[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the A Million Little Things Season 5 premiere “The Last Dance.”] There are a million little reasons we’re going to miss A Million Little Things, and number one is the friend group, which the final season premiere highlights in a major way. Everyone rallies around Gary (James Roday Rodriguez), not just when it comes to his cancer diagnosis (things are looking up by the end) — “sorry about bringing the entourage, it’s just that our friend group are very invested in each other’s lives,” he tells his doctor when they all join him for an appointment — but also after his father, Javier (Paul Rodriguez), unexpectedly passes away. Meanwhile, Anna (Erin Karpluk) gets out of prison but leaves town for a fresh start, meaning Eddie’s (David Giuntoli) single again, and Rome (Romany Malco) finds out his father Walter (Lou Beatty Jr.) has dementia. Creator DJ Nash breaks down the premiere...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the A Million Little Things Season 4 finale “Just in Case.”] A Million Little Things pulled the rug out from under us, with one reveal we’d expected and another that changed everything we thought about recent episodes. First of all, Anna (Erin Karpluk) did kill her ex-husband, Peter (Andrew Leeds) — the teacher who’s assaulted Sophie (Lizzy Greene) — albeit accidentally and was arrested after confessing. Meanwhile, Gary (James Roday Rodriguez) and Maggie (Allison Miller) found out they’re having a baby, but then Rome (Romany Malco) and Regina (Christina Moses) watched one of his videos and found out Gary has cancer. In happier news, Katherine (Grace Park) fixed things with Greta (Cameron Esposito). Executive producers DJ Nash and Terrence Coli break down the finale and tease what’s ahead. What can you say about the story you want to tell for Gary this time when it comes to cancer? DJ Nash:...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for A Million Little Things Season 4 Episode 18 “Slipping.”] Uh-oh, someone has her eye on Anna (Erin Karpluk) — and therefore her boyfriend, Eddie (David Giuntoli) — on A Million Little Things. In “Slipping,” directed by Giuntoli, Anna goes to the meeting Sophie (Lizzy Greene) organized as an alternative for the memorial for the music teacher, Peter (Andrew Leeds), who assaulted her, rather than an AA meeting. One of the girls who attends stays quiet, even as Sophie tries to talk to her. Then, the episode ends with that girl having followed Anna home, and she’s watching her and Eddie. Giuntoli teases what’s next. The episode ends with the girl who didn’t speak during Sophie’s meeting watching Anna, and therefore Eddie. What can you preview about what’s coming up there? David Giuntoli: What I can say is that look isn’t for nothing. There will be some dinner after that salad.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for A Million Little Things Season 4, Episode 16 “Lesson Learned.”] By the end of the latest A Million Little Things episode, we’re left with two question: Has a murder been committed, and if so, did Anna (Erin Karpluk) do it? Gary (James Roday Rodriguez), Maggie (Allison Miller), Eddie (David Giuntoli), and Anna’s double date comes to an abrupt end when Peter Benoit (Andrew Leeds), the music teacher who assaulted Sophie Dixon (Lizzy Greene), shows up at the restaurant. “How could you, after everything I told you?” Anna asks Carly (Robyn Ross), his date. But Peter told her that stuff wasn’t true, plus the podcast was taken down, Carly argues. “How many girls were just making it up?” Anna asks her ex-husband when he joins them. Then she finds out they’re there to watch one of his students play, and she can’t believe he’s still teaching. Gary,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for A Million Little Things Season 4, Episode 15, “Fingers Crossed.”] What better way to keep a guy’s mind off the possibility that his cancer has returned than with a game night introducing exes’ new girlfriends to the friend group? Such is the case for the latest A Million Little Things. Katherine (Grace Park) brings Greta (Cameron Esposito). Eddie (David Giuntoli) brings Anna (Erin Karpluk). Yep, it’s an interesting game night as Gary (James Roday Rodriguez) waits to find out if his cancer is back. Fortunately, it’s not—and he and Sophie (Lizzy Greene) are on better terms after he helped kidnap the man who assaulted her, Peter (Andrew Leeds), as a result of the scare. “Fingers Crossed” marked creator DJ Nash’s directorial debut—he also wrote the episode with Michelle Leibel. “It was probably our most comedy-heavy episode we’ve done. Exclusive: Girls and Get Out star Allison Williams is to star in and exec produce a U.S. remake of Canadian comedy drama Being Erica.
Williams has teamed up with Boat Rocker Studios, which recently rebranded its Platform One Media division, and Sex and the City writers Elisa Zuritsky & Julie Rottenberg to develop the remake.
Zuritsky and Rottenberg will act as showrunners and exec producers and write the pilot while Naima Ramos-Chapman (Random Acts of Flyness) will direct and exec produce. Jason Weinberg will also executive produce.
It is a loose adaptation of the show, which was produced by Boat Rocker’s Temple Street Productions. The remake tells the story of two women — strangers with seemingly nothing in common — seeking the help of an eccentric therapist who enables them to travel back in time to revisit their biggest regrets. Along the way, they’re shocked to discover their lives are inextricably intertwined.

The world of independent television is pretty chaotic right now, largely because, unlike the indie film scene, there’s no clear trajectory to success. Some shows threw all their money into shooting a pilot. Some shows have shot multiple episodes. Some shows have found alternate distribution opportunities already. Some shows remain unseen. All of them, though, want to go beyond their current status.

Being Erica
Created by Jane Sinyor
Aired on CBC from 2009-2011
Have you ever wished you could turn back time? Of course you have- who among us could honestly answer otherwise? We all have moments we regret in our lives, those tiny little mistakes that gnaw at us from their fabled place in the past. What if you could eliminate them, though, erasing them and replacing them with decisions that your hindsight assures you would have been the better course of action? Would you? And if you would, how do you imagine these events would change your situation in the present day? These are the myriad of questions proposed by Being Erica, a Canadian series that centers around a troubled 30-something who enters into a sort of metaphysical therapy after being approached by a mysterious therapist.

Here's how short fantasy film The Portal, starring Tahmoh Penikett, was turned into TV series Riftworld Chronicles...
A not so very long time ago, in this galaxy, in those geeky communities where the card-carrying members of the geek clubs congregate, a trailer was making its rounds for a certain short film. Entitled The Portal,” it starred Tahmoh Penikett (of Supernatural and Battlestar Galactica fame, thus upping the geek factor some more) and promised an intriguing premise: the dimension-travelling wizard Alar (played by the aforementioned Penikett) accidentally ends up in our magic-less, technology-full world, and attempts to navigate it. Hilarity, naturally, ensues. Fans watched the trailer, shared, liked, commented, and demanded, when do we get to see the damn thing?
Tempers grew. Frustrated keysmashes occurred. The question was repeated again and again. Supernatural aired some more episodes with Penikett, and everyone wanted to see the charming and adorably clueless Alar battle...

Strategic Partners, a presentation of the Atlantic Film Festival, has announced the producers selected to participate as part of the inaugural project exchange with Mexico’s Los Cabos International Film Festival and Brazil’s RioContentMarket, in addition to an incredible line-up of producers and projects. As part of a two year spotlight on Latin America, one Mexican producer with a feature film in development and one Brazilian producer with a television project in development have been invited to participate at Strategic Partners 2014, September 11 - 14 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A Canadian feature film in development will then be selected from this year’s Strategic Partners to participate at Los Cabos International Film Festival, November 11 - 14, 2014. Additionally, a Canadian television project in development looking for Brazilian co-production partners will be chosen to attend RioContentMarket, February 2015. Fast-paced but insipidly dull, Reasonable Doubt is thriller-lite, not quite capable of mounting enough tension to make its brisk 91-minute runtime bearable, and certainly not skilled enough to make any of its twists remotely surprising. It’s never been a prerequisite in Hollywood for a movie to showcase originality, but one of the most irritating things about Reasonable Doubt is that it doesn’t even do well what’s been done before. Aside from its talented cast (all of whom could do much, much better), there’s nothing to make this movie really worth your time.
The plot follows Mitch Brockton (Dominic Cooper), an up-and-coming District Attorney who lives a charmed life. He’s a star in the courtroom, with enough charisma to make any jury hang on his every word, a loving family man with a beautiful wife (Erin Karpluk) and newborn daughter, and even always the most popular guy at the office.

Title: Reasonable Doubt Director: Peter P. Croudins Starring: Dominic Cooper, Gloria Reuben, Samuel L. Jackson, Erin Karpluk, Ryan Robbins When a director is so utterly disheartened with a finished product that, regardless of whether they had final cut, he or she takes measures to remove their name… well, that really says something. And such is the case with “Reasonable Doubt,” a labyrinthine legal thriller that starts off with an interesting enough premise but quickly devolves into a ramshackle delivery vehicle for Dominic Cooper’s misadventures in accent and the sort of disinterested glowering bullcrap that Samuel L. Jackson reliably pulls out for paycheck gigs devoid of character or sense. Director Peter Howitt (“Sliding Doors,” [ Read More ]

VOD is where it’s at these days. In recent weeks, various titles have been scheduled to land on-demand before opening in theaters, from Lars von Trier’s four-hour-long sex epic Nymphomaniac to the Sharlto Copley-starring mind-bender Open Grave. The trend seems like it’ll only continue growing through next year, with simultaneous VOD-theatrical release dates being added to the calendar on a daily basis.
One film taking that road to release is Reasonable Doubt, which stars Dominic Cooper and Samuel L. Jackson. Today, we have the first trailer for the movie, clearing up a few plot aspects and promising a very fast-moving thriller. Check it out below:
Though the film’s plot reminds me an awful lot of The Lincoln Lawyer, the presence of capable stars like Cooper and Jackson suggest that Reasonable Doubt might turn out decently. The trailer certainly plays up the cat-and-mouse angle, as well...
