While plans to further TriStar’s Godzilla franchise on the big screen fell through, the animated sequel turned out to be a great alternative. Godzilla: The Series debuted mere months after the 1998 film was released, and it went on to become a popular part of Fox Kids’ Saturday morning programming. And although this continuation had a limited lifespan of just two seasons, it still managed to do the impossible and redeem Roland Emmerich’s widely disliked adaptation.
Similar to Ultra Q, Godzilla: The Series saw Dr. Niko “Nick” Tatopoulos leading a specialized team — Humanitarian Environmental Analysis Team, or H.E.A.T. for short — in the struggle against the giant and disruptive creatures (often referred to as “mutants”) who have begun to appear all across the globe. Aiding them was the lone, surviving offspring of Godzilla teased at the end of the film. And to ensure the juvenile Godzilla stood...

The Outer Critics Circle (Occ), the official organization of writers on New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers and national publications, today announced the nominees for the 72nd Annual Outer Critics Circle Awards, honoring the 2022-2023 Broadway and Off-Broadway season.
“New York, New York” received a major backing from this announcement, which coincides with the production’s opening night. The new musical with songs from John Kander, the late Fred Ebb and Lin-Manuel Miranda earned a whopping 12 nominations, the most of any production. “Some Like it Hot” trails just behind it with 10 nominations. The most nominated plays of the season are the Off-Broadway sensation “Downstate” and Broadway epic “Leopoldstadt,” both with six nominations apiece.
This is the first season with newly reconstructed acting categories, which have removed gender specifications, and have been expanded to separately include off-Broadway performers. In the previous configuration, actors in Broadway and off-Broadway productions competed in the same category.

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from the Season 9 opener of ABC’s The Goldbergs.
When The Goldbergs returned on Wednesday for its ninth season, it paid heartfelt tribute to longtime cast member George Segal, who passed away on March 23, aged 87.
The episode, titled “The Goldbergs’ Excellent Adventure,” opens with a grown-up Adam Goldberg (narrator Patton Oswalt) reflecting on the death of his grandfather, Segal’s Albert “Pops” Solomon. “Back in the ’80s, my grandpa Pops was the greatest guy ever. He was my partner in crime—sometimes literally—and was always up for an adventure,” he says. “Everyone loved Pops, which is why we had such a hard time when he passed away. But months later, we were finally moving on. Sort of…”

The Goldbergs said goodbye to their beloved Pops in Wednesday’s Season 9 premiere, as each member of the family dealt with their grief in varying fashion. (Pops’ portrayer, Og cast member George Segal, died on March 23 from bypass surgery complications.)
Months after Pops passed away quietly in his sleep, Bill points out to Murray that his family is not handling the death well: Beverly has taken to calling herself an orphan; Erica is dismissive of Geoff’s wedding ideas; Barry is angry that Pops left him a pen instead of his cherished Super Bowl watch; and Adam is carrying around...

This meet-and-greet would be like none of the dozens of others this week at Nashville’s Cma Music Festival. No autographs from this artist, and no more than a tentative “hello” or “thanks.” A handshake? Yes, but only from the left hand, not the right.
None of that mattered to the overflow crowd that lined up Friday afternoon at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The thrill was simply getting to be in the presence of Randy Travis.

With the Wonder Woman live action movie set to arrive in theaters in just over two months, it’s understandable that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment will want to put out as much merchandise bearing the likeness of the Amazon Princess as possible. One item in particular that’s worthy of attention is that of the forthcoming Wonder Woman: Commemorative Edition.
Truth be told, it’s technically not a new offering, but rather a repackaging of the amazing animated film originally released back in 2009. Unfortunately, no R-rated cut will be included as was previously reported. Despite any second guessing you may have, do know that one exists out there somewhere, as the filmmakers have admitted they had to make some alterations in order to get the PG-13 rating because, at the time, WB didn’t afford as much leeway with mature content as they do now.

The first trailer for "Finding Dory," the much-anticipated sequel to "Finding Nemo," is out, via Ellen DeGeneres' YouTube channel. The movie is set six months after the events of the first film. Spoiler alert: Dory's memory has not improved. She's snoring and sleepswimming and looking for her family, a task that should prove difficult since she can't really remember anything. But since Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton are providing the voices of Dory's parents, she'll probably find them at some point. DeGeneres, of course, is returning to provide the voice of Dory, as is Albert Brooks, who plays Marlin. Willem Dafoe and Vicki Lewis are also back. Nemo will be voiced by Hayden Rolence since Alexander Gould is a bit too old, 12 years after "Nemo," for the part. "Finding Dory" is set to be released on June 17, 2016. Check it out above!

We hadn’t checked in on Disney-Pixar’s “Finding Dory” in a while. The sequel to insta-classic “Finding Nemo” has its star, Ellen DeGeneres, who is returning to the franchise to voice the easily-confused fish Dory. There have been some voice acting developments recently, but first let’s recap as to who is returning to the film along with DeGeneres. Albert Brooks and Willem Dafoe, who played the Nemo’s dad Marlin and fishtank leader Gill, respectively, are also coming back. Vicki Lewis is also returning as fishtank denizen Deb (and, by extension, Deb’s mirror image “sister” Flo). But news has been released of two new voices joining the fun–Idris Elba and Dominic West. We already know that Idris Elba will be lending his distinctive vocals to Shere Khan in Jon Favreau’s Jungle Book. But according to his former Wire co-star Dominic West, he’ll also be working on Pixar’s sequel to Finding Nemo, Finding Dory.Talking to Shortlist, West revealed that he’s in regular contact with several of the actors from the much-praised HBO series and that he and Elba are both performing voice duties on Dory. We hope they've met around a microphone once or twice in the course of their work, and exchanged some chat in flawless Baltimore accents.Finding Dory, of course, will act as the follow-up to the company’s 2003 smash hit and explores Ellen DeGeneres’ character and her family. Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton are set as her parents, Charlie and Jenny, while Ty Burrell is comic whale sidekick Bailey. Oh! Oh! We speak Whale!

Might Pixar’s upcoming sequel Finding Dory take its characters to the mean streets of Baltimore? Almost absolutely not, but good luck getting that image out of your head now that it’s been revealed that The Wire co-stars Idris Elba and Dominic West have both signed on to lend their voices to new characters in the Finding Nemo follow-up.
West, who is starring in Showtime’s ambitious fall series The Affair, dropped the news during an interview with Shortlist, simply teasing:
“We’re both in the sequel to ‘Finding Nemo,’ so we were recording that.”
No word yet on which characters the actors will be playing, but Finding Dory is set to take place at least in part along the coast of California, where scatter-brained regal tang Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) reunites with many important people from her past one year after the events of the first film. Though Cars 2 fizzled and Monsters University didn’t really offer much to Monsters Inc. fans, Pixar has proven with Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 that it understands how to make great sequels. So we’re holding out hope for Finding Dory, a sequel to Oscar winner Finding Nemo, especially because the first film’s director Andrew Stanton is back on board. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see it until 2016 because of The Good Dinosaur getting delayed and moved to Dory‘s spot, but at least we’ve got some interesting news about the film to tide us over.

As I announced last week, instead of picking one classic drama season to revisit over the summer, I'm trying an experiment, highlighting different classic sitcom episodes from the past. First up for this summer sitcom rewind: "The Public Domain" and "Super Karate Monkey Death Car," a pair of "NewsRadio" episodes from early in the show's fourth season, coming up just as soon as I have fancy plans, and pants to match... In terms of their status at the time they aired, "NewsRadio" is among the more obscure shows I expect I'll be dealing with this summer. The mid-'90s was a pretty great period for TV comedy: "Seinfeld" at its peak, "The Simpsons" at its peak or close to it, "Frasier" presenting classical excellence each week and each season, "Friends" being a phenomenon, etc., plus other series like "3rd Rock from the Sun" and "The Drew Carey Show" that had...

On August 14th and 15th, I attended the Finding Nemo 3d Press Junket in San Francisco, CA. I believe Crush, one of the loveable sea turtles from the film, sums the whole trip up best with this memorable quote:
“Saw the whole thing, dude. First you were all like “whoa”, and we were like “whoa”, and you were like “whoa…” ”
Nemo, an adventurous young clownfish, is unexpectedly taken to a dentist’s office aquarium. It’s up to Marlin (Albert Brooks), his worrisome father, and Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), a friendly but forgetful Regal Blue Tang, to make the epic journey to bring Nemo home. Their adventure brings them face-to-face with vegetarian sharks, surfer dude turtles, hypnotic jellyfish, hungry seagulls, and more. Marlin discovers a bravery he never knew, but will he be able to find his son?
The first night of the trip we were taken to Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville,...

Watch 8 clips from Finding Nemo 3D, starring Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres and Alexander Gould! It's hard to believe it's almost 10 years since the animated Disney film helmed by Andrew Stanton (John Carter) and Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3) found release. Still, if there was ever an animated family film that will bring those once-were kids back into theaters, it's this one. Heck, I'll be there with my kids, since this came out a year before my son was born. Pic scripted by Bob Peterson, David Reynolds and Stanton, finds 3D re-release on September 14th, with a voice cast also including Erica Beck (Pearl), Elizabeth Perkins (Coral), Allison Janney (Peach), Barry Humphries (Bruce), Geoffrey Rush (Nigel), Vicki Lewis (Deb, Flo), John Ratzenberger (Fish School), Stephen Root (Bubbles), Erik Per Sullivan (Sheldon), Brad Garret (Bloat), Eric Bana (Anchor) and Stanton as Crush.

After The Lion King 3D did tremendously well at the box office towards the end of last year, Disney and Pixar announced that they would be bringing back four from their collection – two each – to the big screen in 3D.
Kicking things off will be Beauty and the Beast, which the States are set to get this coming weekend – alas, I think we have to wait until May in the UK – and then following towards the end of the year will be Finding Nemo, and DisneyPixar’s YouTube have just put up the first trailer for the re-released film. After Finding Nemo is re-released, we can then look forward to seeing Monsters, Inc. and The Little Mermaid in all new dimensions next year.

While we’re usually the first to gripe about yet another classic How I Met Your Mother misdirection, or bemoan the convoluted way in which the show’s writers continue to torture us loyal viewers by diabolically failing to deliver an answer to even the simplest of questions, we find ourselves in an uncharacteristically charitable mood after watching and re-watching last night’s controversial episode. Why? Because the simple fact of the matter is that following six plus seasons of — as fellow TV Addict @gmmrtv so eloquently tweeted “waiting for the other shoe to drop” — we had absolutely zero expectation that Robin was actually pregnant. And while we sure as heck didn’t see her inability to have kids coming (not to mention the unexpected guest appearance by Newsradio alum Vicki Lewis as her doctor!), we honestly feel that the beautiful way in which the episode ended — with Ted making...

NBC may have passed on its Wonder Woman pilot, but the Amazon princess is still heading to TV. The opening segment of this Friday's episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold features DC Comics' top heroine — voiced by Vicki Lewis — as she comes to the rescue of Batman and Steve Trevor (May 27, 6:30/5:30c, Cartoon Network). The endearingly campy appearance, Wonder Woman's first on The Brave and the Bold, includes her trademark invisible jet and the iconic theme song from the 1970s live-action Lynda Carter series. In the main storyline of the episode, "Scorn of the Star Sapphire," the Caped Crusader teams up with Green Lantern, a perfect warm up to next month's feature film starring Ryan Reynolds.

Shall I attempt to feign surprise that Lionsgate's debut in the 3D-animated game has met a wholly disastrous end? After watching Alpha and Omega, I can attest that, much like this movie's titular wolf pack caste system, there's no room for Betas to be found with 3D kiddie flicks -- they either rise to the top or irredeemably kick an audience in the crotch. So yes, there are limits to my recent Despicable Me-inspired optimism regarding wide-open playing fields for studios to challenge territory previously known only to Pixar. With this movie, Lionsgate doesn't even climb out of the sewer with visuals (courtesy of India's Crest Animation) that are, at best, inconsistent and range from lush waterfalls to flat-looking forests. Use of 3D, again, is irregular and tends towards the gimmicky while, inexplicably, ignoring the presumed depth of arboreal features and, instead, placing all focus upon the wolf characters,...
