a leading man, and was sidelined for what appeared to be racism-based reasons. Boyega was also off-put by Disney's habit of micromanaging "Star Wars," feeling that every one of the franchise's actors ran the risk of being roped into "Star Wars" projects exclusively. "You ain't going to Disney+ me," he once laughingly said to Variety.

"Family Guy" fans will often try to claim that the show's best years were its original three-season run, but I'd argue that the show's peak was somewhere around season 6. The series' comedic style had fully found its groove by this point, not to mention that it really started to lean into the Brian/Stewie duo episodes that everyone loves so much. Best of all, this was the beginning of the show's annual "Star Wars" parody specials.

When it comes to diversity in filmmaking, Steven Spielberg tops the list. Over many decades of being one of Hollywood’s greatest directors, Spielberg has shown that he can never be boxed into one specific genre by becoming the master in everything. From action thrillers to intense dramas to historical biopics, he has proved that nothing is beyond his reach.

One of the Jaws director’s shining moments came in Lincoln starring Daniel Day-Lewis whose towering performance as the 16th President of the USA won him a well-deserved Oscar. While Spielberg considered Lewis to be the main force behind the film’s success, he also confessed that he was proved very wrong about how the film would be perceived at the box office.

Keanu Reeves has been entertaining audiences since the 90s with groundbreaking action films that have redefined the genre. Films like Point Break, The Matrix, and the John Wick franchises have become milestones in the genre. Additionally, Reeves is a fan of cinema in general and Star Wars has been a seminal franchise for the actor like many during the time of the original trilogy.

Most Star Wars fans will agree that the first two films in the original trilogy were the peak of the franchise and Return of the Jedi fell short of reaching the heights of the previous two films. Reeves was also let down by the film as he had huge expectations from it but it didn’t deliver in the way that he hoped.

The Star Wars franchise has come a long way from just being another fantasy world filled with fictional characters set in fictional lands. It is a world of fiction yet one that has deep emotional themes of friendship, love, hope, courage, and more. A fictional world yet deeply rooted in reality, there are several memorable events that fans have come to deeply resonate with.

After ages, it looked like the Star Wars franchise finally found a savior in Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte because it was everything that the franchise was missing. Moreover, Lucasfilm productions were vehemently criticized by fans for creating a new trilogy that ridiculed the original six films, discarding every rule and canonical event that had previously taken place.

Fans were ecstatic over the upcoming TV series as it had an air of mystery and thriller; being a series that is set before the prequel trilogy makes it impossible to overlook any canon event that took place in the franchise. Everything was going smoothly until Charlie Barnett decided to portray himself as a fake fan of the sci-fi franchise, and made a grave blunder regarding Darth Vader.

Back in 2018, "Dune" director Denis Villeneuve threw "Star Wars" fans into a tizzy (it doesn't take much these days) when he described his then-upcoming adaptation of Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi novel as being like "'Star Wars' for adults." Of course, that's not really an insult to the franchise or its fans, because "Star Wars" creator George Lucas made no secret of the fact that "Star Wars" is intended for kids.
In fact, during a surprise appearance at Star Wars Celebration in 2017, he reiterated that the very first "Star Wars" installment, which would go on to be titled "A New Hope," was a "a film for 12-year-olds." Of course, that doesn't mean adults can't still find value in these sci-fi stories of heroism. But it also means that the franchise, from its inception, has always been molded to be appealing to children.
Therefore, it should come as no surprise that...

Return of the Jedi marked the conclusion of the original trilogy of Star Wars films. Richard Marquand was in the director’s chair as the third installment in the franchise brought Luke Skywalker’s fight against the Empire to a conclusion, ending the trilogy on a happy note. However, years later franchise spearhead George Lucas revived the saga for the prequel trilogy.

Who could have imagined that the fiery on-screen chemistry between Princess Leia and Han Solo, portrayed by the legendary Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, would leap off the silver screen and blossom into a real-life romance? Indeed, the revelation of their affair was a breathtaking twist worthy of a Hollywood epic, capturing the imaginations of both Star Wars fans and cinephiles.
Alas, their brief affair was marred by more sadness than romance. Despite its complexity, this slice of trivia never fails to stir the pot of fan discussions, especially considering their shared time on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, instead of chatting about themselves & their own story, they talked about another romantic couple on the set.

Carrie Fisher was one of the pioneering members of the trio that led the original Star Wars trilogy. R2-D2 is a curious character in "Star Wars" lore. It's a three-foot-tall trashcan-shaped high-tech utility knife on wheels, most often used as a navigational computer (it can be plugged into the navigational systems of small spacecraft), and only communicating using a series of beeps and computerized chirping noises. Other characters talk to R2-D2 as if it's a human being, and indeed, some of its computer language sounds a little bit like a human voice, but one might be able to question if R2-D2 possesses consciousness.
R2's sounds were provided by long-term "Star Wars" sound designer and editor Ben Burtt, and in multiple "Star Wars" films, actor Kenny Baker operated R2's moving parts from within. The human touch leads many to rest assured that R2 is indeed a conscious being with feelings and memories beyond mere computational storage. R2's consciousness was reinforced in the 1985 animated TV series "Droids,...

He may have created Star Wars, one of the most beloved sci-fi properties in history, but filmmaker George Lucas has a complicated relationship with the franchise's fans.
Whether it's the prequels which were deemed a let-down by original trilogy devotees or the fact he made sweeping changes to those classic movies with various re-releases, Lucas has long clashed with admirers of his work.
New technology saw him frequently make sweeping changes to A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Those ranged from blinking Ewoks to a massively overhauled Death Star battle, and even Darth Vader screaming "Noooo!" as he threw Emperor Palpatine to his temporary death (Hayden Christensen was even inserted into Episode VI's final scene).
Perhaps the biggest issue, though, was the fact the original versions of Star Wars are now near-impossible to find.

Update: Comscore has just released the official box office results for the 4-day Memorial Day holiday weekend, and despite some box office pundits predicting that The Garfield Movie would top Furiosa, in the end the George Miller epic was able to hold on to a narrow lead. Comscore has Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga earning $32 million compared to Garfield‘s $31.1 million. However, it should be noted that The Garfield Movie only cost about a third of what Furiosa did, so it’s unlikely distributor Sony Pictures will chalk up a loss on this one.
Furiosa will depend heavily on foreign receipts if it’s going to break even, with the movie grossing $33 million internationally. Mad Max: Fury Road made a total of $379 million worldwide, a number that the prequel will likely have a hard time equalling unless word of mouth and repeat business are strong. “What do you people out there want?!” a Warner Bros. executive might be forgiven for asking after arguably the worst Memorial Day weekend box office in 40 years. Despite Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga opening to glowing reviews, glitzy standing ovations at the Cannes Film Festival, and as part of a revered IP franchise whose last installment is considered one the best summer movies ever—Mad Max: Fury Road is a six-time Oscar winner!—the prequel’s box office still marked the lowest debut for a number one Memorial Day release since Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. And that came out in 1984.
Estimated to have grossed $31 million over the four-day weekend (and a meager $25 over the three-day) Furiosa’s first weekend box office bow is playing in the same neighborhood as when Harrison Ford’s archaeologist went to India and and Luke Skywalker fighting Darth Vader was considered a novelty.

Created by George Lucas, the Star Wars franchise is one of the most epic sagas ever told. From the fall of Anakin Skywalker to Luke Skywalker’s eventual defeat of the Emperor, it is a classic tale of good vs evil. The early box office results are in over at Deadline, and oh boy, are they dire or what? As of right now, George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga seems poised to win the weekend by a razor’s edge, with it on track for a three-day gross in the range of $27-28 million and about $31 million for the four-day Memorial Day weekend. The Garfield Movie is right behind with $24 million, with Deadline predicting that it could theoretically win the four-day weekend thanks to matinees on Monday. It is set to make $30-32 million over the holiday. We had predicted $40 million for Furiosa and $35 million for Garfield.

Saturday Am: This weekend at the Memorial Day box office, the film industry seems to be questioning its existence, ready to jump out of a window. How can a genius, George Miller-directed tentpole prequel to the multi-Oscar winning Mad Max: Fury Road with great reviews and 4 1/2 stars PostTrak exits not be working?
The entire theatrical business is destined for streaming, oh, no! People will forever stay on their couches!
As Cher said to Nicolas Cage in Moonstruck as she smacked him in the face: “Snap out of it!” It’s not really right to make Furiosa, or Garfield, for that matter, the proxies of the Memorial Day box office.
Furiosa is still on track for $31M-$33M. For clarity purposes: The last time a film grossed in this vicinity was the 1980s with Return of the Jedi and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. However, we stand corrected: It’s the lowest No.
