Do you smell what The Rock is cooking? It smells like Voltaren and Polysporin. Dwayne Johnson is nursing a substantial injury to his right elbow, which he endured while making his new movie, The Smashing Machine. In a video posted to his Instagram account, Johnson proudly holds his injured elbow up to the camera, and it’s a sight to behold. “Any time your film is called The Smashing Machine, you’re going to kind of get smashed up.” That’s how Dwayne Johnson put it, as he revealed he suffered an injury on his right elbow while filming his new wrestling drama for A24.
“I got banged up pretty good today in our scenes. There might be some soft tissue fluid in there, we’ll see,” Johnson said Tuesday in a video posted to Instagram. “But the pain feels pretty good. All good.”
He said he will need to have fluid drained before having an Mri to assess the damage.
Johnson stars in The Smashing Machine as Mark Kerr, a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion. Uncut Gems co-director Benny Safdie wrote and directs the project, which is being positioned as a prestige play for Johnson, who became one of the world’s top movie stars in big-budget fare such as the Fast & Furious movies,...

Tuesday, the feature directorial debut of Daina Oniunas-Pusic examines a woman faced with crushing loss or the choice to take on an impossible task. Like most of us, she chooses a task far beyond her understanding. The setup opens the door for one of Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘s most potent performances on film. One major complaint against Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds, who are currently some of the biggest names in Hollywood, is they play it too safe with their movies. Despite having starred in dramas early in their career, since their rise to fame in Hollywood, both actors have limited themselves in a bubble and are known for playing themselves in most movies.
But things couldn’t be more different with Tom Cruise, arguably the biggest movie star on the planet, and one of the major recipes behind it is the actor’s willingness to learn.

On June 7, 1996, Buena Vista unveiled Michael Bay’s actioner The Rock, which paired Sean Connery with Nicolas Cage. The R-rated film, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, went on to gross $134 million domestically that summer. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
An above-average big-bucks action film with enough macho behavior and explosive thrills to please fans of the genre, Hollywood Pictures’ The Rock has the usual problems with credibility, but the ride is so fast and ferociously executed that one has fun with its excesses while admiring the solid performances from its trio of stars.
On target for a big breakout on its opening weekend, the final Simpson/Bruckheimer production is dedicated to the late Don of high-testosterone blockbusters. Furiously paced and ruggedly directed by sophomore helmer Michael Bay (Bad Boys), The Rock has firepower to spare and plenty of dramatic sparring, but no time for romance or genuine bonding...

When Ryan Condal decamped for the U.K. in 2020 to begin work on a Game of Thrones spinoff, it hadn’t occurred to the screenwriter that he, his wife and their two young children wouldn’t return to Los Angeles anytime soon. “It was about two years later, when the show came out and everybody watched it, that I finally thought, ‘Oh, Ok, we’re going to be here for a while,’ ” he says.
The “everybody” in question was 29 million viewers, per episode, across platforms, a stat that minted House of the Dragon as HBO’s new flagship. It returns for a second season June 16, with at least a third and a fourth all but given. Fortunately for Condal, he brought a little of Hollywood to his home office in Central London. Italy’s I Wonder Pictures has acquired Italian rights to three new titles from A24, including Benny Safdie’s hotly anticipated “The Smashing Machine” with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.
The move solidifies an ongoing rapport between the indie U.S. studio and the growing Italian distributor.
“Smashing Machine,” which is currently in production and stars “The Rock” as legendary Mma fighter Mark Kerr, who struggled with addiction and his marriage while becoming an icon of the sport, will be released by I Wonder in Italian cinemas in 2025.
I Wonder, which is owned and operated by Biografilm Festival founder Andrea Romeo, has a longstanding — albeit not exclusive — rapport with A24, having successfully released other A24 titles such as “The Zone of Interest,” Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

MultiVersus, the recently launched free-to-play platform fighter, isn’t shying away from a little friendly fire by poking fun at DC’s characters and actors. In a hilarious nod to DC Comics’ 2022 box office struggles via the film Black Adam, the game playfully throws some shade at Dwayne Johnson’s highly-memed statement – “The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change”.

MultiVersus officially launched on May 28, 2024.
In a clip from the game, Joker can be seen interacting with Black Adam and taking a jab at him with the line “Weren’t you supposed to be rearranging the hierarchy or something?”. This is a reference to The Rock’s big push for the character to become a centerpiece of the old Dceu.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson vowed to change the "hierarchy of power" within the Dceu with 2022's Black Adam. The movie was meant to be a fan-pleasing blockbuster which launched a new version of this shared world that, in Johnson's eyes, revolved around his anti-hero.
He reportedly went behind the backs of executives to bring Henry Cavill back as Superman, refused to share the screen with Zachary Levi's Shazam, and hoped to launch everything from a Justice Society movie to Hawkman as part of a slate he and Seven Bucks Productions would oversee.
Black Adam proved to be a mess of a movie with murky visuals and hit-and-miss CGI. Crucially, box office numbers weren't good, reviews were even worse, and Johnson soured people on this already struggling franchise enough to impact 2023's Dceu titles negatively.

Despite returning to WWE, following his DC exit, Dwayne Johnson’s tenure, particularly at the DC Universe, seems to be marred by recent allegations surrounding his Black Adam project. To add to the disgrace of arguably the most controversial movie of the actor’s life, stories are surfacing about the making of the Dceu movie with CGI and stunt double.

With the latest report about the production of Black Adam arriving from popular wrestling journalist Jim Cornette, it has been revealed that Dwayne Johnson extensively used his stunt double to shoot several scenes. Later on, CGI was employed to replace the stunt double’s face with Johnson’s, in those particular scenes. This revelation comes in the wake of reports shedding light on Johnson’s habit of arriving hours late to movie sets.

Despite becoming a box-office flop upon its release, Brad Pitt’s Fight Club has stood the test of time, becoming one of the most influential releases from David Fincher. However, its impact isn’t just limited to the viewers, as director Steven Caple Jr. too took inspiration from the action thriller for the 2023 Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
For his reimagination of the popular IP, the director filmmaker incorporated Pete Davidson into the feature, whose character took major inspiration from Pitt’s Tyler Durden.

Director cum producer Michael Bay has proven his star-studded worth in the entertainment industry one too many times, especially through the masterpieces he helmed for the multi-billionaire Transformers franchise. That said, the 59-year-old artist seemingly had no intention for his robotic saga to get a crossover with Dwayne Johnson’s $712 million worth G.I. Joe franchise.

Although it may seem surprising, this was Bay’s original decision regarding his franchise when this idea was proposed to him by Brian Robbins, the current CEO of Paramount, and was rightly so for a very understandable reason. However, Robbins seems to have eventually come out victorious over him, considering how a crossover movie between these two sagas is currently in the works.

While the 2009 sequel to the original Transformers failed on many fronts and committed the cardinal sequel sin of rehashing the ideas of the first movie, it still delivered with its visuals. Despite being 15 years old, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen still puts many modern blockbusters to shame following its impressive visuals and on-location action sequences.
This is prominent during the film’s opening, which is often deemed one of the most impressive scenes the franchise has to offer and we’ve Bay’s stubbornness to thank for it.

After former presidential candidate Nikki Haley signed an Israeli shell with the contextually-horrific phrase “finish them” last week, the act of “bomb-signing” has come under scrutiny online, and now, Captain America actor Chris Evans is at the center of the conversation.

A new report suggests that Universal has a fourth film in The Mummy series planned, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reprising their roles.
Here’s an interesting story to emerge from the rumour mill this morning. Reporter Daniel Rictman has claimed that a fourth film in The Mummy series is being developed at Universal. The project will reportedly see both Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz return to reprise their roles from the original trilogy which concluded with The Mummy –Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor in 2008.
Weiz didn’t feature in that instalment – as we covered in this look at why a fourth film never happened – and she wasn’t apparently satisfied with the script. However, Richtman (via World Of Reel) claims that both she and Fraser are on board for this next instalment, which would bring back a series that gave audiences some brilliant moments and launched the career of one Dwayne Johnson.

This summer, Marvel Cinematic Universe regular Chris Hemsworth, best known as the Asgardian demigod Thor, will be heard lending his voice to the animated "Transformers One," the origin story of the friendship turned rivalry between heroic Autobots leader Optimus Prime and the villainous Decepticons leader Megatron. Hemsworth is bringing some star power to the voice of Optimus Prime, who has typically been voiced by Peter Cullen in the classic "Transformers" cartoons and the modern live-action film franchise. But soon, he'll be bringing more than his voice to the toy-based media giant.

Thanksgiving may be months away, but audiences are already getting ready to feast on Moana 2.
A trailer for the movie was viewed by 178 million people in its first 24 hours this week, more than any other trailer for a film in the history of Disney’s animated empire, which is made up of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar. (Moana is from Disney Animation.)
In terms of trailer viewership, the previous record for Pixar was Inside Out 2 (157 million), and the best for Disney Animation was Frozen 2 (116 million). The Moana 2 trailer also came in above Pixar’s Incredibles 2 (113 million).
The Moana 2 trailer will play before Inside Out 2, which opens in theaters June 14. The upcoming Pixar sequel is tracking to open to $80 million-$85 million, although one service believes it will cross $90 million. Both films are good news for Disney’s animation empire, as Pixar, in particular, has been struggling.

It's been a strange couple of years for Dwayne Johnson. There was a time when the Hollywood A-Lister could do no wrong, only for the narrative to shift ever since Black Adam was released.
The movie's poor financial performance called his status as a box office draw into question and comic book fans began turning on the actor once they learned of his supposed Dceu takeover attempt.
Quite a few high-profile failures followed, including a reported $60 million loss on his attempt at rebooting Vince McMahon's failed XFL.
Last month, a damning report from the trades claimed to shed light on the consequences of Johnson's habit of arriving hours late to movie sets and an alleged habit of peeing in water bottles.
Now, legendary pro wrestling manager Jim Cornette has shared information from an anonymous Atlanta-based source who claims to have worked on several of The Rock's movies.
