Sometimes, the "Star Wars" universe can seem very small. The vast majority of television we've seen on Disney+ that takes place in a galaxy far, far away is intrinsically tied to the Skywalker Saga in one way or another. Even "Andor" ties directly into the Rebellion and the work of Princess Leia and the people of Alderaan, and it might be the one that feels most removed. The universe of "The Mandalorian" felt separate for a while, but Luke Skywalker's appearance in season two brought it right back into the world of the classic trilogy.
For most "Star Wars" fans — myself included — this small universe phenomenon where everything is connected is a feature, not a bug. That doesn't mean it's not still refreshing to see things completely divorced from the Skywalker Saga and gives us a new window into "Star Wars," and that's exactly what Leslye Headland's murder mystery series,...

The Jedi barely appear in the original Star Wars trilogy. Obi-Wan and Yoda are both hermits hiding from their own failures in distant corners of the galaxy, and both die after teaching Luke Skywalker a bit about the Force. Luke himself never technically completes his training, though he gets close enough to be considered a Jedi master in later films. So the Jedi exist more as a exciting symbol in those early films,...

Elle Fanning is going from great to bad. The actor known for The Great is in talks to star in Badlands, a new movie set in The Predator universe, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The Badlands is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the filmmaker who revamped the franchise with the 20th Century and Hulu feature Prey, which was set in 1719 and starred breakout Amber Midthunder as a young Comanche woman pitted against an alien hunter. The film was a critical success and broke viewing records for Hulu.
Trachtenberg reteamed with Prey scribe Patrick Aison for the Badlands story, with Aison penning the script. THR reported in February that in addition to Badlands, 20th Century has a number of Predator projects in development, with Trachtenberg at the center of a growing universe. 20th Century had no comment.

Star Trek is one of the most significant and oldest media franchises out there. It has amassed a massive fan base over the years. However, the franchise faced a major setback in 2002 when Star Trek: Nemesis turned out to be a gigantic critical and commercial flop.
Brent Spiner, who played the role of the android Data in The Next Generation series, 4 films, and in the Picard series admitted that Nemesis‘ failure made him feel that the fans are done with Star Trek.

Star Trek: Nemesis was the fourth and the last film with the cast of The Next Generation series. Additionally, it also had Tom Hardy playing the antagonist opposite Patrick Stewart’s lead. Unfortunately, nothing could save the film from the abysmal response with some critics even labeling it as the worst in the franchise.

Exclusive: After announcing that the studio would be expanding on its Predator universe earlier this year, 20th Century and Dan Trachtenberg’s next standalone pic Badlands looks to be gaining momentum with some serious star power. Sources close to Deadline say that Elle Fanning is in negotiations to star in the film with Trachtenberg directing. Trachtenberg co-wrote script with Patrick Aison.
20th Century had no comment.
Plot details are being kept under wraps, other than it will feature everyone’s favorite extraterrestrial big game hunter. It is also not known about release plans as the last film exclusively streamed on Hulu (breaking numerous viewerships records for the streamer) but given that 20th Century has been very much back in the theatrical game with films like Boogeyman and the upcoming Alien: Romulus film bowing in theaters, a theatrical premiere isn’t out of the question.

Several key parts of the Star Trek universe have become ingrained into the core of the franchise and have existed since the original series. None, however, have been as iconic as the Idic. Over the years, it has turned into an iconic piece of merchandise for hardcore fans, and it holds great significance within the story.

However, many fans may not know the backstory behind the piece of jewelry or another place where it appears. It would seem that the idea of the necklace can be traced back to the beloved writer of the series, Gene Roddenberry.
Surprisingly enough, he got a lot of pushback from the cast and had to work very hard to get it integrated into the series.

The sci-fi genre has always been one of the most beloved among cinephiles as it gives us a new look at a particular technology or our world. Want to take an island vacation this summer? All six seasons of Lost are returning to Netflix in the US on July 1, giving die-hard fans and newcomers alike a chance to enjoy the mind-bending drama all over again. The series originally ran from 2004 to 2010, premiering just days before Desperate Housewives and a few months before Grey’s Anatomy. It became an immediate hit, and it all came from an executive named Lloyd Braun sitting on a beach in Hawaii, thinking of ways to turn his vacation into a TV show. Inspired by the Tom Hanks movie Cast Away and the massive, game-changing reality competition series Survivor, Braun came up with a title — Lost — and a vague concept of plane crash survivors and total strangers learning to survive together while leaving their pasts behind.

Actor Jonathan Frakes, who plays William Riker, reportedly has one theory on why Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has been the most well-received Star Trek show in the recent past. Part of the new Alex Kurtzman series of shows from the sci-fi franchise, Strange New Worlds has reportedly broken viewership records for the franchise for Paramount+.
The Star Trek: The Next Generation star has also been a part of more spinoffs of the popular franchise such as Discover, Picard, Voyager, and more. He has also gone on to direct a couple of episodes in the shows and also helmed the film Star Trek: First Contact. According to Frakes, the format of Strange New Worlds has worked well with audiences.

Kathleen Kennedy Says Women Who Make ‘Star Wars’ Franchise Installments ‘Struggle’ with Male Fanbase
Even Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy is aware of the gendered bias surrounding “Star Wars” fans.
During an interview with the New York Times for upcoming Disney+ series “The Acolyte,” Kennedy admitted that female filmmakers “struggle” with fan backlash to their respective film and TV franchise installments. Leslye Headland is the showrunner for “The Acolyte.”
“Operating within these giant franchises now, with social media and the level of expectation — it’s terrifying,” Kennedy said. “I think Leslye has struggled a little bit with it. I think a lot of the women who step into ‘Star Wars’ struggle with this a bit more. Because of the fan base being so male-dominated, they sometimes get attacked in ways that can be quite personal.”
Per the New York Times, some online fans have dubbed the series “Wokelyte” for having a diverse cast, and Headland has received direct criticisms from so-called fans of the franchise...

Glen Powell may be blowing up thanks to roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You, but like any other actor, he struggled on his way to the top and lost out on some major roles, including Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
While chatting with GQ UK, Glen Powell spoke of coming “agonizingly” close to playing Han Solo, only to drop the ball at the last moment. “I can joke about it now,” he said, “[but] I blew that final audition.” The role ultimately went to Alden Ehrenreich, but with Powell’s charisma, you can see why Disney was interested in him in the first place. The actor also said he screwed up auditions for Captain America and Cowboys & Aliens over the years, but he’s accepted that it just wasn’t meant to be.

Carrie Fisher fell ill in December 2016 after collapsing shortly before her flight from London landed in Los Angeles. The Star Wars icon suffered a cardiac arrest and, after spending four days in intensive care, died at the age of 60 in hospital.
A coroner's report later found that Fisher had cocaine in her system, as well as traces of heroin, other opiates, and Mdma. However, it was unable to determine whether those contributed to her death.
The actress spent years struggling with substance abuse issues and Fisher's close friend and singer James Blunt has claimed Disney and Lucasfilm had put "pressure on her to be thin."
He and Fisher formed an unlikely friendship in the early 2000s and wrote his first album, 2004's "Back to Bedlam," while staying in her house. Following her death, he performed a tribute to the actress which we've embedded below in case you're curious.

Every April 5th, Star Trek fans celebrate First Contact Day. As established in the 1996 movie Star Trek: First Contact, First Contact Day celebrates the anniversary of Vulcans establishing contact with humans, after the latter launches their first warp-capable vehicle. From that moment, humanity took its first steps into the wider galaxy, establishing Starfleet and then exploring the cosmos, as documented in the prequel series Star Trek: Enterprise.
But apparently First Contact and Enterprise weren’t enough to tell that Star Trek origin story. According to a report by THR, the first film in production will be an origin film “set decades before the events of the 2009 movie that was directed J.J. Abrams, likely around modern times,” and dealing with “the creation of Starfleet and humankind’s first contact with alien life.”
At best, such an origin story is repetitive and unnecessary. At worst, it misses the entire point of Star Trek.

Carrie Fisher blamed Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens for Harrison Ford’s 2015 plane crash and her near-fatal car accident. She was convinced that the movie was cursed and even made a call to Mark Hamill to make sure that he was okay. With new chapters in the worlds of Mad Max and Planet of the Apes out now, Guardian writers have picked their favourite big screen franchises to date
When a blockbuster franchise is seven movies in (and counting), and the consensus choice for worst entry was directed by John Woo, arguably the most influential action film-maker of his time, you’re looking at an uncommonly consistent series. Though the Mission: Impossible movies have cycled through many directors – one apiece for Brian De Palma, Woo, JJ Abrams and Brad Bird, before settling on Christopher McQuarrie – the first film, particularly the astounding Langley break-in sequence, established the franchise as a showcase for impeccable crafted set pieces. The plots may be an enjoyably hokey tangle of global threats and clever unmaskings, but the series’ determination to keep topping itself, leaning on the physicality of stunt work and practical effects, has provided reliable thrills for approaching three decades.

In the late 1980s, Bruce Joel Rubin was a screenwriter with two interesting credits on his resume — “Brainstorm” (1983) and “Deadly Friend” (1986) — and a screenplay (“Jacob’s Ladder”) that everyone in Los Angeles agreed was terrific but which no one at the studios would green light. Rubin’s fortunes and reputation changed seemingly overnight on July 13, 1990, when his romantic thriller “Ghost” opened and became a worldwide smash. A few months later, “Jacob’s Ladder,” which had finally been brought to the screen by director Adrian Lyne, opened as well, and Rubin’s status as one of Hollywood’s top screenwriters was secure.
While “Ghost” ultimately garnered Rubin an Academy Award and went on to become a classic — one of those rare cases where personal expression seamlessly intersected with popular and artistic success — its path to the screen wasn’t always smooth. That surge of excitement has hit a fever pitch for fans as rumors swirl and fan-made trailers ignite our imaginations about Keanu Reeves playing John Constantine again. News of Constantine 2 has been much anticipated by fans, especially since it was earlier reported that the Canadian actor, 59, will play the title character again.
The first film narrated the tale of John Constantine, a cynical demon hunter who must navigate the murky alleys of a parallel, horrifying reality. Although Warner Bros. has not formally disclosed a release date, there is much conjecture that the follow-up film may arrive in theaters early in 2025.

Every time a TV or movie crew is asked to adapt a popular novel, there is a chance that it will go horribly wrong. While some novels are easier to retell in new formats, others are impossible to make into a coherent script without changing too many things or adding too many new plots to fill in the holes.
If there's already a perfectly good adaptation of a novel, many believe it's better to leave it alone as a good example. In the case of Scott Turow's Presumed Innocent, however, the story ended up looking too good to leave behind.

With the fate of the next film up in the air, the original captain wants to get back on the Enterprise – it could be a genius feat of nostalgic casting or a desperate attempt to regain past glory
It probably says something about the gaping void where Star Trek movies ought to be sitting right now that even 93-year-old William Shatner reckons he might have a chance at getting back in the Enterprise command chair, albeit with a bit of futuristic de-ageing tech. Speaking to the Canadian Press a couple of weeks ago, the original Captain James Tiberius Kirk suggested he could easily play a younger version of the erstwhile Star Trek admiral, thanks to a company he’s working with that specialises in software that “takes years off your face, so that in a film you can look 10, 20, 30, 50 years younger than you are”.
Kirk was, of course, killed off in 1994’s Star Trek: Generations.

Apple TV+ has now released the new tense trailer for Presumed Innocent, the limited series coming to the streaming service courtesy of David E. Kelley and J.J. Abrams. The legal drama has Jake Gyllenhaal in for the fight of his life as he defends himself from allegations of murdering a peer with whom he shared a complicated entanglement. It doesn’t look good for Gyllenhaal’s character, as a plethora of evidence is working against him, and he can only continually profess his innocence.
The official synopsis reads,
“Gyllenhaal is set to star as Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor whose world is upended when a close colleague is murdered — and the evidence begins to point to Rusty himself. The role would be his first ongoing part in a TV series. Presumed Innocent was previously adapted for a 1990 feature film that starred Harrison Ford as Sabich, along with Bonnie Bedelia and Raul Julia.

Star Trek is one of the best-known and most beloved science-fiction franchises of all time. The series, when it originally began, was a pioneering show that was both commercially successful and became a cult classic. The following the series has is enormous, and despite the fact that not all iterations have been equally good, people really like Star Trek, and people always want more. The franchise as a whole is still alive and well, with several pioneering shows being produced in recent years, but the movie franchise saw its most recent work eight years ago when Star Trek Beyond was released back in 2016. Paramount has been looking into reviving the movie series, and it seems that things are looking good right now.

Hot on a role right now, Glen Powell is set for a reimaging of ‘Heaven Can Wait’ which is in early development at Paramount Pictures.
Based on Harry Segall’s play of the same name, the story made its way to the big screen back in 1978 and starred Warren Beatty. It focused on Beatty’s NFL quarterback who dies prematurely due to an antsy angel and returns to Earth in the body of a recently murdered millionaire. Beatty also co-directed the film with Buck Henry and co-wrote the script with Elaine May.
Also in news – Steve Carrell set for HBO untitled comedy series
Oscar winner Stephan Gaghan is set to pen the latest iteration of the story. Powell and Gaghan’s upcoming project is reportedly not a remake and will not centre around a football player as the main character. However, it will retain the concept of a man being taken away before his time.

Paramount Pictures has a few successful franchises, but the studio's apparent inability to do more with Star Trek is beyond confusing.
When J.J. Abrams relaunched the franchise in 2009, the stage was set for it to become a mainstream property, something which looked increasingly likely when the sequels - Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond - were also moderate box office hits. Unfortunately, Star Trek 4 has been stuck in development hell for several years.
Filmmakers such as Quentin Tarantino, Matt Shakman, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are just some of the names who have been attached to the movie in recent years, with none of them ultimately sticking around.
Now, with it seemingly no closer to becoming a reality, it seems Paramount's next prequel project is finally taking shape.

It was announced today in the Hollywood Reporter that Simon Kinberg is taking over the development of the new "Star Trek" feature film, currently working its way through pre-production at Paramount. This new film will be the fourth to be connected to the Kelvin timeline of "Star Trek," a timeline which started with the events of J.J. Abrams' 2009 "Star Trek" film. As of this writing, Toby Haynes ("Andor") is slated to direct, while Seth Grahame-Smith has signed on to write. Kinberg is a notable Hollywood player who wrote "X-Men: The Last Stand," "X-Men: Days of Future Past," "X-Men: Apocalypse," and "Dark Phoenix" (among many others) and who produced "The New Mutants," "Deadpool," "Logan," "X-Men: First Class," "Cinderella," "The Martian," and "Elysium" (among many others). He is a franchise guy through-and-through, and Paramount likely wanted a new producer with high-profile experience.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix’s Simon Kinberg is in talks to produce new Star Trek film franchise at Paramount
As Paramount+ is keeping the Star Trek brand going with their new TV iterations, the movie side of the mountain has been hatching a plan to revitalize Gene Roddenberry’s vision of a peaceful future for the big screen. There are multiple projects in development, which include a swan song for the Kelvin Universe crew which began with 2009’s J.J. Abrams Star Trek. Early last year, Abrams teased his Star Trek 4, saying, “I will say it’s the first time [since the original reboot] that we have a story that feels as compelling as the first one.” However, the series star, Chris Pine, is kept in the dark about it, “In Star Trek land, the actors are usually the last people to find out anything.
