With the buzzy sci-fi series Extant premiering tonight, high-rated returning fave Under the Dome on its way for later this summer, high-concept thriller Scorpion premiering this fall and James Patterson adaptation Zoo in the cards for the summer of 2015, CBS is in a pretty desirable spot right now. And the good news just keeps coming for the network, with word that CBS just inked a rich deal with streaming service Netflix so that the site can offer Zoo, adapted from the novel by Patterson and Michael Ledwidge, as soon as it finishes airing.
The pact is rumored to be even higher than the $900,000 Amazon is reportedly paying per episode of Under the Dome and Extant (which Netflix wanted as well). Intriguingly, whereas Amazon is able to put episodes of each of those series on its Prime Instant Video service four days after they air, Netflix has also agreed not to...

"The Inspired" featured a wholesome and pleasant family portrait... if the Addams Family is your thing, that is.
Breen Frazier (who wrote this Criminal Minds episode) served up the second half of a gruesome and utterly lovely story, one that featured a family who put the "diss" in "dysfunction." There was a mother who was a vindictive narcissist and a pair of psychopathic twins - one delusional and one vindictive - along with a schizophrenic father. The dad in this story was by comparison a ray of sunshine:
Morgan: We're looking for a Mr. Bill Robbins.
Robbins: The sun and the moon have arrived. I'm ready to join you in your golden chariot.
Reid: We'd like to ask you a few questions, if you have a moment?
Robbins: Yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes yes! My life is the answer to your questions. | permalink

On Monday afternoon, I had the opportunity to chat by phone for about an hour with Mike Medavoy, the Hollywood insider with a star on the Walk of Fame who started out in a studio mailroom over 50 years ago, worked his way up to casting director, morphed into a talent agent, became head of production at a studio, and then decided to be a producer himself. Last year, Phoenix Pictures, the production company that he and Arnold Messer co-founded in 1995 and have run together ever since, released two critically-acclaimed and commercially-triumphant films: Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island” and Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan.” Thanks to the best picture nomination for the latter, Medavoy is now, for the first time — after more than four decades in the business, and having previously helped to guide no fewer than 16 films to best picture Oscar nominations, including seven that won — an Oscar nominee himself.

Kevin Williamson, creator of "Dawson's Creek" and the "Scream" feature franchise, wrote the script with Julie Plec ("Kyle Xy). Williamson is exec producing with Plec, Alloy's Les Morgenstein and Bob Levy.
