Arnold Schwarzenegger is finally returning to the action genre four years after his last film. "Breakout," a prison escape thriller from director Scott Waugh, is currently set to begin shooting later this year, according to Deadline. The film will end up marking the first time Schwarzenegger has appeared on the big screen since 2019, when he starred in the legacy sequel "Terminator: Dark Fate." Although the former action superstar and ex-governor of California has a number of additional projects in the works, "Breakout" seems to be the most classically Schwarzenegger-ian action movie on his docket and places the actor in the lead role.
Schwarzenegger famously stepped away from the limelight to pursue his political career for several years, prior to returning to acting. He made a small cameo in 2010's "The Expendables," which released near the end of his governorship, before becoming part of the main cast in the next two sequels.

It has been four years since Arnold Schwarzenegger took on a major role in a movie, but he's looking to be back. The Austrian icon is taking the lead in new action thriller Breakout.
Act Of Valor director Scott Waugh will make this one from a script by Richard D’Ovidio. Arnie will play Terry Reynolds, whose stepson, Daniel, is framed and sentenced to 25 years in a foreign country. Reynolds makes a daring jailbreak to save him and must overcome an overzealous prison warden in a race against time to avoid capture and flee the country.
Yes, Arnie already has some screen prison break experience thanks to 2013's Escape Plan, but this should prove to be a different challenge. It'll shoot this year in Europe.
And it has been in development for a while already – the last time it pinged our news radar, RZA was attached to direct.

Kate Siegel, Jason O’Mara and Dulé Hill have been set to star in “Hypnotic,” an upcoming horror film at Netflix.
The thriller centers on a young woman seeking self-improvement, who enlists the help of a renowned hypnotist. But after a handful of intense sessions, she soon discovers unexpected and deadly consequences.
Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote, who previously teamed on the Netflix horror film “The Open House,” will direct “Hypnotic.” Richard D’Ovidio is penning the script with Angel and Coote.
It is unclear when “Hypnotic” will be released on the streaming service.
The Netflix project has no relation to another film that is titled “Hypnotic,” which is currently in development with actor Ben Affleck and director Robert Rodriguez. That movie, an action thriller, has been backed by Solstice Studios and Studio 8.

The Man With The Iron Fists didn't quite kick off Rza's directing career in the way he might have hoped (a single Dtv sequel directed by Death Race 2's Roel Reine is all we've seen so far of the intended massive franchise) but it also has harmed him in the long run. He's just finished behind the cameras with the hip-hop drama Coco, and he'll now move straight on to action thriller Breakout.Rza made Coco for Iron Fists studio Lionsgate, but Breakout is for Amasia, with whom he's also just worked as an actor on Mr Right. Breakout involves a photographer wrongfully imprisoned in Bangladesh for drug trafficking, whose father ropes in two old friends to find the truth and secure his release by any means necessary.Richard D'Ovidio (The Forger, The Call) wrote the screenplay, in cahoots with his regular collaborator (and wife) Nicole D'Ovidio. In the last decade, John Travolta hasn't really done much work that stands out. He's either a menacing villain who doesn't amount to much, a wacky goofball, or some other weird character that just doesn't seem to work. Finally, after all this time, he's in a role where he can really prove himself again and it's a fine film, with an excellent script and solid performances all-around. From a screenplay by Richard D'Ovidio, the film is titled The Forger, directed by Philip Martin (Emmy-winning TV director making his feature debut). It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival where I randomly caught a screening, despite not knowing anything about it or the director going in. I was thoroughly entertained and mostly impressed by the film's dialogue. In the film, Travolta plays an art forger still in prison after being caught on the last job, close to finishing his time but anxious to get out.

Just as the refreshing supernatural horror thriller Deliver Us from Evil hits theaters today before the big holiday weekend, a trailer for a much more generic and seemingly boring film in the same genre has arrive. If The Damned wasn't generic enough of a title for you, the trailer does a much better job of delivering the same kind of story and scares we've seen time and time again. At first it seems like this might be different with the set-up coming from a mudslide accident that leaves a family (led by Peter Facinelli) stranded in Colombia, but then it heads into familiar territory with a creepy, dirty, wet girl scaring them, things moving by themselves, and all that cliche jazz. Plus, it's just edited poorly with long-winded text bumpers. Watch? Here's the first trailer for Victor Garcia's The Damned from IFC Films: The Damned is directed by...

Two male abductors are given a gratifying run for their money by Alice Eve and Halle Berry in two very different thrillers
It's a common complaint that thrillers in general, and anything inflected by horror in particular, exploit the spectacle of the female victim. Yet while there may be some truth in that generalisation, both genres are equally likely to subvert such hackneyed traditions, turning gender conventions on their head while seemingly conforming to stereotype. As Carol J Clover observed in her seminal work Men, Women and Chain Saws, the resourceful spectre of the avenging "final girl" is as much a staple of the slasher movie as the "primal" male monster, lending a radical element to films that are too often dismissed as inherently reactionary and misogynist. As always with cinema, appearances can be deceptive.
Take two very different releases, both with resourceful women giving male abductors a run for their money.

A kidnap thriller starring Halle Berry as a guilt-ridden phone operator falls prey to weak third-act syndrome
It's the same old story: a movie that starts well and finishes weakly. Screenwriter Richard D'Ovidio has no third act for his kidnap thriller, and finally tacks on a bizarre and misconceived ending. Halle Berry plays Jordan, a 911 phone operator who must deal with every kind of situation and stay cool, but one day makes a terrible mistake. Later, when a serial sex criminal kidnaps a teenage girl called Casey (Abigail Breslin) and puts her in the boot of his car, the terrified victim manages to phone 911 from her mobile, and Jordan sees a chance to save the situation and redeem herself. The story's opening is pretty gripping as Jordan manages the crisis from her phone headset and listens carefully for clues. But then the culprit's backstory has to be factored in, and...

Brad Anderson's rollercoaster ride is a lean, taut, brilliant B-movie
The Call is a welcome little late summer treat, a juiced-up B-movie kidnap thriller from regular Fringe director Brad Anderson, admirably succinct at 87 minutes, constructed around the conversations between an abducted girl (Abigail Breslin) and the responder (Halle Berry), who picks up when the girl calls 911 from the trunk of the kidnapper's car. It's a machine designed to thrill, please and satisfy; a one-sentence pitch – 911 responder breaks rule No 1, and gets emotionally involved – deftly realised, manipulative and clever enough to be irresistible. Add an ending that's midnight-black, morally, yet somehow just right, and it's the kind of throwaway thriller that could only be improved by seeing it in a nighttime drive-in with a date, some reefer and a fifth of Old Harper. Pure guilty pleasure.
The set-up is simple. Six months earlier, Berry botches a 911 call – promises her first abductee she'll get her home,...

Film: "The Call"; Cast: Halle Berry, Morris Chestnut, Michael Elkund, David Otunga, Abigail Breslin and Evie Thompson; Director: Brad Anderson; Rating: ***
An engrossing suspense thriller, "The Call" is an interesting slice of life of a '911' call operator. This astutely written script by Richard D'Ovidio follows the template of "Cellular" and "Phone Booth", where the life-line of the film is the telephone call.
The film focuses on how these emergency call operators at times go beyond the call of duty.
Jordan Turner (Halle Berry), the daughter of an ex-policeman works at the Los Angeles Emergency Call Center, which is also known as the Hive.
The film takes you directly into the Hive where, against the backdrop.

Fair, though tiresome.
