‘The President Is Missing’ Showtime Drama Pilot Won’t Be Produced Due To Covid-Related Circumstances
Showtime no longer will be making its drama pilot The President Is Missing, an adaptation of the novel by President Bill Clinton and James Patterson, from Christopher McQuarrie and Anthony Peckham.
The network had ordered the project to pilot, which was fully cast and ready to go when the coronavirus pandemic halted all production in mid-March. In light of the uncertainty surrounding production amid the pandemic, Showtime has opted not to move forward with the pilot.
The ViacomCBS premium network also recently decided not to proceed with the previously ordered second season of On Becoming a God In Central Florida, citing the impact of the pandemic-related production delays.

Speaking at a junket for the new Netflix film “Rebecca,” Dowd revealed that a combination of Covid-19 and current political events were behind the prospective series’ demise. Another source close to the production confirmed that the pandemic played a significant part in the network’s decision.

Netflix has released the official trailer for “Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich,” a new docuseries exposing the money, power and secrets behind the international sex trafficking ring that led to Epstein’s 2019 arrest and eventual death in prison.
Premiering on May 27, the four-part series features interviews with Epstein’s victims, detailing their experiences on his private island — also known as “pedophile island” — and at his Palm Beach, Fla., residence. The trailer alone features nine women who have come forward to accuse Epstein of sexual abuse.
The trailer also promises an in-depth look at the 2008 case in which Epstein avoided a life sentence by procuring a secret plea deal with the government. Although federal officials identified 36 underage girls who Epstein had sexually abused and solicited for prostitution, he only served 13 months of jail time. In July 2019, Epstein was arrested once again on charges of sex trafficking of minors, but died in jail in August.

In The President Is Missing pilot, a powerless and politically aimless vice president (Oyelowo) unexpectedly becomes president halfway into his administration’s first term, despite his every wish to the contrary. He walks right into a secret, world-threatening crisis, both inside and outside the White House. Attacked by friends and enemies alike, with scandal and conspiracy swirling around him, he is confronted with a terrible choice: keep his head down, toe the party line and survive, or act on his stubborn, late-developing conscience and take a stand.
Adelstein will play Terry Pratt, Martin’s chief of staff. He is smart, loyal and in a permanent state of crisis.

One of those projects is “American Jesus,” based on the Millarworld comic of the same name. The series follows a twelve-year-old boy who suddenly discovers he’s returned as Jesus Christ. He can turn water into wine, make the crippled walk, and, perhaps, even raise the dead.
The series would be multi-lingual, featuring both English and Spanish. Everardo Gout and Leopoldo Gout will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers, with Everardo also directing. Everardo previously directed for the Marvel-Netflix series “Luke Cage” and has directed multiple episodes of the upcoming Facebook Watch series “Sacred Lies.” Leopolodo has produced projects like the film “Molly’s Game” and the series “Zoo” and “Instinct” for CBS. Leopoldo Gout and Everardo Gout are repped by CAA.

Netflix is building a Mark Millar TV-film universe with the pickup of two series based on the comic book writer’s stories, superhero epic Jupiter’s Legacy and American Jesus, a multi-lingual series that follows a twelve-year-old boy who suddenly discovers he’s returned as Jesus Christ; and three films, Empress, Huck and Sharkey The Bounty Hunter. They will be shepherded by such top creative auspices as Steven S. DeKnight and Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Jupiter’s Legacy), and Ted Melfi and Neal H. Moritz (Huck), Everardo Gout and Leopoldo Gout (American Jesus), Lindsey Beer (Empress) and Michael Bacall (Sharkey the Bounty Hunter).
This marks Netflix’s biggest multiple-project order since the streaming giant inked the original Marvel deal for four series and a limited series. CBS is sticking with its new midseason drama series Instinct starring Alan Cumming, which has been renewed for a second season.
Instinct has been a so-so ratings performer, averaging a 1.1 adults 18-49 most recent rating and 0.6-0.7 Live+same day in the past few airings. But has been in line with its fellow Sunday CBS shows in the 25-54 demo. And the series made history as the first broadcast drama with an openly gay lead character, played by Cumming.
Based on the James Patterson novel, Instinct stars Alan Cumming as a former CIA operative who is lured back to his old life when the NYPD needs his help to stop a serial killer. Bojana Novakovic, Daniel Ings, Naveen Andrews and Sharon Leal also star.
Instinct is produced by CBS Television Studios. Cumming and Patterson executive produce with Michael Rauch, Marc Webb, Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin (Secret Hideout), Bill Robinson and Leopoldo Gout.

No “Bull,” CBS wants you to know that the freshman Michael Weatherly series is actually the No. 1 new show of the year in total viewers, over NBC’s lauded “This Is Us.”
“We congratulate them on their success, but we like winning,” CBS senior exec VP Kelly Kahl said. He also pointed out that even CBS’ “Blue Bloods” has a larger audience than any other drama on the other networks, except “This Is Us.”
“The Big Bang Theory” is the “Wayne Gretzky of comedy,” he noted, arguing that no other half-hour comes close in total viewers, which is why they’re big on spinoff entry “Young Sheldon.” The show was recently renewed for two more seasons, a negotiation that Moonves characterized as amicable.
He also said he “hoped” that the show will continue even beyond that. “We’ll do these two years and we’re not going to just lay down,...
