Transfusion is a 2023 thriller movie written and directed by Matt Nable starring Sam Worthington and Phoebe Tonkin.
This is a movie that wants to “go beyond the script” and, precisely because of the script, never manages to do so. Good acting by Sam Worthington in a slow burning thriller that ends without a definition between a character drama and a thriller.
Storyline
An ex agent of the armed forces has a son with problems he will try to protect at all costs.
Movie Review Transfusion
This is a movie written, directed and starred by Matt Nable, which tries to offer us a different kind of movie in its treatment but, never manages to do so in the script. The hackneyed subject of “my son at all costs”, done so many times (even by actors not called Liam Neeson), stands up as far as a script goes, there is structure and empathy with the viewer,...

A short look at how a simple smile can lead to danger and terror. Birdie is a short film made by filmmaker Shelly Lauman, the next film debuted as part of Fox Searchlight's new online initiative called "Searchlight Shorts". A woman walks alone to the train station. As she descends the stairs to the underground platform she smiles at a young man, and he smiles back. With the smallest of gestures, the woman becomes caught in a subtle and sinister game. Maeve Dermody stars, with Sam Parsonson, Joshua Brennan, Lynette Curran, and Eden Falk. This simple but powerful short film utilizes the Academy aspect ratio of 1.37:1, and plays without any real dialogue. It's an example of how bad it is out there for women, how aggressive men can be, and how the tiniest of kind gestures can be misconstrued as an invitation. Watch in full below. Birdie is...

The debut feature from Australian director Stephen McCallum, this gritty biker gang thriller achieves a certain level of sweaty intensity and largely pulls off its Shakespearean parallels, though there are a few wobbles along the way.
Set in present-day Australia, the film centres on biker gang member Paddo (Ryan Corr), who has taken over leadership of the Copperheads Motorcycle Club during club president Knuck’s (screenwriter Matt Nable) three year stint in jail. When Paddo’s learning disabled brother Skink (Josh McConville) steals heroin from rival gang the Devils, Paddo brokers a mutually beneficial agreement with gang leader Sugar (Aaron Pederson) in return for his brother’s life.
However, when Knuck gets out of jail, he refuses to honour the deal, putting both Skink and Paddo’s lives in danger.

I told myself not to mention Sons of Anarchy in my review for Outlaws before sitting down to watch. My reasoning came out of a desire to judge Stephen McCallum’s film on its own merits without trying to compare to something as zeitgeist-y as Kurt Sutter’s tragic downfall of a “good” man forced to do bad things in order to achieve salvation. What’s ironic, though, is that you don’t have to get too far into Matt Nable’s script to wonder if he was hoping we’d make the comparison. With his “should-be” leader Paddo (Ryan Corr) trying to take his Copperheads Motorcycle Club legit against Knuck’s (Nable himself) actual president returning from jail with violence and bloodlust in his veins, the underlying core conflict is almost identical.

The line between delivering justice and committing a criminal act can be a thin one in the eyes on the law, and tenuous bond between the two is the focus of the upcoming crime thriller "John Doe: Vigilante." Starring Jamie Bamber, Lachy Hulme, Gary Abrahams, Sam Parsonson and more, and directed by Kelly Dolen, the film follows the titular John Doe who, tired of a system that is unable to deal with violent crimes, takes matters into his own hands, becomes a media sensation and inspires others to do the same in copycat acts. But the question remains: is he a hero or villain? And this exclusive clip we see John Doe attempting to rationalize his violent acts. "John Doe: Vigilante" opens on Friday, March 21st. Watch below.

Fango has learned that IFC Films has grabbed another pair of fear features from overseas, to premiere on the company’s video-on-demand platforms ahead of eventual DVD release. These titles join IFC’s growing lineup of upcoming genre titles, which also includes such recent acquisitions as Nicolas Winding Refn’s brutal Viking film Valhalla Rising and Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher’s zombie opus La Horde.
New to the IFC roster are the Australian chiller Coffin Rock (pictured) and the Spanish production Paintball. Coffin Rock, written and directed by Rupert Glasson, is about a young married woman (Lisa Chappell) who drunkenly sleeps with a stranger; when she becomes pregnant, the one-night stand begins a psychopathic campaign to prove the baby is his. Robert Taylor, Sam Parsonson and The Cars That Ate Paris’ Terry Camilleri co-star. In Paintball, directed by Daniel Benmayor from a Mario Schoendorff script, a group of contestants...

The win came over a crowed field of competitors from all over the world, many of them with much larger budgets. The other big winner at the Pump Room of the Ambassador East awards ceremony Saturday evening was by veteran master Marco Bellocchio of Italy, who won the Silver Hugo as best director for "Vincere," the story of Mussolini's younger brother. Giovanna Mezzogiorno and Filippo Timi won Silver Hugos as best actress and actor,...

Since Wolf Creek changed the horror landscape back in 2005 any new Australian horror film is greeted with anticipation, as we wait and see whether they can provide the same nerve-shredding terror that has been so elusive in horror cinema since. Coffin Rock takes inspiration from Wolf Creek in its dingy outback setting and tense psychological drama, but despite some expert film making never quite delivers the scares it promises.
One of Coffin Rock's best aspects is it's excellent story, an emotionally complex look at the claustrophobia of rural outback life. Jess is the local beauty in a small South Australian fishing community, lusted after by the male population, but in a loving relationship with husband Rob. Rob is infertile and to Jess's frustration they don't seem to be able to have children,...

Attendance was down by 30 percent at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Not surprising, considering the recession still biting and Euro exchange rates keeping prices along the Croisette at ridiculously expensive levels. Yet the number of high-profile genre films in the Official Competition was a bonus for those more used to finding the most controversial entries up for distributor grabs in the Market section. While Park Chan-wook’s Thirst and Gaspar Noe’s Enter The Void certainly had their followers, with Terry Gilliam’s out-of-competition The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus a similar hot ticket, the two biggest stories were Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and Lars Von Trier’s Antichrist.

The new Australian thriller Coffin Rock, from producer David Lightfoot (whose credits include Wolf Creek and Rogue) and his Ultrafilm company, was deep into postproduction when Fango got a word in with ultra-busy Ayisha Davies. Having served as 2nd unit production manager on Rogue and produced several shorts (including one called The Bloody Sweet Hit), Davies is excited to talk up Coffin Rock, her first feature as producer.
Starring Lisa Chappell (seen in several episodes of Hercules: The Legendary Journies), Robert (Storm Warning) Taylor and Sam Parsonson, Coffin Rock is about “a married woman who’s so desperate for a child that she sleeps with a stranger in a drunken mistake,” Davies tells Fango. “The young stranger’s claims to paternity then turn out to be quite deadly.”
Davies goes on to describe Coffin Rock, which is also the feature debut of its writer/director Rupert Glasson, as “a kind...
