Kevin Spacey used to be one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood before the s-xual misconduct allegations roped him in a web that has had him maintaining a much lower profile than ever before. But while the controversies led to him getting fired from his masterpiece series House of Cards, it also seems to have taken a dear friend away from him.

Orville Peck’s mask has been such a signature part of his artistic image as a queer country star — but over the years it’s been “evolving” and shrinking. During an interview with drag star Gottmik for the cover of Paper, Peck shared that he’s not sure what will end up happening with the mask and joked that maybe it’ll become “just a little eye patch.”

Throwaway classic rock lyrics can have a big influence on other artists. For example, Sabrina Carpenter said one line from one 1990s song changed her attitude toward music forever. However, she might have misunderstood the track.
Sabrina Carpenter loves a song that has some classic rock references
During a 2018 interview with Teen Vogue, Carpenter said Santana and Rob Thomas’ “Smooth” was one of the tunes that defined her life. “You know what jumped out for me on this song?” the “Espresso” singer said. “When he just name-dropped Mona Lisa. ‘Cause I was like, ‘Oh, I know the Mona Lisa.’ I was also like 12, being like, ‘I love art.'”
The “Nonsense” star explained this name-drop had a big impact on her. “As far as what I then took with me in songwriting is that you can almost find one little moment in a song that can be an entire song,...

More than 30 unhoused were removed Friday from outside of Sunset Sound, the iconic recording studio used by such artists as Elton John, Taylor Swift, The Rolling Stones and Van Halen.
The long-standing encampment outside of the Hollywood studio has been a source of ire in the neighborhood, while the owner has reportedly complained about sidewalk fires and break-ins. The clean-up was orchestrated by Inside Safe, Mayor Karen Bass’ initiative to remove the unhoused off of Los Angeles streets and into city-leased housing.
“Many people living at this encampment have been in the same area on the street for over five years, and now they are finally able to move into housing because of Inside Safe,” said Los Angeles City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez in a statement. “With 100% of unhoused residents accepting services and housing through this operation, we are proving that when we do the hard work to find sustainable housing solutions,...

If Sir Elton John‘s career had only spanned the 1970s, he would still be a music legend, an icon of glam and progressive rock. Fortunately, he forged on, segueing into each new era of rock and branching into film and Broadway with comparable success and his signature aplomb and style. We’ve undertaken a nearly impossible task — narrowing a huge catalogue of memorable compositions down to the 25 best.
John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947, and showed an affinity for playing the piano at a young age. In 1967, he answered an ad for songwriters and met Bernie Taupin, which led to a long and successful collaboration, with Taupin writing lyrics to which John composed music. It took a few years of struggling, but in 1970 they had their first top ten hit with “Your Song.” In 1972, “Honky Chateau” became his first of seven consecutive number one albums in a three-year period.

Elton John was not feeling the original choices in The Lion King to sing his Oscar-winning ballad, Can You Feel The Love Tonight?
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nathan Lane revealed that early versions of the animated classic saw Timon and Pumbaa singing all of Can You Feel the Love Tonight?
“Originally, we sang the whole thing,” Lane said. “Elton John was mortified that the warthog and the meerkat were singing it. He said, ‘The reason I wrote the score was because I wanted to have a Disney love song. I didn’t want it to be sung by the rat and the pig.'”
There is an original rat/pig version floating around with Lane and Ernie Sabella, who voiced Pumbaa.
“We did [record] a version,” Lane said. “We sang the whole thing in our character voices. It wasn’t like we were going to do our legit Broadway version.

For more than 60 years, Bob Mackie has reigned as the over-the-top couturier for Hollywood’s elite. After gaining attention as the costumer for The Carol Burnett Show, The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and Cher’s solo variety show, the designer became the go-to choice for divas like Judy Garland, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Madonna and Elton John, and created clothes for 60 Barbies. In the process he won an impressive nine Emmys, a Tony and a Cfda lifetime achievement award, plus three Oscar nominations.
Now with a long-awaited documentary devoted to his life in showbiz, Bob Mackie: Naked Illusion, arriving this summer (a distribution deal has not yet been finalized), the so-called Sultan of Sequins, Rajah of Rhinestones and Guru of Glitter seems to be having yet another major moment, with his archival pieces worn today by the likes of Anya Taylor-Joy and Zendaya.

Not sure that I would equate Tom Holland and Zendaya with the same level of triple-a star firepower as Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, but the last time I witnessed sheer frenzied pandemonium outside the Duke of York’s Theatre was when Taylor went to see Burton read excerpts from Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood in February 1982.
It was bonkers, with onlookers five deep on both sides of the street waiting for a glimpse of the superstar much-married Hollywood lovers.
Four decades on, I found myself at the same theatre that has stood on the site in St. Martin’s Lane since 1892.
This time it was the occasion of the official opening night for Jamie Lloyd’s stark, modern-dress production of Shakespeare’s The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo & Juliet, to give its full title, starring Holland and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers as the tragic star-crossed lovers.

The Lion King – Featuring the voices of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala and Donald Glover as Simba, Disney’s “The Lion King” is directed by Jon Favreau. © 2019 Disney Enterprises, Inc. All Rights Reserved. When Disney made the original animated version of The Lion King, the studio invested heavily in the film’s music, enlisting Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice for the film’s original songs and Hans Zimmer for its score. Of course, it was an investment that paid off handsomely — the soundtrack album has sold more than 7 million copies, and all four of The Lion King’s Oscar nominations were for the film’s music. When the studio decided to remake the film in 2019, director Jon Favreau was faced with a lot of choices about how he wanted to make his film different than the original. At the time of the film’s release, Favreau told us he realized that,...

Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 11, Episode 13 of “The Masked Singer,” “Finale: One Mask Takes It All,” which aired May 22 on Fox.
“The Masked Singer” winner Vanessa Hudgens admits she didn’t necessarily play the hiding game: At least among her friends and fans, they figured out it was her under the Goldfish costume rather quickly.
“Rita [Ora] guessed it was me straight from the jump,” Hudgens said. “But she’s also my friend. And we saw each other a few days before the first episode!”
Hudgens beat out Scott Porter, who had performed this season as Gumball, to win the “Masked Singer” trophy. Coincidentally, both Hudgens and Porter previously starred together in 2009’s “Bandslam.”
Despite their history, Hudgens said the production kept her completely in the dark as to who her competitors were. “I was so invested every step of the way,” she said. “I was trying really hard to...

From Whitney Houston to Elvis, there is no shortage of iconic singers who inspire sweeping films that dramatize their life stories. No matter the genre, cinematic features have captured the careers of the King of Rock and Roll Elvis Presley to country singer Jonny Cash. Most recently, Back to Black (2024) launched in theaters to capture the life and musical career of Amy Winehouse.
Still other films in the works will add to the canon of singer biography movies, like Timothée Chalamet’s upcoming portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown and nephew to Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his uncle the late Michael Jackson in Michael.
We’ve compiled a list of music-centric biopics available to stream should the urge overcome viewers.

Over the past week or so, Apple Music has slowly unveiled the titles included in its list of the “100 best albums.” Today, the top 10 albums were revealed, with Miss Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill claiming the No. 1 spot. Rounding out the top five are Michael Jackson’s Thriller; The Beatles’ Abbey Road; Prince’s Purple Rain; and Frank Ocean’s Blonde.
The top 10 also includes Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life; Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe Version); Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black; Nirvana’s Nevermind; and Beyoncé’s Lemonade.
In all honestly, it’s a pretty safe top 10, especially considering the drama that unfolded when Apple unveiled picks 11-20 and slotted Adele’s 21 at No. 15 and Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) at No. 18 — ahead of albums like Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds,...

The critics have crawled all over Focus Features/StudioCanal’s Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black like red ants, however, the CinemaScore of B+ (which isn’t far from the Elton John biopic Rocketman at A-) is telling that the fans who showed up weren’t entirely wrought with the film.
For filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson, whose directing career blasted to a whole other state of euphoria with the feature take of bestselling novel Fifty Shades of Grey (near $570M worldwide), her intent was to see Winehouse’s life through the singer’s eyes.
You can listen to our conversation below:

The short, tragic life of Amy Winehouse has been chronicled in a documentary (Asif Kapadia’s Amy), numerous unofficial biographies, memoirs by her father (Amy, My Daughter), her mother (Loving Amy: A Mother’s Story), close friend Tyler James (My Amy: The Life We Shared), podcasts, and even graphic novels. And in the wake of shockingly successful biopics about Queen, Elton John, Mötley Crüe, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, and Bob Marley, the only surprising thing about Sam Taylor-Johnson’s Back to Black, which stars Marisa Abela as Winehouse, is that...

With “The Golden Bachelor” remaining one of the network’s top shows among Adults 18-49, ABC announced in February that it had greenlit a spinoff titled “The Golden Bachelorette,” which will air Wednesday nights this fall.
While presenting its 2024-2025 fall primetime schedule, the network announced that Joan Vassos, the 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, the fan favorite from “The Golden Bachelor,” who self-eliminated herself from the competition when a medical concern with her daughter arose, will seek a second chance at finding love as the first-ever Golden Bachelorette.
Despite other challenges she’s faced along the way – including the heartbreaking loss of her husband after 32 years of marriage – ABC notes that Vassos remains “an embodiment of strength and grace as a devoted mother of four, grandmother of three, and school administrator while finding solace in the music of Elton John, spending time with her dog, and cooking.

Paul McCartney has been one of the UK’s wealthiest musicians for the last 60 years due to his Beatles royalties. Now he has reportedly become the first UK musician to become a billionaire ($1.27bn).
The Sunday Times Rich List, published annually, reports that Sir Paul has seen his immense fortune increase by £50m ($63.5m) in the past year – thanks to Beyonce’s cover of his 1968 song Blackbird, the ever-lucrative value of the Beatles catalogue, plus his own continued touring into his 82nd year.
The Fab Four Beatles all made fortunes with their record-breaking record sales in the 1960s, but it was the songwriting partnership of McCartney and John Lennon who earned the really big money on royalties. McCartney added to this with his subsequent band Wings, writing the James Bond theme Live and Let Die, as well as his solo career.

On a hike with his snacks of choice — his fiancé Noah Galvin and chocolate mushrooms — Ben Platt saw the light.
“I was feeling really joyful and really present with [Noah] and I think he could really sense that. We were having one of those deep talks on our walk and he was asking me to describe what was allowing me to feel that way, and I started to talk about what it feels like to be in our relationship and my love for him and I started to envision a physical manifestation of what it might look like inside my head,” Platt tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“Because I am super anxiety prone and a very stressed person generally, I imagine there’s lots of jagged edges and lots of sharp things poking out and prodding, and when I envision what love does, it doesn’t necessarily make those things disappear or replace them.

Sanborn’s passing was confirmed on Monday via a post on his social media. “It is with sad and heavy hearts that we convey to you the loss of internationally renowned, six-time Grammy Award-winning, saxophonist, David Sanborn,” the post read. “Mr. Sanborn passed Sunday afternoon, May 12th, after an extended battle with prostate cancer with complications.”

David Sanborn, the six time Grammy-winning alto saxophonist who played at Woodstock, composed music for the Lethal Weapon movies, played in the SNL and Late Night with David Letterman bands and worked with everyone from Stevie Wonder to David Bowie, died Sunday afternoon, May 12th, after an extended battle with prostate cancer with complications. Sanborn’s music is often described “smooth jazz,” but he reportedly rejected that characterization, and one can see why. His lively, iconic sax solo on Bowie’s “Young Americans” is anything but. Sanborn preferred the idea that he “put the saxophone back into rock ’n’ roll.”

Classic rock songs from the 1990s definitely had a huge impact on the rap-rock of today but it’s hard to see its influence on Dua Lipa’s Radical Optimism or most of her songs. Regardless, the “New Rules” singer explained how a certain subgenre of 1990s rock had a big impact on her attest record. She said one 1990s song in particular takes her breath away.
Dua Lipa compared ‘Radical Optimism’ to 1 classic song
“Britpop” is one of those musical terms that is ubiquitous in the United Kingdom but lesser known in the United States. “Britpop” is the name of a genre of British rock music that became popular in the 1990s. It was a form of alternative rock with catchy melodies and upbeat lyrics that stood in stark contrast to grunge music. While grunge was inspired by punk rock, Britpop drew more from polished 1960s bands like The Beatles.
