Ian Gelder, the actor who played Kevan Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones, has died at the age of 74.
Gelder’s husband, Ben Daniels, shared a post on social media announcing his death.
“It is with huge huge sadness and a heavy heart broken into a million pieces that I’m leaving this post to announce the passing of my darling husband and life partner Ian Gelder,” read the post from Daniels on Instagram. “Ian was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December and yesterday he passed at 13.07. I’d stopped all work to be his carer but neither of us had any idea that it would all be so fast.”
Daniels called Gelder his “absolute rock” and said they had “been partners for more than 30 years.”
“If we weren’t together we spoke to each other everyday,” Daniels continued. “He was the kindest, most generous spirited and loving human being.

The first full-length trailer for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three has just hit (via Toonado.com), and it teases what looks to be a high-stakes finale to this animated trilogy (and the Tomorrowverse as we know it).
With the Anti-Monitor on the loose, a whole host of heroes assemble to save the Multiverse, but it looks like that will be easier said than done when they also have Lex Luthor to contend with. Several other villains are also spotted, including The Joker, Scarecrow, and Two-Face.
In terms of cameos, the trailer ends with another Batman: The Animated Series tease. Batman Beyond also appears, but perhaps the biggest surprise comes when we return to the world of the Super Friends!
The Saturday morning cartoon aired between 1973 and 1985 on ABC and was produced by Hanna-Barbera. That classic animation style returns here and we're hoping the movie has even...

I think /Film's Jacob Hall put it best in our list of the greatest "Star Wars" movie moments when he described George Lucas' prequel trilogy as "a collection of brilliant ideas, filmed in the most baffling, alien way possible." That extends to Anakin Skywalker's journey from a wide-eyed wunderkind enslaved on Tatooine with his mother to a genocidal tyrant who murders kids and owes fealty to a cackling dictator over the course of three movies. As conceptually logical and narratively sound as the rise of Darth Vader is on paper, it's perplexing enough in motion to merit me writing an article explaining Anakin's fall to the dark side for all those folks who watched the films and yet still came away scratching their heads.
In contrast, you get a far more satisfying depiction of Anakin and his transformation in "The Clone Wars," the animated show following Anakin (Matt Lanter...

Last year was a standout year for animation, and 2024 is already shaping up to be another banger. While a majority of the high-profile animation releases are due out later this summer, the first quarter of 2024 has already been promising. We at /Film are constantly singing the praises of animation as a medium, and doing our best to course-correct the ignorant idea that animation is only for children. Admittedly, this list is going to look mighty small for the time being, but it will be updated throughout the year as more films become available. As we noted last year, animation is one of the only mediums where global cinema is given an equal footing to studio-produced films in America, with the artistic visuals serving as a universal language that we can all enjoy. Meaning, this list is not limited to Hollywood animation releases ... and that's a good thing. As for now,...

With the arrival of Revenge Of The Sith, Hayden Christensen thought his time as Anakin Skywalker was over, having picked up the baton from Jake Lloyd and plunged the Jedi Knight into darkness. But as it turned out, he wasn’t done quite yet. In recent years, Christensen has returned to Star Wars on screen in Obi-Wan Kenobi and most recently in Ahsoka, once again portraying Anakin (and Vader) in fights, flashbacks, Force-fuelled visions and more. Most notably, in Ahsoka, he got to play a version of Anakin that he’d never played before: his Clone Wars incarnation, previously only seen in animated form (and voiced by Matt Lanter) in The Clone Wars series.
As Christensen tells Empire in a major new interview – for our Star Wars prequels 25th anniversary issue – getting to star in live-action opposite Anakin’s one-time Padawan Ahsoka Tano was a big deal. “The scenes that...

The following article contains spoilers for "Ahsoka."
Getting to see a live-action version of the "Star Wars Rebels" character Sabine Wren was pretty cool. Whatever your feelings about the series, Natasha Liu Bordizzo absolutely captured the animated character from "Rebels" voiced by Tiya Sircar. In the Disney+ live-action "Ahsoka," we learned that Sabine had begun training as a Jedi with Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) before the events of the series. However, it wasn't working out and they'd parted ways. As the show begins, Ahsoka needs Sabine's help, and their training starts up again. Sabine is still struggling with frustration about her powers, and where she fits in the universe now. Add in the fact that she's missing her friend Ezra (Eman Esfandi) who is missing along with Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and you have a recipe for some personality clashes.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Ahsoka" episode 5 — "Dreams and Madness."
The penultimate episode of "Ahsoka" sees two stories play out: the potential court martial of Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) from the New Republic and the journey of Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) to rescue Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) from the machinations of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelson) and his allies.
Hera's story is completed before the opening title card, with Senator Leia Organa helping Hera out of the jam. When Senator Xiono wants to strip Hera of her rank, the golden droid arrives to offer proof (albeit via false truth) that Leia sanctioned Hera's mission personally, and as leader of the Defense Council, they can take up any problems with her personally.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Ahsoka" episode 5 — "Shadow Warrior."
"Ahsoka" episode 5, "Shadow Warrior" (written and directed by Dave Filoni), goes further than any episode in the series before it in blurring the line between the animated and live-action sides of "Star Wars." While Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) is drowning in the waters of Seatos and fighting to survive, she's trapped in some sort of vision in the Force that could be nothing more than the thoughts in her head. Regardless of whether she's simply in her mind, the World Between Worlds, or the Netherworld of the Force (if not some other realm entirely), the result is the same: In order to live, Ahsoka must make her way through her memories. As she travels through these trials from her past, we see a number of things from the world of "Star Wars" animation that have never shown up in live-action before.

When it was announced that Hayden Christensen would reprise his role as Darth Vader in “Ahsoka,” Star Wars fans’ response was mostly positive. Christensen took heat for the prequel films like many of his costars, his two-film arc depicting Anakin Skywalker’s descent into darkness now obscured by indictments of the trilogy’s other flaws.
And Anakin — not portrayed by Christensen, but voiced by Matt Lanter — was a key part of the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” which developed Ahsoka Tano (Ashley Eckstein). To have the master and apprentice reunited in live-action (Tano now played by Rosario Dawson) was a thrilling prospect for fans of “Clone Wars” and “Star Wars: Rebels” — where he is young, smiling, and mostly human. And as nice as it is to see the duo reunited, it boils “Ahsoka” down to the same uninspired purpose that drove every lackluster Star Wars project of the past decade: Nostalgia.

Contains spoilers for Ahsoka Episodes 4 and 5, The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Prequel and Original Trilogies.
As a certain former Jedi once said, “This is where the fun begins.” Yes, having teed up the arrival of a mysterious piece of Star Wars lore takes a quite literal deep-dive into the franchise’s past with Episode 5, ‘The Shadow Warrior’.
But far from serving as a slice of ultimately weightless fan service (*cough* The Book Of Boba Fett *cough*), this week’s episode digs deeper into Ahsoka’s inner turmoil, illuminates our understanding of a certain Chosen One, and ultimately winds up completing the redemption of the Prequels that The Clone Wars and Obi-Wan Kenobi began.
As you can tell, there’s *A Lot* to unpack here, but once again Empire is on hand to take you through one of the most interesting pieces of Star Wars we’ve seen on the small screen yet.

It's almost difficult to remember now, but one of the most iconic characters in all of "Star Wars" didn't necessarily start out that way. Voiced by Ashley Eckstein, Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano made her first appearance amid the decidedly mixed reception of 2008's "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" animated film. Undeterred by this setback (because when has that ever stopped this franchise before?), Dave Filoni and George Lucas forged ahead with the spin-off series that finally convinced fans to come around and accept Ahsoka as an exciting new addition to the canon. In many ways, her own journey parallels the rehabilitation of Anakin Skywalker himself -- both in-universe, as Darth Vader ultimately restored balance to the Force with his sacrifice, and among fans who've done a complete 180-degree turn on Hayden Christensen's portrayal of the fallen Jedi Knight (helped in large part by voice actor Matt Lanter's performance...

Of all Disney+’s live-action Star Wars offerings, Ahsoka might be the least accessible to fans who haven’t seen the animated shows. The Clone Wars and Rebels aren’t always high on a live-action fan’s priority list, but they’ve offered some of the best storytelling in Star Wars—and now, they’re also serving as the basis for the upcoming Ahsoka. After returning last year to “Star Wars” alongside Ewan McGregor in “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” Hayden Christensen will once again play Anakin Skywalker in the upcoming Disney+ series “Ahsoka,” which follows the adventures of the fallen Jedi’s former Padawan.
In a new teaser released on Sunday, Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) talks about her former master with another ex-Jedi, Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson), who tells her that “everyone in the Order knew Anakin Skywalker… few lived to see what he became.”
The characters of Anakin and Ahsoka fought alongside each other for years during the Clone Wars. Their adventures became the basis of a six-season animated series that became so popular among “Star Wars” fans that Disney+ revived it for a final season to wrap up its narrative in 2020, with Ahsoka barely surviving after Anakin falls to the Dark Side during the events of “Revenge of the Sith.”

Most of the world knows Mark Hamill by sight. He played Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" franchise, an acting gig that has spanned over four decades. You might even have an action figure of him in your house right now. In addition, Hamill has slayed audiences with his voice work as the Joker in Batman TV shows, animated projects, and video games since 1992. Hamill's voice work (including his insanely accurate impression of "Star Wars" co-star Harrison Ford) is incredible, and while he won a Daytime Emmy for his role in "Elena of Avalor," he was never even nominated for the Joker. That's a crime, and it's unlikely to happen now that his Batman counterpart Kevin Conroy has died.

Plot: Each episode of Tales of the Jedi tells a short story featuring Jedi from the Star Wars prequel trilogy era. The six episodes are split into two “paths”: the first following Ahsoka Tano across various points in her life, and the other depicting a young Count Dooku before his fall to the dark side of the Force.
Review: While the Star Wars universe has been focused on live-action projects this year with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor, the acclaimed animated world of Dave Filoni’s The Clone Wars expands with a new anthology series focused on the diverging sides of the Force. Balancing the Dark Side with the Light, Tales of the Jedi chronicles two characters with backstories never before explored on screen. For better or worse, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is for the fans. This is clear from the very first episode, in which a one-year-old Ahoska Tano faces an unexpected crisis during a hunting trip with her mother (Janina Gavankar). If you know much about the fan-favorite character already, I presume it offers a sweet little taste of the fearlessness that defines her, along with clarifying insights into the loving, tight-knit, nature-loving community that birthed her.
If you don’t, though — and here I will confess that I did not, having never gotten into The Clone Wars or Star Wars Rebels — the vignette feels like a detailed answer to a question never even imagined, much less asked. That doesn’t make it a bad time, necessarily. But it does make it a less than ideal entry point into the animated corner of the ever-expanding Star Wars galaxy.

This Star Wars: Andor article contains spoilers.
Andor Episode 8
In episode 8 of Andor, half of the action is a Star Wars version of the Shawshank Redemption, and there’s something about this specific incarceration that feels a bit on the fake side of the Force, like the Disneyland version of a space prison. Andor episode 8 is good, but as we watch humans literally build the cogs that make the machines of the Empire work, one can’t help but wonder, are we getting a bit too granular with the logistics of Star Wars?
At the point at which Cassian gets thrown into a forced-labor Imperial prison, nobody wanted Andor to suddenly turn into Alien 3, but there’s still something a bit too sanitized about these Star Wars prison sequences. Essentially, this Imperial prison motivates the inmates to be really good at building cogs(?) and pits various teams of workers against each other.

You know Master Yoda and his distinctive speech pattern from "Star Wars." You've posted memes of Grogu from "The Mandalorian" with his widdle fingers and his snicky snacks. Now we're going to get to know Yaddle, the Jedi Master of the same, as-yet-unnamed species in the new animated series "Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi." Yaddle will be voiced by none other than Bryce Dallas Howard, who has been a part of the "Star Wars" universe for some time now. Howard tweeted out the news with a new image of the character in question (seen above).
Howard directed two episodes of "The Mandalorian," as well as the banger of an episode of "The Book of Boba Fett" entitled "Return of the Mandalorian." If someone doesn't give this woman a "Star Wars" movie to direct after that effort, I say we grab our lightsabers, and we riot! It was one of...

Somehow, Palpatine returned. Again. Okay, that’s not a real surprise, especially for an animated series like Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, which is set in the Prequel Trilogy era. Created by Dave Filoni and Charles Murray, the Disney+ series tells the story of young Jedi Ahsoka Tano and Count Dooku before he abandoned the Jedi and fell to the dark side. Along the way, Ahsoka and Dooku encounter many familiar faces, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, and yes, Senator-turned-Chancellor-turned-Emperor Sheev Palpatine.
As one would hope, the series features a number of fan-favorite actors returning to their signiture roles. Although Rosario Dawson has put her own stamp on the live-action version of Ahsoka, first seen in The Mandalorian, the character will be once again voiced by Ashley Eckstein, who originally played the character for the 2008 movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the subsequent series. While Christopher Lee played Dooku in the movies,...

"I've been warning them about the coming darkness…" Disney revealed the first official trailer for the new animated anthology series of Star Wars shorts called Tales of the Jedi, yet another Dave Filoni project developed by Lucasfilm Animation. Filoni began writing the series while working on The Mandalorian, and revealed the first official details about it in May 2022. This new batch contains six episodes split into two "paths", one following the character Ahsoka Tano and the other depicting a young Count Dooku before his fall to the dark side. The voice cast includes Liam Neeson back as Qui-Gon, Micheál Richardson, Janina Gavankar, Matt Lanter, Dee Bradley Baker, and Ashley Eckstein. This is made in the same style as Filoni's previous series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This comes right after the Japanese animation short film anthology from last year, Star Wars: Visions, which produced some crazy cool concepts. This just...

The first trailer for the upcoming “Star Wars” animated anthology series “Tales of the Jedi” has been released out from Disney’s D23 event on Saturday. The entire show will release on Disney+ on Oct. 26.
First announced in May for the Star Wars Celebration animation panel, “Tales of the Jedi” is an anthology series tracing the life stories of notable Jedi from across the “Star Wars” canon. The six-episode first season focuses on two main characters: Ahsoka Tano (voiced by Ashley Eckstein), Anakin Skywalker’s (Matt Lanter) former Padawan introduced in “The Clone Wars” TV series, and Count Dooku, the treacherous fallen Jedi played by Christopher Lee in the film series and voiced by Corey Burton in expanded universe material. Ahsoka’s three episodes focus on different points of the Jedi hero’s life, while Dooku’s episodes depict the character’s youth before he turned to the dark side.

After defeating Emperor Palpatine, Rose, Rey, Finn, Poe, and Chewbacca take a vacation. Throughout their adventure, they discover that a number of other Star Wars characters in history have also tried to take vacations…which hasn’t always gone well for them.
We’re officially in the final stretch of summer, and you know what that means… a new Lego Star Wars movie? Sure, why not? These can be relatively cute and funny films that you can throw on for your young one or put in the background while you’re doing some work or something.

The acclaimed maxiseries from Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale was wisely produced as two animated feature films. Batman: The Long Halloween Part 1 was a real treat, one of the best productions from Warner Animation in quite some time. As a result, expectations were high for a satisfying Batman: The Long Halloween Part 2, out on disc tomorrow. Unfortunately, it proved to be very much a letdown.

Josh Duhamel is not pleased with Netflix's handling of his latest series.
The streamer canceled Jupiter's Legacy after a single season earlier this week, less than a month after its launch on the platform.
In response, Duhamel shared a shirtless selfie in character as Sheldon Sampson.
