Even if "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania" is arguably the lowest point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and marked the beginning of what seems to be the end of its dominance in pop culture and box office, there is no denying that the first two "Ant-Man" movies are fantastic. They serve important roles in balancing out rather bleak and dense chapters in the Infinity Saga with some light fun that also grounds the universe and shows how regular people live outside of the big world-ending events.
A big part of the fun is Scott Lang's group of friends turned co-workers in his X-Con Security crew, which includes David Dastmalchian's Kurt — who delivers the best bit in either of the two movies. The bit begins when the crew hears about the second film ("Ant-Man and The Wasp")'s villain, Ghost, who has the ability to turn invisible. Kurt wastes...

Brad Pitt, Robert Downey Jr., and Keanu Reeves are three of the most prominent stars in Hollywood. Pitt was at the beginning of his career giving fans acclaimed movies like Thelma & Louise in 1991 but the actor lost a movie role he wanted in the same year and it also happened to Downey Jr. and Reeves.

The impact of losing the role upon all three stars may seem insignificant considering their remarkable cinematic career but the loss of a movie may hit hard. After their horrible auditions for Ron Howard’s Backdraft, the trio lost the role to William Baldwin. The movie could have been in the resume of one of the actors.

The Marvel vs. DC movie debate has been going on for a long time. Sometimes, even the actors and directors share their views on such matters. Years ago, Zack Snyder made a remark on MCU movies, especially Ant-Man and the Wasp. The superhero film, starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michael Pena, was released in 2015. At that time, Snyder was working on his DC movie, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Gore Verbinski would seem to have hit a snag in his big-budget blockbuster career after his Lone Ranger movie for Disney became a notoriously bloated flop. However, he was able to return with a smaller directorial effort after that, with the suspense film A Cure for Wellness. It has been eight years since the release of A Cure for Wellness, and Verbinski returns from his hiatus to helm an action-adventure film with the humorous title Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. The movie sports an impressive cast, including Sam Rockwell, Michael Peña, Haley Lu Richardson, Zazie Beetz and Juno Temple. The film has just started production on location in South Africa.
The description of the movie’s plot, according to Deadline, reads, “The film, written by Matthew Robinson (Love & Monsters), centers on a man from the future (Rockwell) who arrives at a diner in Los Angeles where he must recruit...

The next collaboration between Jason Statham and David Ayer (with a Sylvester Stallone script) – Levon’s Trade – is now shooting, with further casting announced.
Earlier this year we were treated to a rip-roaringly good time when director David Ayer and star Jason Statham brought us The Beekeeper. You can catch our review for that film here, but in short, it was lots of fun and following a theatrical run where it grossed north of $150m, it likely made a profit for all involved.
As such, the production companies behind The Beekeeper have once again acquired the services of Ayer and Statham and are hoping to repeat the trick once again, this time with Levon’s Trade.
As with The Beekeeper, Amazon MGM has agreed to handle distribution in the US, and none other than Sylvester Stallone has adapted the screenplay from Chuck Dixon’s novel.

Deadline reports that principal photography has kicked off on Levon’s Trade, an action thriller starring Jason Statham. The project has also added a few new members to the cast, with David Harbour (Stranger Things), Michael Peña (Narcos: Mexico), Jason Flemyng (Boiling Point) and Arianna Rivas (The Harvest) signing on to appear in Levon’s Trade.
David Ayer is directing Levon’s Trade from a screenplay by none other than Sylvester Stallone, with revisions by Ayer. The project is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Chuck Dixon. The book is the first installment of the Levon Cade series, which consists of eleven novels. With so much material, this could easily be another franchise starter for Statham.

AppleTV may be betting a lot on their big budget, expansive follow-up to the acclaimed "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific" miniseries with the WWII drama "Masters of the Air," but this week the war drama that is making waves is actually on Netflix — and it came out a decade ago.
As we've seen time and time again, Netflix can give underseen titles a second chance at finding a global audience — and maybe even lead to a continuation of the original story. This time it is the 2014 war drama "Fury," starring Brad Pitt and Shia Labeouf, that has audiences enthralled.
The film was written and directed by David Ayer and is without a doubt his best movie. "Fury" follows the crew of an American tank fighting their way through Germany during the final weeks of World War II, focusing on the heavy casualties suffered by American crews when engaging in combat against German tanks.

Year 2023 will be remembered in Hollywood for various phenomena — the strikes, Barbenheimer — but for Latinos, 2023 was the year that saw a relatively significant number of movies and TV releases from and about their community, in a variety of genres. With actors and writers spending about half of last year unable to promote their projects, the atmosphere at Neuehouse in Hollywood was all the more electric last Friday evening as a who’s who of Latin entertainment, media, sports and politics came together to toast the excellence they saw on the big and small screens.

We all love Captain America and Iron Man. Those shining icons made the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the powerhouse franchise that we know, and that at least some of us continue to love. But the MCU has never been just about the guys in the suits. Kevin Feige and his collaborators built the franchise on the regular people around those with cool costumes and code names, the normal folks who trade witty barbs and give Spider-Man and Captain Marvel something to fight for.
These heroes deserve their day in the sun. So here are fifteen of the greatest non-superpowered heroes of the MCU!

Dear Hollywood,
As the Thanksgiving holiday dawns, I urge you to include Latino films and performances on your winter watch list and give Hollywood Latinos and their projects a fair chance to be seen.
While Latinos are a growing and essential part of the cultural and social fabric of America, based on the dismal numbers from the recent USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative Report on major Hollywood films released between 2007-2022, it’s clear that Hollywood — America’s narrative-creating and image-defining institution — is broadly failing to acknowledge or include the Latino community.
The Annenberg report notes slow progress over the years. In 2007, no Hispanic/Latino actor held a lead or co-lead role in major Hollywood films. In 2021 and 2022, there were marginal gains, with 10 films where Hispanic/Latino actors held lead or co-lead roles, out of a total of 109 and 118 leading roles, respectively. Among directors and producers of major Hollywood films, less than 5% were Hispanic or Latino,...

Wholesome and inspiring, the biopic A Million Miles Away follows the bumpy trajectory of José Hernández (Michael Peña) from childhood migrant farm worker to NASA astronaut. Hernández, a smart and curious kid, gets stars in his eyes when he sees the very last of the Apollo moon missions on TV. But a space career seems, well, a million miles away for the first-generation American who travels with his parents and siblings harvesting California crops. (Credit: Prime Video) It struck a chord with Peña. “My mom grew up not too far from where we shot in Mexico,” he revealed before the actors’ strike. “Neither of my parents had a lot of opportunities. Each worked two full-time jobs so we could go to good private schools. Becoming an actor is not the same as being an astronaut, but it is a nearly insane dream for anyone.” Hernández’s insane dream is fueled by encouraging teachers and parents.

Early on in Prime Video’s “A Million Miles Away,” engineer Jose Hernandez (Michael Pena) is mistaken for a janitor on his first day at Lawrence Livermore Labs.
“You’re the new guy, right?” a receptionist asks him, handing him the janitor’s set of keys and directing him to the supply room. Later in the film, Hernandez corrects her, adding, “Not that there’s anything wrong with it.”
TheWrap caught up with the real-life Jose Hernandez — who would become the first migrant farmworker to go into space — to fact-check the scene.
“In my particular case, that week two people started in the building; one was named Jose Hernandez, and the other one was, for lack of a better name, John Smith. They knew that one was an engineer, and the other was a custodian,” he recalled. “So you know, who you think they think the custodian was? That was me.

“A Million Miles Away” director Alejandra Márquez Abella still has a hard time believing she made a studio feature film.
“I never thought I was going to become a filmmaker,” Márquez Abella told TheWrap shortly after the release of her latest feature — a Prime Video biopic of astronaut Jose Hernandez (Michael Peña), the first migrant farmworker to travel to space. “I never thought I was going to make one film. This is my fourth.”
Her career started over 15 years ago, writing and directing shorts in her native Mexico. And though it was just north across the border, Hollywood seemed very far away.
“I think I’ve crossed through the Hollywood doors, as Jose crossed NASA’s,” Márquez Abella said, drawing comparisons with her film subject, who was rejected to the space program 11 times. “I had to find the confidence in myself to just not die of a panic attack every day.

The Amazon drama, about migrant worker turned astronaut José Hernández, is part rousing success story and part Nasa PR
A young boy, the son of migrant farmers from Mexico, watches the Apollo 17 moon landing on a rickety living room TV set, riveted. The same young boy, now a young man, applies to Nasa’s astronaut selection program 11 times, year after year, without success. The young man, now middle-aged, finally makes it to the Kennedy Space Center, only to train several more years for even a shot at exiting Earth.
A Million Miles Away, the Amazon biopic of the astronaut José Hernández, has all the ingredients of an inspiring, sanded-down success story: Hernández, played capably by Michael Peña, went from itinerant student to barrier-breaking electrical engineer to the International Space Station, the first migrant farm worker to go to space. It hits the usual beats of space heroism – the ambition of a gravity-defying dream,...

Now that most schools are back in session, who’s up for a history lesson? Okay, we had one a few weeks ago with the, still in theatres, Oppenheimer. And though it’s really well done, to be honest, it’s kind of a “downer” what with all the “atomic bomb stuff”. This new flick also deals with science, but it concerns the exploration of space, much like the surprise “crowd-pleaser” of 2016, Hidden Figures. Like that film, it concerns one member, rather than the mathematics trio, of a minority that is usually not the focus of these docudramas. Oh, and rather than the swinging sixties this story is much more recent, capping off in 2009. It’s really the story of a dreamer, a man who dares to imagine leaving Earth to travel A Million Miles Away.

“Rudy.” “Miracle.” “Eddie The Eagle.” “Invincible.” This small handful of films may admittedly all share a common theme revolving around sports. Still, more importantly, they tell true stories about underdogs with a dream, which can be found throughout many other related efforts over the past 100+ years of cinema history, as seen in titles ranging from “The Insider” to “Erin Brockovich.
