Since 1974, Charlie Daniels’ Volunteer Jam concerts have been a regular fixture on the Music City event calendar for country and Southern rock fans. That was until 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic shut down large events and the concert’s namesake died in July at the age of 83, rendering its September 2020 staging impossible.
The concert was initially rescheduled to go on as a tribute to the musical legacy of Daniels on February 22nd, 2021, but has once again been postponed due to ongoing Covid-19 concerns. The 2021 Volunteer Jam: A Musical Salute to Charlie...

Chris Young and Kane Brown team up for a new track that highlights the country singers’ real-life friendship and Tennessee roots. Titled “Famous Friends,” the track is Young’s latest release from an upcoming album project.
Written by Young with Cary Barlowe and Corey Crowder, the guitar-driven tune plays up both artists’ small-town bona fides with mentions of Rutherford and Hamilton counties — Young and Brown’s respective home areas. The basic idea is one of every person having a degree of small-town renown, with both Young and Brown praising a few of their pals’ accomplishments.

Carrie Underwood was the top honoree at Wednesday night’s fan-voted CMT Music Awards, winning the climactic video of the year honor as well as female video of the year for “Drinking Alone.”
Gabby Barrett, whose crossover hit “I Hope” went No. 1 at country earlier this year and just topped the Hot AC chart this week, won breakthrough video of the year. Accepting from home like most of the honorees, she mimed “holding my fake trophy” and noted that “this is my first time receiving a television award.” Barrett’s award was presented, remotely, by Taylor Swift, who’d picked up the same trophy 13 years earlier.
Accepting for collaborative video of the year for “Nobody But You,” Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani toasted one another and looked the model of domestic fireside tranquility. “I love you so much,” said Shelton. “I love you so much,” responded Stefani, who admitted that...

Carrie Underwood was the big winner at the 2020 CMT Music Awards with her two victories. And with those trophies she extended a few of her records. Her Video of the Year win for “Drinking Alone” was her eighth in that category, more than any other artist. She also won Female Video of the Year for that song, and that was her eighth victory in that race too — also a record. And with 22 wins in her career, she’s the most awarded artist of all time at the CMT Awards. Check out the complete list of winners here.
Despite Underwood’s past dominance at these awards we had given Luke Combs the slight edge to win Video of the Year for “Beer Never Broke My Heart.” Alas, Combs was shut out of his three nominations as he was also upset for Male Video of the Year, which went to Luke Bryan for “One Margarita.

During the Tuesday, July 14 episode of “America’s Got Talent,” the judges meet Kameron Ross, a gay country singer who grew up in conservative Texas where his lifestyle wasn’t accepted. “At that point you start to question, is this what I want to do?” Kameron wonders aloud. “Is your dream worth who you are?” After taking a break from music, he now knows that he wants to be a successful country singer. The only problem? Notoriously mean judge Simon Cowell doesn’t seem to like Kameron’s cover of Brooks & Dunn‘s “Red Dirt Road,” so he dramatically stops him mid-performance (watch the “Agt” video above).

Happy Friday, dear readers! While time might feel like a bit of a flat circle right now, the weekend is officially upon us once again, and I don’t know about you, but these days, movies are providing a very much-needed distraction. With that in mind, I thought I’d put together a list of horror and sci-fi movies that were released throughout the 1990s that you can currently stream for free on a variety of platforms like Vudu, Tubi TV, Crackle, Pluto TV, and IMDb TV.
I just figured we often spend a lot of time celebrating genre movies from the 1980s, so it was time to give the ’90s their due, and there are a lot of great movies from that era that you can currently watch for free via streaming.
Stay safe, stay healthy and happy streaming!

Most of Nashville’s country-music community should have been in Las Vegas by now. The 55th Acm Awards were to be held Sunday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, with trophies handed out, nominees performing, and 12 million or so viewers tuning in to CBS’s three-hour live broadcast. But like many other seemingly untouchable tentpoles — from SXSW to the Tony Awards — the coronavirus pandemic derailed those plans, leaving the Academy of Country Music, CBS, and Dick Clark Productions, the longtime producers of the ACMs, without a show.

While 20-year-old Petrou, who was formerly affiliated with Team 10, has claimed to be the co-founder of The Hype House alongside 17-year-old creator Chase Hudson (15.8 million followers), Keech began claiming to be a co-founder as well in January. Keech is also currently embroiled in a trademark dispute over 'The Hype House' name, with several dueling applications currently in the works. This is a critical battle, per Insider, as The Hype House is launching a 90s-inspired merch line later this month.

There’s an acoustic segment during Sam Hunt’s concerts where he performs hits by Nineties country divas. On Wednesday night, he revisited one of the biggest crowd-pleasers, Bobbie Gentry’s “Fancy,” in front of the artist who made it popular in the Nineties, Reba McEntire.
Reba was among the honorees at the 2019 Cmt Artists of the Year ceremonies in Nashville, receiving the Artist of a Lifetime Award. Introduced by Vince Gill, who went off-script to speak about his friendship with the entertainer, Reba accepted the award by nodding to...

Country star Kane Brown, unabashedly distraught over the death of his touring drummer Kenny Dixon just four days earlier in a car accident, dedicated his “Cmt Artists of the Year” award to Dixon in a heart-rending appearance on the telecast Wednesday night.
Brown ceded the performance slot he would have been allowed to friend Chris Young, who followed Brown’s speech with a song he had written for a friend who also died in an automobile accident, “Drowning,” which had just been released as a single in June. Young kept up a stoic demeanor during his performance, but the emotion he was feeling was evident from the hasty retreat he made from the microphone as soon as he had finished the song’s final line.
“Whoo,” Brown kept repeating, quietly and nervously, as he anxiously thumbed the corner of his trophy while choking up on the stage of Nashville’s...

In what has quickly become a “can’t miss” evening, top country artists will come together to perform their favorite hits from the 1980’s to raise awareness and funds in the fight to end Alzheimer’s. Ticket sales will be open to the general public starting Monday, July 22 at 11 a.m. Cdt via www.alz.org/danceparty.
“Our third year is going to be the best yet, and I can’t wait to bring together another great group of musicians to rock out to hits from the ’80s,” said Kimberly Williams-Paisley. “The event is raising awareness and much-needed funds that will help accelerate research and push us closer to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Chris Young has a pretty solid track record when it comes to duets: his last two, “Think of You” with Cassadee Pope and “Sober Saturday Night” with Vince Gill, were both chart-topping hits. So expectations are high for his latest collaboration, “Town Ain’t Big Enough” with Lauren Alaina.
Like “Think of You,” it’s also a breakup anthem, with the Tennessee native and the Georgia-born Alaina — both of them reality show alums: Young was on Nashville Star, Alaina on American Idol— trying in vain to split their small town...

The winner of season 16 of “The Voice” was announced on May 21, 2019 at the end of the two-hour results show. But in a break with tradition last season’s champion, Chevel Shepherd, was not part of the line-up of talent that performed in the lead-up to the big reveal.
Compare that to when Chevel claimed the title in December 2018 and the season 14 winner, Brynn Cartelli, got a chance to sing her new single, “Last Night’s Mascara.” That exposure propelled the song to #19 on the charts. And Brynn then got to spend the first part of 2019 touring the country as the opening act for her coach Kelly Clarkson.
Brynn has done better than the season 13 winner, Chloe Kohanski, who likewise returned to “The Voice” to debut her new single “Come This Far” on last spring’s season 14 finale. While she had made it to No. 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her...

Earl Thomas Conley, who enjoyed a nearly unbroken streak of 18 Number One hits in the Eighties — including “Holding Her and Loving You,” “Angel in Disguise” and the duet with Emmylou Harris “We Believe in Happy Endings” — died in Nashville early Wednesday morning, following a battle with a condition similar to dementia. He was 77.
An influential singer who also wrote or co-wrote the bulk of his hits, Conley was memorialized in a Twitter post by Blake Shelton, who wrote: “My heart is absolutely destroyed today… Earl was my all time favorite singer,...

Chris Young has released a video to “Raised on Country,” his nostalgic Merle- and Willie-name-checking single released earlier this year. The throwback video features the Grand Ole Opry member performing the song within the sparse vocal booth of the legendary country music radio station Wsm as he pays tribute to everyone from George Strait to Joe Diffie and quotes portions of Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee.”
Co-written with Corey Crowder and Cary Barlowe, “Raised on Country,” which is expected to be included in Young’s yet-to-be announced next album, has already...

Chris Janson’s new single “Good Vibes” plays like the country equivalent of “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” a tirelessly upbeat song that preaches positivity above all else.
The Grand Ole Opry member performed the track, a preview of his next project for Warner Music Nashville, during a recent appearance on the Opry stage. Backed by the house band, Janson sang about shunning the negative by putting his “windows down and his blinders on.” The “Buy Me a Boat” singer wrote “Good Vibes” with Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell.

“I ain’t trying to hear the negative/I’m just trying to change the narrative,” sings Chris Janson in his new single “Good Vibes.” The follow-up to the Cma-nominated ballad “Drunk Girl,” the song is the first new music from the singer, songwriter and Grand Ole Opry member (aside from a Christmas song in December) since his 2017 album Everybody.
Written by Janson with Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell, “Good Vibes” is representative of the Missouri native’s worldview, one based around the idea of embracing the positive, especially when it comes to family.

In 2017, Cassadee Pope made the tough decision to part ways with the label that had been her home since she won Season 3 of The Voice. Republic Records, in conjunction with Big Machine, had released the former Hey Monday singer’s solo debut Frame by Frame in 2013, but, other than the 2016 stopgap Ep Summer, she didn’t give much indication as to when a proper follow-up might be on the way. Not that she wasn’t trying.

Chris Young will promote his new single “Raised on Country” with a tour of the same name. The Tennessee native announced the first leg of dates, which begins May 16th in Alpharetta, Georgia. Chris Janson will appear as direct support, with Jimmie Allen, LoCash and Dylan Scott on select shows.
Young released “Raised on Country,” his first new music since last year’s “Hangin’ On,” earlier last month. Co-written with Corey Crowder and Cary Barlowe, the tough-sounding track name-checks Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Joe Diffie and George Strait, and finds Young praising his “honky-tonk attitude.

The Chief dishes out some fatherly advice to his sons, Joy Williams puts a new spin on a Depeche Mode classic and Kacey Musgraves teams up with Ronnie Milsap in this list of songs to stream this week.
Eric Church, “Some of It”
The follow-up single to “Desperate Man” finds Church in a fatherly mood, singing to his two sons about love, faith and the shelf life of good beer. More mainstream than most of his recent boundary-pushing hits, “Some of It” sounds destined for a lifetime of wedding slow dances and graduation-day playbacks.

With his booming Southern baritone and a sonic presence that often skews toward the conservative end of the spectrum, Chris Young has never been shy about his traditional country influence. But in a new single titled “Raised on Country,” the Tennessee native spells it out in plain English.

The season 14 winner of “The Voice” Brynn Cartelli returned to perform her new single, “Last Night’s Mascara,” on Tuesday’s results show. Minutes later it was revealed that Chevel Shepherd took the season 15 title. Let’s hope that Brynn, who like Chevel was coached by Kelly Clarkson, has more success than the season 13 champ Chloe Kohanski.
Chloe had returned to “The Voice” to debut her new single “Come This Far” on last spring’s season 14 finale. While she had made it to No. 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her winner’s song “Wish I Didn’t Love You” the previous December, that second single didn’t even chart. That might be why we have yet to get an album from Chole, the sixth champion for coach Blake Shelton who has been with the show since the start.
