Halo Infinite is the first open-world game in the series, and its development cycle reflects that. Taking 6 years to develop on 343’s brand-new Slipspace engine, Infinite ended up releasing in 2021, after a year-long delay from its initial planned release.
Going the open-world route was a big point of debate for the return of Master Chief, as well as Infinite‘s unconventional direction as a “spiritual reboot” built on a smaller scale compared to other open-world titles. However, here’s why that might have been the very element that saved the franchise.
Halo Infinite’s Open World Is Much Different To Other Games
No padded-out fetch quests in Halo Infinite‘s map, says Crocker.
Speaking with The Gamer, Halo Infinite associate director Paul Crocker explained that the development team consciously avoided mimicking modern trends or relying on comparisons to other titles:

Note: This post contains spoilers for "The Wire."
Is "The Wire" still one of the greatest TV shows of all time? David Simon's sprawling, complex portrait of Baltimore has appeared on multiple "best of" lists over the years, popping up near the top of masterpiece-filled rankings from outlets like Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Empire, and more. The HBO series, which really couldn't have worked before that channel's dominance in early 2000s, currently ranks sixth-highest of all time on IMDb, and despite never winning an Emmy, it's earned a Peabody, DGA and WGA awards, and a spot on the American Film Institute's Television Programs of The Year list three different times.
"The Wire" is no doubt a work of storytelling genius, and much of its tremendous effect is cumulative. The series starts at the street level of Maryland's biggest city, examining the effects of drugs and gang life before refocusing...

The rise and fall are natural happenings in any facet of markets, and the gaming sector has been infested by this a lot recently. From Call of Duty to Halo, the once-admired franchises by fans are loathed, with some hoping developers revisit the roots to make them the fine franchises they once were.

There’s no denying that the Halo season 2 finale delivered the goods, not only finally getting Master Chief and Cortana to the ring itself but also setting up storylines from the original game that will hopefully pay off in big ways in a third season. But despite a cliffhanger finale that introduced both 343 Guilty Spark and the Flood parasite, and that ended with John-117 preparing to trek deeper into the depths of the ring, we still haven’t heard anything about Halo season 3.
Not that the Halo team isn’t already thinking about what could come next. In fact, judging from comments made earlier this year, they’re more than ready to finish the fight.
“You always have to assume the best, right? And you wanna be writing with that long-term view in mind. So, definitely there’s story beyond season 2. We would love to be able to explore,...

We have a trailer for the Fallout TV show, and it looks like it’ll be a fantastic experience, even for those who aren’t familiar with the franchise. From what we can see, the producers have worked tirelessly to ensure that every detail in the show is perfect and it doesn’t look out of place.
This is one issue that many TV shows and films have resorted to over recent years, as most productions tend to use a lot of CGI and green screens to ensure quality rather than physical effects. According to Ella Purnell, this isn’t the case, as she has stated that she was impressed that Jonathon Nolan didn’t rely on green leotards over physical effects.

The post-apocalyptic world has not yet become a thing of the past. Another addition to the list is the latest Fallout TV show, which strikingly resembles the world players witnessed in its video games. The show, starring Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, and Aaron Moten, will be available in binge format on Prime Video on April 11, 2024.
While game adaptations have become common with the likes of Halo, Witcher, The Last of Us, and more, Fallout appears to have done justice with its respective franchise. Especially in The Last of Us TV show, it misses out on many things that were originally featured in the game, including timeline changes and narrative development.

With Episode 6 of Halo Season 2 now on Paramount+, the release dates for Episodes 7 and 8 have been locked in.
The latest installment of the show had some massive developments.
For one, Pablo Schreiber’s Master Chief came across Kate Kennedy’s Kai for the first time since the fall of Reach, leading to a brutal beatdown between friends as they disagreed on the proper course of action. The entire exchange led to Kai finally confronting Joseph Morgan’s James Ackerson about everything that has happened, much of which he had no idea about.

While it’s never pretended to be a direct adaptation of the classic video game series it’s based on, the Halo TV series has made some really weird alterations to Master Chief and his world, and the latest change to the story Halo fans know and love is the most bewildering yet. It comes just as the show finally sets course to cover the Fall of Reach, a pivotal event from the games and tie-in books that has somehow taken a season and a half to get to.
To be fair, there are a few things to like about season 2 episode 4, “Reach.” For one, at the height of its war-movie-style CGI-heavy action, the show finally feels like Halo and not a talky political thriller that only occasionally flirts with the spectacle of the games. The second season of Halo may be hitting too close to home for Pablo Schreiber’s Master Chief and Silver Team. After the destruction of Sanctuary in the premiere, John-117 suspects it’s only the beginning of a mass offensive that will eventually end with the Covenant invading Reach, the center of Oni and humanity’s military might in deep space. If Reach falls, there’s basically nothing stopping the Covenant from heading to Earth next.
The invasion of Earth is something that did eventually happen in the games. Although the series is set on a separate timeline than the games, this invasion feels inevitable on the Paramount+ series too, especially since no one in Oni command heeds Master Chief’s warnings that the Covenant have already infiltrated Reach. Video games have always had a hit-or-miss relationship with adaptations. For every fantastic movie or series, there are countless mediocre cahs-grabs that pad studio IP and disappoint fans. But, most of those lackluster productions seem to be a thing of the past as we have entered a wonderful era of quality video game series and films. Two years ago, the long-awaited live-action take on Halo arrived on Paramount+ with Pablo Schreiber in the lead as Master Chief. The series was good enough to warrant a renewal but with a new showrunner brought in to pull the story in a new direction. The result is the far superior second season of Halo, premiering this week (read our review Here).

The first 15 minutes of the premiere episode of Halo Season 2 is gripping. It’s filled with dread, action, and elements of horror that executive producers David Wiener and Kiki Wolfkill are hoping to establish with the gunfights this time around. “That first scene establishes the tone with which we want to approach the action. That’s keeping it grounded and making it feel real and visceral and putting us right in the fight with our Spartans,” Wiener said. The sequence contains Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) on a foggy battlefield, taking on an unknown number of the Covenant equipped with energy swords, and the season takes place during the events of 2010’s prequel title Halo: Reach, albeit from the perspective of the show’s characters instead of the game’s Nobel Six. Almost two years ago, the decades-long struggle to bring an adaptation of the beloved video game franchise "Halo" to life finally resulted in, well, a seriously underwhelming Paramount+ show. The fact that the live-action debut of the Master Chief, his Spartan super-soldiers, and their epic war against the alien Covenant had to be relegated to a streaming service, as opposed to receiving the full red carpet treatment on the big screen, was probably an indictment in and of itself. It spoke poorly of this irrevocably Silicon Valley-influenced studio system we currently find ourselves in, and of the lack of ambition and imagination of the decisionmakers involved. Ultimately, it also revealed our own shortcomings as an audience -- one that couldn't simply be satisfied with a number of tremendously well-realized stories told in their perfect medium.

Master Chief is never seen without his helmet. While that statement may be true of the video-game franchise, the live-action Halo TV series wasted little time in removing Master Chief’s helmet. That move sparked a backlash from fans, but according to Halo star Pablo Schreiber… you’d better get used to it.
While speaking with Collider, Schreiber said that if seeing Master Chief without his helmet is truly a deal-breaker, then you might as well give up on the Halo TV series. “Hmm, well, that one you’ll have to get used to,” Schreiber said. “We established that in the first episode that was going to happen. That’s what our show is about; it’s about exploring the dynamic between John and Master Chief. So, if you’re not on board with that one, you might as well give up. As far as what to say to gamers,...

After many years in development hell, a live-action adaptation of the Halo video game franchise finally made its way out into the world as a Paramount+ streaming series back in 2022, with the first episode of the show quickly becoming Paramount+’s most-watched premiere. But while the TV series is returning for a second season, which is scheduled to begin streaming on February 8th, the first season wasn’t met with overwhelming positivity, as many fans of the video game source material were disappointed by some of the choices made for the adaptation. Not even star Pablo Schreiber, who plays the character Master Chief on the show, was entirely happy with that first season. Speaking with SFX Magazine, Schreiber revealed there was even one element that he felt was a huge mistake: the romantic storyline with Master Chief and Makee (Charlie Murphy), which even included a sex scene.

For those who may be unaware, allow me to fill you in on a little secret: Gamers can be a pretty, er, passionate bunch. With superhero movies on the downswing and Hollywood's ever-imaginative bean counters frantically searching for their latest holy grail, video game adaptations appear to be the next Big Thing on the horizon. That comes with all sorts of sky-high expectations -- particularly when you're talking about one of the most beloved video game franchises ever made.
The somewhat hit-or-miss first season of "Halo" (to put it generously) often fell victim to that yawning gulf between expectations and reality. Bizarrely enough, the showrunners didn't bother adapting the events of the original game, "Combat Evolved," or even the hundreds of pages of material from the tie-in novels that detailed the origins of Master Chief and his cadre of super-soldiers. The story the Paramount+ series told instead was an oddball mix of head-scratching new material,...

Forget the helmet discourse. Should Master Chief fuck? It’s a question that has haunted Halo fans since John-117 got it on with human Covenant double agent Makee (Charlie Murphy) in the first season of the Paramount+ sci-fi series. However you may feel about this video game hero having sex for the first time in franchise history while Cortana watches on (I’m not making this up), Halo star Pablo Schreiber is taking a very clear stance on the matter.
“The decision to make the connection between Makee and John a romantic connection was a huge mistake,” Schreiber told SFX magazine (via GamesRadar) ahead of Halo season 2, which premieres next month. “I felt it was a huge mistake at the time and I argued against it and fought against it. But I am who I am. I don’t write the scripts. I only give my opinion. It wasn’t listened to.

Recently, Paramount+ unveiled the initial trailer for the upcoming second season of its live-action Halo series. While the Season 2 trailer suggests improvements over the first season, there remains a significant concern that fans are earnestly hoping to see addressed. In the original games, Master Chief consistently kept his identity concealed behind a mask. The decision to have Pablo Schreiber portray the live-action Master Chief stirred controversy during the first season when the character was revealed unmasked for the first time. Many fans expressed their discontent, asserting that the character is more impactful when wearing a helmet. With Season 2’s poster and trailer hinting at more scenes without the iconic helmet, fans have raised objections, with some going as far as photoshopping the mask back onto Master Chief in the new promotional material. Paramount+ The initial season delivered an emotionally charged narrative with impressive action sequences, mainly when Master Chief and other Spartans engaged the Covenant.

The excitement is building for ‘Halo‘ season 2, and the new trailer from Paramount Plus has just upped the ante. Set to premiere on February 8th on Paramount Plus, the upcoming season promises to dive deep into the Halo universe, focusing on the critical planet Reach.
In this trailer, we’re immediately thrown into the thick of things. It opens with a voiceover, possibly from Makee (played by Charlie Murphy), who’s become a key figure in the series as Master Chief’s girlfriend. Her words are chilling, hinting at a dark future for Reach. She declares her intention to be ‘the instrument of their extinction,’ setting a grave tone for the season.
Master Chief, portrayed by Pablo Schreiber, faces overwhelming odds against the Covenant elites. The visuals are striking, showing the stark reality of the conflict. We also see Kai-125, played by Kate Kennedy, watching in despair as Covenant orbital strikes decimate Unsc ships.

Two years ago, “Halo” premiered on Paramount+ as one of the upstart streamer’s tentpole series, with high hopes that the show would soar thanks to the original videogame’s popularity. But “Halo” failed to take off with critics, with many meeting it with a mixed reception. Maybe Season 2 of the series will fare better overall, as Pablo Schreiber‘s Master Chief takes on the Covenant yet again.

"Sometimes events are beyond our control. And in those moments, we save what we can." Paramount+ has unveiled the full official trailer for Season 2 of the live-action Halo series on Paramount+. Much like the other epic sci-fi series Foundation on Apple TV+, it looks like they're kicking things up quite a few notches for Season 2, getting much bigger than the first season that arrived in 2022. In Season 2, Master Chief John-117 leads his team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant. As humanity's best hope for winning the war, John-117 discovers a deep connection to a mysterious alien structure with the key to humankind's salvation, or its destruction — the Halo. Pablo Schreiber returns again with Natascha McElhone as Dr. Halsey, Jen Taylor as Cortana, Bokeem Woodbine as Soren-066, with Shabana Azmi, Natasha Culzac, Olive Gray, Yerin Ha, Bentley Kalu, Kate Kennedy, Tylan Bailey, Danny Sapani, Charlie Murphy,...

Paramount+’s two-minute official trailer for the sci-fi thriller Halo teases that when events spiral out of control, we save what we can. “Looking at your faces, I do not see defeat and I do not see surrender,” says Captain Jacob Keyes (Danny Sapani). Master Chief and the Spartans have heroes on their side, while the Covenant does not.
Pablo Schreiber (American Gods) returns to lead the video game-inspired series as Master Chief, Spartan-117, with Natascha McElhone (Californication) back as Dr. Halsey. Returning cast members include Jen Taylor, Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo), Shabana Azmi (Fire), Natasha Culzac (The Witcher), Olive Gray (Half Moon Investigations), and Yerin Ha (Reef Break). The "Halo" season 2 trailer has arrived, and it brings with it the return of Master Chief who is now facing a new, familiar threat to those who played the games: The Covenant. Indeed, this season will see the sword-wielding aliens wreaking havoc. It appears that the folks at Paramount+ spared no expense in crafting the second season of this show, but will that be enough to turn it into the series everyone hoped it would be in the first place?
This trailer is very moody and overflowing with gloomy action. It's got a "Starship Troopers" vibe to it at times, just without all of the vibrant color and blatant political commentary. We're also, once again, seeing Master Chief without his helmet off an awful lot. Love it or hate it, that element of the show remains in place. It's very cinematic and a lot of the visual effects look big-screen worthy.

Paramount+ revealed the official trailer for Halo‘s second season, which has Pablo Schreiber returning as Master Chief John-117 as he leads a team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant.
The new season has showrunner David Wiener (Brave New World) taking over for last season’s Steven Kane, who oversaw physical production on the first season in Budapest, and Kyle Killen, who supervised writing and production in the United States.
The new footage shows plenty of space action, though it appears a bit dim and murky (at least, in this trailer):
Wiener, Schreiber and newcast member Joseph Morgan had unveiled the first new footage for season two at Ccxp in São Paulo in December.
